Big clean rooms, large bathrooms with a wet room shower. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
The food was fantastic
Beautiful and quite just outside oxford with a bus stop almost every 30 minutes going into town.
Freidnly staff, excellent food, very nice clean modern room My only minor gripe if there where no walk in shower or shower screen on freestanding bath. The one benefit was I had a really nice soak in the large bath.
The restaurant food was amazing, had a glorious meal on Friday night. Eggs Benedict for breakfast another highlight No lift.
The staff were helpfull friendly and welcoming, The quality of food provided was excellent however was overcooked and dry
Very little I thought the hotel rooms and reception area was 'tired'. There were no bar staff at approx 20.30 and it tok me 12 minutes to be served. The kipper (no haddock available) I was served at reakfast were poorly cooked. The staff (excluding bar) were very pleasant.
Convenience for Cropredy Folk Festival. Good car parking. Sunday morning bell ringing Room - though non-smoking, smelt of stale smoke. Also, for the cost of the room I think it a lttle surprising that the breakfast was not included in the cost
Room was very cold , and had a watery noise coming from ceiling ?
ideal for our business plus pleasure visit shopping.exellent location for a visit to banbury. very clean and comfortable, hotel staff very friendly and helpful will use again soon
breakfast & friendly staff we chose the champagn & chocolate offer including breakfast, this was a very large room but noisy from the traffic at the front of the hotel.
We booked the rooms to attend a function happening at the hotel - it was very convenient for this purpose and comfortable. We thought that the breakfast was overpriced - but we did not need to take it!
staff and food were of a very high standard
The whole experience
Situation in village, friendly staff, nice room, quiet location Black out curtains/blinds needed (every hotel I have stayed in falls short on this point), doors that don't let in blinding beams of light at floor level. Also breakfast could have been better organised; there were no cereal dishes available until the cooked dishes were served.
Very peaceful location. There was a mix up with the room on arrival but this was immediately dealt with by the staff who were helpful and polite throughout our stay. The room was terrfic, very comfortable although we would have liked an extra armchair instead of just one or is that just our age!? The information stated internet facilities in the room but I had to sit in reception areas to receive the WiFi connection but I believe this was because we stayed in one of the larger rooms in the old section of the hotel.
good service good foof fair price all good
I always try to stay here as in my opinion its the best value for money in the area. I'm still amazed that this hotel does not charge upwards of £100 per night. Refreshing to see that Customer Service is not a thing of the past in the UK as most other hotels seemed to of lost. Internet connection is very intermittent, annoying when trying to access emails.
i would have liked to have a desk in the bedroom, next time i'll ask for one.
A lovely Hotel in a very beautiful picturesque village. It was'nt long enough
Kind staff I had dinner at the hotel and I found there was only course menu although it was very good.
Very relaxing, but professional approach by staff and presentation of hotel. On this occasion, the room I stayed in. The bathroom looked a little tired compared to the rest of the rooms I've stayed in on other stays.
Very friendly staff, good food, excellent location in town. A very enjoyable experience.
Clean, relaxed, homely & historic. Lovely big room. Breakfast was included but cooked option didn't appear fresh-likely been sitting on hot plate for a while.
Nice ambiance, attractive historic building, friendly staff My chair leg slid down a huge crack in the bar floor at breakfast time - in an old building things like this are always possible so repairs have to be done in a timely manner.
Excellent Staff No Power Shower
Historic Could do with bigger portions of cooked breakfast,as not all like cereal beforehand.
The room was big and the shower room was well appointed. The breakfast was good Although the shower room was very nice it could have done with a power shower as it was a deluxe room We had to ask for a heater as the radiator was not on and didnt come on during our stay .The traffic noise was verybad .we could here too much of what was going onin other rooms!!!
Delightful premises and comfortable , spacious room providing an excellent nights sleep . ample breakfast . Staff were very pleasant by very amateur and senior staff almost casual . The common areas could certainly do with a bit of maintenance and decoration . a request for a snack in the evening was met with the reply that the kitchen was closed early because they had a large party in for a meal ; an offer of something modest would have been nice , rather than peanuts before bed !
Great oldy worldy hotel but needs modernisation of bathroom facilities. Its situation in Woodstock makes it very convenient for visiting Blenheim Palace and Oxford. Good quality full english breakfast served by polite staff. Dont book into room one its over the stairwell and you can hear all the noise from the bar below until 12.30 ish at night. Plus when the windows are open you get all the smoke from outside below where people stand at the door. We asked to be moved on the second night.
the location the duvet was stained had to ask them to change it. mirrow light in bathroom didnt work. double glazing panes not on window but up against wall. ivy from outside growing inside through windows. radio on all of the time in the bar not giving us any peace. expensive for what you got.
The food, the relaxed atmosphere and very good, friendly staff. The power shower wasn't particularly good but hardly a bad point
Nothing It was a motel with small dowdy rooms attached to a pub. breakfast in the bar. It is 1.8 miles from the centre of Woodstock. Not worth the AA stars.
Staff helpful, friendly and 100% willing to help. Food excellent and great value. superb.
Breakfast was excellent.
There was ample parking, the room was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. we were visiting Blenheim Palace so the Hotel was within easy reach (3min) of Woodstock and the Palace.
The staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough to help. They booked taxi's and recommended local places. The local area is amazing, definitely worth a trip
Friendly and helpful staff
friendly helpful staff, good beer. noisy pipework
enjoyed dinner and breakfast and friendlyness of the manager and staff - enjoyed the open fire place - hotel was easy to find located a little too far out of Woodstock which meant we had to use the car to visit Windsor central as opposed to leaving the car and walking we didn't realise this at the time of booking - also free WIFI only worked in the bar area not in your room - no real problem but just a little inconvenient
The staff were t.he best part as they were so friendly and the food was lovely sheets and blankets on the bed rather than duvet
large garden area and reasonable bar menue
Clean room with tea & coffee making facilities, lots of hot water, good breakfast & proximity to town centre (walking 5/10 mins). Enjoyed age & feel of building. Staff polite but not particularly friendly, although I admit that in Dubai we get used to our hotels offering an exemplary standard of service. Cromwell staff not particularly helpful or forthcoming when I needed to find information about train times. Did their jobs satisfactorily but didn't go 'extra mile'.
Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Good location within the town.
Friendliness of the staff No information provided for people with special needs.
The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs.
Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, brilliant Thai restaurant across the road
The bathroom was freezing cold, window wouldn't shut. The shower head, when turned sprayed water all over the bathroom, soaking the floor and everything else in it's way. I was informed of a party and that there would be noise in the marquee which would transer into the hotel at 11. However the horrendous noise from the disco which was in fact directly under my room started at 7p.m. or thereabouts. There was a connecting door to the next room and it sounded like the neighbours were in the same room as myself.
Breakfast was fantastic, great cooked breakfast and wide range of continental breakfast. Noise from the street, although due to the age of the building I guess modern double glazing is probably not allowed!
Pokey room; poor range of TV channels; leaking shower; inadequate radio; missing lights in bathroom
staff seemed friendly, breakfast was good, car park at the back, which is good,we had a courtyard room which was fine, no bath though, just shower nothing
Friendly, comfortable, good breakfast. Minor: room unheated in daytime (chilly in February), although comfortable in morning/evening.
Breakfast was very good. Served in a pleasant light room with plenty of choice of food. Service a bit slow on second day - order for toast forgotten. Having to have breakfast between 7.30 and 8.30 am.
Very comfortable, warm and friendly atmosphere, good food served on quality china, in good location - made to feel really welcome - had afternoon tea in dining room with visiting family and small grandchild, perfect end to weekend break - thoroughly recommended. Couldn't fault anything.
Very friendly staff. Room of good size and comfortable had all the facilities one would expect. Food of excellent quality and quantity.Price very reasonable. We had three enjoyable nights at this hotel.
Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast No smoking at all, but also no ashtray at the front door or nearby; this makes us stay away from this hotel next time. Only 5 channels on the tv
Bed, storage space, location, car park Breakfast finishes too early at 8.30am I would have preferred a bath The tv was rather small and the bedpost was in the way.
It was convenient for our purpose and visit to Banbury, it was a good location which suited our needs, this hotel is an ideal base for a couple of nights. Good Home cooked breakfast. would have prefered a later breakfast time, but no complaints
The land lady was very helpful and friendly. We were a little rushed out of breakfast which finished at 9.30 although we hadn't quite finished our food.
Could not get into room till 4pm did not leave much of the day left the staff
Easy to find and closeness to centre of Banbury Layout was poor with too many stairs up and down.
Clean, tidy and good value for money. Staff was friendly and efficient. Not enough milk and sugar in room.
Easy access to town. Being allowed to smoke in room. Children from wedding party using guest areas as a playground.
friendly staff, excellent breakfast, pleasant location in attractive market town, convenient to the centre. Only fourteen words and you ask for a minimum of fifteen but i have nothing further to add nothing
No wireless in my room. It should be too far from access point. but... Check out need a lot time and they try to charge what we did not get service.
Only stayed one night, but found room very comfortable, well equipped and check in/ check out conducted very easily.
Pleasant comfortable room, quiet, easy parking,
Free parking, short walk to town centre, fair sized room, all the facilities we needed Long walk to the room through a maze of corridors, staff not all that welcoming but otherwise fine
My trip was for business and teh room was quiet and comfortable and allowed me to do some work prior rto my meeting.
Location nr Blenheim Palace and central of Woodstock; Staff were excellent in dealing with a booking error; room was newly furnished; food was great We booked a four poster bed room; which wasn't available- we'd been allocated a standard room - error in their processing- staff quickly rectified by finding us an exec suite and adding breakfast and £20 off bill; bathroom was very cold - mentioned that at checkout; chimney fire at 5.25am meant that we have to vacate our room in -5 degC temps
the bedroom there was a big coach party in the breakfast room we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated and the noise was dreadful with people standing close to our table carrying on conversations. not relaxing at all. this hotel is over-trading on its facilities.
Fine old building with lots of charachter. Staff helpful and friendly Very pricy for the room we had which was basic and we could hear clearly all of the activity in the next room. Prices of the mini bar are outrageous-also a dinner of modest proportions came to over £90 for two.
Beautiful setting, lovely surroundings, good food and friendly staff. Accommodation clean and comfortable.
Our room number 6 was fantastic, extremely cosy and value for money.
I booked the Blenheim package, when I arrived and was shown to the room, was suprised to be given the Marlborough Suite, which was awseome. With a seperate lounge, two plasma screen t.v.,s and a wonderful four poster bed. What a lovely suprise. We used the dining room in the evening, and had a deliscious 3 course meal with wine. What a lovely treat, can,t wait to return, especially as at Blenheim they turned our tickets into annual passes free of charge, so will definatelly be visiting again.
Visit Palace food and drink cost
The location is excellent. Right on the main street in the delightful village of Woodstock. There are a lot of super eating places around every corner. We did have lunch on the first day of our stay. Lets just stay that it did not inspire us to book dinner for either evening. Try to make sure that byou do not have anyone sleeping in a room above you - the creaking will keep you awake.
The fact that we were within walking distance to Blenheim Palace. Apart from that we used the Hotel as a stopping off place on our journey south and nothing else. We dined out at another restaurant in Woodstock because we did not fancy the menu at the Bear.
Its position in the town; furnishings of a high standard, staff very well presented. Although many foreign staff all spoke English of a very high standard. I think the costs of breakfast there is excessive, really. The bar area could do with freshening up a bit.
Welcoming, good atmosphere great location and plent of parking space. n/a can't think of anything we didn't like!
Rooms were clean and functional and the motel type rooms were just what we required. The location was perfect for our requirements. Price was reasonable. Staff were friendly amd helpful. Breakfast was very good.
the guest house was clean and the staff friendly. the beds were very comfortable and the bedding really smooth and nice. lovely towels too.
Room was very clean and well presented, people were pleasant and friendly, good breakfast was served. Only bad point was that as I was on the top floor the shower pressure was not great as I am used to having power showers.
The owners were very friendly. The room was clean and warm. The breakfast was good. Very good location in Banbury. Adequate parking.
Only booked a single room but as they were not full was given a double at no extra cost. Very good breakfast.
If you need to caution me about offensive language I will waste no more of my time.
On our visit we found the staff to be very friendly, the food to be excellent and the room to be of a good standard. In all a very enjoyable stay, we would certainly stay in this hotel again when we visit the area.
The hosts were gracious and responsive to any issues. The country setting of the hotel is picturesque. The food was good, and portions fair. And great beer! Location is somewhat remote, with no bus lines available, so taxi was required at times, since we had no car. Highway noise is constant, but windows kept out most of it.
Food - steak dinner and breakfast. Room got quite hot at night. There was no air conditioning unit.
Relaxed, informal atmosphere
The local match in the Aunt Sally League going on despite the rain.
Personal attention. Very helpful and accommodating. Friendly service. A comfortable stay in every sense of the word. A little noisy if you wanted the window open as so close to the M40.
Very wecolming staff (owners), nicely cooked good value food.
The meal (Dinner) was good but the menu seemed to have lots of courses with chips. Full English Breakfast was very good. Due to the road noise from M40 we could not have the window open. The bed was protected by plastic coverings which were not nice to sleep on.
Evening Meal was splendid. Room clean and orderly. Bathroom very tiny. WiFi signal in room was poor. Room hot and no fan provided. Noisy from m40 when window open
courtesy and service
very comfy bed
Nice surroundings, friendly staff. Cold.
Friendly and helpfull staff N/A
The room was very clean and pleasent. The staff are very friendly and accommodating
clean and good value, super breakfast
Size of room and bathroom. Plenty of room to move about, important for me as a disabled person. Slight difficulty with narrow winding staircase.I have limited mobility. I could manage up but not down. However, there was another regular staircase for going down!
Staff were really helpful and polite. They took the trouble to use your name.
Easy going polite staff with a sense of humour. Restaurant food was excellant ,freshly cooked and able to deal with a special diet imaginatively. Double room with shower was perhaps a bit small
friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere
Great food, excellent service, lovely room, free Wi Fi connection Far too hot, no fresh air, no mobile signal
Excellent position relative to Blenheim Palace and Oxford. Attentive staff and a first class restaurant. Lack of air conditioning in higher level rooms. Hot air tended to rise up the stair well.
Breakfast Our room lacked a view
Good location. Excellent food.
Very comfortable room, loved the jelly beans! Bathroom a little cold and no proper mirror.
Rooms, esp bathrooms very tatty. Wallpaper peeling, paint in need of refreshing, bathrooms very tired and tacky. Food ordinary. Luggage service non-existent. Price extorionate for what was offered. Unimpressed
excellent english country hotel food is good but breakfast should be better.
The ambience and service All fine
Superb Food Excellent receotion service Room was a little hot
Brilliant range of continental and English breakfast in a nice setting. Really nice staff and good service. The room is better than the five star Randolph hotel in the Oxford city centre, and has a decent size en-suite bathroom. A pot of green tea for two in the afternoon was £6.50 in the back garden, although we had the garden all to ourselves that afternoon. There was no lifts in the hotel but we did leave our baby's pram at the reception.
This was a lovely, friendly pub. Super clean, good food, well stocked mini-fridge. Only bad thing was someone smoking outside my window one night and finding it. The GPS directions stopped about 2 miles away. It is quite a way outside the village, which makes it nice, but I had to call to find out how to get there.
People running the hotel were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Very friendly staff and good food. The pleasant garden was suitable for adults and children to enjoy. The steep outside steps to our room
Really nice pub adjoining accomodation, food was 5*.
Friendly and relaxed atmosphere
we liked the ambience , the locality, food was exellent and Fabienne is great .
A lovely welcome and very good food. There was a band on on the Saturday night which was very popular. There was a lot of local 'character' which was fun. The rooms are looking a bit tired and some attention to detail is needed. The shower curtain in my room was full of mould and the floor in the bedroom needed a good vacuuming. The valances on the beds needed ironing. There was a lot of noise as people were going home from the pub after the band had finished playing.
Very good food - very friendly proprieter and staff. Went to great trouble to provide something not on menu for Breakfast.Wouod definitely want to stay there again. Room (in block outside main building) was on the dark side and felt chilly on arrival (Warm day outside) but soon warmed up. Could do with an easy chair in room.
Very friendly and peaceful. Just what we wanted.
Absolutely lovely! To be honest we were just expecting a pub however it is on a lovely, middle of nowhere feeling road in the countryside and the hosts could not have been more welcoming. Food was great!!!!! Easy and no fuss. Would definitely recommend!
Country Inn approach, very personal and good evening entertainment.
