Built amid a landscape of lush jungle, rugged coastline and fragrant fruit plantations, Cuixmala is in one of the most beautiful and biodiverse pockets of western Mexico. Famous for its opulent architecture and abundant wildlife, this 25,000-acre estate has long been a magnet for high profile visitors – Kissinger, Reagan and Nixon all holidayed here when it was home to British magnate James Goldsmith. Now in the hands of his daughter Alix, this Pacific-facing paradise has been transformed into a lavish yet eco-friendly resort – but its size and sense of privacy still attracts A-listers like butterflies to just-bloomed flowers. The buildings alone are spread over almost 5,000 acres, and the wider estate has more wildlife-rich land and pristine beaches than you could possibly explore in a single stay.
Pros: The Natural Beauty, pristine beaches and wildlife are exceptional.
Cons: Expensive for the service received. Unprofessional, untrained and in some cases, rude Staff with limited experience in basic table service with an Inability to communicate outside of their own language. Casa Gomez Restaurant serves unimaginative, uninspired and repetitive cheap two star food for a 5 star price. Wine is again cheap supermarket quality at inflated prices and served as such. On one occasion We were greeted at the restaurant by the chef asking us to confirm how much tip We had paid the day before. Totally unacceptable in any environment and disgraceful in a supposedly 4 star resort with 5 star prices. After our first day We took all our meals outside of the Cuixmala resort and received better food and service for less money. If you stay in the Casitas you are made to feel excluded from the full resort experience and have restricted access to certain restaurants , beaches and bars. From the moment of arrival you are bombarded with sales pitches for extra excursions, meal plans etc, instead of being introduced to the advertised experience you already paid a high price for. In an area where the competition is high We found Cuixmala to be lacking in offering a competitive experience to other resorts.
