Fantastic helpful staff-great servicePros: The staff in the Belfast Cromac Street branch were just great-I hire cars a lot and they went out of their way to help me.

Best in BelfstPros: Pickup and drop off were a breeze. They even drove us back to the hotel after drop off. The car was clean and ran great. Did some extensive driving and never had a problem.Cons: A litlte bit of a hard sell for the additional insurance which I did not need.
Solid choice- great customer servicePros: Hertz rental in UK (I’m from USA) was reasonably convenient- I accidentally booked from wrong Airport. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to pick up at the other airport- though they tried! They helpfully delayed pickup. I should have investigated insurance more thoroughly so that added unexpected costs. Still a good cake given unlimited mileage!Cons: Car was very basic model and smelt vaguely musty. Again insurance charges were unexpected expense. (2x estimated).

Pros: Nothing.Cons: No vehicle and poor customer service. Cancelled booking at desk.
Pros: All round great experience, helpful and chatty staff at drop off.Cons: Lucky wasn’t raining but the covered walkway is being worked on now

Excellent but slow pick upPros: Car, cleanliness, ease of process. Overall car hire as it should be - no excess hard sell, just here’s your car and off you go. Return even simpler.Cons: Delay in picking up due to 1 person only dealing with all Budget and Avis rentals. Not his fault - he was very efficient and friendly but policy decision to employ only 1 person to cover all pickups for 2 companies.

ABSOLUTE JOKE - do not use.Pros: Car itself was new.Cons: 1. The car was supposed to be Full of fuel - it was empty and i was left stranded in the country with no phone service or open fuel stations (pickup late at night) 2. Nobody will answer the phone 3. Upon complaining i was told to just ring head office...

Pros: Good value for money. Nice car to drive (SEAT Ibiza) Helpful staff at pick up compound.Cons: Waiting 20 mins at pick up desk. Salespersons attitude to my having own excess insurance cover. Paying £23 extra for taking car to Republic of Ireland. Windscreen washer bottle almost empty.
Pros: Super friendly staff!Cons: They texted the wrong number or the phone lines were down so I couldn’t get ahold of them. Navigating back to their shop was a bit tough for someone like me unfamiliar with the area so that was stressful.

Feel ripped offCons: Extra unexpected $20 “foreign fee” not included in my original quote but i was forced to agree to it at pick up. Used tampon under driver seat. Impossible to pull seat far enough up for comfort. Employees unable to give a map or simple directions in Belfast. Hard sell on the extra insurance. No thanks.

Nice Car, Some ChallengesPros: The car was great and the staff was wonderful. They were kind and helpful.Cons: The location is off site from the airport (Belfast City) and you have to call for pick up (which is a challenge when traveling abroad!). Additionally, there was a £20 charge for traveling to the Republic of Ireland that was not very clear I would be charged when I booked.

They didn't give us a carPros: Staff was polite but overall experience wasn't goodCons: We were refused and our reservation was cancelled because the insurance company didn't want to give us allowance due to lack of experience of driving in UK. We didn't want to take any insurance at all but that how the cancellation was explained.

Need to improve on the communication about pick-up site.Pros: Great car! Friendly staff.Cons: It was more expensive than I hoped, and the pick-up location was not very convenient to the Belfast airport. It took some minutes ) to call the company (which is costly for international calling...was on hold a bit), find out how/where to get the shuttle to the off-site pick-up location, and get the car. I realize this makes the rental a bit cheaper, but some better communication, maybe...

Cons: No signage in or out of the Belfast airport as to the location of their office. Finally had to walk to a hotel out of airport to get directions. When I returned the car, was told the (plastic) hubcaps were scratched, thus they would have to charge me $135.00 extra. This was in addition to the insurance I was forced to buy when renting. Had no time to argue as I was trying to catch a train. Very unhappy, feel like I was fleeced.

Cons: SIXT TRIED TO FORCE INVALID INSURANCE. I rent cars regularly with the same credit card. The card is usually swiped and I'm signing (even with Sixt in other countries). I forgot the PIN as I always use signature. Sixt at BFS refused the card telling as it has a chip a PIN must be provided. I suggested a couple of ways how to get around their problem, but they insisted to follow a their idea: pay for an expensive insurance. I showed them my existing 3rd party excess reduction insurance. They forced the idea that I should buy their insurance for the same even after understanding that a 2nd insurance for the same purpose would be invalid. I walked out and rented at a nearby other company. I suggest to avoid them.
Escape the congested public transportation system and pricey taxi fares in Belfast by renting a car, which is also the best option for getting to know this city. A car works wonders for travelers looking to explore some of Northern Ireland's most scenic routes and iconic destinations, including Dunluce Castle, UNESCO World Heritage site Giant's Causeway, and Castle Ward, which is the filming location of Winterfell in Game of Thrones.
All the big car rental agencies can be found at Belfast International Airport (BFS), which is only 18 miles northwest of the city center. All the car rental desks are located in the domestic arrivals hall, which is on the lower floor of the airport's passenger terminal. The smaller George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD) is only 3 miles from the city center, and its car rental counters can be found in the Arrivals Hall.
The main rule about driving in the United Kingdom is that traffic runs on the left-hand side of the road. As a small city, Belfast is relatively easy to drive around. If you cross the border into the Republic of Ireland, remember currency changes from the pound to the euro, and kilometers will be used instead of miles.
Belfast roads can experience quite a bit of traffic congestion, so you may want to avoid driving during morning rush hour (especially if you're driving into the city), between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m., and also during the evening rush hour, from 4 to 7 p.m. (if you're driving out of the city). The M2/Nelson Street/York Link junction tends to be the most congested road, but traffic also builds up on the A1/M1 in the morning and before junction 3 on the M1 in the evening. Roads in Northern Ireland are toll-free.
