Pros: "It was on time even thought there was a storm."
Cons: "Ok I really don't understand this. I'm from Guangzhou and CAN is home airport and China Southern Airline is pretty much my hometown airline. So basically CAN is their hub and they should have certain privileges at CAN. But every time I went to CAN to take a China Southern airline I had to take a shuttle to board the flight. Even for a huge flight like 787 you still have to take the shuttle to board. Can't they request a gate for big air crafts like this? And then the food is really bad. If you don't have to land in CAN, I would consider flying to HKG instead with Cathay Pacific."
Pros: "The staff were always very helpful and courteous."
Cons: "My television screen kept malfunctioning. It didn't prohibit entertainment, but it was annoying. It was a bit too cold on the flight."
Pros: "The crew was not attentive. I asked some water to take my meds n never get bank to me. I have to asked them 3x."
Cons: "I had to climb 3 sets of stair during the plane change and the flight got delayed."
Pros: "Don't really like having to take the bus ride from the terminal to the aircraft to board in Guangzhou."
Cons: "Horrible boarding experience, crew rude"
Pros: "They got me to my destination safely."
Cons: "First flight was delayed three hours without explanation or information (just had to sit there and wait for them to call us the whole time). Second flight was delayed about an hour. Crew on second flight was not friendly."
Cons: "3 hour delay"
Cons: "At the end of our trip, 3 weeks later, we arrived in HAN to make our 3:45PM flight - constantly checking the status to make sure the flight would not be late again. The flight ended up getting delayed 30 minutes, then another 30, then an hour, and longer until the flight was delayed 5 hours total. China Southern employees at HAN wouldn’t move us to new flights and tried to tell us that we would make our layover in CAN despite this flight landing at 11:15 and our flight from CAN leaving at 10:05. We checked online and found there were no flights out of CAN to SFO until 24 hours later, yet there was a routing directly out of HAN. We told the employees it would be useless for them to fly us to CAN because we would be stuck there. They ignored us and told us it was fine and to fly to China. When we tried to explain, the employee simply walked away. We landed in CAN and were met with employees who first told us at 12:30pm flight to LAX the next day was booked full and they wanted us to wait 24 hours. When I told them that wasn’t true, they recanted and said “oh we can get you on the flight.” I asked for compensation since this was the second layover that was missed because of airline failure and a manager at the Transfer Desk told us he could not upgrade us to premium seating because all the seating was sold out. When we finally sat on the 12:30PM flight to LAX we found that not only did Economy have open seats, but so did premium seating. We were lied to by the manager at the Transfer Desk in CAN and when we explained the situation to flight attendants that we wanted one of the open seats they told us no. In addition, during our overnight stay in CAN due to China Southern employees at HAN not switching our routing, we were put in a hotel that smelled of smoke and had water stains in the room. We were woken up early to catch a shuttle back to the airport and when we arrived at the airport to ask for food vouchers to eat breakfast since our layover was longer than 12 hours, we were also told no. Overall I am completely dissatisfied with both flights on China Southern. I was lied to, cheated, and held up over 24 hours in China due to airline mistake and their unwillingness to book us new tickets. I spent hours at airports talking to airline employees and because of these hours spent we should be reimbursed for our flight."
Cons: "Delayed my initial flight 5 hours due to "weather" which was a rainstorm in which other planes of all sizes were landing and taking off. The storm would have been avoided had the plane been on time to begin with. Missed my connection and then had to argue with the manager for 2+ hours just to get a flight that wasn't a full 24 hours away. Was then told that they couldn't upgrade my seat because the flight was full, both business and premium economy had empty rows of seats. Throughout the experience China Southern employees lied to me and did everything possible to make the process harder. Had multiple employees just walk away from me without helping. Will never fly China Southern ever again."
Cons: "Unable to make a seat reservation on either leg of the flight. They have no idea how to run an airline. Boarding was a disaster. Waited for luggage for over an hour."
Pros: "The in flight entertainment was good, great selections and helped to pass the time."
Cons: "The seats in economy are alright, but my seat wouldn't stay reclined all the way."
Cons: "It should be zero stars. We never made this flight because of excessive delays. We also had to wait more than 2 days for the next available flight. The airline tried to put us in a very dirty and dumpy hotel 35 minutes away from the airport. We paid out of our own pocket for a hotel at the airport. Worst 15 hours of airline experience I've ever had."
Pros: "Service was good."
Cons: "My lugage was not at the airport when I got there but the airline found it and delivered it the next day."
Pros: "My seat (first row in the compartment) was comfortable and I slept almost 6h, when I woke up, it surprised me totally that it was only 4 h left to the destination. It took only 11 h 50 min (ahead of schedule) from Guangzhou to San Francisco and it was no delay."
Cons: "Food (fish and rice) was not hot enough."
Pros: "We departed 50 minutes late but still arrived on time. Great entertainment options made the flight go by quickly (also, slept for the first half). It's not super comfortable in economy, but it's completely fine for economy and you get what you pay for. Attendants were also reasonably nice, nothing that stands out good or bad. We got the Asian vegetarian meal and it was pretty good for airplane food -- two Indian-style meals served at either end of the flight."
Cons: "Not much to complain about. I think people forget that if you're paying $700 for an economy roundtrip to a Tier 2 city in China (SFO - CKG), this is a great deal and a very decent delivery overall."
Pros: "I had a long connection in Guangzhou (16 hours), and airport staff offered me a free hotel stay for this period of time; Hotel turned out to be awesome, I had a nice sleep and came back to the airport well refreshed."
Pros: "Courteous staff and punctuality of the flight."
Cons: "Entertainment system was not working in our seat. The vegetarian food not available unless booked in advance."
Cons: "No fresh fruits were given. They should keep some apples or some other fruit for those who miss their lunch schedules"
Cons: "Boarding was interesting."
Pros: "The seats were comfortable and the cabin crew helpful. The entertainment options were pretty varied and there were lots of options either in English or with English subtitles."
Cons: "The food was pretty bad. I was assigned a center seat even though the aisle seat next to me was vacant, so I took that one anyway. The bathroom situation was the worst part. I don't think there were enough on the plane, and other passengers were taking way too long in the bathroom. When one passenger decided economy class passengers weren't allowed to use one of the toilets, the staff did nothing. That was frustrating. :/"
Pros: "Better than we had expected. Comfortable seats, stewardess were nice no helpful. Food was Asian menu, chicken and rice or pasta. Great value given our round trip to Asia was under $600, it exceeded our expectations. We even got 2 checked bags free as part of our ticket price. Very smooth flight and on time."
Cons: "The long layover in wuhan.....very non layover friendly airport. Not a lot of places to sit and no food options while waiting 7 hrs before our next connecting flight."
Pros: "same as above"
Cons: "same as above"
Pros: "SFO/Wuhan/SFO - great plane, good food good value"
Cons: "Beware of WUHAN China - it is dangerous, the airport is HORRIBLE and the Customs officials are a true nightmare. Make sure you have plenty of pages in your passport as you have to clear customs over and over - beware of the Taxi Stand (you have to walk to domestic terminal). I was hijacked in a taxi from the official taxi stand - a typical fare of 100 yuan and he charged me 400 yuan only once in the taxi."
Pros: "good quality airplane (787 dreamliner)"
Cons: "can't use my iPhone even in airplane mode. That makes a big difference for any flight. A stupid policy to be sure"
Pros: "The service staff were very friendly throughout the boarding and flight. The seats were fairly comfortable with a decent amount of legroom."
Cons: "The boarding area at the Wuhan airport is miserable. There was one tiny shop to buy some snacks, and nothing else. There was a completely empty Duty Free store, and no available food options - even though it was in the middle of the day. My flight departed from Gate 2, International Terminal. The entertainment options in the flight were plenty, however, the sound on my system did not work. Therefore, I was not able to use the system throughout the entire 14 hour flight."
Pros: "Got to destination pretty much on time."
Cons: "Very uncomfortable & crunched - elbow to elbow and leg to leg with neighbor passenger."
Pros: "I was sitting like a zombie for the flight because the entertainment system on my seat was not turning on. The crew said there is no alternative seat, and could not fix it either. The international terminal at Wuhan was interesting experience as well. There were no clear directions to walk from the domestic terminal to international. The airport crew was prompting where to go"
Pros: "China southern was unable to fulfill a special meal request I submitted by both phone and email. I additionally conformed at check in and was told it went through. Once on board, however, there was no record of it. I was asserted an extra veg meal at the end, aftet all other passengers were served and ate. Additionally, you are not allowed to use a phone, even in flight mode, for the entire flight."
Pros: "This was my first time using the China southern airline and it was better than I was expecting. The food was good, and the I was kind of surprised that they have so many movies. I usually prefer to sleep because of lack of entertainment but this time I watched 4 movies on the way to SFO. I had a layover in China for 14 hours and I thought I was gonna stay in the airport but they arranged me a free hotel. They didn't mention in the email but I could rest well and they even had a shuttle bus to the airport in the morning. It was a great experience."
Cons: "In my opinion, they should smile more when they talk. It might be because I don't understand the language but they looked pretty scary to me. I just felt that way. But not all of the crews are like that."
Cons: "poor service.i had a fever and they did not provide me with a simple medication like asprin"
Pros: "Food was good. Crew was helpful."
Cons: "The Boeing 787 dreamliner on the CAN - SFO segment has really poor legroom in economy, really uncomfortable on such a long haul."
Pros: "Stewardesses we're extremely courteous & responsive. I was impressed with online streaming system. I was blown away by the free transfer to a layover hotel in downtown Wuhan - we were shuttled like first class. Many of were prepared to sleep at the airport for 8 hrs so this was very thoughtful!"
Cons: "Planes did not pull up to the gate - sometimes shuttle times were exceedly long. Meal quality inconsistent - meals from Wuhan to Bangkok were not appetizing at all!"
Pros: "Wide selection of movies and other entertainment."
Cons: "Leg room cramped for tall (6 ft 2 in) person on an 11 hour flight."
Pros: "Lots of kiddie and action movies (but very few interesting ones!)"
Cons: "NO leg room! Extremely cramped and uncomfortable. Had less than an inch between my knee and seat in front. Very hard to get in and out of seat. Terrible tasteless food. Wine served in tiny cups (two oz?) and ran out after the first serving. China Southern is also impossible to reach--they don't answer phones, there's no website that I could find. So seat assignments were made at airport, and each time we got seats right next to bathroom with loud flushing sounds all night long. Terrible excuse for an airline."
Pros: "A380 Business class has new seat configuration that offsets all seats and each is its own "pod". The equipment is new and very comfortable. People on both segments were very nice"
Cons: "787 Dreamliner is a fairly new plane outfitted with Business class seats from 15 years ago. They are side by side with no dividers and very uncomfortable. ALSO, they did not even board from jetbridge. We had to take shuttle bus past the entire airport and past the maintenance hangers to our plane. Flight from CAN to SFO makes "stop" in Wuhan, China for 2.5 hour layover. 1) Disembark onto shuttle bus. 2) Travel across airport. 3) Go through immigration or customs AGAIN and then security check of luggage 4) Walk 1/2 mile to business lounge 5) spend less than 10 minutes in lounge 6) get back on bus to be taken back to airplane. 7) wait another 1/2 hour b4 departure. Weird place to stop and even crazier procedures."
Pros: "TONS of movies to watch on my 787! My friend who took a different international flight on the same airlines"
Pros: "Good service"
Pros: "1. The food was actually very tasty 2. The crew was nice for the most part 3. The price I paid was decent $496 for one way from Manila to SF"
Cons: "1. The seats were too close together and not comfortable. The arm rests were too short and my elbows kept pushing the overhead light on. 2. The audio jacks was broken so I had to jiggle the headphones in the socket to get the audio and even then it wasn't good so I just gave up on watching a movie 3. They don't allow use of cell phones even in airplane mode"
Pros: "The planes are new."
Cons: "They don't allow cell phone use in airplane mode at anytime during the flight. China has a law against cellphone use on planes and they enforce it in international airspace and over other countries's airspace as well. This is a violation of passengers' rights."
Pros: "price point"
Cons: "They changed my flight hours before I was due to leave to another flight the arrived later then my connecting flight left. They offered to change the flight to one that would cause a 23 hour layover in Ghangzhou. They refused to pay for accommodation or even upgrade me for the inconvenience. The customer service representatives were rude and not helpful. I ended up having to get a refund. I flew with Korean Airlines and had a great experience. I'll never consider using them again."
Pros: "Getting off the plane!!"
Cons: "Every minute of the flight!!"
Pros: "The staff was very kind and professional"
Cons: "The Boarding process was not organized. A long bus ride, seemed excessive to board the plane Lack of instructions at departure after checking in and the departure counter they did not call by row numbers to Load the back of the plane first , everyone pushing and shoving. Very disorganized will Fly another carrier from past experience"
Pros: "My parents were excited about their first time visit to the United States."
Cons: "Long process to board including taking a bus from one terminal to another terminal. Food was just average"
Cons: "It would be nice if WiFi was offered but not a biggie"
Pros: "There was nothing to like at the wuhan airport. However, the flight from wuhan to san francisco was OK. Food was OK, but lacked variety."
Cons: "We did not understand the reason for stopover at Wuhan. Did not understand the reason for immigration formality, like arrival or departure formalities. It was tiring and frustrating. The leg space and size of the seat could improve for such a long flight. Entertainment was of poor choice and very limited."
Cons: "no customer service automated phone systems are better than this airline cuistomer service.rudeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
Cons: "Worst service ever!!!"
