For example, Air Canada usually has a layover in either Montreal (YUL) or Toronto (YYZ), Lufthansa has a layover in Montreal (YUL), and Air Transat has a layover in Toronto (YYZ). There are several things you can do to make your flight as eco-friendly as possible. First, use public transportation to get to YOW and after you land at FCO or CIA. Try to book with Air Canada, as it’s one of Canada’s most sustainable airlines. Finally, pack light in order to reduce the weight on the plane; that way, the plane will burn less fuel.

KAYAK’s top tips for finding a cheap flight from Ottawa to Rome

  • Ottawa is served by Ottawa International Airport (YOW), a hub for Porter Airlines and Zoom Airlines. YOW also provides access to other cities nearby, such as Gatineau and Smiths Falls.
  • Rome is served by two main airports: Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO) and Rome-Ciampino International Airport (CIA). FCO, the bigger of the two airports, serves more international flights than CIA, so it's likely that FCO will be your arrival airport after a layover or two. Flights from YOW to CIA with layovers are also available, but usually are more expensive and take more time.
  • If you’re looking for the cheapest flights to Rome from Ottawa, your flight will probably have one or two layovers and will be operated by Air Transat or Porter Airlines. If you’re looking for the cheapest possible deals, you could also choose a cheaper flight-and-bus combination to bring you to your final destination in Rome.
  • If you’re bringing a large amount of baggage to Rome from Ottawa, you may want to consider upgrading your seat class, especially if you’re flying on a low-cost airline. Many budget airlines only allow one carry-on item and require extra payment for any additional carry-on or checked baggage. Upgrading your seat affords you additional free carry-on baggage, usually for a lower cost than if you added extra bags to your economy-class seat.
  • If you have an early-morning flight out of YOW, consider booking a hotel nearby for the night before, so that you can skip the stressful morning drive to the airport. Currently there are plans to construct a hotel onsite at the airport, but for now you should book a hotel nearby that offers free shuttle service, like the Hilton Garden Inn Ottawa Airport.

I don't understand the concept of paying to get your personal luggage onboard and then asked to check it in.... either sell the space or don't, its a hassle to carry those all through the airport just to make a check in at the last minute.

I don't understand the concept of paying to get your personal luggage onboard and then asked to check it in.... either sell the space or don't, its a hassle to carry those all through the airport just to make a check in at the last minute.

The food was great and the service and attitude was amazing!!

It was a great experience. The only thing I would have changed was that the bathrooms were never cleaned and they got very dirty.

Old airplanes small seats expensive tickets, not as expected overall and not comfortable according to the price

It was an OK flight with below mediocre service by their flight attendants

My experience was good overall, the quality of the food really decreased! There used to be a choice between meat and fish now it’s between chicken and pasta! In the choices of entertainment meditation has been added which is very good. Soft chair workout to improve blood circulation and avoid phlebitis should be added.

The only reason the overall rating wasn't "excellent" was due to problems in claiming luggage. The bags are delivered to the main area (Cinta 35) for domestic passengers, but to a DIFFERENT ROOM for international arrivees. After waiting 30 minutes, someone (who didn't appear to be from Air France or the airport) told us to go to another area. There we found our bags, which appeared to have been awaiting us for a while. We had to go through a bag check before leaving the airport. If we had been alerted to this possibility, or better yet, been to go directly to Cinta 34, we could have eliminated quite a bit of waiting.

Much better than the major US Carriers especially in Biz Class.

I wish that the meal included a vegetable or even a salad instead of couscous! Why serve chicken with rice AND couscous? Service was good overall though a bit lacking in friendliness. Usually on air france I've been offered a glass of champagne before dinner, wine with dinner, and a digestif after dinner. We were only offered wine this time!

It was not Air France but Air Europa. But confusion over our checked luggage. Whether it was checked all the way to Tenerife or not. It was not. Had to line up again in Departures. At least our Sky Priority was honoured. Flight was fine.

My bag was sent to lost and found. It was taken out of the plane without asking passengers if the bag owner is in the plane. I had valuables in my bag. I am very disappointed at this behaviour

A sandwich and a drink would have been better thank a snack bar...

Flying with Air Canada is still better than the discount airlines like Flair. The seats are more comfortable and the on-board entertainment is better, with each seat having a built in screen and lots of content to watch. Onboard WIFI is also great to have, as well as plugs for charging. I think passengers in general are getting better at not bringing too much luggage onboard, and Air Canada is better at managing this without customers feeling like they are being taken advantage of with extra fees. I have travelled on different airlines and all seem to be loading faster, with fewer people bringing both a carry on and a personal item. Now I just bring one item and it fits under the seat so I don't need to worry about finding a place in the overhead bins. Overall, across the industry, asking customers to pay for carry on baggage is fair because it allows customers to only pay for what they need, and it helps to keep the planes on time. Kudos to Air Canada for its approach - the desired result is achieved without customers feeling that they are being surprised and caught with unexpected extra fees.

The crew were fabulous. The flight was bumpy and I always like the captain to tell me what that is about or my imagination gets carries away.

I liked the behaviour of the crew members. The flight was good.

Food can be better. Taste and option, the pasta wasn't the greatest.

The internet connection was perfect, and the updated entertainment systems that allow me to connect my Bluetooth earbuds was excellent

Flight was fine and on time. But no entertainment system and little leg room.

I swear airplane seats keep getting smaller and smaller but everything else was great. Smooth sailing and we got in early.

No food to provide, they forgot that, in some cases, people stay at the airport for hours without food. Now, to provide them with food, they have to ask them to pay, because some don't have money. That way, they can't eat.
