8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the spacious accommodation. We booked a two bedroom but it had space enough for six people (two in a fold out sofa). Liked it had two bathrooms, extra convenient when travelling with a child. High standard in kitchen which was fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, oven and microwave. Enough kitchenware to be able to do some easy cooking but were missing a measurement kit for smaller units. We also liked that the stairs had motion detector light. Don't miss to try out the door bell. Wi-fi connection stable. Would absolutely book again.
Cons: If you're visiting from an area or country with high water quality and are not accustomed to chlorinated water, don't forget to buy bottled water before your arrival. It wasn't possible to buy still bottled water at the resort. We've lived in the area before and water quality is good but maybe this resort has an own water purification system or it was something temporary. If you're picky, bring your own water for coffee/tea, toothbrushing and drinking. We were a little bit chocked about the entrance/exit road to the resort from/to A38. If you're British it won't be a surprise with short slip roads but fellow foreign travellers beware of the traffic situation.

Cons: The only thing I didn’t like was the amount of cars parked in the disabled bays without a blue badge. My brother is a blue badge holder and I had the last bay, surrounded by £50k+ cars parked in there with no badges!!

Breakfast plenty to eat, can have own omelette made and pancakes with chocolate sauce mmm, Hotel very big and rooms spacious, leisure facilities big pool, jacuzzi, sauna steam and a extra foot massage by pool. Everything about the hotel was big and lovely, all staff polite and accommodating especially the young lady on reception. Thank you for a great stay and I will return with my grandkids. Views specular and a beautiful fountain on arrival.

7.0 Good
Pros: Waitress service at breakfast. Usually stay where we have to help ourselves and i also work in a hotel so nice to be waited on for a change.
Cons: The bed was far to soft for my liking for me i needed a slightly firmer one to give my back support. Otherwise nothing to fault.
7.7 Good
Pros: The rooms are very spacious, and having a choice of bath and shower was important to us, good value for money, breakfast very good plenty of choice and service at breakfast excellent.
Cons: confusion wether to wait at a table and wait for service or to order at the bar, felt a little bit invisible on the first evening, staff appeared to not want to serve the us, and when we asked where do we order (as a hint that we where ready to order) they told my partner it was up to him where he ordered and then quickly walked away. Wether this was due to them being busy I am not sure, however second evening was better but I did notice they where not as busy on the second evening. Breakfast staff could not have been more attentive without being overbearing they were excellent.

Pros: Breakfast choice outstanding (as expected from reviews). Host friendly and accommodating with recommendations for the area and eating. Although slightly out of the village, the walk to the choice of pubs was a short one.
Cons: Busy road out the front a little noisy with windows open
9.5 Excellent

Cons: Bathroom good but would've been even better if ensuite
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location in easy walking distance of High Force and Low Force waterfalls and the town of Middleton in Teesdale inly 3 and a bit miles away. A very short walk to the pub and its friendly atmosphere.
Cons: This sounds churlish, but we would rather have had a settee than the 2 chairs, that's our preference and understandably not everyone elses. The bedroom could possibly benefit by a little more drawer space, but we managed with what was available.

7.0 Good
Pros: Fantastic spa with great facilities and amazing food
Cons: Very strange incident when a man banged on our door at 12-15am and then let himself in claiming to be an alarm engineer. The hotel are looking into it. This disrupted our sleep and was v strange.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The ground and the breakfast
Cons: The room was dated and the bathroom in need of refurbishment. The shower was for the lighting was inadequate as a bulb was out and a lot of the soft furnishings were stained
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent Staff were professional and extremely helpful. Rooms were of a high standard and bedding soft and comfortable. The spa was first class the best spa I’ve visited .The building and grounds were outstanding . Overall a lovely relaxing spa experience in lovely setting
Cons: Nothing The only positive feedback I could give to make it an even more special experience is if they built an infinity pool or included outside hot tubs
9.5 Excellent
Pros: could not believe the facilities at the hotel. fantastic spa and gardens.
Cons: an outdoor hot tub would be perfect
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The facilities around the pools were phenomenal where you were given an order to complete sections to detoxify or massage. The changing facilities were also well supplied. Dinner in the ballroom was delicious and very easy to book at the front desk. Most of the staff were helpful and were able to answer all of our questions. The gym equipment seemed fairly modern and were all easy to use. The gym was always well staffed and had cups of water available if you don’t take your own bottle or if you need a refill. The room was nicely decorated as was the rest of the hotel and it all seemed very bright and airy whilst still keeping some of its transitional style.
Cons: Unfortunately, the person who first served us at the desk was negligent. He misregistered our room key so we couldn’t get in on the second day and he didn’t explain how to reach the spa facilities. The other staff we spoke to afterwards were all much more helpful. 1 of the pools was also closed during our stay which made it quite busy at the remaining pool. Our room was also not serviced on our 2nd day despite having a please clean sign on the door for nearly 5 hours. It also didn’t have the robes and slippers in the rooms but others did seem to have these upon their arrival.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The spa is incredible
Cons: The room was very average with a tiny bath! The hotel forgot to tell us we had resort credit (bought by my mother over the phone for my birthday) and the room was ready at 3.10pm when we had been waiting from 2pm and told it would be ready at 3. It didn’t feel as special as it should have for my 30th birthday.
9.5 Excellent
Cons: Need to look more for vegan food.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Although we didn't have a nice view (looking at the parking lot) we loved our stay here. The rooms are spacious and crispy clean with good beds. You can stay in your bathrope all day, even for breakfast. Perfect to relax.
Cons: The view. Would have loved to stay at the back overlooking the gardens.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dyson hairdryer. Yogurts at breakfast & pancake maker.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Breakfast was lovely.
Cons: The coffee at breakfast was a bit wishy washy ( according to my husband, I had tea which was fine.)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was full of character, clearly had a history.
Cons: Nobody had refilled the shower gel or liquid hand wash, both were empty.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: great market town to visit, the castle is an extra bonus
Cons: I’ve been visiting this place for 8 years. Every year up until this year has been great. I was shocked by how it had changed over the last year, the rooms were dirty, bathrooms were dirty, we had to ask for a toilet roll both days that we stayed. We booked a meal for both nights we stayed which was good, the barman/waiter was great on the night. But I cannot say the same for Paul and Donna, as front of house, they need to smile and greet people and make them feel welcome. We did not feel that this particular stay was our best and we shall not be returning again. Which is a shame as we have enjoyed it thus far.

Pros: Rooms comftable, breakfast was good, location was good.
Cons: Staff some times seemed, a little standoffish, didn't like the reseption eating breakfast at reseption.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Honestly? Nothing. All the aspects you could judge a hotel on were below average or unacceptable. The worst parts though had to be the cleanliness and the woeful breakfast buffet.
Cons: The breakfast, the bed, the bathroom, the shower, the hygeine, the cleanliness, the structure of the bed canopy, the decor, the TV (the remote didn't work every time).........
5.8 Okay
Cons: Road noise, dated room with wall paper falling off wall. No alcohol served in Bar.
5.8 Okay
Cons: The shower ran cold until (in the morning) I discovered the trick of turning the bath hot tap on first. It was too late to call anyone out when I arrived post midnight. Also on check out the person at reception tried to charge me for two breakfasts which I hadn’t ordered or eaten. Disappointing.
Overview Reviews
The 4-star Mercure Burton Upon Trent Newton Park is a grand, Italianate-style country manor in eight acres of grounds. The former home of Staffordshire brewer William Worthington, this Burton-upon-Trent hotel is a grade-II listed building that's the perfect destination for a weekend break. The hotel is just three miles from Burton-upon-Trent and seven miles from Derby. For modern-day thrills, take a family daytrip to nearby Alton Towers theme park (tickets for sale at reception).
6.8 Good
Pros: Surroundings and building were beautiful.
Cons: The price didn’t match the finer points expected
6.8 Good
Pros: the hotel was easy access for the National Arboretum.
Cons: ordered a daily mail. When I asked at reception it had not been done so had to travel into Repton to get a newspaper! Big Board in the reception area advertising a pizza etc. for £15. Does this indicate that nobody is using the restaurant because of the price and lack of variety? We dined out at Repton in the Boot Inn rather than eat in a empty restaurant! The hotel itself could do with some tender loving care and the carpets in the hallways need replacing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful Location within walking distance of church and wedding venue, spacious and attractive grounds, friendly staff, comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast choice. Would visit again when in the area.
Cons: Staff on check - in were not always experienced enough to deal with large booking. This resulted in one family not getting their room with additional bed. Better training would help with this for new staff. Other staff were extremely helpful and attentive to our party of very mixed ages. Would not hesitate to go back.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good building , great location
Cons: Breakfast was expensive especially as it was only a buffet ... in fact we got offered cooked to demand rather than restock the buffet area - sounded a great idea except several of our party could not eat it as it arrived cold !!!
7.0 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good and the reception staff friendly.
Cons: Our downstairs room has a loud hum from a boiler or something. I should have asked to have moved room .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location for what we needed. Stayed here for the second year after a running event near by. Great carpark. Lovely big rooms and massive beds. Pricey for bar drinks (but understand to be expected in a hotel) breakfast a little pricey for what you get at the buffet too but overall a great stay.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and great value for money.
Cons: It was a very hot day and we stayed in a room on the top floor so didn't get much sleep. We did ask for a fan but they had ran out so if you do stay on a hot day , bring your own fan. Also the old sash windows don't stay open which added to the heat in the room.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Shower was a bit erratic.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The bed
Cons: The toilet wasn't clean ...
4.3 Okay
Pros: Good central location
Cons: Rooms smelt, one of smoke, one of poo. Toilet very noisy and smelly. Room had not been cleaned. Offered different room but was only a single. No refund given even though one was requested. Sheets came off in the night, woke up stuck to a plastic sheet!!!
7.5 Good
Pros: It's a very nice and quiet little place. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Bar shut about 10.30 PM.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, good parking for a town centre location.
Cons: It is an old building and I found the stairs a problem but was excellent for what I needed.
6.8 Good
Pros: The breakfast was excellent and we had a key to let ourselves in after hours.
Cons: The room was small for 3 people and the bed was very uncomfortable. It would have been good if the coffee and milk were topped up in the room daily.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Only the price, as I am an old soldier visiting the National Arboretum and needed a place to sleep, and it was a good bed, and the hotel tried, but is obviously or rather hopefully undergoing a refurb as our bedroom was damp with paper falling off walls, but no problem for a former Special Forces officer who has camped in the Arctic in a tent at minus 50c in January (Arctic NATO Watch), and also in hot sweaty jungles, it was a breeze. Butmany, indeed most, would not like Grail till it is done up. JOHN HILL
Cons: see above
7.0 Good
Pros: Great breakfast cooked to order. Only instant coffee though. Didn't eat evening meals there but the menu looked good. Central location ideal for all amenities and sights. Close to the National Brewing Centre and the vast selection of great real ale pubs.
Cons: A bit of TLC required. Curtain pole came away from the wall and I had to do DIY on the bracket. Hand basin in bedroom rather than in the ensuite.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was close to what I needed
Cons: Was a bit old and run down was okay for the money for a business stay
