I rented through kayak and thought I was getting a caravan. When I picked it up they said they had no vans as they were all in the shop. I was given a huge gmc Yukon Denali Nice car but too big for this grandma to drive and park. I took it but returned it 3 days later for a ford escape which was small. They were Nice about the return but the inventory was too limited. Big or small car. Easy rent and return.Reviewed Apr 20 2026

The car was severely damaged by hail at pickup. They tried to charge me $250 for a cleaning fee that once Budget corporate saw the photos showing that it was returned clean, they reversed. Will not be renting from this office again.Reviewed Apr 20 2026

I tried to change my reservation before traveling to SFO but couldn’t. Then when I arrived at the counter, the line of customers waiting was shockingly long. One woman was in tears after having waited in line only to be told that since she had a reservation, she was in the wrong line and needed to go downstairs instead. Once there, she found a line just as long as the one upstairs. Poor communication. Poor execution. I rented from Hertz instead. I will never book through kayak again.Reviewed Apr 20 2026

Excellent car at reasonable price. Lot was not very brightly lit, so could not easily examine condition of car at time of rental. Person at counter said car burned regular fuel, but gas cap said car required premium fuel - so, several extra $’s spent on gas.Reviewed Apr 19 2026

The reservation people were not helpful at all. First Lady told me there was only one car available and it was electric. I told her I was not comfortable with that bc I am lot familiar with electric cars. She found another car that was a way too big for me to feel safe driving. Strange, because in a parking lot with hundreds of cars, she initially said there was only one car available. The. She told me that budget doesn’t work with Allstate and that I needed the insurance. Then she told me I had to get the tolls coverage bc we were driving from LA to San Diego. We did not use any toll roads. When I went to the garage and saw the giant car she gave me, I went back inside and spoke with another person. He said he had no idea why she would say there was only one car available, there were plenty. The second person gave me a Dodge Hornet but failed to tell me it was a plug in hybrid. I did not realize it was plug-in until we got to our hotel an hour away. I spent too much time online trying to learn how the plug-in works, where I could charge it and how long it would take to charge. We took it to a charging station, only to find out that the Dodge uses a different type of plug. I called Budget several times asking for help and no one seemed to be able to give me helpful information. I finally found a charging station that would work in the garage of a public library. Then I had to download an app and set up an account to use it. And pay for four hours of parking ant the library. After 3 hours and 45 minutes to charge fully, we drove to San Diego. Battery all used up in one hour and ten minutes. Budget representatives were the worst! They did not seem to want to help me or rectify the situation. Renting a car is supposed to make your vacation less stressful so you can go where you want to when you want to, not have to rely on the schedules of public transportation or Uber/Lyft. This car rental crests hassle after hassle and wasted a lot of our time on vacation. I will lot use Budget again.Reviewed Apr 19 2026
