easy reach of city centre, hotel layout very good, friendly staff, food very good.
Very attentive, efficient and helpful service. The location is excellent and it is comfortable and quiet. Breakfast had a wide variety of options. The choice on the dinner menu was rather restricted for a 4-star hotel, although service was excellent. Also, would expect better pillows than lumpy synthetic ones!
Very friendly and attentive staff. Excellent food in restaurant. Excellent facilities. Good location
I liked the fact that the staff was friendly especially in Deacons Bar. The front desk staff were also helpful with transportation and a room change. I appreciated that they were willing to make the change so easily. Although it was a lovely hotel with beautiful grounds, I feel their housekeeping proceedures really brought them down. The room I stayed in had brown grime on the shower walls and had obvioulsy not been cleaned in a while. Also, the pillows were extremely flat and made for an uncomfortable night sleep. The sheets were also not changed in the 4 nights we stayed there. We knew this because they were put on without care so everytime you pulled back the covers your sheets came undone especially on my husbands side of the bed where there was not enough material to tuck them back under the mattress. More attention to this would have helped the stay!
Large clean rooms Fast wifi Bt bland and corporate. Not quite as close to the centre as we would have liked.
We ate in the dining room each evening as the town was a 25 minute walk away. The service was very good and choice of menu reasonable. The hotel was a warren of rooms and clinical in design lacking in any character. Our allocated room was very small with only a double bed and as one set of towels was delivered each day ,we wondered if we had been allocated a single room as it was a busy weekend. We received a refund of one night after complaining.
An all round excellent hotel. We particularly liked the rural location, which was only a few minutes walk from the city centre.
Sports Club facilities were excellent, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Restaurant was very busy as there was a coach party also staying
It was my 2nd stay in Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel through Booking.com and it was very pleasant and the staff are very professional
very comfortable, easy reach of oxford, lovely views and surroundings. little vague if we had breakfast included in price
Convenient location with the huge advantage of car parking. The hotel was clean and comfortable.
The pool, the grounds, the size of the room We had to complain about the bins in the room being full of rubbish and four dirty towels left in the room.
nice staff good meals
The hotel was very impressive and in a lovely location by the river. The staff were friendly and the room was nice and clean. The service for food at the bar was very slow and we had to chase them after half an hour. Not very good considering the price.
Beautiful location and surroundings. Lovely room. Short staffed and poor service in restaurant/bar, especially for breakfast, whcih was not great quality.
Staff excellent, interior reception and lounge area very inviting.Grounds very well kept. Disappointed with bedroom, connoisseur ,for the price, also breakfast rather greasy.
courteous attentive staff good food lovely setting comfortable rooms.
A very attractive modernisation of a series of old buildings at the core extending to modern wings containing bedrooms with the expected amenities. A rural, riverside setting within 3 miles of the city centre
our room,was excellant,and what a stunning view.
Friendly helpful staff at reception, good leisure facilites, great location
The location, with the Thames at the bottom of the garden, is tranquil. The room was spacious and comfortable. The entrance hall/lobby was welcoming with an open fireplace. The breakfast was good and there was plenty of variety, although the juices were not fresh. The pool was small but nice. The bathroom was small. The food at the restaurant was bland (seafood linguine, mashed potato, salmon fishcakes were all tasteless). With many conferences taking place the hotel is noisy in the morning with doors banging. The staff on reception and in the restaurant were not particulary welcoming, nor helpful. The same annoying music was played on loop for the duration of our visit. For £150 per night we would expect much more and were very disappointed overall. There was no personal touch that you would expect in a hotel of this class. Needless to say we will to stay there again.
Room was very nice
The breakfast and service.
We particularly liked the room (105) - spacious and comfortable. The view is wonderful and the location very convenient.
The location of the hotel was ideal for getting to the office and shopping. Which was the purpose of the trip/stay No hairdryers in the room
central location and car park facility
The reception staff were excellent-very friendly and helpful-and it was good to have parking in the City. There was quite a lot of noise at night-from disco music + ?generator or other appliance.
The location was great, the staff were excellent, and the hotel itself: clean, stylish and cosy Navigating the High Street was a little complicated by car due to complex one way system
Central location Heating in room 201 was poor we did not have any on the Sunday morning and no hot water. This was the coldest night of the year so far 27/28th November 2010. I did mention. Rather off putting!
Seems a bit sad,but we really liked the bathroom! It was a proper room, not just a partitioned off corner of the bedroom.Nice floor as well! Breakfast was rather chaotic.
Excellent kitchen for all meals. Wonderful included breakfast Room quite cozy. Lighting very poor for reading. No wash cloths, few towels. Hair blower attached behind desk. Temperature very difficult to adjust.
convenient location the bed was too soft
ease of everything, uncomplicated. not the hotel, but the 4 question survey is actually, 11!
Comfort, cleanliness, generous size of the room.It was a good choice this hotel, not only because of the prices.
Freindly and helpful staff, comfortable bed A couple of noisy rooms above our room
Bar open till late. Useful as we did not arrive till 11pm First time I have used an Express and didn't realise that there were no cooked meals available
It was very comfortable and relaxing, and its easy access to entertainment.
Good hotel, with breakfast included with room. Friendly and helpful staff. Parking available. Can get a bus from the Kassam stadium to go to Oxford city, the hotel is adjacent to the stadium [make sure you get the right bus or expect 20 min walk back to the hotel on return journey]. Room's led lights not really strong enough to read by, though ok for relaxing. Wake-up service/clock, local radio/TV services available in tv unit, very clever. I found it a problem to operate [handheld controller difficulties] and no infomation card available to understand service. No evening meals facility only bar, though takeaway can be ordered [pizza, indian or chinese]. I query the honesty of the booking.com website as I noticed there was loads of rooms available, the hotel has 3 floors, and not many people about during my stay and wondered why I only got my room via a cancellation? I recommend customers to contact the hotel directly for prices and available dates; its a big modern hotel.
Easy check in; helpful staff;clean & comfotrtable reasonable access to eating places and leisure facilities I thoughtr it would be easy to find following the football signs, but they were not as clear as they could have been in busy night tme traffic
Clean, functional. Proximity for business visit Lack of light in bedroom and poor quality breakfast. Not good value for money given quite high budget hotel cost.
Straight forward. Better than a Travelodge but not as 'posh' as a full blown hotel. Good breakfast and very pleasant staff.
Excellant breakfast. Preferred the shower cubicle to the usual shower over bath. It would have been nice to have been able to have an evening meal at hotel.
The service was outstanding. Staff were really helpful, friendly and eager to make our stay great. The hotel has a fantastic location, right in the centre of Oxford, and it's clean, stylish and very comfortable. The bar and brasserie downstairs is great. I would definitely stay there on every visit to Oxford! There was nothing at all I didn't like during our stay.
Comfortable, clean, uniquely beautiful property! I have none.
Very central location Hotel is a triumph of style over substance
An excellent welcome and staff could not do enough for us. Room was comfortable and beds lovely
Espesialy Yiannis perikleous was very helpfull because he specking Greek that is my language expensive
closeness to town centre room very hot, opened window but still too hot. No air conditioning to control room temperature
Location and easy parking Nothing in particular - If anything the advertising raised our expectations beyond what was on offer a very functional hotel catering for a specific market niche.
Local to several shops also general cleanliness of hotel facilities was good as was standard of decor. Breakfast was good and offered plenty of choice. No central light in bedroom and generally poor light for reading
Breakfast was good value Noise from a dinner dance was intrusive-we should have been given a room further away from the event
Accessability to Abingdon. Comfort and service
Convenient location, welcoming and helpful reception staff. Excellent food, both content and presentation all round a good stay.
Close to the venue that I needed to go to The service and helpfulness of the staff was very poor. When asked if breakfast was included in my room price the response was 'No' I was not offered any option to purchase breakfast or advised where I could go. When asking the bar staff if they had any medium wine I was told 'No' I was not advised of any alternatives. The room smealt of smoke even though it was a non smoking room and I feel that the whole hotel needs a refurbishment.
The village atmosphere Only 1 bath towel between 2 people
Staff polite and helpful. All expected facilities, good standard of cleanliness, good breakfast. Minor quibbles - uncomfortable chairs in room and rather garish and outdated room decoration.
Came to do Xmas shopping. Hotel has parking facilities & is within easy reach of Oxford town centre by bus. Bus stop near Hotel.
The food and good service in the restaurant. The room in Elm House, up a hill, behind the Hawkewell House.
The cleanliness of the hoel Lack of heating to the hotel, it was very cold
A quiet night sleep Too warm/hot, heating on constantly. TV not working corectly.
Quiet yet easy access to Oxford city centre Dinner in restuarant for dinner was poor value
good value for money, clean, easy for park & ride ( into Oxford). our room 228 was just above function room so rather noisy - but at least it wasn't very late! Service in the restaurant was rather slow.
very comfortable surroundings. Staff very friendly and helpful.
The staff were very helpful. The room was nice and i loved the bed. The signs for the toilets need to be changed, they are confusing. Guests need to be informed that if they want eggs for breakfast they need to order them, i didn't know untill it was to late.
Very quiet hotel; very nice personnel. There is a very large breakfast, with many choices and an a good quality. Wi-fi is free in the rooms.
It is in an excellent location for visiting my daughter who is studying at Worcestor college. We were in a room with heavy scaffolding blocking the entire two windows. Men were talking, yelling & working/pounding in front of the two windows every morning. They totally ignored us who needed sleeping in the room. There were no privacy nor courtesy. We were not informed or asked if it's Ok for the reception to assign such a downgraded room (the windows were blocked by scaffolding entirely)to us at check in either. The service and facilities were at most a one star hotel this time. I stayed in this hotel for about 5 times in the last two years because we were visiting our daughter who was studying at Worcestor college(one block away). They've been always about a three stars hotel standard. But this time was the worst. We will not use this hotel any more. It's totally not worth the price & the poor facility.
Good enjoyable stay
room was clean and bathroom large. there was a cost of 4pounds per 20 minutes for the internet. should be complimentary. as well, they charged me for newspaper - 1pound, to use my visa to pay bill 2.50pounds and a "carer distribution fee of 1pound. this was unacceptable!
Lovely hotel and rooms. Particularly impressed by the turn down service. No
Location, 'character', most staff (but not all) Very high parking fee, long walk to room, noise of large fan/generator, modest bedroom and facilities, unpleasant view, bizarre naked footprints on flat roof outside window, smell of sewage ('exceptional' problem), credit card surcharge (incredible!). Very poor value. Also adding 'MacDonald' to the name rather detracts from the image, I'm afraid. Next time: The Old Bank
The friendliness & helpfulness of the staff. The excellent breakfast. The well-equipped bathroom. The proximity to the Ashmolean I should have preferred a duvet rather than blankets on my bed. I found the blankets too hot and constricting
Convenience, quality of service Smoking in main bar area.
The location of the Hotel in the centre of Oxford We stayed in the Hotel before and liked it very much. On this occasion we found it somewhat disappointing. Many small things caused us some frustration.
Excellent central location.Spacious and well furnished room. Unable to sleep due to traffic noise.
Staff were friendly and efficient but very busy and difficult to get hold of. Hotel was desperately in need of some updating and maintenance. One of two lifts was out of order and the plumbing in our bathroom made an aweful noise.
Friendliness. Convenience to City Centre. Quiet. Long circuit up hill and down dale to executive room on first floor - miles from lift and still requiring negotiating stairs. Brilliant black-out curtains spoiled by light streaming under the door from the corridor.
Hotel was very nice, staff very helpful and friendly. We used the dining room for Dinner and the quality of the food was not good at all. Three of us had different meals and none of us liked them, especially in view of the high cost. We also had breakfast which was very good, all food warm and tasty.
Service was excellent, as was the food, which is always a big bonus, particularly the breakfast. Bar prices were expensive
Having stayed in a great number of hotels this year, the Holiday inn at Oxford was by far the noisiest. We could hear every word the guests next door were saying, as well as toilets flushing etc.
Beautiful Hotel. Great facilities and Fantastic Breakfast!!! Being woken up by Housekeeping knocking on the room door at 9am
Location The bedroom was very cold and there appeared to be no heating. When we asked they sent up an oil filled radiator.
Bar food was poor
Friendly staff, close to Oxford city centre
Quick service.easy access from motorway
We were very pleased with the sevice given to us throughout our stay at the Oxford Holiday Inn. The staff were fantastic! We have suffered quite badly in the past staying at hotels due to being a same sex couple and it was lovely to not experience that this weekend. We would definatley book with you again in the future without any reservations - thank you!!!
breakfast was excellent, good selection and plenty of it bar prices are high, both for snacks and drinks
convenient for city centre Food was very average and expensive, breakfast not included.Restaurant service average.Rooms although comfortable a bit gloomy.
pleasant staff, room and restaurant too expensive for the services provided
Friendly and generally helpful staff, great location, sense of history in the older part of the building. Limited dining menu, very limited car parking, a real hassle when trying to park, and generally quite expensive compared to similar quality hotels.
We liked the location of the hotel, which is ideal. Lack of parking, value for money.
Very coasy and good English style interior, very good food, reasonable prices.
The bed was luxurious - a very comfortable night's sleep. Lack of opportunity to dine at the hotel.
Good value, comparable standards to Premier Travel Inn and Ibis
good price, free parking, free internet breakfast served in a nearby restaurant
Very convenient for our purpose - and excellent value
Access to motorway and Owford were very good. my room was facing the car park, I expected it to be noisy it wasn't. Lack of ventilation. The air between the fire doors on the landing was very stale. Room ventilation was also very poor, window opening was very small. A hot night would had been unbarable. I requested extra pillows, only one each in a double room, I was told the hotel was fully booked so there was probably none available. My son came to the rrescue his single room had four pillows!!! Breakfast is advertised, you have to go in to the food hall of the services area. the are no dining facilities in the hotel. One person on duty early evening when most people were turning up left no time for individual assistance if required.
room was a bit chilli
i likes the quite rooms, poilite staff and cumfortable beds. The bathroom was below standard, grout falling out in shower. Shower head not working correctly and slow broad band access.
free water. good shower. close to motorway. prefer larger than standard size bed, ie king
A really good time was spent over the Easter weekend - The Days Inn was a perfect choice for us, being located just outside Oxford and a short drive to the Cotswolds. Superb value.
Water had a foul odor and taste, ended up using bottled water to even brush my teeth. Didn't seem to have AC. Overall place seemed run down, like no fresh air had gotten in there in years. Smelled dusty and old.
The actual bedroom was very clean and tidy. The grout in room 27 was very brown and stained, also the silicone around the bath looked like it was put on by a school kid! The food available is ok for a one night stay, but rather dull for several.
proximety to shopping/food area location not great for our needs
Beautiful and quite just outside oxford with a bus stop almost every 30 minutes going into town.
Big clean rooms, large bathrooms with a wet room shower. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Freidnly staff, excellent food, very nice clean modern room My only minor gripe if there where no walk in shower or shower screen on freestanding bath. The one benefit was I had a really nice soak in the large bath.
The food was fantastic
The house was very homely and although the owners were not there the couple that where looking after the place which they had done several times before where very good, and made the stay very enjoyable.
The owner was very friendly and helpful with what there was to do in the local area and where to eat in the evenings
We found our stay at Town Farm Cottage very relaxing. The setting was very quiet and peaceful with beautiful gardens. Everything was thoughtfully provided. The staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful with good advice of places to eat and places of interest to visit. They were very friendly too. Also, the breakfasts were excellent...mmmmmm. Nothing to report here.
Good rooms and beautiful garden with a friendly welcome. Nothing!
Our bedroom was very comfortable with every attention to detail, likewise the bathroom. Very good breakfast with excellent communication with owner. Lovely gardens. Would stay again if in the area. No bad points.
Very friendly people felt really at home.
Even though we had asked for a twin room on booking and had called before checking we were told there no twins available, but the reception staff offered us two rooms for the same rate as a double which was extremly generous!
It takes 15 min. from city centre to the hotel. But it's clean, confortable and good sevice
Staff were good and the hotel facilities were aslo good
The food was generally very good - the service was quick - we liked the call bells on the outside tables The premium room was disappointing .. very small. We've stayed in many better quality bigger rooms in othe hotel chains for the same or less price. Also the views from the hotel when in the restaurant were very poor - roofs / aerials / ventilation ducts etc.could be improved with plants etc.
The choice in the restaurant was very poor.
Great Staff! Great workout room and Sauna!
breakfast, nothing special but both cooked and continental meals Internet was supposed to work and free of charge in the public area of the hotel, whilst it was a pay per hour in the room. Internet in the public area didn't work. We had to repeat a wait-and-trial for over half an hour in the lobby area. Others had the same problem. The front desk staff would not give half an hour free access to internet in the room in lieu of the inconvenience caused, whilst we were in urgency in sending messages to overseas counterparts who were waiting to hear from us at their end. Bathtub drains didn't function properly. TV reception was poor.
I liked that the size of the room was good and that we had a good dinner for a gour star hotel The staff seemed a little overwhelmed at breakfast
Room was clean, warm and quiet. Parts of the room were tired, paint chipped etc
Leaving the hotel during the day Poor service, poor food and sub standard room
It's location to the NEC is perfect My late request but unable to book an extra night
The quirky nature of the former prison - cleverly converted The lighting in the rooms was too dim to read
Responsive staff- about the best I have encountered. Taxi booked by hotel was 25 minutes late despite several calls by staff to chase
The hotel is very stylish and has a unique atmosphere. It's very close to the city center and the train station which is very convenient. The restaurant has superb food and is reasonably priced. The shower was quite challenging. No matter how hard I tried, the water I got was lukewarm at best.
Location Uncomfortable beds, hairdryers not working and extremely limited sundry items, tea bags etc..
Well situated.Intriguing building with a good ambiance.Has the potential to be excellent. Seemed under staffed at reception and so no warm feeling of care ,especially noticeable as this was the only customer engagement point.
Very comfortable and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.
Althiugh it was a busy weekend, the staff, were pateient courteoud and helpful.
the hotel building is beautifully restored and kept, the room and service were of high standard the hotel is dark everything is painted black there are very few lights and most places such as the brasserie and the main lobby are dim , everybody dresses in black at the reception desk and at the restaurant, black bed cover and black bed cushions black desk closet night tables, grey bathroom, black wall to wall carpet with tiny strips of red that reminded me of blood
Nice hotel, interesting features and full of character. Unfriendly staff. Shower broken, both of us had to have cold shower in the morning, not so nice! Duvet cover ripped all across. When this was pointed out to the male receptionist on check out we were told that this is not generally the case in the c block!! No mention of sorry!! Made to feel like a liar!
Central location, unique design, extremely handy for the Oxford Colleges which was why we booked it. Particularly liked the fact that you are immediately into the centre of the city as you leave the hotel Finding the hotel is difficult - the SatNav takes you to the back of the hotel( which is hopeless) and Oxford is very difficult for car drivers. Either do park and ride or leave yourself plenty of time and print a map.
Excellent location, great design hotel There was an issue with my bill at checkout. Reception quite rude
I can see how the set-up would work as a base for Tourists or Contract workers Breakfast was made in a Microwave and tasted like it
Very friendly & helpfull staff / owners Our rom, which was very comfotable was at the top floor of the hotel. We had two rather large cases to lug upstairs. No help fromstaff. However when we came to leave aftertwo enjoyable days there, a very strong and helpful chap carried our cases down to the lobby. Very much a boon as I waas not looking forward to lugging the cases back down two flights of stairs
The room was spacious and clean, very comfortable We had breakfast but the food was not very nice at all
Friendly Staff, good service, Excellent rooms, close to city. no
Good location. Nice room with a very pleasant breakfast service. Very low water pressure in the shower
Brilliant facilities and system - like the self catering aspect Would have been nice to have a full length mirror!
Comfortable bed & nice crisp linen. A glorified B&B, overpriced and tired looking. Bath filthy & shower head dripping. Cont breakfast served on Sundays, not at all appitizing.
The room was fantastic, staff were extremely friendly. Breakfast in the room, Woooo Hooooo. Oxford is a difficult place to find accomodation. Save your time, book with the MHH, you wont be disappointed and you will save hours trying to find a room elsewhere. There was nothing about this hotel I didnt like.
Excellent service Too much free yougurt
The reception staff were amiable and helpful. Regret to say one of the mattresses was very lumpy - we could not get a comfortable night's rest.
Clean, reasonably quiet, nice friendly owners/staff, convenient to downtown Oxford Shower a bit cramped, room small
Clean, comfortable, walkable to the Oxford campus and buildings, very friendly hosts Wished it were slightly less expensive!!
Staff were very pleasant. Close walking distance into Oxford The bedroom was tiny and the shower room smelt stale. The house was 'tired' and there was no hot water in the sink(didn't try the shower)
1. Close to the center (7-10 min walk). 2. Staff. 3. Breakfast (you can choose between continental or English). 4. Except for the small problem with the overday parking, everything was ok. 1. Though the nearby parking is promised, you will have to put your car into park-and-ride parking place (approx. 2 km southward), which will take you some 15 minutes (including several bus stops). During night, you can leave your car in front of the guest house or in the nearby 2hour parking (night is free).
Everything you can expect from a good B&B. Very good location: not far from the centre of Oxford in a quiet street.
The owner was extremely warm and friendly, as was the service.the roos were impecably clean and newly decorated, and very pleasant. the one draw back was reservation times being limited. One has to call when you arrive at the door as the owner lives somewhere else. For me with a Belgian tel. this was awkward, as it would be for all non-british residens. I dont know what the solution could be!
nice room that was well decorated. friendly staff who were helpful with directions etc no welcome when we arrived, even though we had pre-arranged that we would be arriving late.
Nothing Mold in bathroom in wood panels and through out shower tiles, very dirty vent fan, did not replace tissues, very old mattress, dirty tea kettle
The room was clean and obviously recently renovated. However, it was very, very tiny. Breakfast service was fine. Location is fine, 15 min walking from the High Street. Wireless internet service was fine. Checking in very poor - nobody was there, although booking was made one month in advance. By pure chance contractors who renovated a room has left front doors opened, otherwise I would have to wait on the street with my luggage until owner comes back.
Friendly owners, pleasant position Lack of en suite facilities (not serious)
Rooms are of good quality and clean, the restaurant was of very high standard both for evening meals and breakfasts. Even the dog was happy!
Restaurant area is excellent fanily room above bar was very noisy until gone 1am - rooms in main annex would probably be excellent though
Good Pub, Lively atmosphere, quiet accommodation Shower soak away
the room had a musty smell. The staff were quite young and seemed inexperienced although helpful.Overpriced.
Clean. Well lit. Pleasant staff. Good location for our needs. Few 'flat surfaces' in room - nowhere for a lady to get ready for an evening out (mirror, socket, table, chair not in proximity). Not even a shelf in the bathroom to put a toiletry bag! Breakfast certainly below what I'd expect for such a place - 'full English breakfast' wasn't close to 'full'.
Staff friendly and helpful The food was of a poor standard and overpriced
great service and food staff responsive and ensured we had all we needed nothing
Clean room friedly owner. its a BandB clear and simple..no frills, plain and simple. Not worth £95 per room.
Wonderful service NO
Location is excellent, a short walk away from the bus and train stations. Rooms are decent, clean and comfortable. The shared toilet shower area was a little dark and the floor felt a little dirty..water did not clear fast enough resulting in a little flooding.
Great food, lovely staff and surroundings Shower was a bit on the poor side, but we had a bath too which made up for that!
Very pleasant hotel in a very quiet village-like location. Very close to centre of Oxford.
The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff.
Reasonable evening menu. Good standard Breakfast Not advised about non availability of restuarant first night. Restuarant occupied by privat function. However alternative arrangements by manager acceptable.
Attentive helful staff 1) Our booking had been recorded for December, not January - some delay in checking in 2) WiFi not available from room 3) "Toast" was slightly warm soft bread - uncooked 4) Wardrobe sways from side to side!
Hotel stuff are exellent. Bugs in my room and chip wallpaper and paint spoil the big and lovely room.
The staff were very polite and attentive Our shower did not work properly
Excellent location near the river Thames. Great for running, jogging,or walking. The food was very good.
I really enjoyed the dinner, the food was really good. the hiting didn't work in the room also the pictures shown in their webpage don't match the reality at all
Friendly staff and hot food nice location Would have like to see a manager or reception staff on duty
