I love the country setting and the peace and quiet, very romantic with the fireplaces inside 2
Quirky and quaint, cool retreat right on the slopes of Bolton Valley Ski Area. Great fireplace!
The idea of a retreat that was peaceful and relaxing is what attracted us to book the Lotus. However, the property is quite old and has not been maintained. I think the staff mean well, but I think there is a lack of rigor for quality and taking care of the facilities so that they are not so run down. For example, the Yoga room in the pictures on the web looks amazing, bright and welcoming to do some stretching and relaxing. In reality it is a dark, dingy and cluttered room that doesn't welcome you to do anything but never want to use it.
The staff are very hands off, which is fine, except they don't know what is happening on their property or possibly they run a muck. The 2nd night, we received some unpleasant neighbors who were rude, loud and obnoxious, they seemed to be friends with one of the staff. As the walls between rooms are paper-thin, literally you could hear somebody breathing in the other room, we were kept up late by these boisterous new guests. If it were any other hotel (1) there would not be any issue because the structure would be more sound proof (2) it wouldn't be an issue because it would be a commercial property. The Lotus brands itself as a RETREAT that offers peace and tranquility. Not the place for loud mouth, music playing self absorbed humans. If I wanted to be around those people, I would have stayed home in the big city or booked at a commercial hotel.
Seemed like all the staff that lived there really has a great time. They were always friendly when I sought someone out to ask for something
I was very diaspointed with my stay here. For the price especially. First I was brought upstairs into a room that wasn't ready. Then I was brought to a different room with no lock. I was confused when I looked out the window and had no view because someone went out of their way to call me, months ago and offer me an upgrade with 'a better view of the mountain' my reservation was also for a room with a balcony. The next night when I showed a member of the staff the email and discussed my confusion she had us moved and told me she would look at getting dinner comped. Two days later she did not remember this conversation at all. Their hot tub is out of order, there is no outdoor pool ( or maybe there is and no one would tell me about it) their Kombucha bar is out of order. No mention at any point of any 'spa services'. After wandering around the empty in for a while I did manage to find someone to wake up the yoga instructor and that was fun. Constantly felt like I was chasing people to ask for things like mugs for the tea and about literally any of the services they offer They also went out of their way to tell me the place was ski in ski out for Bolton valley. By this they meant, we are welcome to get into our cars and drive up the road to the resort. That is not ski in ski out. I was very excited and very misled. Considering there was no tv or amenities and I paid full price for practically every meal ( they did comp breakfast once after I pushed) not really sure why I paid so much for this place. Very misleading
Very comfy bed. Cozy lounge room. Beautiful lodge. Very pretty in the snow. While breakfast was at an additional price, it was very tasty. Nice retreat.
There was no coffee - staff didn't know where it was located. Kambucha on tap (which was advertised) wasn't working. While staff were friendly, it didn't seem like they were expecting us when we showed up as the heat hadn't been turned on previously in our room. Also when we arrived, it took a little while for a staff to come to help us even though we arrived during the check in time identified (3pm-8pm).
