8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, easy on street parking, short walking distance to restaurants and town centre, tea, coffee, fruit etc available in common room, friendly owners.
Cons: Steep, narrow turning staircase which was difficult to navigate with luggage. Bedroom and bathroom quite small.

Pros: Excellent location close to historic center. Friendly owners. Nice patio (for breakfast, etc.). Unobtrusive air conditioning. Nice century-old neighborhood. General pleasantness. Quite clean and tidy.
Cons: There wasn’t much I didn’t like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice breakfast setup. Good location, right at the edge of town. Proprietors friendly and helpful. Nice rear garden with comfortable chairs and sofas.

9.2 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed one night. It's an easy walk to the historic district. Ron and Julie were wonderful hosts. Fresh coffee and fruit in the morning and Ron's homemade biscotti from his Grandmother's recipe was a special treat.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was right above downtown Nevada City and close to all shops and restaurants. Ron and Julie were friendly and welcoming. The biscotti was delicious!
Cons: The front stairs were very steep but were in character with the house. Not sure how they could change that.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owners, great location, very clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very nice, clean inn a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants of the historic district. The owners run the place and are very friendly and accommodating. Our room was cozy and comfortable, the grounds are beautiful and welcoming.
Cons: The bed in our room was too soft for me, but I like a firm mattress. And I saw another guest write that their mattress was too firm so there you go :-)
Deer Creek Inn - Nevada City - Building
2
9.5 Excellent (127 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you a stay at Deer Creek Inn in Nevada City, you'll be on the waterfront, within a 5-minute walk of Nevada City Chamber of Commerce and Historic Firehouse No. 1 Museum. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Deer Creek Inn is an opportunity to stay at a historic property in Nevada City situated along the banks of peaceful and captivating Deer Creek. Built in 1860, the building retains many charming elements of the original Victorian home - yet the traveler staying here will not feel discomforted for the antique reminders of yesteryear. Presided over by an exceptional innkeeper and staff, the inn is located within a very short walking distance of the preserved historic downtown of this California gold rush community.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were excellent, and Ruth was nice. The building was very well maintained/clean, and the grounds were pretty special. The Inn is located at the transition between a historic residential neighborhood and historic downtown Nevada City, wonderful.
Cons: Our room's bathroom was small but adequate, as should be expected in a house that was built during the 19th century. An occasional loud vehicle would race up the adjacent street on Friday and Saturday nights, but Sunday night was quiet.
7.5 Good
Pros: It’s a lovely old Victorian home in a great location for easy access/walking distance to downtown NC theaters, restaurants, shops, etc. Ruth, the welcoming Innkeeper, certainly paid homage to the old gold rush era history of the home. The back area is a quiet creekside oasis. A nice place to rest/sip a while. The bed was comfy, breakfast delicious and a hot bath in the deep antique claw foot tub was a bonus! Loved the place! I guess that’s why the couple sitting with me at breakfast said this was their ninth time staying there!
Cons: No complaints.
7.0 Good
Pros: Great breakfast every morning.
Cons: A little traffic noise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was cozy, love the location and the beautiful house. The breakfast was amazing both mornings!

Cons: the narrow stairs to our bedroom, difficult to carry your luggage very difficult parking, due to steep grade and limited parking

8.0 Excellent
Pros: great location. Downtown is walking distance for all shops
Cons: our room could have been cleaner. There was a dirty bath towel left hanging on the bathroom door..someones previous shower towel. There was a slight smell of mold from the air conditioner or fan unit. also the house right behind the king suite looks right into the patio so if you open your patio door to have your coffee, ( provided coffee maker in the room) you'r looking into their upper windows and they can look into your room. Wear your robe! the robes are really nice.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location central, yet quiet. Easy walk to town centre restaurants, etc. The reception staff were mature and excellent hosts. They knew their job and went out of their way to help us, including facilitating an early check in. There were early evening courtesy drinks in the reception lounge, which was a nice touch. The breakfast options were way way more extensive than comparable hotels, it included a selection of hot food.
Cons: Nothing to do wth the staff: The person in the next room had a loud call at 7am, a typically thoughtless traveller, but a bang on the wall shut them up.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were wonderful. Drinks were great
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Extra pillows were great. Loved the shower. Easy access to room via elevator. Like the key lock on outside doors. Personnel was very nice.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to highway
Cons: Everything was fine
7.0 Good
Pros: Friendly helpful staff
Cons: The breakfast was very very ordinary. Since they indicated it was such a good breakfast I was very disappointed. The hotel bill was $--- plus taxes. That hotel was not worth that price.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The shower doors were awesome. Nice layout. Not really a suite, though.
Cons: Thin walls. Could hear the TV in the next room watching an action movie.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very professional! I enjoyed the entire experience!
Cons: The continental breakfast. I believe more fresh fruit should be an option. I feel the kitchen staff could be a little bit friendlier in the morning, especially when 3 guests were late to breakfast due to a communication error when checking in.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The gardens were pretty. We would come again. We did not understand why we were given a handicap room.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was clean and great breakfasts!
Cons: The only complaint I had was already addressed but it took us 40 minutes to have someone come to the desk to check us in at 1 a.m. After traveling this was not appreciated.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Although right off the highway, it felt nestled in the trees. Nice setting with table and chairs outside nearby under the trees. Easy on/off access. Although the system wasn't set up to split the bill on two credit cards automatically upon check out, a manager was nearby and took care of the process for us. He was very helpful.
Cons: At check in we didn't hear about wifi connections, or where and when the breakfast was served. We realized it later and called the front desk for more information. That is unusual for a Best Western Plus.
5.0 Okay
Cons: The room smelled like an old wet towel
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient.
Cons: Location. 5am leaf blower wake up. Not Joel, but shopping center across the street.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Free bottled water, convenient location
Cons: Very poor parking availability. Many Large utility trucks taking up 2 spaces each so nothing available after 8:30 pm all 4 nights. Night Manager was of little help. Just kept saying they weren’t responsible for cars safety if not parked in designated spot. Also all pillows in room were very firm and I was told ALL their customers wanted firm pillows. Almost checked out two nights early but managed to get 1 pillow comfortable enough for sleep. Sorry I stayed because the last night the people in room next to me partied loudly until well past 12:30 and my 3 personal requests directly to the people was ignored. Sincethe night desk man was so unhelpful about the lack of parking, I did not feel complaining to front desk would help. I won’t return
7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast had a number of hot and cold choices and was good quality,
Cons: Some freeway noise
4.0 Okay
Pros: They allowed us late checkout
Cons: We had the misfortune of showing up after a large tour group so we had to wait for the night desk clerk to process them before we could check in. Then the door card reader wouldn't work so the clerk had to let us in with the master key.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Did not eat breakfast. We were with a wedding party and did as they did. The room was clean and neat. It was quiet there and we slept soundly. Parking was close by. You could have turned off the rain for us. )Little joke)
Cons: We were totally happy. If anything, they did not seem to have a room for us with two beds. So changed rooms. Had reserved months ago. But it ended ups to be no big deal. We were happy in the end.
1.0 Poor
Pros: The location is decent, but loud and across the street from a large shopping mall with diesel trucks constantly driving by.
Cons: Checked into the room and the door was left wide open. The room was dirty and made all of the bottom of our socks black. I"ve never had that happen before at any hotel. The air conditioning unit smelled like mildew and was very loud. Terrible experience!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, convenient, breakfast was good, staff very nice, easy to find parking, room location was convenient.
Cons: I can hear everything in the surrounding rooms and in the parking lot, as if the walls were made of paper. However the things I like about the hotel outweigh this little annoyance and I do plan to return her for my monthly business trips into the area.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is close to everything
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: Mattress horrible-- must be really old - sagged deep in middle -- old plumbing water came out so hard in bathroom sink splashed all over and sink drain couldn't handle volume and filled sink quickly - slow to drain disgusting television picture quality (very fuzzy - called front desk - waid that was it ) and channel selection WEAK Really need refund -- worst hotel stay of my life -- including $60 rooms

7.0 Good
Pros: ?
Cons: strange paintings on the walls
7.5 Good
Pros: Bed is comfy. Bathroom was clean. Pool!!!
Cons: Low end facility. Carpet is not super clean...small hole in wall appears to have been there for awhile. Right on highway, can’t open window as a result. Light outside buzzed super loud all night. Sheets were a bit dingy. Pillows are shot and need to be upgraded. No place to charge phones.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Dirty. Holes in the floor and carpet extremely dirty
7.9 Good
Pros: The clerk was helpful in suggesting restaurants, the room was clean and comfortable. Cleaning staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: There was also a balcony, which was nice, it would have been perfect if the bag of trash taken away, an oversize I am sure. Parking was a bit tight, we had to park across from our room as there wasn't enough room to safely park our SUV.
1.0 Poor
Cons: This room was disgusting. Dirty sheets, water leaking from the wall, drug paraphernalia, the walls had many smears of questionable substances on them. The list goes on, we were very dissapointed!
5.4 Okay
Pros: No breakfast. Location was fine.
Cons: Under the bed was dusty. Would have been nice to have a door on the washroom. Took 10 minutes for hot water to arrive. Construction in next room to early evening.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: For an oldtime motel this was clean and in good repair.. The bed was new and so very comfortable.
Cons: I think there were live-in guests.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The value was good - the hotel room was VERY clean! Bed was awesomely comfortable. Breakfast was a bit sparse, and we had no (promised) microwave in our room. When I asked for one, it was delivered within 5 minutes. We wish it were walkable to the downtown, but the location was good. We would stay there again!
Cons: In the morning, when I went in to see what breakfast was, I felt like I was interrupting the young woman who was behind the counter...yes, she was adding receipts, but do it in private, if you don't want to be interrupted - not at the front desk of a hotel! When we went to check out, there was absolutely nobody to be found (no bell to ring). Lots of people had set their room keys on the counter, so we did the same...hope they got them!
4.8 Okay
Pros: They are under new management. No hot water. No heat. Nice staff. Because of all of the trouble, they gave me another free night.
Cons: Same as above
4.6 Okay
Pros: Not much. It seems some of the rooms are monthly. I'm not positive? Half of the doors are new. The floor was ceramic tile. That was the best thing. Hot water took a long time.
Cons: The place is old Run down as well. The room seemed clean, smells terrible. Pine- sol used extensively. We had to open the windows and leave for two hours. It was tolerable by then. My wife found a dark hair ( she is blond ) in her bed and a bug. Too big for a bedbug I hope. I will not be back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and simple. Good location between Nevada City and Grass Valley
Cons: Aging facility but A/C was working very well.

Cons: Breakfast area could have been more well lit.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Needs a cosmetic upgrade. The breakfast, included, was awful.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was not anticipated and was better than any chain hotel which serves a breakfast. The facility/lodge where the breakfast was served was old but very nice and in a beautiful setting with trees, rocks, water, and plants just outside the windows. The lodges are set just outside, not even 1/4 of a mile, of Nevada City which made it a nice retreat.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Everyone was pleasant and the grounds were nice
5.8 Okay

Pros: Clean room, nice setting, breakfast good
Cons: Poor WiFi reception, very poor tv reception, not enough glasses or coffee in the room for 3 people.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved the property, the trees and the nature.
Cons: The rooms were fairly basic, and the bathroom could be done up, hooks on the walls, nicer pillows. But over all great for the value.
7.1 Good
Pros: Quiet location
Cons: Tub / shower faucet was loose and could not be shut off completely. Reported it to manager. We were charged twice on our credit card.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds and surrounding area are absolutely beautiful. Our cottage was clean, quiet and relaxing. It was such a nice bonus to have breakfast, good hot coffee and a nice selection of breakfast options. We can’t wait to come back for an extended stay so we can explore the towns of grass valley and Nevada city.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: the setting is beautiful but the property needs updating and attention.
Cons: sink was badly damaged and all the furnishings need to be replaced and updated...feels like 1970.

1.0 Poor
Pros: Nice location and convenient to get to.
Cons: Non-smoking room smelled of musty smoke, duct tape covering light switch, missing grout in bath tub. Had to cancel and find another hotel at twice the cost at 10:00 at night.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The location was the only good thing. We wanted to be close to the fairgrounds. The motel is extremely worn. Towels, lamps (broken) and mattress are extremely ancient. Someone else’s hair tie was on the bathroom door knob and dog food was under the bathroom sink. A very rough place.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: this was an emergency trip. if we had more time, we would have stayed at another location that we've used often and never had these issues.
Cons: this was an emergency trip. if we had more time, we would have stayed at another location that we've used often and never had these issues.
4.8 Okay
Pros: The Manager was a nice guy!
Cons: The place was literally falling apart, T.V didn't work, Shower barely put out water floors were vacuumed but filthy, Definitely a last resort?
4.2 Okay
Pros: they have a decent size swimming pool and nice bbq area; we didn't use either by nice to have
Cons: they gave us a room with a single bed when we specifically booked a room with 2 beds since we have a 9 years old son. One of us had to sleep on the floor on top of blankets since they didn't have mattresses or roll-away beds. They apologized and the next morning said they might give us "some" discount next time we came. There was only one bath towel for the shower. There is some noise from the hwy. In part due to Labor Weekend, the place was pricey for the two stars accommodations.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very great Location! The Staff are wonderful & very friendly!
Cons: Needs to be upgraded ! Beds are not very comfortable-hard as a rock! Grounds need a lot of work!
6.5 Good

Pros: Location to town.
Cons: Improvement in housekeeping needed. Improvement in in-room repairs needed. Non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke on 2nd move from top floor room for 80 year old. Needed 3rd room move to find a non-smoke room. Many minus compromises for price break
7.9 Good
Pros: The cleanest motel room I have ever been in. An older motel room, but generally in good order.
Cons: Small things: The office closed by 7:00 p.m., and my room phone was dead, Apparently the owners are not on site. So, I could not ask for a wake up call. I only had a bath towel and wash cloth. I did not have a rug for the bathroom floor out side of the shower, and the bathroom had a slick tile floor. In the bedroom, there was no overhad lighting, and 1 of the 2 bedside lamps was broken. The room seemed kind of dark. These were small things that were annoying, but could be easily fixed.
1.0 Poor
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Is dirty, there are stains everywhere. Everything feels and looks old and dirty. Hairdryer didn’t work, I ask for an other one and the answer “yeah, I know that that one didn’t work. sorry I don’t have any” coffee maker in the room had no coffee. No ice machine. The pool... no thankyou. The shower, leaked. Didn’t have the light bulb to heat the restroom. Eyc., etc. The coffee and pastries was VERY poor as well. Make yourself a favor and don’t stay here. I trust in this application to look for a hotel but never more.

4.6 Okay
Pros: No breakfast of any kind
Cons: Old, needs updating. Shower ceiling has mildew, very small room.
1.0 Poor
Pros: Checking out
Cons: No shampoo and conditioner. Tub was falling apart. Plastic covers on the mattress due to bed bugs. Rough crowd that sleeps there.
6.0 Good
Cons: Towel and rack near the sink which is separate from toilet and shower. A shelf or small table near the sink for toiletries and person items.
6.3 Good
Pros: It was a convenient location to accomplish most of the things that we needed to address while in the area. The room was clean and management was friendly and quick to respond to an issue that we had with the TV. They also had plenty of ice on site.
Cons: We had to leave the air conditioner on almost constantly in order to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room and it was noisy so in order to hear the TV, we had to keep the volume elevated. The TV was old school with no HDMI capabilities or external hookups other than a few RCA jacks. The tub/shower valve was unsecured in the wall and moved every time the shower was used. The refrigerator was very small. There was no screen on the bathroom window so leaving it ajar was an open invitation to critters of all denominations to come pay us a visit and there was no other source of fresh air available. The free Wifi was horrible. Service would constantly come and go while trying to check email, search for information on-line or use our cell phones and there were two days when the frustration was just more than we could tolerate so we stopped trying. We found that to be very inconvenient and extremely annoying.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I anticipated a very basic motel accommodation, I was not expecting much since I wouldn't be there long. To my surprise, the room was actually very nice and the shower was really clean and with HOT water! Big thumbs up! The manager was very courteous and professional, and I love how they mandate that smokers do so on the OTHER SIDE of the parking lot, a a big bonus for me and anyone sensitive to smoke,

Pros: Nothing.
Cons: The room was dirty with blood stains. The clientele was very shady. Although I cannot prove it the clientele looked like they had a drug problem.

Pros: Very charming & quaint with a rich history of having housed miners and loggers during the Gold Rush and afterwards. Park-like setting is nice, the room was comfortable, especially the bed. Other guests were friendly and comfortable chatting outside.
Cons: The breakfast is nothing special, but it's there. No accessible ice machine, must go through front desk staff. The attendant on our first night was very nice and accommodating. The attendant on the following night, not so much.
6.0 Good
Pros: Good location, friendly staff.
Cons: continental breakfast was small with only a few items. No place to sit and eat your breakfast, had to take it back to the room. The room small and old. The bathroom was very cold with no heat able to get in there if the door was closed.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Location was the only positive
Cons: Desperately needs remodeling and maintenance. We fixed toilet and shower head fell off
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing place is a dump! I made reservations a month in advance requested a king size bed than they gave my room away to someone else! I had to share a queen bed with my daughter
1.0 Poor
Cons: Way over priced for the quality of the room. Everything is older than old. Things are falling apart and very dirty and small. Bed was not comfortable at all. They need to do major remolding if they’re charging a lot. Very disappointed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: i had a 'home' for a night.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nice location, convenient but quiet.
Cons: Facility is kind of old, could use renovation. Room door had a large glass window with blinds that were broken and which I could not close for privacy. There was only one very bright and harsh overhead ceiling light in the room; no reading lamps that I could use for softer lighting late at night.
1.0 Poor
Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: Horrible run down room. Mold and slime in bathroom. Cracked walls. No soundproofing, you could hear the conversation in the other room like they were in my room. Old tv. Cords and outlets everywhere. See through curtains. Everything was filthy!
1.0 Poor
Pros: Location was woodsy, close to Old Town Nevada City, Staff was friendly and helpful
Cons: This motel is run down and in disrepair, and does not look as nice as the photos on their website! The rooms smell musty and stale, there was plaster falling off the ceiling, the windows would not lock, and the beds were very uncomfortable! Awful!
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Overpriced for what it was. Dirty sheets. Walls were paper thin. Not very good at all.
4.2 Okay
Pros: Close to our destination
Cons: No breakfast, small, outdated TV and wifi didn't work.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Good location in interesting gold country town. Could be charming with some needed maintenance and creature comforts.
Cons: Heat would not go on on a cold night. We could not get tub or shower to work. Interior doors were missing needed hardware. Bathroom sink looked worn out. Bathroom was off bedroom so others had to walk through small bedroom to get to bathroom. Initially no linens were provided for sofa bed. When asked, sheets were provided; we had to ask a second time for a blanket. Owners or managers (hard to tell who they were) seemed only minimally interested in customer care. Breakfast was supposed to be included. We could not find where this might happen. Even coffee was not provided in the office in the morning.

Cons: The blackout closed down the businesses in town.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We booked Sierra Mountain Inn at short notice, due to the original accommodation being cancelled, our room was lovely, but fairly small, the area was quieter than i thought, but it was only a short walk into the town.
