'my daughter just got married this weekend (may 15, 2010) on bald head island. i warn you now...DO NOT GET MARRIED THERE. we hosted the reception at the shoals club. please be warned that the service and food was HORRIFYING. we visited the island 3 times to help plan my daughter's wedding. we taste tested the food well in advance. we ordered prime rib and crab cakes because they were excellent at the taste test. sadly, at the reception, the shoals club did NOT deliver what we taste tested. the prime rib had to have been shaved on a deli meat slicer. it was not prime rib. it was a junky piece of thin-shaved roast beef like you could buy in a store. and the crab cake was small and stale. worse, the service was terrible. we rented 5 homes and had alot of family in for the wedding. we hosted some of the family and friends to our home for brunch. they fraudulently charged $*to our credit card for having a party in a house. that's just INSANE. we had the bridal party reception at the ba...

Can't beat location or views and the price was not bad, but our room smelled like smoke. They were nice enough to give us another room, but that smelled like smoke too and there was a bottle full of cigarette butts on the balcony. This was very disappointing since they claim to be a non-smoking place. We had to keep the balcony door opened all weekend to air it out. The pullout sofa bed was pretty uncomfortable too. The mattress was not thick enough and you could feel the metal bars. Housekeeping didn't show up until 5pm on Sat and they only gave us a few clean towels and didn't bother to take the dirty ones. There was something sticky on the carpet in the living room that I kept stepping on in my bare feet which was gross. Lastly, no one bothered to tell me that you check in and out at the Hilton and they charge you $9.00/day for parking.

This was my first trip to Wilmington and I really enjoyed it. Hotel was perfect for me and my two children ages 8 and 3. Staff very friendly and the rooms were very nice. Complementary breakfast was full of variaty. I felt like the hotel was less than 10 minutes from everything! Beach, mall, and great restaurants! Will definitely be visiting again soon.
