Staff were pleasant and helpful Room spacious and facilities good Nice touch to have the magazines to read and the luxuries in the bathroom The lighting in the room was poor - one light inbetween the beds was totally inadequate if you wanted to read in bed - room too dark - an additional standard lamp would have been better. The website indicated that the hotel was near to the Aracde Car Park, giving the impression it was easy to park - in fact it was not. When we arrived the car park was full and we had to spend an age trying to find parking facilities and then walk with our luggage to the hotel. The price also for parking was ridiculous - our main objective during our stay was to drive away from Cambridge each day to stay out of the city as long as we could knowning that when we did return the cost of parking would be far too high. Not something we had bargained for.
I was held up for three hours in Customs at Heathrow and advised staff that I would not make the first night of a four night stay. They were not helpful in assisting me in finding another Hilton. I specifically was told by the clerk on check out that I would not be charged for the missed night, but discovered that indeed I have been charged and I am writing sepaerately for a refund. Staff in the bar treated me like a vagrant beaucse my room was not ready and I only had casual clothes. It was only when I put my expensive suit on that I received decent service.
very nice staff, extremely good value for money
The helpfulness of the staff at Reception was very high. I have an accident with my glasses and needed selotape and a pair of scissors. This was produced very quickly. Directions to a local restaurant was also quickly provided together with a large scale map. Quality of the breakfast can be better.
Ideal location in the center, excellent breakfast, hotel has been fully updated, Internet access is now included/free, the staff was very friendly. I have stayed a handful of times over the past 3-4 years and feel it has been improving. Definitely my first choice when traveling to Cambridge
Lovely room , the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. Valet parking was excellent. Great location next to shops and restaraunts Nothing of note
So pleasant and enjoyable!
Proximity to the event I was going to. Staff not great or particularily welcoming.
Very friendly staff Carpets require cleaning in the room. General decor needs refreshing, looks tired and slightly grubby.
Pleasant, helpful staff Slowish service in the restaurant
The staff were all extremely pleasant and friendly. The room was very large and comfortable and the breakfast was yummy! It is the best possible location for a theatre break as Cambridge Arts and the Corn Exchange are both a very short walk away.
Clean, modern, friendly morning member of staff who served us breakfast quietness from other people in the house, we were not disturbed by anybody coming in or out (we were on the top floor) It was nice and warm. Loved the fresh fruit offered for breakfast Pass code given to get in wrong, a resident coming out let us in and had to give us the correct code traffic noise from road intrusive even though we were on the top floor No croissants or even brown bread for breakfast ..."hadn't arrived" just white sliced for toast
The Wi-Fi wasn't great. Kept going down. Didn't matter so much as I wasn't there very long really.
Fabulous croissants and really friendly staff Wireless didn't work but seemed to be a temporary problem
The hotel was perfect for me since it was in walking distance to everything. I had to make a desicion between sharing a bathroom and being close to the city centre for the money I wanted to spend. I made the right choice. I never saw anyone using the bathroom at the time I needed it. Breakfast was perfect for me with fresh croissants, home made jams and fresh fruit. The room and the bed were comforatble. But best of all the free Internet was strong and allways available. Some budget hotels provide free Internet, but it doesn't always work. Maybe next time I ask for a room to the back. Friday night was noisy outside my window. But for a good sleeper not much of a problem.
Good breakfast, good location, friendly staff (when presernt but not always present, however, the independent entry system is clear). Bathroom clean, bedroom fine (but rug on bed had seen better days). No staff on site after a fairly early specified time (but independent entry system did work well. But it was a bit of a pain to have to sort entry out as I was so busy with appointments). Not especially warm in my room (but tolerable). Rug on bed rather worn and needs to be replaced.
the breakfast table was set out nicley and there was an appetising selection of fresh foods for breakfast. the bed has a mattress topper which made it much nicer thatn the beds of other hotels The toilet that i shared with 2 other rooms was very small and shower tiny. also the doors were very difficult to close quietly so quite noisy at night if anyone left their room. Also the smoke alarm was set off by guests eating toast and it too a while to rouse the number on the fire charts and luckily one of the guests worked out how to turn off the alarm- all a bit too exciting for 1.30 and difficult to fall asleep after.
Location of hotel. Clear instructions by e-mail on check-in procedure. Able to leave luggage before check-in and after check-out. Very good continental breakfast. Room was not en suite (although I knew this in advance). Noisy bin lorries woke me rather early.
The location was fine. I did not like the room I was given, up in the attic, very small, cramped. The en-suite facilities were very poor indeed. I did not feel safe due to the stairs, due to my age. I thought the room allocation was thoughtless. I also did not appreciate being pressured to pay up front before I had seen the room. I found the front desk people very arrogant.
Location was fairly central and staff were helpful Heating in the room was not working. The shower was broken too.
Small room but clean & warm and in a great location near the centre of Cambridge.
The furniture in my room seemed somewhat improvised.
handy to the city and transport. very over crowded dining room, booked deluxe queen suite to find 2 'camp' type beds one with a broken leg could not sit on or as we did fall off. That was very disappointing and right on the road. Would have thought with so many rooms a deluxe room would have been better.
Clean, nice services. Quite expensive
The staff was helpful Dust
firendliness/helpfulness of staff room was poorly maintained
Breakfast contents fine, breakfast room inadequate.w we cannot comment as it would be seen as a complaint!
Not the most comfortable or stylish hotel in the world - but that's not why we chose it. A good location close to the town centre and train station for a good price, this hotel does exactly what it says on the tin. The staff are helpful, the rooms reasonable and breakfast filling, if you are looking for a no-thrills place stay in central Cambridge (25 minute walk to the main colleges) then you could do far worse than this.
in the city centre too expensive
View of Parker's Piece from the 2nd floor, large rooms, excellent location LCD TV was small, just basic channels but also included French, German and Italian channels
Very comfortable accommodation and the hotel was conveniently located Breakfast was a bit boring!
Excellent hotel, with everything you could need. A good base for exploring (or working in) Cambridge. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the place is clearly very well-maintained. Our room was a good size, with fabulous thick towels! Nice and straightforward continental breakfast in the morning, while the bar proved a welcome quiet refuge in the late evening.
The staff were very helpful and the location was good.
Excellent location - city centre-ish. Extremely friendly staff especially House keeping and reception. Very contemporary, clean and cosy small double room as lovely - I wanted to stay longer! Breakfast nice too. Gorgeous view of park from Dining room and free internet usage via a guest PC in foyer.
clean, cosy room in style, looking at a large park. the lack of parking facilities should be clearly marked. There was no chance to park (or even to stop) at the hotel. I had to park the car at the Queen Anne parking house, 10 min. walk in the rain with the luggage. the payment is in coins only at the payment automats.
The lobby with a nice window scenery of Parker's piece flush toilet
Comfortable, well-appointed room - fifteen-twenty minutes walk from train station and within walking distance of Cambridge's colleges and amenities. Good standards of cleanliness. Efficient check-in and check-out. Excellent continental breakfast.
Small, friendly, good standard of room and convenient location.
Location excellent, very central. When I asked via internet for late check out they obliged and also warned me of traffic noise so I could bring ear plugs. Needs a lick of paint and double glazing if you are to sleep properly (even with ear plugs!). Customer service was poor. Bar closed at 1125 even though it stated midnight and even getting a bottle of water was tricky. No remote for the tv. Tv channels mainly fuzzy. Staff sighed when I asked for help. Seemed annoyed. Tea order was wrong, food order slow. No-one spoke good English.
The staff was courteous, rooms were kept clean, the bed was comfortable and the location was very central. My stay was on a Saturday & Sunday evening when the dj & nightlife was active until after 3am (Saturday). Having a room above the bar overlooking the main street, be aware of the acoustics. The fire alarm (faulty?) also went off numerous times while there during the day. There was only one bathroom/shower available for the guests at the time (although very clean), however I believe there are plans to have another one completed soon.
The room was warm, the bed comfortable and there was plenty of hot water though the bathrooms weren't en suite.Breakfast was served until 11 am.The position in the town for facilities is excellent. The staff did not speak good English.Ordinary tea ordered on arrival came as green tea and the waiter did not understand the difference. The tv had no remote and there were only 2 channels that were clear without interference. There was no clock or radio and only one small lamp making reading impossible.Because its on the main road and does not have double glazing one is constantly being disturbed making sleep difficult. The breakfast was cold which was a shame because the sausage mushroom and tomato were cooked well. There was no menu so you had to guess what the choices were or what full english or continental offered. The white toast and butter cam on the same plate as the cooked breakfast and there was no marmalade ,honey or any other conserve on offer. At 10.15 ish in the middle of my breakfast and on a cold November morning the french windows at the front were opened to allow delivery of the Greene King products, barrels of beer etc. It was absolutely freezing making a leisurely breakfast impossible The place was supposed to remain open until12am but at eleven thirty the staff had cashed up and buying a drink or getting a cup of tea was impossible. I was really glad I was only staying one night.
Great value, central location and top brekkie. Good coureous staff. No separate entry for late return. Noisy bar but that didn't bother us on this occasion.
Location Shared bathrooms
Great location to City centre Whilst clean etc the experience is very basic.
Room small, clean but basic. Shared Bathroom recently refurbished. Within easy walking distance of the central colleges - no worry about drink driving, taxis etc. Didn't get back to room until 0600, slept in until 1015. Came down at about 1045 to leave and was asked whether we wanted breakfast (included) - had assumed it would have finished much earlier, but being restaurant as well, was available until 1130, so pleasant surprise, including an excellent cappuccino style coffee, which I badly needed! Polite helpful cheerful European staff more than made up for any lack of more than basic facilities. No en-suite rooms and only one shared serviceable bathroom, however a second was being fitted out - a bit of a problem with a number of others probably preparing for the same night out, however in the event it wasn't a big issue at least not for us. We found it without too much difficulty, through good luck rather than good navigation (I had printed out a map) having negotiated the oneway system and roadworks. Parking in Cambridge always a potential nightmare and no hotel parking. We knew this and planned for it. Others had probably discounted this place for that reason, however in the event their loss was our gain. Unloaded in loading bay a hundred yards past hotel and then I went and parked the car about 20 minutes picturesque walk away on a residential street to west of the river for free. Didn't fancy paying ncp overnight rates! Absence of decent convenient mirrors in rooms a bit of a nuisance. I was a bit nervous about fire escape, as the place is a bit of a warren and one section of staircase was completely blocked by decorating equipment, albeit it did not appear to be part of the fire escape route. Plenty of signage, but did not appear to be illuminated, don't know whether this is required. In the event our room was quite close to an escape out onto the roof, so I was re-assured.
The food was lovely, the staff friendly and the rooms were comfortable, well situated in Cambridge. If you want to get any sleep on at Saturday, not for you, whole building vibrates with music till 3am, students on the street till 4am, road cleaners start at 5.30am, ear plugs didn't help.
good atmosphere and entertainment in bar staff were general cheerful and helpful breakfast was of reeasonable quality shared bathroom
