The crew at check-in told me I could keep my purse with me, and the crew on the airline told me I had to put it overhead. Please be consistent! Flying is very stressful for me, and I want the staff to make it as stress-free as possible. As for boarding, I wasn't allowed into the gate until an hour before. What really bothered me was that they had already let some people into the gate and shut some other people out. Either let people in or don't. Don't follow the rules halfway because then they won't mean anything. I was very shocked by this and have never experienced this at any airline before. All I wanted to do was sit down and relax at the gate before boarding. If this ever happened to me again, I would not fly with the same airlines. To think that this was a JAL flight, with such a high reputation of customer service, makes me even more wary of booking a flight with JAL. I didn't appreciate being treated that way, and I will not tolerate it if it happens again."

Of course there was a problem with my reservation that they had never seen before which manifested itself by them not being able to print my boarding pass. They called Tokyo and were told that they had never seen my problem before either. Anyway, the ticketing supervisor stayed with me for 45 minutes until they could over come the problem. I would be a rich man if I had a nickel for every 'So-sorry' I got that day."

The flights were delayed by a few minutes, which led to me stressing to make it on time to my flights, and I felt dehydrated and nauseous. Also the website doesn’t specify that we will have to purchase meals either before hand or on board, and that the airlines only took cash and no credit card. It was miserable, a whole 20+ hour flight with lots of stress of catching my flight, checking and the checking my baggage, and being hungry and thirsty because I didn’t carry enough cash on me."

Singapore restored our upgrade at the airport but only on one direction so we had to go through it all again."

Got a hard time on the weight of my carry-on being more than 7kg although I had to point out that my ticket allowed me two bags that were 23kg each - I had nothing to check. Eventually, when I pointed out that I could wear enough of the clothes from the carry on, they agreed to let me take it on. On board, the service was cold, bland and infrequent. The entertainment system lost sound perhaps 20 minutes into the flight."

Why make the seats recline if they are going to bother the people behind? Why tell me to put my seat up if it was not a requirement for all (ie during take off or landing)? I did not appreciate this and it made my flight extremely uncomfortable."

When it came to food, they ran out and again their empathy was quite lacking. Air Canada really needs to step up their people skills. They will lose customers to airlines that demonstrate that they care (eg WestJet) if they keep this up. This is not an isolated experience for me. They have lost us as a customer. I won’t fly Air Canada again if I have other options, and I’m willing to pay more for the same flight just to avoid them."

We bought United Airline tickets at the last minutes and cost us about $2,400 because we cannot wait to get back China to prepare our wedding ceremony and US Visa interview. We are very very disappointed with Air Canada and will keep complaining about this issue. As a service supplier, how cannot you think on behalf of a customer? The air company definitely knows more about government rules than a customer. We did have mistakes of not researching government rules. Can't you predict roughly when the plane is going to land (once it is in the air!) and arrange for some gate to be open, so that we don't have to sit on the ground for 45 minutes once it has landed, for example? People who know how to organize are ordinarily capable of doing that. Furthermore, the lack of transparency is really frustrating: we just sit on the tarmac with no indication of how long we're going to be there, and the estimates of the delays are completely wrong when we're given them."

On our first attempt at a return flight, we were delayed because they were missing a flight attendant. After she showed up, we were told that a seal on the plane was leaking hot air onto the fuel tank, and we were likely not leaving the airport that night. They kept us at the gate for hours because there was a (and I quote) "1% chance we could get the part from another island, but don't count on it" The time for them to legally keep the pilot and attendants came and went, so they all left... but we were still kept at the gate. The plane left the gate and STILL AC Rouge wouldn't officially cancel the flight, because then they would have to put us up in hotels. So no crew, no plane, and all of us sitting at the gate at 2 in the morning waiting for some guy in some mainland city to call and tell us we could leave. FINALLY, the call came in, and we spent another hour and a half waiting in line to get hotel vouchers. The next day, when we actually got on the plane, my brother in law sat down to all of a sudden receive a fountain of water pouring on his head from the ventilation system. When he asked if he could get some tape or something to plug the leak of water, the stewardess told him that they are not allowed to put tape anywhere. So he stood there with a waded up paper towel. Oh, and there was puke on my seatbelt. Sure , it is a budget flight. But I am paying less for not having a meal, cramped seats, and minimal service... NOT an unsafe plane that is literally peeing on our faces for being dumb enough to choose this airline. Congrats, Air Canada Rouge for our worst flight experience. Get some planes that aren't falling apart."

We arrived at the China Air counter 70 minutes before departure time and they still refused to issue a boarding pass and would not explain why. Their only suggestion was to rebook the flight. So Alaska Airlines went out of their way and found us a flight on another airline for no cost and we flew to SGN through Manila Philippines (who were amazing btw!) that let us arrive 8 hours later than originally planned. We got to SGN and found China Airlines had decided to take our checked luggage off the plane in Beijing so we only had our carry on luggage with us for 3 days out of 7 of our trip. Then when we got to the SGN airport China Air refused to allow us to board our flight saying we hadn't come to SGN through Beijing and we would need to rebook the flight and get a refund of the full original flight. If it hadn't been for a family friend we would have been stranded Vietnam with no way to get home."

The lights in the cabin were at a level where it was perfect for sleeping, but if I used my individual light it didn't bother my husband who was beside me. All in all a very good flight over the ocean."
