We had 6 rooms booked with friends and we came up the coast for a motorcycle run.We have stayed here every year for the last 8 years. We are sad that the Gaulala Hotel is still closed we enjoy sitting on the porch there but the Surf has a nice place to sit and see the water.
Reasonably priced, excellent location in town, The fan in the bathroom is extremely noisy. The compressor of the refrigerator is so loud that it woke me up every time it started. No balcony.
Feather beds, fabulous breakfast, friendly accommodating staff, convenient to grocery, video and dining establishments very small room
Wonderful, friendly staff, beautiful view of the beach and the river (though no easy foot access to the water), central to town/shops, clean and comfortable.
Eating breakfast on Adironack chairs overlooking the ocean and surrounded by flowers. Room needs a luggage rack - there was nowhere to set suitcases.
Hummingbirds near to the ocean and a great beautiful lake. Very friendly people in and all around the Surf Motel. Monarch-butterflies and a lot of other interesting animals and fauna.
economical it is worth the price, but, it is a motel
Location on bluff over beach, close to Surf Market. The first room was painted a dark brown, like a cave. People sitting outside window smoking for several hours. We got the smoke. We asked to move and did. The next room was painted a lighter brown so not so,cave like. Most rooms do not have an ocean view, ours was of the gas station across the street. I got the impression that the place had new owners and improvements may come. At present it is pretty tired. Breakfast was nice.
Large screen hdtv, dvd player and an iPod dock were all very nice touches. The microwave oven and refrigerator were also very useful. The beds were extremely tall and comfortable. The garden is nice, with benches overlooking the ocean. The sunset was spectacular. The room was small (no table or chairs), but there were so many features that we didn't mind the limited space. The Batteries in the iPod dock (which is also the alarm clock) needed replacement. It would be best to get a ac adapter for it. But this is trivial, of course.
Quiet, peaceful, friendly staff, good breakfast, proximity to coast, grounds, funny tall bed. My boyfriend fell asleep at 8pm and slept all night on his side of the bed even tho i upgraded to ocean view room.
Room was the next to best at the motel, with an ocean view through a panoramic picture window. Great value, strategically located in-town Gualala, CA. Had to pay for WiFi service.
