Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Comfortable seats and good food/service throughout the trip."
Pros: "Getting to destination"
Cons: "Seats terribly small. No leg room. Sat on runway 30 mins before departure totally cramped"
Pros: "That I took off and landed safely."
Cons: "The attitude of the employees."
Pros: "Person checking tickets was good"
Cons: "Constant delays. Lots of waiting and zig zagginf around runway before taking off. Bags took forever to get out. It was a small plane and not full. No reason to wait 40 minutes for bags. Overall unenjoyable flight experience."
Pros: "It was changed from British Air to American Air, which would have been my last choice to fly with. Bad choice!!!!!"
Cons: "No American Airlines! I have trouble with them every time I have used them. Usually their plane breaks down or requires maintenance, which happened again this trip. It made use have to run from customs to the other end of the airport in 10 minutes to make the connection ."
Cons: "I upgraded my seats, but we still didn’t get any extras for the price."
Cons: "Everything else"
Pros: "Lots of food and wine/beer were provided at no additional cost and the first checked bag was free as is standard with British Airways. Basically I liked that American Airlines followed British Airways standards for the flight."
Cons: "There were no personal entertainment devices, just a central tv for everyone to watch, and there were no charging outlets. The plane was probably from a museum it was so old. After boarding we sat in the plane without moving to the runway for 30 minutes just making the 8 hour flight even longer. The gate at the Lisbon airport was overly small and restrictive with everyone crammed in and unable to leave after initially entering."
Pros: "Crew was good."
Cons: "Plane needs updated or put out of service. Uncomfortable for international flights. Monitors were few and broken in the main cabin."
Pros: "Clean airplanes. Customer service at PBI was great. Fake smiles. Charging in economy"
Cons: "No entertainment (tv wasn't working), FAs doing the bare minimum. No help even when traveling with a small child."
Pros: "We were very well looked after by a group of male flight attendants. The plane was clean, calm, quiet and we had all we needed."
Cons: "I purchased a WiFi pass and the WiFi did not work. Since the airplane does not have individual TV’s on each seat, it makes it for a very long flight. I also did not like that the passengers had to take a bus to the airplane and we’re shoved like sardines in a can in 95 degree weather."
Pros: "Made it closer to home. Bulkhead seats space useful when traveling with infant."
Cons: "Flight Delays. Riding a bus to the plane is outdated. Older 767 airplane. Crew did not seem friendly."
Pros: "Upon learning that our flight was delayed, the flight attendants brought out snacks and water right away."
Cons: "They started a movie, then restarted the same one an hour into it. After it ended, they played a second movie and cut it off half way to show other programming. Who would bother with a movie knowing only a part of it is being shown? That is disrespectful of our time. Boarding was a mess- everyone at once, most bags put below with luggage even though most overhead compartments were empty."
Pros: "Flight to Philadelphia wasgood"
Pros: "Great flight"
Cons: "everyone was friendly"
Cons: "the tremendous pressure from the staff, at the American Airlines. Never before experience such a low and virtually feel like an inmate, Just because the person in doing so, was profiling and that is NO GOOD , also the airport is filthy and dirty , Nobody Cares...I will not come again as a tourist to that country.. American Airlines should train the staff to be more courteous and not to ask that many questions ..it feels like you where in Siberia.."
Cons: "7.5 hr flight from Lisbon to Philadelphia on a dingy old plane that looks like it hasn’t been retrofitted in close to 20 years, with no charging ports for electronics, which seems insane in this day and age, especially for such long flights. Had no in-seat entertainment systems either, and only offered news and sports on the American wi-fi service — not their usual lineup of movies and TV."
Cons: "The flight was delayed and then the airport in Philadelphia "wasn't aware" that we were coming to it took forever to get off the plane. I would have missed my next flight if they didn't wait for us. Also I couldn't check in online beforehand, which was frustrating. Also I waited in line at the British Airways desk to check in and it was a long line. When I finally got to the front I was told I had to check in at the American Airlines desk and I wish I had been told that earlier. One staff member was rude when I asked him to repeat the food options."
Pros: "The crew made up for almost of the terrible things about the flight."
Cons: "The outdated plane had no plug in capability. No Gogo or individual in flight entertainment. The food was most inedible, the vegetarian snack was a hard baguette with old sliced tomatoes and wilted lettuce. I couldn’t eat most of what was served because it was so terrible."
Pros: "Three beer and three wine selection made the flight go by quicker. Food was better than expected based on pasta or shepherd's pie options."
Cons: "Full flight with uncomfortable seats, no tv/movies at each seat. Our AA four-hour flight after this was much nicer, with in flight entertainment. What?! I haven't flown on an international flight without entertainment at each seat in 10 years... And I have flown to over 40 countries since then."
Pros: "Sat at the gate for a while before pushing off. An announcement would be nice. Crammed into tiny seats. Wi fi didn't work (broken yesterday and they didn't fix). Very limited entertainment options on an 8 hour flight."
Cons: "Reasonably on time. Quit trying to sell us credit cards. How about improving the flying experience?"
Cons: "Confusion when boarding. Uncomfortable seat. No entertainment on a international flight! What kind of person thinks that is a good idea? I thought I will be flying British Airway for the flight back home that is why I bought this whole flight ticket. If I had known it will be AA flying back, I would fun as far away as possible."
Cons: "No airline has trans Atlantic flights without personal entertainment anymore. I expect it and am super disappointed when I don’t get my movies."
Cons: "Our seats were overbooked , causing us to almost miss our international connection. The staff were somewhat rude, but did try to solicit volunteers to give up seats and eventually the 4 passengers in my party did fly. But it was a very stressful 1hour until the issue was settled!"
Cons: "The last cabin was very packed and almost there was no available seat. However, the front cabin was not crowded but a cabin attendant didn’t let me move to other seat at the front cabin even though I was sick and coughing a lot."
Cons: "The fact that the flight was cancelled and I was unable to reschedule from this airport, resulting in an increased price of almost $1,000."
Pros: "The flight was very smooth and the food was good as well. However i was disappointed that’s I paid $90 for a 23kg bag just because I didn’t add it prior arrival."
Pros: "Either Frank needs a raise or the register personnel need additional training. It seemed every time the desk needed assistance, they were hollering for Frank. May be nice to have an ear set for personnel so they aren’t hollering amidst the chaos. Honestly, I sat at Gate E16 for almost 2 hours and genuinely want to say, “Great job!” to Frank. He kept a level head through the madness and maintained his professionalism all the while. Thank you for your hard work, Frank. We need more like you."
Pros: "Good service, great entertainment."
Cons: "Small seats, older aircraft."
Pros: "The crew was nice."
Cons: "I went to British airways to check in and the sent me to American. It was the worst aircraft I've seen for an intl flight."
Cons: "Very disorganized. Why was I put on this terrible American Airlines plane? My headphone outlet was broken, the plane was very uncomfortable, the boarding was disorganized. I thought I paid for a British Airways flight?"
Cons: "Zero in flight entertainment"
Pros: "Regular updates on delay timing"
Cons: "Landing in PHL so late we were lucky to make our connection"
Pros: "Great service. The staff was great."
Pros: "Excellent service. Crew was friendly and helpful. Food was great."
Cons: "Just didn't like the movies offered, but how do you please everyone? :-)"
Cons: "Pretty astonishing that a 8 hour flight would be on a 757 outdated plane with no entertainment and standard economy seats. The plane still had ashtrays and no internet connectivity. For over $1000/ticket I was extremely disappointed with the quality. Extremely cramped and uncomfortable. Will not be flying with American Airlines again and I suggest you do the same."
Pros: "Crew was fine and meal service was decent"
Cons: "Stood on the jetway for 30 minutes due to some issue with boarding. Aircraft was tiny, not enough bathrooms for such a long flight. Dirty bathrooms and long lines."
Cons: "Flight was cancelled"
Pros: "Flight arrived early"
Cons: "Flight attendants were short and condescending to multiple passengers and made everyone throw away bottled water and food given on the plane threatening that it would prompt search by the agriculture department during customs. Additionally, skipped rows for food service and trash pick up."
Cons: "I was scheduled to leave Lisbon at 11:45 am however at 6am I received a call to say my flight was cancelled and I was booked on the British Airways flight the next day at 7:30 am. This after AA had turned my flight on the way out around on the way from Austin to Paris and we had to spend the night in Chicago."
Pros: "Crew was service oriented and friendly and food was good"
Cons: "Uncomfortable seating; ran out of water on an 8 hour flight, and no individualized entertainment"
Pros: "Nice people good plane ride -- no problems."
Pros: "Food was fine."
Cons: "Plane was old and didn't include personal screens in the seats, for an 8+ hour flight it should be mandatory. Everything about the plane felt old and slightly dirty, and while flying across the Atlantic, it's slightly nerve wracking to still see cigarette disposals in the bathroom and on the seats (reminding you just how old the plane is)! The boarding process was a bit crazed, we were put on buses in no particular priority order and dropped off at the plane to all board at the same time!"
Pros: "Nonstop flight"
Cons: "Nothing special about American. Boarding process doesn't make sense. People crowd the gate during boarding. Aircraft cabin is outdated. Would love to see, at minimum, power outlets for each seat. Cabin was frigid, does it need to be that cold?!"
Pros: "Helpful attitude of crew"
Cons: "would have liked to be able to power up digital devices."
Cons: "Only one bathroom in our section was working and by the end of the flight it was very dirty and not flushing well. uncomfortable seating space"
Cons: "Flight attendant rude. No smile, only saw them once"
Pros: "There were no unexpectedly positive surprises. There was nothing that stood out as a positive experience beyond status quo"
Cons: "The airplane was older technology on three of the four legs. No charging outlets, or personal entertainment except on one flight. They also lost our bag, so that really stinks. They Gate checked my bag, and didn't give me a ticket. I even told them that I'd prefer a ticket, in case something goes wrong, and they replied 'oh no worries, it'll be up in baggage claim". I looked him squarely in the eyes abs I said, OK I'll wing it, but I trust you! He said no worries."
