Cons: "I didn't like that the crew at check-in and the crew on the plane told me different things. The crew at check-in told me I could keep my purse with me, and the crew on the airline told me I had to put it overhead. Please be consistent! Flying is very stressful for me, and I want the staff to make it as stress-free as possible. As for boarding, I wasn't allowed into the gate until an hour before. What really bothered me was that they had already let some people into the gate and shut some other people out. Either let people in or don't. Don't follow the rules halfway because then they won't mean anything. I was very shocked by this and have never experienced this at any airline before. All I wanted to do was sit down and relax at the gate before boarding. If this ever happened to me again, I would not fly with the same airlines. To think that this was a JAL flight, with such a high reputation of customer service, makes me even more wary of booking a flight with JAL. I didn't appreciate being treated that way, and I will not tolerate it if it happens again."

Pros: "There was a huge check-in line but it went quickly because they had 8-10 ticket agents with luggage 'helpers' for the agents. Of course there was a problem with my reservation that they had never seen before which manifested itself by them not being able to print my boarding pass. They called Tokyo and were told that they had never seen my problem before either. Anyway, the ticketing supervisor stayed with me for 45 minutes until they could over come the problem. I would be a rich man if I had a nickel for every 'So-sorry' I got that day."

The flight flew off course for almost 30 minutes, while the flight attendants required everyone to remain seated due to supposed turbulence. We felt no turbulence for almost 25 mins. No update was given to passengers while we flew far off course. I motioned to the flight attendant, who was seated due to turbulence warning, to ask why we were off-course, but she could not get up. Many passengers were pointing to the flight path animation, to point out that we were flying straight north, instead of southeast. The flight attendant then called the captain for an update, and then the captain finally made an announcement about weather delays around shanghai."

These parents aren’t held to any modicum of manners or basic respect for the other passengers around them. If I say something I’m the awful person, when I paid the same amount if not more than that awful child who kicked the back of seat and screamed the whole 5 hrs home. I’m not talking new parents navigating a baby and crying, that’s gonna happen. I am talking about the hideous humans who have decide to have children and check out on being a parent. Hawaii is a healthy place and should be represented in the meal on the plane. The food was bland and for someone to who doesn't eat a lot of meat it was very disappointing. Furthermore, the fact that there was NO movie on the way there and the in flight entertainment wouldn't work on my computer was really disappointing. Then on the way back I had to pay to watch!? I'm fuming about this. I HATE that airlines are doing this. It is greedy and gross."

The crew gave me the seat on the way there because their system was not working correctly and didn't tell me I would have to pay for it on the way back. Upon my return I was unable to print out my return flight boarding pass without paying for the upgrade."

The limited choice of movies involving non-juvenile topics - would have appreciated at least 4 or 5 films to select from that involved some kind of sophistocated comedy, mixed with a touch of drama or high-quality story line. (Did select "The Big Sick" which was of very high calibre, but no other choices existed that were similar to this style blending comedy with deeper and reflective themes.) The small sizes of the snacks, which were actually very tasty (chicken teriyaki warm sandwich and potato chips)."

Cons: "Every time i try to use the hawaiiain air app it may work at home then when I switch networks on my iphone i get the blue page in the app saying "The page cannot be displayed". The few times i've flown with hawaiian (3 this year) each time i try to use the app at the airport it fails, so i have to print out my boarding pass. The ios hawaiian app is not even an app, it's like a slimmed down browser just displaying a web page formatted for a smartphone screen size. What a poor excuse of an app. Do you have an application department devoted to maintaining this app? If so they are horrible. Go look at the ios reviews of the app, i'm not the only one. I can't wait for more competition to come to hawaii against your flights. You folks won't do a thing until some alternative airlines come down."

Any movie even old like Beatle juice for example was 7.99 per movie, tv shows were also 7.99. I have fly about every couple months both in USA and internationally, and all US carriers are by far the worse service."

Cons: "We were not assigned seats when we purchased our tickets. We called to try to get seat assignments and they told us to talk to a gate agent. When we went to the airport to checkin, there were NO gate agents at checkin. You had to check in on a computer and then drop our bag at the agriculture screening point. We went to guest services and they told us to go to the gate. We went to the gate and it was closed with no one there. We asked information and they sent us to guest services. Guest services then got snippy with us and told us to wait at the gate. So, we didn't even know if we would be able to sit together or if we'd be stuck with middle seats on the 5 hour flight until an hour before the flight left. Ultimately, our seats were fine, but the fact that no one could or would help us and the help that was there was completely useless and kind of nasty, convinced us to NEVER FLY HAWAIIAN AIRLINES AGAIN. Oh, and on the plane, they have an inflight entertainment screen on each seat, however, you have to pay for EVERY movie on it. This was not the case on Alaska Airlines, where entertainment was free."

Cons: "The middle aisle section of our plane was quite cold and blankets were expensive $10. Next time I will bring one. I was cold in my jeans and light sweater. The touch-screens at each seat were frustratingly and unpredictably unresponsive. The check-in process in Honolulu Airport for Hawaiian Airlines was hands-down the most time-consuming, confusing, and crowded one I have ever been through. Kiosk screen had too much info at once so even savvy kiosk users were very slow to go through process. We had already checked in online 24 hrs prior but that didnt save us any time as we had to stand in the kiosk lines with everyone else to print our bag tags then another line to just drop our bags. Entering this check-in area was a shock to the system as it looked like a mass of people. We were directed to a vague direction where our line should be, then after standing in that line for 10 minutes we were told by a fellow customer that we had to go to a different line amd basically start over. Then came the security check line. We made it to the front looking the whole time for a designated spot to dump our kids' water bottles out (our San Diego airport has a liquid dumping spot with a sign), to no avail. Finally at the front of the line the TSA agent is about to check our boarding pass and my husband inquires about where to dump the water bottles. The agent and front of the line line is situated less than 10 feet from the wall where a drinking fountain is, but of course in our way there is a plastic half-wall barrier (the one to guide the line toward her). She tells us we have to dump it there in the drinking fountains. However the kicker is we have to get out of line to do it--can't be let out and come back to her. Have to wait in the security check line again. No, I'm not kidding. So I decide to take all water bottles and my husband takes the kids on through the security check. When I come back to get back in the security check line the person working at the entrance of that line actually was asking every single person whether they had water--guess she forgot to ask us the first time we went through... bummer. We had arrived at the airport more than 3 hours before our Tuesday 2pm flight. All the while, the only updates anyone got were along the lines of "There's a delay and we're working to remedy the situation." No explanation as to what was happening or when we would be taking off. Then, as if that wasn't enough, they announced that the flight crew was now over their legal limit for consecutive hours and they would have to find a new crew. I'm surprised there wasn't a full-on riot at this point. Everyone managed to remain calm, though, through the additional 1.5 hours we remained there waiting for the new crew-- with no compensation, no free drinks, not even WATER. Inexcusable, Hawaiian Air. You just lost a customer."

(One was for an extra blanket as I had cold air blowing on me and the other was to take my rubbish) They never did. I have never encountered this with any Airline before."

Cons: "The young crew on the Manila to Singapore flight could have seen the journey as more of an opportunity to actually do their job rather than a chance to sit at the back chatting. When I approached one for a hot water bottle as it was freezing, she screwed up her face at my request and turned and spoke to her colleague in a language I couldn't understand making me feel uncomfortable. One of the worst things though was the food. Throughout the whole flight from Oahu to Singapore, there were no vegetarian options (even the mid flight sandwich had ham and cheese). Further, you were served a hot meal almost within an hour of being in the air, then had to wait about six hours for the snack and then another hot meal was served within three hours of that at a very rushed pace making the experience very unenjoyable. This happened on the way to oahu also so it is something that they practice regularly. Terminal 2 at Manila is also terrible if you have a long layover!"

Pros: "I flew PAL 2 years ago and was impressed on this flight home. An awesome added feature that blew me and my 10 year old daughter away was the entertainment! My daughter is afraid of flying. But as soon as we boarded and saw this feature, she completely forgot about her fear. She was so pre-occupied during entire flight to Manila that I was able to relax and enjoy the trip myself. There was a great selection of movies available that almost made me wish the flight was longer so I could watch more! The USB charging option was also a neat feature to have. I could easily charge our phones throughout the flight. I was also impressed with how well staffed the crew was. There was always a crew member going up and down the aisle with water and offering assistance in any way possible. Overall I am happy with the flight. PAL has made the trip home easier, more pleasurable and most importantly closer than ever before. Thank you PAL!"

Flight was supposed to leave JFK by 11:55pm, we left at 1pm the following day. It wasn't solely due to the weather (we expected a slight delay), but in the morning, plenty of other flights were running regularly, while there were no updates. No one that cared, all the staff just told us it wasn't their fault. (Which is true to an extent), but all so mentioned that they were tired too, and they're exhausted too, which made many people angrier. They deflected a lot of statements."

We didn’t really appreciate the 7 hour layover at 0100 in the morning and nowhere to get a meal or even coffee. However, the flight had the same crew from the night prior and they were excellent. The flight was open so we were able to get more leg room, less waiting time for the bathroom, and pretty much one on one service from our flight attendants. With all the struggle in the beginning, this particular flight was actually the best flight I have been on."

Had we not questioned the agent, we would have been stuck in PHX with no room, no car, and if we eventually would have gotten a flight, our reservations for car and hotel in SAT would have been cancelled and I would have been out $1700. I already lost money but it could have been worse. Basically, I am paying for a car and room that I am not currently in. Reimbursement for that would have been nice. Either way we will still travel using the travel service and this particular airline in the future."
