Our only problem was the wifi .. It was iffy and unstable.
Everything we needed for a basic one-night stay was here. There aren't a lot of the "bells & whistles" of more expensive locations but the price couldn't be beat in the area. Though there wasn't a continental breakfast offered, by the time we ate at a local major chain restaurant, we were still under $100 for the stay. Staff was friendly & courteous. Location is easy to find and convenient to local attractions. Definitely recommend. We'll be back... No complaints.
I liked just about everything. *Very clean (#1 most-important thing for me) *friendly staff *room service every morning for fresh towels & toiletries *very quiet rooms (I never heard any of my neighbors through the walls and the hotel was completely booked 2 of my 3 nights there). Any outside noises only came through the door. *good sized mini-fridge (I was on a restricted diet, brought all my own meals and they all fit) *king bed was not too firm or too soft with comfy pillows that looked relatively new *relatively modern decor with a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. (It did NOT look like a 70's porn set like many other motels of similar size and price) *they gave me a free local newspaper when I checked out *great price! Notes: --there is an ice machine and vending machine on site. --walking distance to several fast-food restaurants and a steak buffet and several shops in Duncansville --minutes away from the convention center and also Altoona's shopping district Dislikes: *TV channel selection. It's a basic+ so it's OK for most people, but none of my favorites are included in the package (Science, H2, NHL Network, NFL Network). Also, no movie options. (It was OK though as I brought my Xbox anyway). *I am not a big fan of the parking lot. Plenty of spaces, but not a very logical layout. Notes: --Near active train tracks. Was not an issue for me, but worth a mention. The train was not very frequent (I think I heard it 3 times in 3 days), and other than the horn it was barely audible over the TV (on volume level 12) and the heater blower fan. It might be an issue during warmer months if you like to open the windows instead of using the A/C.
Not bad price. Convenient location to bars, restaurants, shopping centers etc. no carpet I prefer the hardwood floors. Staff was nice. Room was super minimal. Limited tv stations. No microwave or fridge. Not alot of lighting. No shampoo Etc in shower have to supply your own.
This location, has undergone the Motel 6 Update/ Reset. I have stayed at numerous Motel 6 locations throughout the country since the 80's. This location in Altoona is nice and clean. From the road perspective, it is definitely older, as it is a One Story Shotgun design, but if you can get over the Motel 6 stigma of cheap, it is a very decent location otherwise. The gentleman working the desk the evening we arrived, was nice and courteous, as was the staff working the AM shift upon checkout. The bedding was comfortable, and was clean. Not a bug in sight, nor a sign of dirtiness anywhere. The room was equipped with a 32" LED TV, and though the channel selection is limited in Altoona, it was nice to be able to watch something clearly, while getting my eyes off the road. Accessibility wise, this location is about a 1/2 Mile off the main roads in Altoona, and the entrance appears a bit deceiving, as there is a residential house at the driveway, but otherwise it is fairly easy to find. If you are traveling with pets, this location is definitely pet friendly. Yes, you need to disclose that you have pets with you at check-in, but that is the only piece of information they need. Wi-Fi was optional for a $5 Fee for 24 Hours. Being that I had data to use, I just turned one my devices into a secure hot-spot and utilized that for Wi-Fi. Thus, I have no experience with the Wi-Fi signal. If you are on the road, and need a comfy bed to sleep in for the night, I definitely recommend stopping at this location. Whenever we come back through Altoona, I will be staying here again. Towels were a bit small. I'm a tall gentleman, and it would have been nice to have longer towels for drying off with. Texture of towels were not rough. I've used sandpaper towels before, and these were definitely softer than sandpaper.
The easy access to the Penn State game! - Friendly and Clean N/A
I was very impressed. For the price we paid, we did not expect so much for so little. The room was nice and clean.
Refrigerator. Bathroom was in good shape and clean. Worn out mattress. The room carpet wasn't clean. Limited parking. No place to walk to for dinner.
Close to what I wanted to see. Motel's hallway smelled of smoke. My room was a non-smoking room surrounded by smoking rooms. My room smelled like a smoking room. My bathroom sink was clogged up. In bathroom found cloths left behind by previous occupant. AC didn't work well.
Friendly man at front desk. The fact that the property looks like the "Bates Motel" (inside AND out) isn't his fault, I suppose... The rooms were clean enough. The temperature in the room when we arrived was 60 degrees! "No problem", I thought, "I'll just crank the thermostat." 4 hours later, the paltry emanations from the baseboard heater got the room to around 68 degrees. Unacceptable!!! Everything is horribly outdated and done to the bare minimum. Don't rent a room here unless 1) it's the last available one within 200 miles, or 2) you're only going to be using it for an hour or so.
If you're in this area and need a place to sleep, this is it! great tv, warm room, quiet area. front desk very friendly. shower head sprayed so hard it got the floor wet!
Ease of check in and check out was great. Loud TV from the room next door til almost 2:00AM then snoring!!! We had to get up very early the next morning and did not get much sleep at all. Not the motels fault. Thicker walls would've been a God send!
