Our room number 6 was fantastic, extremely cosy and value for money.
Beautiful setting, lovely surroundings, good food and friendly staff. Accommodation clean and comfortable.
The fact that we were within walking distance to Blenheim Palace. Apart from that we used the Hotel as a stopping off place on our journey south and nothing else. We dined out at another restaurant in Woodstock because we did not fancy the menu at the Bear.
The location is excellent. Right on the main street in the delightful village of Woodstock. There are a lot of super eating places around every corner. We did have lunch on the first day of our stay. Lets just stay that it did not inspire us to book dinner for either evening. Try to make sure that byou do not have anyone sleeping in a room above you - the creaking will keep you awake.
I booked the Blenheim package, when I arrived and was shown to the room, was suprised to be given the Marlborough Suite, which was awseome. With a seperate lounge, two plasma screen t.v.,s and a wonderful four poster bed. What a lovely suprise. We used the dining room in the evening, and had a deliscious 3 course meal with wine. What a lovely treat, can,t wait to return, especially as at Blenheim they turned our tickets into annual passes free of charge, so will definatelly be visiting again.
Location nr Blenheim Palace and central of Woodstock; Staff were excellent in dealing with a booking error; room was newly furnished; food was great We booked a four poster bed room; which wasn't available- we'd been allocated a standard room - error in their processing- staff quickly rectified by finding us an exec suite and adding breakfast and £20 off bill; bathroom was very cold - mentioned that at checkout; chimney fire at 5.25am meant that we have to vacate our room in -5 degC temps
the bedroom there was a big coach party in the breakfast room we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated and the noise was dreadful with people standing close to our table carrying on conversations. not relaxing at all. this hotel is over-trading on its facilities.
Fine old building with lots of charachter. Staff helpful and friendly Very pricy for the room we had which was basic and we could hear clearly all of the activity in the next room. Prices of the mini bar are outrageous-also a dinner of modest proportions came to over £90 for two.
Its position in the town; furnishings of a high standard, staff very well presented. Although many foreign staff all spoke English of a very high standard. I think the costs of breakfast there is excessive, really. The bar area could do with freshening up a bit.
Visit Palace food and drink cost
large garden area and reasonable bar menue
The bathroom was freezing cold, window wouldn't shut. The shower head, when turned sprayed water all over the bathroom, soaking the floor and everything else in it's way. I was informed of a party and that there would be noise in the marquee which would transer into the hotel at 11. However the horrendous noise from the disco which was in fact directly under my room started at 7p.m. or thereabouts. There was a connecting door to the next room and it sounded like the neighbours were in the same room as myself.
staff seemed friendly, breakfast was good, car park at the back, which is good,we had a courtyard room which was fine, no bath though, just shower nothing
Pokey room; poor range of TV channels; leaking shower; inadequate radio; missing lights in bathroom
Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Good location within the town.
Clean room with tea & coffee making facilities, lots of hot water, good breakfast & proximity to town centre (walking 5/10 mins). Enjoyed age & feel of building. Staff polite but not particularly friendly, although I admit that in Dubai we get used to our hotels offering an exemplary standard of service. Cromwell staff not particularly helpful or forthcoming when I needed to find information about train times. Did their jobs satisfactorily but didn't go 'extra mile'.
Friendliness of the staff No information provided for people with special needs.
The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs.
Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, brilliant Thai restaurant across the road
Breakfast was fantastic, great cooked breakfast and wide range of continental breakfast. Noise from the street, although due to the age of the building I guess modern double glazing is probably not allowed!
clean and good value, super breakfast
Easy going polite staff with a sense of humour. Restaurant food was excellant ,freshly cooked and able to deal with a special diet imaginatively. Double room with shower was perhaps a bit small
Staff were really helpful and polite. They took the trouble to use your name.
Size of room and bathroom. Plenty of room to move about, important for me as a disabled person. Slight difficulty with narrow winding staircase.I have limited mobility. I could manage up but not down. However, there was another regular staircase for going down!
courtesy and service
Friendly and helpfull staff N/A
The room was very clean and pleasent. The staff are very friendly and accommodating
Nice surroundings, friendly staff. Cold.
friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere
very comfy bed
The staff were t.he best part as they were so friendly and the food was lovely sheets and blankets on the bed rather than duvet
The staff were fantastic, couldn't do enough to help. They booked taxi's and recommended local places. The local area is amazing, definitely worth a trip
Breakfast was excellent.
friendly helpful staff, good beer. noisy pipework
Nothing It was a motel with small dowdy rooms attached to a pub. breakfast in the bar. It is 1.8 miles from the centre of Woodstock. Not worth the AA stars.
There was ample parking, the room was clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. we were visiting Blenheim Palace so the Hotel was within easy reach (3min) of Woodstock and the Palace.
Friendly and helpful staff
Staff helpful, friendly and 100% willing to help. Food excellent and great value. superb.
enjoyed dinner and breakfast and friendlyness of the manager and staff - enjoyed the open fire place - hotel was easy to find located a little too far out of Woodstock which meant we had to use the car to visit Windsor central as opposed to leaving the car and walking we didn't realise this at the time of booking - also free WIFI only worked in the bar area not in your room - no real problem but just a little inconvenient
Good location. Excellent food.
Excellent position relative to Blenheim Palace and Oxford. Attentive staff and a first class restaurant. Lack of air conditioning in higher level rooms. Hot air tended to rise up the stair well.
Brilliant range of continental and English breakfast in a nice setting. Really nice staff and good service. The room is better than the five star Randolph hotel in the Oxford city centre, and has a decent size en-suite bathroom. A pot of green tea for two in the afternoon was £6.50 in the back garden, although we had the garden all to ourselves that afternoon. There was no lifts in the hotel but we did leave our baby's pram at the reception.
Breakfast Our room lacked a view
Rooms, esp bathrooms very tatty. Wallpaper peeling, paint in need of refreshing, bathrooms very tired and tacky. Food ordinary. Luggage service non-existent. Price extorionate for what was offered. Unimpressed
Superb Food Excellent receotion service Room was a little hot
Very comfortable room, loved the jelly beans! Bathroom a little cold and no proper mirror.
excellent english country hotel food is good but breakfast should be better.
The ambience and service All fine
Great food, excellent service, lovely room, free Wi Fi connection Far too hot, no fresh air, no mobile signal
Excellent food. The suite was too small and poorly designed. Very little drawer space and no shelf space. Suggest remove the trunk and replace with chest of drawers. For a tall elderly person, the shower was difficult to use. .Needed a soap/shampoo shelf and grab rail at shower height.
It felt warm and friendly.
Our room had been recently renovated and was value for the money. Staff were friendly and helpfull
comfortable amd good value for business traveller no
Good parking, polite staff, centre of village.
vety nice hotel
The room was warm comfortable and clean. The lighting in the room was poor. The tv was too small to view unless sitting within 3 feet of the screen. The mirror in the bathroom should be fixed to the wall over the basin at the appropriate height for an adult. We were not told on booking in that the hotel dining room was fully booked for dinner that evening. Breakfast service was unacceptable - Over Half Hour wait for cooked food. The waitress did not tell that there was a problem/delay to cooked dishes. No butter nor milk on the table - had to ask. We were not offered a second cup of coffee whilst we waited. The scrambled eggs when they arrived were a ghastly greasy mess and the mushrooms swimming in oil.
The village of Deddington The rooms were very small for the price they were charging. Some facilities were of a low standard. We had to upgrade because of the low standard of room but were charged for this.
The food, free wi-fi Bathroom very cold, poor bed, room a bit small. The radiator in the bedroom was not working, told staff nothing was done, had to fix it myself!
The food was fantastic with a varied menu to suit all tastes.
The restaurant food was amazing, had a glorious meal on Friday night. Eggs Benedict for breakfast another highlight No lift.
We booked the rooms to attend a function happening at the hotel - it was very convenient for this purpose and comfortable. We thought that the breakfast was overpriced - but we did not need to take it!
breakfast & friendly staff we chose the champagn & chocolate offer including breakfast, this was a very large room but noisy from the traffic at the front of the hotel.
ideal for our business plus pleasure visit shopping.exellent location for a visit to banbury. very clean and comfortable, hotel staff very friendly and helpful will use again soon
Very little I thought the hotel rooms and reception area was 'tired'. There were no bar staff at approx 20.30 and it tok me 12 minutes to be served. The kipper (no haddock available) I was served at reakfast were poorly cooked. The staff (excluding bar) were very pleasant.
Room was very cold , and had a watery noise coming from ceiling ?
Convenience for Cropredy Folk Festival. Good car parking. Sunday morning bell ringing Room - though non-smoking, smelt of stale smoke. Also, for the cost of the room I think it a lttle surprising that the breakfast was not included in the cost
The staff were helpfull friendly and welcoming, The quality of food provided was excellent however was overcooked and dry
Big clean rooms, large bathrooms with a wet room shower. Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Beautiful and quite just outside oxford with a bus stop almost every 30 minutes going into town.
The food was fantastic
Freidnly staff, excellent food, very nice clean modern room My only minor gripe if there where no walk in shower or shower screen on freestanding bath. The one benefit was I had a really nice soak in the large bath.
Friendly, comfortable, good breakfast. Minor: room unheated in daytime (chilly in February), although comfortable in morning/evening.
Could not get into room till 4pm did not leave much of the day left the staff
Bed, storage space, location, car park Breakfast finishes too early at 8.30am I would have preferred a bath The tv was rather small and the bedpost was in the way.
Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast No smoking at all, but also no ashtray at the front door or nearby; this makes us stay away from this hotel next time. Only 5 channels on the tv
Breakfast was very good. Served in a pleasant light room with plenty of choice of food. Service a bit slow on second day - order for toast forgotten. Having to have breakfast between 7.30 and 8.30 am.
The land lady was very helpful and friendly. We were a little rushed out of breakfast which finished at 9.30 although we hadn't quite finished our food.
Very friendly staff. Room of good size and comfortable had all the facilities one would expect. Food of excellent quality and quantity.Price very reasonable. We had three enjoyable nights at this hotel.
Very comfortable, warm and friendly atmosphere, good food served on quality china, in good location - made to feel really welcome - had afternoon tea in dining room with visiting family and small grandchild, perfect end to weekend break - thoroughly recommended. Couldn't fault anything.
It was convenient for our purpose and visit to Banbury, it was a good location which suited our needs, this hotel is an ideal base for a couple of nights. Good Home cooked breakfast. would have prefered a later breakfast time, but no complaints
Welcoming, good atmosphere great location and plent of parking space. n/a can't think of anything we didn't like!
The owners were very friendly. The room was clean and warm. The breakfast was good. Very good location in Banbury. Adequate parking.
Room was very clean and well presented, people were pleasant and friendly, good breakfast was served. Only bad point was that as I was on the top floor the shower pressure was not great as I am used to having power showers.
the guest house was clean and the staff friendly. the beds were very comfortable and the bedding really smooth and nice. lovely towels too.
Only booked a single room but as they were not full was given a double at no extra cost. Very good breakfast.
Rooms were clean and functional and the motel type rooms were just what we required. The location was perfect for our requirements. Price was reasonable. Staff were friendly amd helpful. Breakfast was very good.
This was a lovely, friendly pub. Super clean, good food, well stocked mini-fridge. Only bad thing was someone smoking outside my window one night and finding it. The GPS directions stopped about 2 miles away. It is quite a way outside the village, which makes it nice, but I had to call to find out how to get there.
