Pros: You can tell the owner/manager cares about this place and the service provided. There was a difference between what she had on file and our reservation through Kayak, and she rectified it immediately. She also went above and beyond in providing recommendations and even helping to track down a lost credit card.

Pros: The location of the hotel is perfect for walking around the shops and grabbing dinner.
Cons: Our room was really small especially the shower. We both banged our arms on it trying to shower. Not what we are used to.
Cons: Working on the room above use for two days. Couldn't. Be in our room during the day to relax. While on vacation till after 18:00..
Pros: Great location. Easy waking distance to harbor area. Very nice staff. Very good Breakfast. Restaurant extremely busy every night with locals and tourists so difficult to have dinner without reservation.
Cons: Very noisy until after midnight every night as patrons exited restaurant/bar and hung around on street below our bedroom. Recommend you request room at back of hotel or bring earplugs
Pros: The location was great with plenty of street parking nearby. We are only a few blocks away from the main church. You can easily walk anywhere n the Reykjavik area. The room was also comfortable and very clean. The Snaps restaurant is also great for a meal.
Pros: We liked the location near city center and the view out our 3rd floor balcony. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower was especially welcome after a day of horseback riding and sightseeing. The restaurant in the hotel, Snaps was very accommodating by seating us near closing. They served an excellent meal.
Cons: On street parking was a little unnerving but turned out fine. It seems that after 6:30pm free parking on the streets is a free-for-all in Reykjavik with anything goes.
Pros: The front desk staff was amazing. They helped us several time with questions we had We rented one of their apartments for a couple days and it was huge. Wonderful street views and easy walking distance to everything you need. We never ate at their restaurant but we have heard is very good and reasonably priced.
Pros: The front desc staff were absolutely wonderful and most helpful in both the usual ways and also in requests that were less common, Like coming out to help me use the parking meter
Cons: We liked everything
Located in the heart of Reykjavik, this hotel is within a 5-minute walk of Asgrimur Jonsson Collection and Hallgrimskirkja. Reykjavik City Hall and National Museum of Iceland are also within 15 minutes.
Pros: Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The price was right!
Breakfast was very satisfying.
The staff were very pleasant.
Cons: With 10 beds and a check out time of 10:00 AM I had a problem
getting into the toilet. I suggest that there be an alternative access to use another toilet if someone is showering and dressing in a locked bathroom!
A suggestion: Please inform new hostlers how to turn the light switch off. I came in from the airport and went into room at 2:00 AM. Put the
light on but could not shut it. At some point a 'sleeper' go up and showed me to press it twice!

Also, National Museum of Iceland and Perlan are within a short drive.
Pros: Location was easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: They say that they provide a hot breakfast, but I found that this really meant just buffet style eggs and bacon. Everything else was more of a continental breakfast style.
Pros: Quiet location, but 10 min walk to everything. Breakfast buffet (hot) included. Absolutely best staff attentive, accommodating, engaging. Houses one of the finer restaurants in the city plus a nice bar downstairs. Tea and coffee and mini bar in the room. Would absolutely stay again.
Cons: Single rooms on the top floor are drafty because of the balcony doors.
Pros: Very good staff, clean and comfortable, splurge restaurant. Arranged several details including transfers and day trips via the staff. Quick walk to old town in both directions - reflecting pool or Hallgrimskirka. Solid.
Cons: Not cheap, rooms are not large, but that's not their fault.

Pros: Most cooperative and friendly staff. Great location too.
Cons: Rooms were a bit small.

Pros: I enjoyed the high end quality from top to bottom of the hotel! It was immaculate, stylish and staff was helpful and enjoyable.
Cons: I would have preferred to have been closer to downtown so I could walk to the downtown area. However, that would mean having a big hotel in the middle of a great little town. I understand that they are building something closer to town that fits in to the surroundings, so I'll have to try that when it opens.
Pros: The staff was very helpful and friendly, the restaurant was excellent. You can book tours from the operator in the lobby. Great views from our top floor room. We definitely recommend that you stay here and enjoy the beautiful country.
Cons: Location is just a wee bit far away but buses or a short walk will get you downtown and closer to more dining choices
Pros: Great view of the bay, executive lounge was first class.

From the Icelandic Sagas to contemporary art, Reykjavik has a buzzing cultural scene. A constant flow of innovative music, theatrical performances and cultural events keeps locals and visitors entertained all year round.
Cons: The hotel staff were rude and not helpful. One night there was so much noise from people talking and partying until 3:00 am. Could not sleep. The buses no linger pick you up at the hotel. It the walk to the bus stop is less than five minutes. It was still inconvenient with all our luggage. We did not know that when booking.
Pros: Excellent location within walking distance to busy city center
Great value for the money
Prompt service from staff & housekeeping
Nice little restaurant in the lobby
Cons: For some reason the TV was messed up most of the time (would get frozen on certain channels and would have to get up and turn it off). However, was not in the room much, so this was not a big issue.
Pros: The hotel is centrally located in Reykjavik and next door to some excellent restaurants. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area.
Pros: Location was good.
Cons: Parking was listed but it was public parking. We had to drive around and parked a few blocks away.
Pros: Location! You can not beat the location of the Centrum. Also the front desk staff is awesome. They can book all of your excursions for you and if you would like dinner reservations, they can suggest where and then make the reservations for you. The hotel bar happy hour was excellent if you like beer and craft cocktails.
Cons: The room size was a little small and there was no place for a second piece of large luggage. Also, even with the radiator in the off position, the room was extremely hot. We were forced to sleep with the windows open. The amount of noise coming from the street from cars and people at all hours of the night caused us not to get a good nights sleep in the 8 days that we were there. I wish I would have brought ear plugs.
Pros: Outstanding staff. Very clean. Very central. Convenient bar and restaurant.
Cons: Slow wifi.
Pros: Close to old parts of town. In fact, hotel is built over museum for first settlement.
Pros: It was clean, desk staff were pleasant
Cons: The hotel had messed up the reservations. My reservation through Kayak was fine. However, a hotel block that was to be released 45 days before my arrival was still on the books (I was joining a hiking group) and they tried to get me to pay for that supposed reservation. In talking with the agency that had arranged the room block for this particular hiking group, this is not the first time that this hotel has done this. In addition, a friend of mine who had confirmed her reservation at Hotel Centrum before leaving the US, received an e-mail that they were overbooked and she had to go to another hotel---even though Hotel Centrum had double bookings and indeed did have rooms.
Pros: Location in town.
Cons: Ridiculous price for room that had no amenities. Paid five star price for two star motel. Room small, bed uncomfortable. Everything extra.
Opened in 2005, this hotel is made up of historical Reykjavik buildings, located in the old city centre and next door to Althing (the parliament).
Pros: Great location. Quiet and close to everything. Room was adequate for my purposes and comfortable to sleep in. The staff was helpful and friendly. Will definitely come back.
Pros: Quiet, private.
Cons: I arrived at 7am but paid for the night before because I needed to sleep. At 12 noon it here was a nock on the door and a moment later a phone call. They wanted me to check out even though I had a five day reservation . Actually should not of been charged for the first day because I didn't get what I paid for, sleep.
The staff was always to busy on the computer to acknowledge guest unless you engaged them.
Pros: Clean rooms, nice decor
Cons: Not best value for the money. Breakfast expensive
Pros: The room was large by European standards. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Great location. Would definitely stay here again.
This gracious 1930s hotel is located in the beaufiful square of Austurvollur, in the heart of Reykjavik and across from Althingi, the Icelandic parliament and the cathedral.
When you stay at 101 hotel, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Hallgrimskirkja and Reykjavik City Hall. Guests can indulge in massages and enjoy international cuisine at 101 Restaurant and Bar, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A bar/lounge and a fitness center are other highlights, and rooms at this luxurious hotel offer up nice touches like iPod docks and premium bedding.
Pros: Everything about this stay was fantastic. The rooms were massive by European standards and so were the beds. They were heated nicely and had heated towel racks, lighting and tech was great. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The location was pretty good.
Cons: The only downside is you aren't right downtown but it's tough to say really what downtown actually is. It's such a big sprawl of a city so it's in Reykjavik but just not the heart I guess, they have a shuttle to make up for this.
Pros: Luxury hotel
Cons: Location was a bit away from the city centre. Taxi cabs are very expensive.
Pros: They were very Eco-friendly and "green." Pretty clean and modern.
Cons: The staff was not very accommodating at all. I reserved a superior room with a double bed, and they gave us 2 twin beds. After speaking with the front desk, all they could tell us was that they are fully booked, and that you're never guaranteed the type of bed you want, but we could push the 2 twin beds together if we'd like. No, thank you. We were only staying there for one night, so we decided not to push the issue.
Checkout is at noon, but after reading the hotel info they provide you with in the room, I saw they offer late checkout at 2pm as an option. So, that evening I called the desk to request late checkout, and the woman I spoke with could not give me a yes or no. She said I have to speak with the day staff. I called at 8am the following morning and the woman informed me again that they are fully booked. Ok, but I'm just asking to check out at 2pm. Check in for any new guests is at 4pm. That still gives cleaning crew 2 hours to get the room ready for any new guests arriving. I even tried to compromise and say can we at least stay until 1pm? We were catching the shuttle to the airport at 2pm from the hotel, and didn't have anywhere to go for 2 hours if we checked out at noon. She told me they could hold our luggage and we could go downtown and shop. No, I'm not risking missing the airport shuttle because you told me to go to town and spend $$. So after me asking the same question in 4 different ways, she finally said ok, you can check out at 1pm. Well wow! Thanks a million, Grand Hotel. We won't be staying with you on our next trip to Iceland.
Pros: Comfortable bed.
Pros: The hotel was very clean, staff were helpful, our room had a beautiful view of the city and the water, and the room itself was nice. The double bed fit two large adults easily, which was a concern when we were booking. The bathroom also included a tub in addition to the shower. The lobby area was nice with large doors to see out when waiting for tour guides or cabs, and was filled with pamphlets of various activities. Hair dryer/iron & board/mini fridge and laundry service pick up available.
Cons: The location was a bit further from the city than anticipated, it's listed as a medium walking distance, it is walkable, just not desirable on cold/rainy nights, approximately 20kr cab ride. The dinner buffet was fairly expensive and we didn't really care for it, we preferred the restaurants around the corner or in town and the cost was similar or less, potentially regular ordering tasted better than the buffet. No shampoo/conditioner/lotion, I always bring my own, but wanted to note.
Pros: They have all the basics. The hotel may be good for large groups/bus loads of people who need a place far from city center to rest for a night.
Cons: Politely rude staff: At 1:45 PM and earlier they say "Checkin is at 2 PM". Service Industry speak for Piss Off. 1:58 PM, "Your room is not ready". 2:02 PM, "We don't know if it is ready" (communication problems with housekeeping?)
They sometimes seemed annoyed answering questions people had about how to go somewhere in the city or which day excursions are available. "Here's a brochure." is their typical answer. They never tell you the actual details of where to go or what to expect.
Rooms were very basic. Tiny pillows on bed. Two cotton comforters on double bed, each was the size of a large towel.
Breakfast and Dinner are very over priced.
Pros: Nice parking lot
Cons: Room was very warn, sheets did not fit the bed and furniture was dirty. Staff was not friendly. The hotel was not inexpensive and was probably the second worst I have ever stayed in. I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel.
Pros: Easy access, lots of parking, modern building and rooms
Great to see Monaco and Cyprus Olympic teams there too,
Pros: Breakfast Buffet was excellent, lots of nice areas to sit in in lobby and restaurant. Nice staff.
Pros: The duvet. Very comfortable. The breakfast is included and very filling, especially to brave the cold of Rekyavik.
Cons: The staff did mess up our tour reservation once and we had to ask management time and again for something to be done about it. The desk in the room had some coffee stains and the shower door does not prevent the water from going all over the bathroom! Plus the hotel was definitely a bit distant from city center.
This family-friendly Reykjavik hotel is located in the business district, within a 10-minute walk of Asmundarsafn, Laugardalsholl, and Laugardalsvollur. Hallgrimskirkja and Perlan are also within 2 mi (3 km).
Pros: Very clean and modern. I didn't realize it had a kitchen included. Perfect location, quiet but on a nice street right in the middle of everything. Good Buffett breakfast. Good security. Good heating.
Pros: Best location for shopping, central to the city. Complimentary breakfast is a great way to start the day--so convenient! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again!
Cons: Although I didn't experience any noise (staying early in the week), I could foresee noise issues near the weekend and in the summer.
Pros: We booked a double room and it was really more like a one bedroom. Had a stove and separate seating area, was clean and we had no problems with noise!
Pros: Everything. This place was fantastic. The Staff was helpful, the location can't be beat; you're in the middle of town, on the main street. walking distance to shops and restaurants. Nice size room, fridge - really the best value / location we stayed in Iceland. Good breakfast options compared to other places we stayed. Recommended.
Pros: Nice, clean, spacious rooms
Pros: The rooms and location were excellent. The breakfast was included but not that impressive.
Pros: Tyeblocation, size of the room, value and the included breakfast
Cons: No way to wash our clothes, no hot tub and only five channels to choose from
Pros: Walking distance to most of towns best sights and restaurants. Felt very safe and the breakfast was great. I would stay here again.
Cons: Parking was hard to find. That is to be expected when staying in any downtown area. Dining is expensive everywhere in Iceland. For a one in a lifetime place to see. It was still worth it.
Pros: Hotel was walking distance to shopping. Had a small kitchen with burners, microwave, refrigerator and dishes. Stayed 4 nights and made dinner 3 of those nights.Going out to eat very expensive Bonus (supermarket) is just 2 blocks away. Staff is extremely helpful. We arrived at 8am and there was a room ready for us.
Cons: Make sure you get to breakfast on time. Close doors exactly at 9:30 and by 9:15 slim pickings on options. It could be that it is early but staff wasn't that welcoming for breakfast. Just basic offerings - toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, meat, cheese, yogurt. Was fine for us but for those who like a hot breakfast it isn't available
They cut fruit in half so for those of you who like to grab and apple for later in the day that isn't an option.
Hotel Fron offers a great location, putting you within a 15-minute walk of Hallgrimskirkja and Reykjavik City Hall. Guests looking for a bite to eat can check out Scandinavian, which serves lunch and dinner. There's a bar/lounge, and rooms offer minibars and room service.
Pros: Staff was very responsive to our request to change rooms. Rooms had a nice (small) outside sun deck.
Cons: It's a little far from the tourist area (shops and restaurants) but that might be an advantage as we got more exercise.
Pros: Just the cutestest hostel ever. Very trendy, clean and comfortable. Spacious rooms, clean bathrooms and showers. Guests were very respectful. Had no trouble sleeping in the evenings. Great bar and sitting area in the reception area to drink and meet other travelers. Food was delicious at the restaurant. Excellent location, located on the main road, central in downtown. Most tours pick up just outside their door steps, as well as local bus stops. Although, it's easy to walk everywhere from there. Absolutely, love it and hope to stay there again one day.
Cons: No negatives.
Pros: Decent price and location
Cons: Much dirtier in person
Kitchen appliances don't work (stoves, ovens, microwaves) so use and need of kitchen is pointless
People staying there do not clean their dishes, and cleaning crew doesn't do them either, so there's always a sink full of dirty dishes and no utensils.
Advertises soap and shampoo provided yet they give 1 tiny bottle of shampoo that people end up stealing so no soap or shampoo
Same with the soap in the bathrooms. No soap.
Checked out a day early (almost 30 hours early) yet told that no refund would be given because not given 24 hours notice (?)
Pros: Classy breakfast buffet, wide spaces in the dorm rooms, not too cramped, evening shift front desk worker "Gary the Great" is a not a cool friendly dude, but extremely helpful.
Pros: laid back fun atmosphere
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like
Pros: Friendly staff, decent location, clean dorms, nice locker for suitcase.
Cons: Not having bathrooms for both sexes on both sides of the floor. Layout of dorms not great. Bad internet
Pros: This review is about the two floors of the hotel which are a hostel, not a hotel.
They lend you a tiny (nearly a joke, I guess) lock to put on the small cubby boxes in the room. 1000ISK deposit.
The kitchen contains dishwashers.
Cons: I stayed in a room with 12 or 14 beds. The doors on these rooms are "underdamped", meaning they are designed or adjusted to slam very very loudly if you let them close by themselves. It shakes not just the room, but is even obnoxious during the day if you're in a common kitchen or lounge down/across the hall. The door in my room was slammed AT ALL HOURS of the day except 12h30 -- 03h00 a.m. by the absurdly inconsiderate guests.
The problem is that there is no effort by the hostel to tell people how to behave, and for some reason a large cross-section of the sample of young travellers in my room seem entirely oblivious to the surely-obvious effects of their actions on other people. There were no quiet hours announced. No one was told to close doors quietly.
I was dumbfounded how people stayed up shouting, drinking, etc inside the dorm room (there are couches) until midnight, even when others were obviously trying to sleep, and the same people when they were on a different schedule, were up at 03h a.m. sharp talking loudly, and slamming the door countless times again.
I mentioned to the staff that there was an educational solution (maybe) to this problem, but they didn't seem very interested.
In addition to all that, the rooms, which look nothing nice as clean as in the pictures online (of course), have little cubby boxes below the beds where you supposedly can lock your valuables. The locking tabs are a bit of a joke, maybe, but in my room several were actually broken off anyway, so there was no way to lock them.
This was my worst hostel experience ever.
When you stay at Hlemmur Square, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Hallgrimskirkja and Perlan. Guests indulge in massages, then grab a bite to eat at the restaurant. Other highlights include a bar/lounge, and rooms offer 24-hour room service and free WiFi.
Cons: 3 restrooms/floor, walkable to city center and grocery stores but not within 10 min
Putting you just a 5-minute drive from Hallgrimskirkja and Perlan, Bus Hostel Reykjavik offers an airport shuttle (available 24 hours) for ISK 5000 per person. You can relax with a drink at the bar/lounge, and the coffee shop/café is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat. Rooms feature bonuses like refrigerators and microwaves.
City Center Hotel was opened in 2011 and is located in the heart of Reykjavik, capital of Iceland. Located at Austurstraeti 6, one of the oldest streets in the 101 district of Reykjavik, City Center Hotel is a 3 star high quality accommodation with an outstanding location situated close to many restaurants and clubs. We thrive on being by far the best 3 star hotel in Reykjavik and offer our customers exceptional service, quality and value.
City Center Hotel has 30 rooms with modern and classic amenities such as free high speed wireless internet access, hair dryer, mini-bar, telephone with free local calls and LCD TV with satellite, coffee & tea maker. All rooms have bathrooms with a shower or a bathtub. Our Superior rooms on the upper floors have a great view over the parliament square and some have balconies as well and provide our guests extra amenities such as slippers, bathrobe and Nespresso coffee machine. The hotel also provides facilities for disabled. At the Hotel, guests will find small gym to maintain their fitness during the stay, a lobby bar and seating area by the reception with complimentary coffee 24 hours a day.
Cons: We weren't notified in advance that Centerhotel had moved us to another hotel. We were exhausted from traveling and would have appreciated nothing more than going to sleep at the hotel we booked.
The staff at the Arnarhvoll did order a taxi that took us to the new hotel. The hotel we were bumped to, Centerhotel Plaza, was in a better location in the downtown.
Pros: The design of the hotel is great. Its very modern and sleek.
The views are fantastic. Whether you're at the Sky Lounge or the comfortable lobby, you can clearly see the beautiful harbor and mountain range.
The location of the hotel is also great. Its right by the downtown area and can easily walk to the strip without the barrage of traffic. The hotel is also 5 minutes from many museums and shops by the harbor and beyond.
Cons: Because of the central location, space is tight. The room offers minimal storage and the bathroom has a convertible shower that takes advantage space. The design was beautiful but the quarters were close.
The breakfast was OK. It was the first meal I had where fish was not an option. The crumbled eggs were dry and actually crunchy. Bacon was either burnt or raw. However, the view from the top of the hotel easily distracted these inconveniences.
Located in the heart of Reykjavik, this romantic hotel is within a 15-minute walk of Arnarholl Statue, Hallgrimskirkja, and Reykjavik City Hall. National Museum of Iceland and Perlan are also within 2 mi (3 km).
Pros: Privacy and friendly staff at the reception. Good people standing behind the desk.
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful with information on getting around Reykjavik. The food was excellent. Loved the Folk art and displays in the lobby. It was a very nice stay for my first visit to Iceland.
Cons: The only thing that didn't work was th TV in our room. When the staff couldn't seem to fix it we were given vouchers for a beverage of our choice from the bar. It worked out just fine, instead of sitting in our room we went out and about the city and had a great time, better than TV any day!
Pros: Nice rooms, welcoming staff at reception, very clean and comfy. Not walking distance to downtown Reykajvik, but still a very pleasant hotel. If you are going to leisure I would make sure you have a rental car.
Cons: The restaurant wasn't that great, (underdone chicken), waitstaff wasn't friendly, especially if your breakfast wasn't part of the package. The spa staff gave contradictory information to reception staff, so better communication would've been helpful .
Pros: Crisp, clean rooms. Sharp lines very modern look inside
Cons: Breakfast is a barely mediocre buffet for 3000isk (about $30) a person
Pros: Located directly next to domestic airport in Reykjavik - very convenient since I flew in/out of airport - walked to airport - no need to take expensive taxi - clean room - friendly staff
Pros: The room and all amnesties were great. Very comfortable for our last night in Iceland.
Cons: The extra charges for breakfast were quite high.
Pros: Nice location, but the rooms were dated, the TV was very old, the wifi worked intermittently, the breakfast buffet was pricey, and the beds were not comfortable.
Situated near the airport, this spa hotel is within a 15-minute walk of Reykjavik University and Perlan. Hallgrimskirkja and National Museum of Iceland are also within 1 mi (2 km).
Pros: Interior of the hotel was very clean, location was pretty good, and the free WiFi was useful and worked well. Room was much quieter than many hotels, with earplugs in I only heard hallway noises (not the people next door, above, and below, as is common). Breakfast was decent (but plates, bowls, utensils, and cups could be in short supply). Check-in was inconvenient but they do have a nice luggage room and were perfectly willing to hold our bags both day of arrival and day of departure, while we did some sightseeing.
Cons: It felt a lot like a hostel - difference being the fact they provided sheets and own bathroom. Breakfast was better than what's offered at most hostels I've stayed at but felt very similar otherwise (complete with threatening signs). Our reservation paperwork said check-in was at 2:00--when we arrived, staff was insistent that it was 3:00, and no, no early check-in available. Well before 3:00, the lobby was crowded with people waiting to check-in.
Pros: Good price. Clean. Free Breakfast. Shuttle to the bust terminal.
Cons: Tiny beds and bathroom. Not the best location in Reykjavik.
Pros: Room looked like it had been take from an Ikea Catalogue - devoid of any decoration. We stayed in the new section which was very clean and the beds firm. The inclusion of a fridge was a nice addition. Iceland it seems is always cold and the heating in the hotel worked very efficiently. WiFi worked well in the rooms. The young men who worked on the front desk were always helpful and friendly in arranging tours and airport buses. Its close location to downtown was nice - the whole area around the hotel is undergoing renovation so there is some noise with possibly more to come when the hotel across the street starts work. Theses inconveniences are possibly why the hotel has such competitive rates.
Cons: Having stayed in Iceland previously I found the lack of variety in the breakfast difficult after 4 days. Food is incredibly expensive in Iceland so the inclusion of a cold breakfast with juice and coffee is a great added advantage. In the new section small things like a tv that you can view from the bed (as there is only one chair) would have been a great idea instead of mounting it directly to the wall close to the window. An electric kettle would be a nice addition an added item in most English, Scottish and European hotels we stayed in.
Putting you within a 10-minute drive of Hallgrimskirkja and Perlan, Hotel Klettur offers an airport shuttle at scheduled times for ISK 2500 per person. Guests looking to stay active can check out the nearby hiking/biking trails, and free perks include WiFi, self parking, and buffet breakfast daily. There's also a bar/lounge, and rooms offer LCD TVs and refrigerators.
