Taiwan has begun to reopen its borders to foreign nationals, provided they are traveling for reasons other than study, tourism or to visit friends. All visa waivers have been suspended, so travelers must apply for a special entry permit with a Taiwan representative office overseas before traveling.
Travelers who already hold a valid Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) or Alien Permanent Resident Certificate (APRC) do not require a visa to enter Taiwan.
Starting from December 1, until February 28, all travelers, including transit passengers, regardless of nationality and travel purpose must present a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within 72 hours prior to departure to Taiwan.
Foreign nationals must have a medical certificate in English with a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued within 72 hours prior to departure to Taiwan.
Travelers must complete and submit a "Quarantine System for Entry Form" before departure.
The following visitors may be exempted from negative COVID-19 test: personnel on diplomatic or official business, migrant workers, students, those coming to Taiwan for emergency situations, and crewmembers on vessels arriving in Taiwan.
Passengers arriving from the Philippines are subject to medical screening on arrival.
Travelers are subject to a 14-day home quarantine.
From November 9, all travelers arriving into Taiwan must declare if they have had COVID-19 symptoms in the last 14 days. If they report symptoms, they are subject to PCR test at the airport or a hospital immediately upon arrival. If they test negative, they must have a second test after 24 hours. They are subject to quarantine at a designated quarantine facility while awaiting for both results. If they receive two negative results, they will be able to leave the quarantine facility and carry out the 14-day self-isolation at home or in a designated quarantine hotel. A positive test will mean hospitalization.
During the quarantine period, the individual is to stay home (or at the designated location) and may not use public transportation or leave Taiwan. Travelers may be asked to install a local SIM card if they do not already have one. Mobile phone location monitoring will be used as part of the quarantine management process by local authorities. Short-term business travelers may apply for a shortened period of home quarantine.
Foreign passengers, including people from Hong Kong and Macau, are now allowed to transit through Taoyuan International Airport. Holders of People’s Republic of China (PRC) passports will not be permitted to transit in Taiwan. Those transiting will need to board connecting flights of the same airline company they fly in on. Transits must last less than 8 hours. Transit passengers who need to wait for more than one hour will remain separate from other passengers and stay in a separate area. The coustomer service number gets you to someone in India. I have tried to get this addressed four times now at first they tried to place the responsibility on the airlines now us and they have hung up on me twice. Kayak has been worthless, they also just pass the responsibility on to someone else. We will never use them again ant I intend to make sure that this mess is put out in social media to hopefully keep others from having their travel plans ruined by their flawed system."

When we checked in - they asked us to both check in our carry on luggage. The reason why is because they said they don’t think they have enough space for our carry ons. I told the crew member checking us in that other people that was checking in with the same hand carry size luggage with us had no problems taking it with them. For being about to be on a 17 HOUR FLIGHT we should be ALLOWED to have our carry ons with us! We take carry ons for that reason! I had to argue and prove my case to the crew member to atleast keep 1 carry on with us. I thought that was an UNACCEPTABLE reason for us to check in a carry on luggage when we had a 17 hour travel time ahead of us. Not a happy costumer here."

Relaxing atmosphere, comfortable seating, great in-flight entertainment, although I have the go-go in-flight data/entertainment plan with t-mobile (highly recommended), the flight included a decent selection of movies, television programs, etc. The food far exceeded typical "airline quality," even for an international flight - and included a fabulous little snack box with locally sourced gourmet and specialty items such as chocolate from Belgium, fine cheeses from France, and crackers from England. Drinks = gratis, and crew was exceptionally attentive and went out of their way to make flight as pleasant as possible."

Line to check bags pretty slow for number of passengers. Glad we had plenty of time."

After spending a fair amount of time on the phone with customer service I was able to get me on a Flight to Minneapolis that did not arrive till 1:30am then had to take a rental car to drive 3.5 hours to make it to my destination. I was not compensated for any of this. My return flight from Fargo to St. Louis was also Delayed. Both from Fargo and from Chicago. I have never experienced such poor scheduling from an airline or as many delays or cancelled flights in just a few day period."

Cons: "Boarding nearly last there was no room in the overhead compartments. This aircraft is tiny and with my small bag on the floor my feet rested on top of my bag making it cramped."
Pros: "The crew spoke Mandarin and were very friendly. The food has definitely improved since the last time I flew this segment. I think UA is feeling the competition from the Asian airlines and improving their services to better compete. The seats are definitely more comfortable than the domestic flights. It was a comfortable flight and we landed right on time."
Cons: "The seats are still smaller than some of the Asian competition."

Cons: "Delayed over an hour in STL, which caused me to miss my connection to Hartford. United rebooked me on Delta. I had to go from STL to Newark (United) then to Detroit to Hartford (Delta). I was in airports for over 14 hours. I was 7 1/2 hours late leaving compared to my original schedule and arrived at the hotel the next day. I had 5.5 hours of sleep for an interview that I traveled for in Hartfford. Thanks United."
