Pros: "Good was amazing ; leg room was great per ticket price; and cabin crew were kind"

Cons: "The gate changed in a Dubai without proper announcement, Ground staff should have visited the passengers waiting in the gate waiting area that was printed on boat pass and inform them to new gate. Instead they charged the passengers with no show fees and delayed departure for another 12 hours."

Cons: "The flight was delayed leaving NYC (through no fault of SAA) and a lot of us were missing connections . There was no information provided to us on the plane on what to do once we disembarked (even if we were supposed to connect to another SAA flight). As a result, I spent (6!) hours at the airport in Jo-burg trying to locate my bag (my “Health” app clocked 3.5 from wasting all over the airport. While doing this, I was also hungry and thirsty. Food on the flight was inedible. As an example, for dinner I got cold orzo “salad” (meaning cold orzo with a couple of flecks of green bell pepper”, the main was pasta (again?!) with some red sauce; there was also a freezing cold bun and a cold cobbler of some sort. Breakfast was equally bad"

Cons: "But I do not have appetite of boarding it again due to the rudeness that I was shown by those who were at the terminal 5. I was coming from Washington State. I boarded a flight from Washington to San Fransisco then from there to New York but none of these charged me the carry on bag. When I reached at New York they said your laws (south african airways) does not allow a person to have carry on bag and laptop bag. At this time I had already extra lagguage which I paid $200 and they told me to pay another $200 dollars for carry on bag. They were so rude to me they told me to leave the bag if I do not have money. I was stranded. I tried to tell them that I boarded two flight which they did not charge me. They said the flights has different laws. But when I was going to New York i used the same flight with carry on lagguge and my laptop bag. So I paid $400. When I entered the flight I was shocked to find that almost everyone had a carryon bag. I felt that they did that to me because I was black and they wanted to find advantage on me. I was so stressful because I had no where to go. I used Delta flight when i was coming to new york but I have never experienced this charges. Now international flight experiencing this horrible situation. . True paying $400 because I had carry on bag?? Am still stressful they took a lot to me. They did not gave me receipt. I asked them to give me receipt all what they were answering me was like "just go." I have never been in a such situation. That is why I said I do not have appetite of boarding South African airways again. Is it true that your laws doesn't allow people to have carryon luggage? If it is true why some customers had the carry on luggage?? my carry was small it was not 23 pounds. Am still feeling pain for what they did to me. I know the name of the woman who was rude. If you treat passengers like that, there will be no good. The complain customer."

Cons: "We paid extra to have pre-assigned seats but for both of our flights - from Seattle to Frankfurt, and Frankfurt to Johannesburg we were given seats in the back of the plane, including a middle seat (we had paid for two aisle seats across from each other)."

Cons: "The 'second' security check at the gate. I don't know it these were SAA persons or NSA but they were downright rude. After passing regular security check, these people removed a whole pile of items from our bags including items that should have fine such as bottled drinks just purchased at kiosks next to the gate, tubes of hand lotion (tiny ones), fingernail clippers that had traveled around the world (many, many previous security checks), and their attitudes were thats "too bad, throw these items out or don't fly" Such a bad start ruined my flight. Food servers onboard were equally 'grouchy;."

Pros: "The Media available for viewing was very good. There was a lot of choices, both movies and TV shows. They could be viewed in 4 different languages. It helped make our 10 hour flight a bit easier."
Cons: "Our flight was delayed by 2+15 hours. We were told as compensation we would be able to access the South African Airlines lounge. When we went there they said we had been misinformed. When we boarded the plane I was pleased at first to see that we were in a 2 seat row and wouldn't have to deal with the horrid middle seat. This didn't last long due to the person in front of me reclining thier seat onto my lap. Within one hour we were served a meal that I declined since I had eaten during my two hour wait to board the plan. At 2:30 in the afternoon they had everyone shut the shades and the plane remained dark all day. It wasn't until the dinner serving that the lights came on. You did have the option of the seat lamp that offered little light. The staff seemed jaded. They did nothing wrong but they seemed to do as little as possible. The day before we had flown on Mango airlines and it was excellent. The staff were smiling, helpful and took extra care of the elderly passengers. They have extra leg room also."

Pros: "I initially selected my seat online two weeks prior to my flight, but unfortunately it did not register. When I checked in, the ground staff gave me a seat 45C, which was an aisle seat. I told him I had paid for a window seat. It turned out that what I paid online didn't go through. The ground staff insulted me about my credit card not being valid, which was not the case. It was something with your website because I had to select the seat several times. Regardless, he gave me another seat 65A (a window seat). When I boarded the flight I was told that they gave my seat to a mother so she could seat next to her son. I spent the entire time playing musical chairs moving from seat to seat until the flight was fully boarded. It was not a pleasant experience as I was very tired and just wanted to relax after boarding the flight. Needless to say, I will limit the amount of flights I take with SA from now on. The boarding experience as very unprofesssional."

Cons: "Flight was firstly delayed by 1h35. Business class was nothing but economy class with a choice of substandard food choice. Very Disappointed in SAA"

Cons: "the flight was late - which meant we had to literally run through the airport to connect with our next SAA flight. the disembarkation was also chaotic - the crew could have allowed all passengers connecting with the next SAA flight to disembark first - but instead made an announcement (after everyone was already standing) advising that "passengers connecting on SA 375 you will need to really rush through customs as you only have a few minutes to connect". Not very helpful at all! Also - the food was terrible. SAA constantly serves up the worst possible airline food (and I travel frequently so am accustomed to airline food). Finally, the entertainment system is of a very poor quality and they constantly have to re-start the system."

Cons: "I didn't like that SAA issued boarding passes only up to Durban instead of all the way including the Durban Cape Town leg of the trip."

Cons: "The audio on my TV didn't work, it was very muffled. I understand that it was probably a technical problem, but for a 15-hour flight, I really would have liked to have been able to watch a movie!"

Pros: "Simple, efficient and generally courteous. Timely. Especially the captain's approach to his service on such a long flight, through his soothing words to his passengers and crew. Kudos to him and the crew."
Cons: "Nothing that I disliked. Just couple of suggestions. 1. The wait between the meal upon leaving Joburg and the breakfast upon approaching JFK is TOO LONG, especially for some elderly ( if you review passenger list, you will be surprised how many were on my flight). Does not have to be more than some healthy snacks, but would be joyfully received. I know there is something available in the rear galley, but more fruits, cut up and offered in packs. SOUTH AFRICA is the country of fruits, after all. 2. Someone has done a rather poor job of selecting Indian music. Overemphasis of South Indian ( Tamil). Even the Bollywood selection (too small) is mostly out of mainstream, neither popular with young nor the elderly. If you write me, I would happily explain. Whoever is in charge does not appear very aware of your Indian passengers needs/wants. Thank you for the opportunity to help improve your service. Best to SAA."

Cons: "The flight is quite expensive considering the distance traveled. Our trip to Cape Town was cheaper and much farther."

Pros: "South African Airways was one of the best airlines I've ever been on! The crew was exceptional and very friendly. They fed us so much food and there were so many options for diet restrictions, which my vegan travel partner very much appreciated. Our 15+ hour flight wasnt bad at all. Very pleased!"
