Free internet, breakfast, and access to a local gym are great. My non-smoking room smelled like smoke and irritated my allergies.
Newly renovated Exterior could use work
Full kitchen was nice if we needed to stay longer. Apartments converted into hotel. Pool was clean. Hot tub was just warm, mold on ceiling, bad urine smell in room, no sheets or blankets or pillows for the pull out bed.
For the money, you can't get a better room, with as much space. The bath area is really private, set in the back of the room, not by the front door as per usual. Everything seemed faily clean. THe bed was not the newest but was comfortable. The common area for breakfast was very nice and attractive. WE didn't use the pool. In general the place is not being maintained. The entrance to our room was unsightly and falling apart. A bit scary actually. There is no attempt at landscaping anything. The bathroom floor was coming up where the shower water had seeped underneath. There was a spider on one of the pillows when we were getting ready for bed.
We really like the location and it really fits our shopping needs in the Des Moines, IA area. We stay at this location several times each year, actually every time we stay overnight in the Des Moines area. We were very disappointed with the aging condition of our room and the lack of upkeep of the property. Not only do we enjoyed staying at this location, but also at other Midwest USA locations. We were really shocked at the condition of our room!!!
It was easy to get to. You get what you pay for and I don't think I paid for house keeping because it was non existent. The toilet was stained brown, the bottom of the tub was dirty (I took a shower wearing flip flops), the floors were sticky, and the bed had a dip in the center. I had to stay here for 5 days and I would come back at the end of the work day with hair all over the bath counter, in the soap dish and in the tub. I was so grossed out that I bought my own cleaner with bleach and cleaned the room myself. It was the kind of place that I didn't want to tell the front desk because who knew what they would do to my things while I was gone. Can't say I took advantage of the breakfast that was included because if the room was any indication of what was coming out of the kitchen, I wasn't taking any chances. One good thing is that it is freeway close.... And you know that because you can hear it through the walls. Sorry, but if my company trys to puts me up there again, I'll pass and get a room somewhere else on my own dime. There are plenty other options in the area.
We had a leak in the kitchen area and the bath tub could use some work
Large space, friendly staff and good breakfast Road noise
The rooms were setup very nice and cozy . The staff was more than happy to help us with anything we needed and very friendly When we walked in the room and it had been cleaned but the trash had not been removed. They were quick about fixing the situation. The rooms could use some up keep
It was very clean and friendly Housekeeping woke up my son and my aunt even though we had no service on the door.
I really like the layout. The separate buildings gave it mountain resort feel, which I appreciated.
Nice lobby friendly Breakfast just ok. Hard to find
The website and a call to the motel in advance both stated that a crib would be available for our one year old. We were less than pleased when we arrived to find that what they meant was not actually a crib, but a pack n play. In my book, these two things are NOT equivalent. My daughter is an awesome sleeper but not accustomed to sleeping in a pack n play. If I had been told this when I called ahead earlier in the week, I would have brought ours from home, which would have been more comfortable for her. Other than this, the room and facilities were perfectly adaquate. This was our first family vacation, so having her not want to sleep until she basically passed out at 11 each night was not great for us to be able to enjoy the following day.
Nice clean room. Big enough for two. Grandchildren came and spent the night with is Dogs barking in hall
The room was spacious and clean. It was also very quiet.
Great location, and excellent customer service. Heat worked well, and loved the free Wi-Fi.
Location Non smoking room that smelled like the ashtray was emptied just before we arrived.
I didn't like the fact that I couldn't cancel one night since my husband got out of the hospital a day early. This is because I got it through kayak through orbitz. I will go directly through the hotel next time I need to stay.
bed was comfortable. room was clean. decent location for shopping at jordan creek mall. the price compared to the quality of the hotel is not appropriate. i have stayed at much nicer hotels for quite a bit less money. Pictures make this hotel look great, but it is only decent. Wifi was awful, had to use cellular data instead. Biggest problem was we checked in around 5:30, then left for dinner and shopping. when returning around 9:30 we attempted to access our room but our key would not work. we went to the front desk and they informed us they had put us in the wrong room when we checked in, and they had moved our stuff. Extremely disappointing they did not call to notify us or let us know when we walked past the front desk upon our return. quite embarrassing to try to access a room that other people were occupying. there are 2 other hotels right next to this one, i suggest saving some money and frustration and staying at one of those instead.
Bery clean. Comfortable
The staff was very welcoming and friendly. There were quite of few strands of hair in the bed that did not belong my girlfriend or myself.
Rooms were nice. Balcony was nice touch. No continental breakfast
Nice lobby, facilities , cafe. Price would have been better had I booked it directly myself.
Close to the interstate, but not too close. Close to shopping, food and entertainment.
Hotel room was very clean. Bed was comfortable. Desk staff was friendly and accommodating. Loved the Starbucks in the lobby! Nothing
Location was convenient and staff was friendly The room wasn't clean. This wasn't the room cleaners fault. Rather the room just seems to be in disrepair. The walls were stained up. There appeared to be black mold on the ceiling a and by the door. The carpet was worn and felt greasy. The blankets had holes in them and were stained. $70 seemed a bit much for a room the the owner is clearly not maintaining.
Desk staff was unhelpful
Location and friendly staff Old motel. AC was broken. No hot water at 6:30 am.
Nothing much to like. Unkept grounds. Dirty room. Towel bar fell off the wall. Decorating was awful. Very shady clientel. Not worth more than $20 at best.
It was my first visit to des moines and stayed at days inn for a night. The place was good to stay.
Price Clientele and staff were sketchy
The location was good and the non-smoking rooms actually didnt smell of smoke at all. The air conditioner worked very well and was quiet. The TV also worked well and was nice. The shower was absolutely gross, and the bathroom sink would fill up with water almost immediately and took forever to drain. I checked for bedbugs, and there weren't any, but the mattress itself was pretty gross. Good thing there were a few layers of sheets on the bed that I could sleep on top of. The room itself had cracks in the drywall and water stains on the ceiling. The window didn't quite seal to the outside, so there was a lot of traffic noise and the air conditioner had to run almost constantly to keep up with the Iowa summer. The breakfast was almost nonexistent, only saved by the waffle maker.
The room was not clean. The mattress had bugs in them. I was extremely disgusted. The floor was wet all over the room and we did not know where it was coming from. The air conditioner had food stains and gunk on them.
Rooms seemed poorly maintained. I awoke to water dripping on my head at 1:30am
Location, shower Refrigerator freezer didn't work, toilet tank cover mismatch for tank (left open space on one end, room had musty odor and not well cleaned. Very small breakfast area for the number of customers. Bed blankets stuffed into dresser lower drawers (not folded, just wadded up and crammed into the drawers. Facility very old and worn (in need of renovation). Definitely will not stay there again.
It wasn't very obvious my bathroom hadn't Wen cleaned when I arrived.
Size of rooms Had three rooms. TV worked. In one room. Pool had tiles missing. Air conditioning broke in. One room had to move rooms middle of night
My stay was awesome I have a young son and the pool was clean and the room was nice and welcoming The staff at the rest. Was rude and we waited 20 minutes to sit down and then couldn't get more drinks and took 15 min. To get bill then was charged 8 dollars for my son to eat two bites of fruit the hotel was awesome but I'll never eat at the restaurant ever
Price was good.
very smooth check in/out, friendly staff, good breakfast (with one of those cool waffle makers), clean beds carpet felt dirty beyond deep cleaning and probably needs replaced, decor could use an update
Clean rooms, decent breakfast bar (plain but well stocked) Tricky exit off of I 80
everyone there was very friendly. many amenity. very clean I cant say anything bad. it was awesome
even though this is not a 4 star or a 5 star hotel the staff from day one went above and beyond to make me and my guest feel comfortable. on days that we really did not want to get going early in the morning it was nice to just lounge around there at the hotel and then in the afternoon go sightseeing. the front desk lady by the name of Lindsey was fantastic. she was awesome and really caring we actually became friends while I was staying there.
Big room. Clean and friendly staff Limited parking
Not fancy, but very clean and quiet with good amenities.
The room was clean. Breakfast included was very well done. Lots of great options offered and food was fresh. Not well updated. No ice machine in whole building. Existing ice machine has obviously been out service for weeks. There was actual dust. Room was not a good value.
It was a privilege to stay here. The staff was friendly abd nice, the room amazing. The hit breakfast was better then I expected. Overall awesome place.
Very clean, the pool was warm which was a plus. The guy in the breakfast area was a little over the top. He was a bit growley pushing people through like cattle.
Location to Airport, Cleanliness, staff was fantastic!!!!!!
Clean and comfortable. Every thing was good.
Front desk at check in was great. Manager was very helpful when I asked to change rooms due to construction noise. Construction noise. Service in the bar was truly awful. It was so bad I thought it might be a candid camera setup to see how customers reacted. The
Very comfortable and the environment was nice. Wifi didn't work in our room (325)
I keep staying here and it's like my home base in Des Moines
Friendly helpful staff ready to provide assistance and guidance. Found the location in close proximity to the the airport and interstate. Dining was not the best in the vicinity of the hotel (not the hotels fault) but found the hotel's restaurant especially the breakfast to be exceptional. The breakfast wait staff were among the best I've experienced at a hotel restaurant. The suites could use an upgrade/redecoration.
The hotel was beautiful and in a great location, my room also had a great view!
I just spent the one night, but everything was nice and clean. Also the view of the river was great. I would stay here again.
Everything about this hotel was fantastic! New construction and facilities made for a great stay. The staff was respectful and accommodating in every possible fashion. Thrilled to have been able to stay here and be so close to downtown Des Moines for the Des Moines marathon! If I come back to downtown Des Moines for a weekend getaway this will be where I stay.
New so spotless, but located close to train tracks. And the trains come through overnight. We were there in February, and our fourth-floor room was overly warm. Had to turn on A/C! Our double room was smallish, but had a great river view. Staff is best feature -- courteous, solicitous and friendly. I called later about an item we left behind. They located it and helped arrange to ship it back to us. I would stay again.
Beautiful rooms Fireplace Chef at breakfast to make omelette and waffles to order Great breakfast selection Parking garage across the street
Warm, European feel Cold fries with room service meal
location to downtown activities were great. Rude Manager that would not honor an email I received that confirmed a sleeper sofa. We were up charged for a roll a way bed. The staff was not knowledgeable about downtown events or directions.
Big rooms Break fast, parking
Mistakes in room service meal
Our stay was good and the room was clean, we would stay here again
Everything Nothing it was great hotel
Plenty of space in the room. It would be great for an extended stay. Great selections for breakfast both hot and cold items. Staff friendly and helpful. Parking was convenient. Potentially our new place to stay when in Des Moines area.m Heard some very muffled noise from hall or next room in the night but very minor.
Our room was really nice and clean! Bed was comfortable too. I would definitely stay at a Springhill Suites again! The bathroom needed some updating. While taking a shower the faucet continued to squeak and tub needed to be be replaced.
Clean rooms. Friendly staff.
Clean, easy to get to. Full breakfast with hot food including eggs. Our room was on the 3rd floor, it was a warm winter day. The window was fixed so it would not open at all and the AC unit would not cool the room well and the fan setting only recirculated the too warm air. It was too hot to sleep comfortably, but if you like it this way, enjoy!
The email for preferences was perfect!
Large, clean room Good people
it was a beautiful hotel, superior service, with very spacious rooms I wish it could be more affordable, I would definitely stay more often.
The room was so luxurious & the staff was amazing! The free breakfast was delicious! We loved staying at the Hyatt! Would definitely recommend & stay there again! The difficult parking, didn't find a spot & had to use valet
Friendly and helpful staff - both front desk and valet; helpful with directions and made a couple of good restaurant recommendations; Location convenient for an event my wife and I attended during our stay and the valet shuttle included at no additional cost was helpful. Nice breakfast offerings. While I got lucky with a dynamite parking spot in front of the hotel for the weekend and didn't need to move my car, the notion of valet parking for $15 per night was distasteful (I know it can be much more in major coastal cities). Sunday morning breakfast should not end at 10 a.m. - it should run at least until 11.
location was good, room was clean breakfast, as always at an Embassy, was excellent, especially great for kids. Valet parking at a very high (for the market price) was the only parking option. Room was warm and musty, didn't cool well.
I was on a business trip so the downtown location worked out well for me. No
The location - on the river (I love water), our room had a view of the river and the distance between the hotel and Nolan Plaza - our day destination - only three blocks from each other - also hotel was easy to find
Greater location, rooms, and friendly staff. The hotel bar and staff leave a lot to be desired!
Complimentary drinks, snacks and great breakfast!
As always...the breakfast! Forced valet that did not park vehicle in a covered garage but rather on a side street during a snow storm for a $25/night charge. I was told all about the city selling parking lot to private investor who is building a parking garage but that is not my problem. If you don't have acceptable parking options don't charge me a premium to park. Inadequate parking options just aren't acceptable and we'll look for another place to stay next time.
Great view, lovely space. Cost: clearly had upped their rates because the bar exam was being offered in their building.
not very friendly
Like most Embassy Suites, a very nice property, suites with plenty of room, great beds and bedding. Very disappointed in a $10 daily charge for Wi-fi - even for Hilton Honors members (except the two highest levels). Considering other quality downtown Des Moines hotels priced similarly, but with free Wi-fi access, this is typically a difference-maker for us. Also annoying, if you miss the complimentary breakfast (finishes at 9 AM), you are charged $3 per cup of coffee -- again, unlike other similarly priced downtown Des Moines hotels. Not a deal-breaker, but still seems kind of ridiculous.
Location was convenient. The hotel room furnishings and some of the common areas felt a bit dated. Water pressure in shower was poor.
It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
The air number beds were terrible. It was the most uncomfortable sleep experience i had in a hotel in years.
Location was good--close to Starbuck's and my relatives' homes. Rooms are spacious--killed 2 bugs, though! the freont desk staff did not recognize the confimation number I gave them and insisted I did not have a reservation! Only when the manager came forward, did he recognize that he had received the booking on his computer--apparently the front desk computers don't receive these bookings--I was fortunate to have the manager present!
Amazing bed and pillows. Linens were clean and soft. Restaurant was delicious- we ate dinner with drinks and breakfast buffet. The accessible shower bench was a bit flimsy, but worked. With our physical disability needs, the hotels definitely accommodated our needs.
Staff was very helpful with all our questions. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good. It seemed like a friendly place.
Base price ok The breakfast was expensive enough that I should have checked total cost of stay. The location was not very convenient
Nothing The first 2 rooms they put us in were not cleaned, the third had someone else staying in it, the fourth smelled overwhelmingly of smoke and the 5th had bugs. Please save yourself the trouble of finding another hotel at the last min. Unless you are up for an adventure, do t stay here
