Pros:

Deliv ring from ship to car rental place

Cons:

Only one worker and she was so swamped that drop off was long wait until she said just leave key and she would do it and stay after hours to check us in. It was no her fault. She did ev rethink as fast and quick just 6 people checking in cars and getting back to ship was a nightmare for her. Company should provide more workers the few days cruise ship is in port.

Cons:

The car pick-up took over an hour and I was the first person in the door at 9 AM. The woman at the counter offered to add the E-ZPass Unlimited option to my rental but she couldn't figure out how to actually add it to my reservation. She had to run and cancel charges to my credit card about three times. She was never able to add the E-ZPass Unlimited option, even after about 45 minutes. Then, she got my car and, as I was about to drive, I realized the seatbelt was broken. I had to go inside and get another car. The woman was unapologetic about the delay in my trip. I also called Avis to make them aware of my experience. The person who answered the phone said she was putting me on hold and then just hung up on me and I never received a call back. Overall, a really bad customer experience with Avis and I will not rent from Avis again.

The KIA Optima was the perfect size. Room for two weeks worth of luggage in the back and a smooth ride for us. All under $120 in total gas cost.

Pros:

We liked the Hyundai, the gas mileage was amazing and it was comfortable. The car was ready (?) for pickup when we got there.

Cons:

The windshield was dangerously dirty with smeared film on the inside glass that made it difficult with the afternoon sun and we had nothing to clean it with in the mountains.

Pros:

! was happy to get a Ford Fusion instead of a Chevy Malibu. The Fusion was very comfortable and clean, handled well, and was great for driving around to see the sights. I had to be winched out of a ditch; I called my insurance company for Emergency Road Service. The coordination between GEICO and AVIS was handled very quickly. I scraped a rear door at a gas station - the AVIS agent very efficiently noted the damage and helped get me and my luggage to the terminal (I'm disabled) in plenty of time to stand in the TSA line.

Cons:

Nothing - the web-reservation app, the car, and the AVIS folks were outstanding.

We can’t thank the Budget agent, Kathy, at the Owls Head location. We were really in a jam due to the shortage of rental cars in the area, and Kathy was able to procure us a last minute rental. She really saved us a ton of aggravation! Thank you!!

Cons:

When we picked the car up, it had no washer fluid in it at all. The weather was snowy and there was dirt from the roads, making the car dangerous to operate until we were able to find a gas station to fill it up on our own (it took the entire gallon of washer fluid; tank was bone dry when we got the car).

Positives- They answered the phone and were willing to talk to me the next day when I called to complain. They weren't willing to help me in any way, but they were willing to talk and explain the situation.

Cons:

Negatives- It's a long story, but the one sentence summary is I never even got to rent my car and had to take a $100 cab to Camden. I would not recommend using Hertz. I was scheduled to arrive just after 6 on a Cape Air flight. I indicated in the reservation that I'd be there at 6, because I've never before encountered a situation where it was crucially important to be right on the nose in that department. However, I also didn't include my flight info in the reservation. That part is my fault and apparently if I had done that, this could have been avoided. Still, I'm pissed about how everything transpired. The flight was late and landed at 7. I get off the plane and immediately see that the Hertz desk is closed. I check online and see that they close at 6. That's a problem. I check with the Cape Air desk--they say that a different Cape Air employee probably has the keys. When there's an after-hours pickup, that's how it's handled. Great. I check with that person--nope, sorry, no keys were left with her today. Oof. I try calling Hertz's national 1-800 number to get help. That's 10 minutes I'd rather have spent doing anything else. Totally worthless. I leave an angry note on the Hertz desk asking them to call me the next day and get a cab. (As an aside, Cape Air helped me get that cab, and they were really helpful about it. I really appreciated that.) It cost $100 to get to my destination, Camden, plus I no longer had a car to use to get around Camden during my stay. I didn't get a call from Hertz in the morning, of course, so I waited until the afternoon and called them. They did acknowledge they saw the note and apologized for not calling back. They said that because I didn't include my flight info (my fault, I acknowledge) in the reservation and had scheduled it for a time when they were open, they didn't leave the keys with the Cape Air people because they "thought it was an in-town reservation." First of all, how many reservations from non-Cape Air passengers do they get? I doubt it's very many. More importantly though, I had said I'd be there at 6 in the reservation, and they close at 6. They said if I had indicated I'd be there at 7, the reservation would have told me they'd be closed and would have required me to input flight info. That makes sense, but why doesn't the reservation require that if you say you'll be there literally at the minute they close? That's more of a Hertz corporate complaint than a complaint about this location, but still. What a dumb system. The reservation didn't even have the location's hours on it. How hard would it have been for them to print a contract and leave the keys with Cape Air, assuming I'd be on that late flight? Probably not very hard, and if I had no-showed (which could happen whether I'm an in-town rental or I'm on Cape Air and missed my flight), I'm sure they could have just canceled the contract. Instead they did nothing, and I was left holding the bag.

Pros:

I saw the manager (I think his name was Andy) run to get every car so the customers didn't have to wait which really surprised and impressed me. that meant my total wait time to get the rental car was minimum. They drive me to where I needed to go without complaint and I just felt like a well taken care of customer with the staff.

Cons:

Nothing. I've been to Hertz before in CA that didn't fill the tank up all the way which was annoying to try to match but I was happy and relieved that the tank was totally full when I picked the car up in Augusta.

Do not, I repeat, do not fly into Augusta State Airport or ever rent a car from Hertz there. Fly into Bangor and rent a car there. When I booked my Hertz car, they stated they were open 9am-Noon on Saturdays. I called them and confirmed this. I returned at 11am today, 9/18, for my 2pm flight to Boston to discover that they were now closed and I would be charged two more rental days when they reopen on Monday. Don't get ripped off like I did. Avoid this airport and Hertz especially.
