KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Boise
Discover everything Idaho’s capital has to offer with your own four wheels by renting a car upon your arrival in Boise. Nature lovers will get to visit the National Wildlife Refuge or the National Conservatory, which are 40 and 50 minutes away, respectively. With a rental car, you won’t have to stress about public transport schedules or squeezing onto an overflowing bus; instead, you can explore everything on your own time and pace.
The easiest way to start your time in Boise is by picking up a car when landing at Boise Airport, which is about 4 miles from the city center. All of the agencies (including Avis, Hertz, or Budget) are located on the first floor. The parking garage with the rental cars is just outside the baggage claim area. When driving out of the airport, follow the S Vista Avenue, which is the most direct route to Boise’s center.
Generally, Boise is very similar to most American cities when it comes to traffic and driving regulations. Boise drivers have a reputation for driving slower in the left lane than the right and for turning right on a red light when the intersection is free -- which is not something that visitors should mimic. Drive defensively, especially when entering an intersection, to avoid accidents.
Winters in Boise can bring snow and ice, and adapting your speed is very important to avoid skidding. When driving in Boise during the winter months, ensure the rental car is properly equipped and has snow chains in the trunk for when there is snow on the road (especially important when venturing out of the city). Speed must be adjusted and sudden braking or accelerating should be avoided as well. Also bear in mind that, due to plowing, the streets can be narrower after a snow.
Boise is one of the most charming cities in America. The city boasts an exquisitely glorious ton of green space and an incredible admixture of historical relevance. If you want to explore the full beauty of this city, renting a car in Boise is imperative. A rental car gives you the versatility to drive to a nearby city or attractions on the outskirts of Boise. To ensure you have the most out of Boise, you can sign up for a car rental company loyalty rewards program. It helps you to gain points to utilize towards perks. There are no additional charges for joining the program. Before embarking on your plane, check with your airline for reward programs that entail discounts at car rental companies.
There are numerous car rental companies in Boise. Some popular and reliable companies include Hertz, National, Enterprise, Alamo, and Avis. For you to get the best-priced rental car, it is crucial to reserve in advance. However, since these major rental car brands have different deals, ensure thorough research to get the best deals. Avoid using the car rental locations inside the airport since their charges include a kiosk fee. When heading to an offsite location, contemplate boarding a taxi from the airport. Taxes charges depend on your rental car pick-up point and not on your drop-off.
If you are a foreigner in Boise, ensure you have your passport and an international driving permit issued by the officials in your home country. Also, no car rental company will issue you with their car without a valid driver’s license. You will be allowed to drive with a legit driver’s license. However, your foreign driving license will be revoked if your stay exceeds one year. Although the state of Idaho allows people aged 15 years and above to drive a car, few Boise car rental suppliers will issue their cars to individuals below 21 years old.

Minivan
When I went to go pick up the seven seat van they didn’t have it. All they could offer me is a six seat Jeep. As I was driving it, I noticed how dirty it was. There was white sticky in the center console. I got about two miles away and the windshield wiper fluid light came on. I filled it up and the next day on the road the light came on again. It also would only spray out the passenger side. The man helping me at Enterprise was nice and did his best to help me when I picked up the car but it was a pretty bum deal overall.
