Pros: The car was good.
Cons: The pick up was terrible. The agent was not nice. She spoke very fast and in distinctly, and was not helpful. Used long, long time on the customer before us. Despite I showed her we had prepaid insurance, she tried to sell me complete insurance.
Delivery also negative, as the computer system was down.

Pick up was long and bad
Cons: We were asked if we wanted GPS. We said no, but were charged anyway. The assistant was very insistent we get insurance, which she quoted over $60 for (it was around $30 at Alamo). Charges piled up and at no time were we shown what we would be charged for or how much.

Avoid a Ford Focus
Pros: Car was very clean.
Cons: Lines at counter were twice as long as other rental companies. Service was very slow. Ford Focus was terrible! It barely moved and shook when shifting gears (it was automatic transmission!)
There was also a delay when leaving the garage as they had to check my license and paperwork even though I presented it when at the rental counter. There was also no one available when I returned the car to take the paperwork and check fuel levels, etc. I probably won't be renting with Dollar

Pros: The car was clean, in good condition and comfortable. Easily held the five adults.
The price was substantially lower than what I was seeing on other sites or from the rental car companies themselves.
Cons: Actually getting the vehicle was disconcerting. I spoke with somebody via a video link but it was hard to understand and was just told to go out to the garage and pick out any full sized vehicle I wanted. The first vehicle I got into had no keys but I scored on the second one. The Charlotte a/p garage is all torn which was the main issue. From there, it was smooth sailing

Problem with the Kayak/Dollar interface
Pros: Once we survived the reservation problems at the Dollar counter, the rest of the relationship was fine.
Cons: The clerk at the Dollar counter didn't recognize the Kayak reservation, and cautioned us to check with the car company to confirm any reservation. She finally relented, however, and gave us the car at the price quoted on our reservation, which we made with Dollar, through Kayak.

Charlotte airport ranks in top three for easy rent
Pros: 1. Charlotte airport new rental car dropoff is well marked by signs as we entered the airport grounds.
2. Dropoff garage is covered, out of rain and sun's heat
3. Dollar personnel responded immediately when we pulled up
4. Electronic check in is efficient and fast
Cons: Lack of cars and the upgrade had damage to the rear light and was extremely basic model. Very long wait for car due to none ready to take when I got there.

Told not to rent from Kayak online or other on-line travel agency or any rental issues must be handled by those travel agencies.
First told the price would double because they wouldn't honor Kayak reservation at the airport in Charlotte.
Then told no car was ready for rental when we arrived at the off-site location - wait another 45 -60 minutes to pick up another car or to upgrade

Pros: Dealing with Hertz was a great experience. I had to extend my rental due to a family emergency and they were absolutely accommodating. Pickup and drop was exceptionally easy
Cons: The car got horrible gas mileage. Between NC and Pa, I had to fill up 3 times just to get to PA. In previous rental cars, I could make it on tank of gas. Very surprised this car was so horrible with gas. I would not rent another Rav 4 again. Outside of the gas issue, the car was great.

Pros: Reservation was easy to make. Staff was great in getting us our car quickly once we got to the location and very friendly! Overall a great experience with this Hertz location
Cons: Unprofessional action in general, and a 2hr wait altogether. Car smelled like sweat but ran well. I also witnessed the clerk acting really bitchy at a customer over the phone and finally hanging the phone up in their ear and badmouthing them to me afterwards. Awkward to say the least. All in all a very unprofessional operation.

Worst rental car experience EVER
Cons: Car #1 flooded from the inside when it rained. Car #2 (the "replacement") had a busted taillight and the tire kept going flat.
Car #1: The first car they gave me had an overwhelming, absolutely unbearable air freshener smell that they tried to "air out" by opening the windows when they pulled up the car for me to take. It turns out, the air freshener smell was a result of the rental company trying to cover up the smell of musty, sitting water, because the car had a leak in the hood/windshield somewhere, which caused the car to flood on from the inside when it rained. Go figure, it poured for two days while I rented it, and not only did that destroy some of my personal belongings, I had to drive to work with about an inch of water sloshing around the floor while I waited for them to get me a replacement car.
Car #2: (the "replacement") It took the better part of the day for the rental company to replace my car. They failed to give me sufficient paperwork to prove the exchange (and then they almost tried to pretend like they didn't know what car I had). This car was all scraped up on the driver's side, had a busted left tail light, and the front driver's side tire went low 3 times in 2 days.
When I returned the car, I asked for a partial refund, but the "manager" claimed my AAA discount covered my "concerns."
Inconvenient location (10 minutes from the airport). Terrible customer service. Spare yourself the hassle.

Cons: Had a reservation. Showed up. Was told they had no cars. They only kept 1 car available for a person that paid ahead, not for anyone with reservations. It would be good to know that when you make the reservation in the first place, or better yet, don't allow reservations because they don't do ANYTHING FOR ANYONE! Never again.....

Pros: I booked online and saved literally hundreds of dollars compared to what I was quoted from other agencies. The price was so cheap I thought there must be some sort of catch, but there wasn't. I got a great, comfortable car at an awesome price. I couldn't be happier.

Pros: I picked the cheapest vehicle I could find for my trip and that was Payless, in my case.
Cons: Checking-in took forever, because only one person was working. Checking-out was not terrible, but it also took longer than I am used to with other car rentals.

Pros: No drop few for one way was why I picked Payless - great deal.
Cons: Pickup had a long line in Charlotte at a hote near the airport - it was hot in the small office and it took over 45 minutes to check me in with 2 reps checking in and out and washing cars and answering phones - they were troopers but what a mess.
Cons: Language on the web indicated I could take a shuttle to the counter when in fact I needed to go off site. The onsite people were gracious and took care of me.

Good service, not that far from the airport
Pros: The service at the pickup was very good. We didn't have to wait long and they were quick in getting us set up with a car.
Cons: The car was ok, but came with almost no fuel so I had to fill it up right away. Not a big deal, but would be nice to have to that right away. The car was in pretty good condition, but the breaks were a bit rough and the car smelled a little like smoke.

All the way across town? How would one get there?. The Enterprise counter lady said that she gets this 6-8 times a day. Why can't you folks have a listing that is specific to the ariports. Cons: At check out I was told to pick any car in the row and go but there was only one car left to choose... fine. So I got in and it was filthy compared to what I expected it to look like. The dash was completely covered in dust and so was the radio panel. The seats had crumbs and dirt on them. This was very unsatisfactory as I can assume you didn't even sanitize the steering wheel. I had a pregnant wife in the car and we are just coming out of flu season. I can only imagine the germs you left behind by not cleaning the vehicle before you rented it to me. I will recommend to anyone that they do not rent the dirty cars from Alamo.

Pros: Gas mileage was excellent for the Kia Sportage. Comfortable ride. Service desk personnel very helpful.
Cons: The back seating area floor had not been vacuumed. As large of a city that Charlotte is, it is sad that the only location is the airport! I needed to add my daughter as a driver, but she lives in Lancaster SC. Having a location to do this somewhere in Charlotte other than the airport would have been nice. The cost was super expensive.

The transmission wasn't quite right; when the accelerator was pressed hard, the car would downshift and then hunt for gears which made highway driving difficult.

Pros: The rental facility is directly across from the terminals so there is no need to wait for a shuttle. The staff was friendly and the process was relatively painless. I will definitely rent from Alamo in the future.

Did not honor reservation
Cons: When we arrived at the airport with three small, tired children, Alamo did not honor the reservation we booked through Kayak.com. They said it was kayak's issue and not an Alamo problem so there was nothing they could do to help us. We were stranded at the airport rental car center, with no reservation and all rental agencies out of cars but one....which took a few hours to get through the line and actually rent a car. When we did get a car we had to pay more than double what we had thought we booked through kayak. All in all it was a bad experience, costing us money.

Pros: I was most impressed by the pick up and drop off procedure; it was the quickest, most efficient pick up and drop off I think I've ever experienced with a car rental. Cons: When we arrived the line was super long. They had no cars. They had overbooked reservations and several people waited hours to get a car. We ended up waiting about 2 hours before we got through the line and got a vehicle. Very poor service at the desk. The lady barely spoke to us, did not explain anything and just told us to sign here, and sign here. Will not use budget again.

Cons: Since I got the rental to drive last minute to see my mom who was just diagnosed with cancer, I didn't take the time to read all of the consumer reports reviews on Advantage. Not only was the pickup process terrible, they over charged me by $200 on my rental when I got by bill. After calling and emailing Advantage repeatedly, they still haven't responded about this. I checked consumer reports and the experience just like many others. Kayak should shoulder some responsibility for having a partnership with such a low life company. If I don't receive retribution for the overcharge I will take legal action on both Kayak and Advantage even if it costs 50 times the overcharge amount. No one should go through what I have.

Pros: I guess the price was decent.
Cons: Customer service was very aloof at both pick up (Charlotte airport) and drop off (Raleigh Durham airport). I joked with a friend that they stopped just short of throwing me the keys in the parking lot, but seriously, there was very little explanation of policies, etc. I know renting a car is mostly the same, and im not saying i need an explanation of every little thing, but the staff was not communicative to me, and talked more to each other and I felt like i was an unwelcome distraction for them.
I reserved an SUV and was given a compact-- I had to remind them of my reservation.
Car wasn't clean. Smudges on the steering wheel and a piece of food on the turn signal. Also, no clicker for the car, kind of annoying. Tire tread was questionable (40K miles on the car, and they probably hadnt been changed) which brought to mind safety concerns, especially driving in the rain (which I did a lot of for my whole three days).

Cons: Thrifty failed to update their company hours on Google meaning that they closed a full two hours before advertised. We were subsequently stuck with the car for an extra day. Absolutely farcical for a car rental company, especially one based beside a god damn airport.

Pros: Car was ready when promised.
Cons: At pick up, staff was curt. No explanation of the tolling feature, which became an issue. When I got to where car, it still had a bunch of bugs on it, giving the impression it had just been returned and. It prepped. I didn't notice u till after leaving the lot (as I tried to find the overhead lights and then the headlights) that the car was giving a low tire pressure warning and that the tank was not full. The needle was below the F, and a full tank, as I saw later, goes beyond the F. It was late, the staff wasn't overly helpful or friendly, and I did not go back. I just topped off the air the next morning as all 4 tires were low, more than 10 psi below recommendation.
The car worked fine on the first leg of the trip. On the second leg, after paying 2 tolls in cash, the tool booth collector told us it had already been charged to EZ Pass. Now, we read the instructions on the toll feature in the. At and made sure he door was closed, which allegedly would keep the tools from being charged. Yet every toll booth still charged EZ Pass. As the info in the. At said this would only happen if we opened the toll transponder's door, I was not happy.
The worst, however, was the tires. As I was filling the car with fuel right before turning it in, the rear right tire went flat. Fortuntely there was an air pump right there. I managed to get air in the tire and return it to Avis without having to call for help and miss my flight, but it was a close thing.
All in all, I expected much more from Avis. I always thought of them as a step above the Budgets and Alamos, but after this trip, I don't do so any more.

Pros: The Ford Focus I rented performed exceptionally well. I had 11 hours to go 700 miles to get the car back in time and without the power and performance, driving the interstate and dealing with bad drivers and road construction that took me miles out of my way, I would have not got the car back in time. I drove from Tellico Plains, TN to Muskegon, MI in 10 hours and 15 minutes. 703 miles.
