Don’t take a bottle of Korbel in your carry on! It has to be checked.
ErnestFlew with Cathay Pacific-Jun 2026
Dress comfortably, no tight shoes, no tight clothes. It's a long haul.
BabuFlew with United Airlines-May 2026
If you want to get into a lounge, I highly recommend making reservations ahead of time if you can. Otherwise, you have to get there, scan some code and then get in a queue. Everywhere you go you have to wait. Just be ready for that.
HartajFlew with United Airlines-Apr 2026
My main tip is to allow a bit of extra time at SFO, since the airport is currently undergoing renovations. It is nothing unmanageable, but giving yourself a little buffer can help avoid delays.
BeldanFlew with Japan Airlines-Mar 2026
make sure to file any medication permission for things like ADHD meds or opiates for pain management early, so you don't need to rush.
EricFlew with Delta-Mar 2026
SFO TSA agents is not affected by the government shutdown, so the airport is functioning as normal. No need to arrive too early.
MartaFlew with Alaska Airlines-Mar 2026
Security is fast. It is run by a private company and not TSA. Lines move quickly. Immigration/customs is a smooth operation.
LILLYFlew with United Airlines-May 2026
I recommend splurging for business class. A bit too cramped in economy.
KenFlew with Lufthansa-May 2026
Get a good blow up seat cushion if traveling in economy

Verified travelerFlew with Scandinavian Airlines-May 2026
Don’t sit in bulkhead seats, that’s where baby bassinets are attached and babies are situated

JackFlew with EVA Air-Feb 2026
Be sure to have the gate staff check your documents before boarding begins.
LeeFlew with ANA-Jan 2026
Make sure you understand the cost of additional baggage. This information was not make readily available. If I had known it was so high, I would have made sure to pack in a single checked bag. It seems this information was hidden from me.
Verified travelerFlew with Iberia-Jan 2026
Buy your flight directly from the airline because the cancellation process is purgatory
ReinhardFlew with Scandinavian Airlines-Nov 2025
Don’t travel with checked luggage when booking tickets with stopovers
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Jun 2025
Large number of passengers on the flight so arrive early to the airport and to the boarding gate
MaryannFlew with United Airlines-Mar 2025
Bring your own food with you. Airport and airline food is expensive and you WILL need something to eat on such a long flight.
Verified travelerFlew with ANA-Mar 2025
Compression socks are your friend. I wish I bought some to help me deal with the cramped seating.
JendanFlew with Porter Airlines-Mar 2025
Make sure you have an online streaming option to help the time pass faster.
PallaviFlew with British Airways-Apr 2025
Eat at the lounge first so you are not stuck eating overcooked cheese ravioli
Verified travelerFlew with United Airlines-May 2025
Gate area is very expensive, be sure to get food before getting there.
LawrenceFlew with United Airlines-May 2025
Get to your gate early!!! Very little seating at/near gates 19, 20, 21 and 22. The last couple of flights, American boarding (very different gates) has been very straightforward. The last time on United, boarding at gate 19 was bedlam. Really going to look hard before scheduling on United next time!!!
SarahFlew with Alaska Airlines-Feb 2025
Go early in the day so if your flight is canceled, you might have better alternatives than I did when my 12:30 flight was canceled.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jan 2025
Use the lounge access at the discounted rate. It was very nice.
Verified travelerFlew with Air New Zealand-Jan 2025
Be prepared for a long overnight flight. Ear plugs a necessity. We had many many kids, and several who screamed rather than cried. A tough night. Not the airlines fault
ericFlew with Air New Zealand-Jan 2025
At least two hour connection Buy food pre-flight
Verified travelerFlew with United Airlines-Sep 2024

MarceloFlew with EVA Air-Nov 2024
EVA is strict with carry on weight. Had to check in my carry on luggage.

Bring cleaning wipes with you if you intend to use the toilet.
William DrewFlew with Alaska Airlines-Nov 2024

BrookeFlew with Delta-Jun 2024
Book early for the best price. Upgrade if you can. Sun country is a more consistent experience but delta has better in-flight entertainment.
IreneFlew with Southwest-Jun 2024
Arrive a least 1 hour before boarding if you’re checking bags. Light layers due weather variation
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jul 2024
It is a very crowded flight, so I advice to choose seats in advance. We didn’t have that option and that was the only complaint I’d have because they put us in the middle seats and we both wanted aisle seats. My sister was able to switch but I wasn’t. She was switched to the back, almost to the last row.
Verified travelerFlew with ITA Airways-Jul 2024
Pack light as they only allow one carry-on weighing 17 lbs or less. Economy seats are typical in that they are smaller with not much leg room and only tilt back to 120 degrees
