Avianca became is the worst airline in Colombia and LATAM
Good budget airline. I was worried about the weight limit of my carryon bags as I know some airlines are very picky about it, but I just walked onto the plane with no issues. Boarding was smooth. I was pleasantly surprised that they served entire meals for everybody - they were okay, but there was variety (soggy sandwich, plantain chips, a cappuccino muffin, and a bottle of water). Unfortunately, the seats were very uncomfortable (none of them could recline or extend the headrest, and the seat was hard), which wasn’t so great for my red eye flight.

Several people were allowed to bypass the line, as they were 'late' for their flight. When we were close to being served the attendant 'placing customers in lines' directed four or five groups from the special needs line ahead of our line in a row. We were told we had missed the baggage check in by 2 minutes and had to pay $60 usd to take an flight 2 hours later. We were then yelled at that we had been in the wrong line. There was another line, very fast one, one the opposite side of the gate area for those with 'bag drop' only needs. I had showed the airline personnel our check in info on my cell and was placed in the wrong line by them. So many problems at airport check in with this airline."

At that point I decide to buy a new ticket with a different airline. AVIANCA SUCKS!!! They are NOT very accommodating at all. Will not recommend this agency and I WILL NEVER ever again will use their service."

This came after several problems (e.g. lost our luggage and cancelled our first flight to cartegena without sending a notification e-mail). We asked to be put on an earlier flight or at least upgraded to be more comfortable and they first lied that there was no more seats. Once we found out there were more seats that they could upgrade us to it became clear they had no customer services and didn't care about the huge inconvenience they had created (I had to miss work the next morning). We also tried talking on the phone once we found out the flight was pushed back and the phone assistance people are unhelpful. In addition, to get a refund they will not help you submit a claim, instead they make it as inconvenient as possible - probably because they mess up so much that they have to make it as hard as possible for people to get money back."

So they took us to a nice hotel. We finally left San Salvador the next day at 3 pm. So I spent two days flying to my final destination (Lima-Peru). Really disappointed about Avianca notification systems. The first email arrived at 3:30 am when everyone was already at the airport for nothing. Never again will flight with Avianca."

We had to stay in an expensive hotel for three days in Panama City, which we didn't plan to stay in the city at all."

She could have avoided the mess, embarrassment (both for her and the airline, as she demonstrated incompetency; after all, she represents the airline), and this bad review, if she had kindly complied with my request. There's more, but, I don't want this to be another chapter of 'War and Peace'."

Due to your incomparable incompetence my arrival was inexcusably delayed almost 12 hours. An account follows: For a company who's customer service is already hanging by a very thin thread you would think that you would be doing everything to make your flights as smooth and pleasant as possible. Shall I elaborate on the utter frustration and boredom of being trapped in the San Francisco airport facing not one, not two, but what became SEVEN delays? Delays that have been caused by runway maintenance- a condition which someone in your company would have known about well before I got to the airport and that you simply did not plan for. A almost FOUR HOUR delay that could have been easily avoided if you just had things together and scheduled your planes around the affected runways. And let's not forget the additional delay caused when your flight crew simply couldn't be found to come to the gate so we could start getting underway! But no, I think the absolutely outstanding quintessential experience that defines flying with United airlines is this: After the above delays myself and my fellow passengers were finally able to board our flight- only to be told by the captain that there would be another brief delay while we waited for ANOTHER crew member because one of the pilots was near the end of their union hours. We sit on the plane stuck for another 20 minuets or so, only to be told they can't find anyone, and can we please get off the plane because our WHOLE FLIGHT is CANCELED. The kiosk I get to try and fix this is uncrowded but understaffed and run by clearly undertrained employees. The ones I'm dealing with keep having to ask each other for help, and give advice/plans that contradict one another. One of theme even takes what seems to be a personal call while 'assisting' me. When I finally get ahold of a supervisor I have to plead to get the next flight out of this godforsaken place, which I am reluctantly given as its with one of your competitors. Talking with other customer and airport staff is sounds very much like you are delaying/canceling flights for your own personal gain or at least not correcting flights around the situation to squeeze more money from the situation) it becomes quite clear that you are not only still incapable of accepting any real measure of accountability but entirely disgracefully unorganized. Almost 12 hours later I do finally make it home- thanks to American Airlines. Only to have the utter displeasure of one last interaction with United wherein when I pick up my bag your employees insist that I was delayed due to the weather and it wasn't your fault. It was entirely absolutely your fault."

The Spanish speaking woman that pushed my wheelchair told me that I can bring my water bottles full of water through the metal detectors. So I had to buy a new bottle for my medicine that I have to take. You would think she would have got it by me carrying these bottles around but nope. She actually said to me that I can give her gratuity now if I wanted. I gave her $1. She then replied in a sarcastic voice " Thankyou you are soooo generous. I don't like feeling obligated to tip somebody because I am disabled and have a bullet in my head."

I didn't really mind. Just happy to go home in comfort with my upgraded exit aisle seat and no one next to me."
