Not what we expected. Barcelo name suggests an upmaket place but it was just average, breakfast was good though. Cramped room, black mould in the tiling in bathroom.
Front of House Staff are professional and friendly. The bathroom was not to my standard. There was a used shower gel container remaining on the shower fitment indicating that the shower and bath are not regularly included in the routine cleaning. This is poor practise and I consider unacceptable. I was disappointed that this was the case.
The Hotel and grounds were beautifully kept and the staff very polite and helpful. We really enjoyed the leisure centre and swimming pool. We had no hot water in our room due to a boiler fault but the staff made sure we could shower elsewhere it was inconvenient though. I was also dissappointed that for a four star hotel there were no table cloths on the dining tables for dinner it made it feel more like a pub.
We only stayed for one night as we were going to a local wedding. Good transport to location provided by minicabs to church and home that evening. I did not like the fact that the curtains did not keep out the light in the morning as they were not wide enough. Other friends mentioned this also.
Swimming pool, sauna, HB inclusive, room facilities. No free internet access
The bar felt welcoming, more personal than usual hotel bars.
We booked room only at a very reasonable price - only marginally more than a Travelodge. Hotel was very good for the money. The facilities were very good and staff helpful. We did not take breakfast as this was rather expensive at £25 for two people. Wifi was not free.
the staff were very helpfull and as i was late for dinner they fitted me in and with no complaint thank them very much
Reasonable cost and good service
it was my anniversary and they made it special the dinner was not good and the breakfast was cold
The thing I liked best was the Molton Brown stuff, the robes etc in the bathroom. I get annoyed when I pay this sort of money for a hotel room and its clearly been penny pinched. Stupid little cups to make tea in in the morning. Mugs are what real men need. Irons and ironing boards should be available in all rooms as standard - most business travellers will need to iron a shirt and its a pain to have to call housekeeping.
Very clean, beautiful buildings and gardens The staff (mostly east-european) was very unfriendly. Coffee was cold when I got breakfast served. They charged me in Euros instead of Pounds on my visa without asking meaning that I pay more to the hotel, that's ripping off.
Not bad, thought I would be getting a better room for the money paid. Very average. Double bed was fare too small. Mattress fare too soft, room far too small. Not enough hanging space in wardrobes. Lacked not having a mini bar, and fridge.TV Not adequate.Bed far too soft, too hot at night.
Beautiful grounds and nice food. Tennis and swimming facilities are good if not very new.
Quality of rooms and gardens Very slow dinner service
Excellent. Beautiful surroundings- the gardens were lovely. Food was very good and service excellent. I left my bracelet in my room and the hotel sent it on immediately. I definitely recommend this hotel and we shall be returning. Earlier check in would be better- 3.30pm is a little bit late in the day to really get to enjoy all the facilities if you are staying one night.
Cosy, well presented, comfortable bed, and lovely bathroom. Nothing
Everything,lovely room,good facilities,excellent staff
Price, breakfast Bathroom is a little shabby
Wash basin covered in previous guests BEARD!!,beds to high and uncomfortable, waiting staff not organised, breakfast not adaquetely cooked,WOULD not recomend or stay AGAIN,very disapointing, definetely not value for money!!!.
Breakfast and large room
Thr bathroom was pretty nice...
Brillliant hotel/Inn at the price! Very cosy restaurant/pub.
took at least 15mins for anyone to arrive to register us in. in my sons bathroom was a used tampon. not impressed. breakfast was ok and staff were very friendly.
The only thing that was better than most other hotels was the choice of biscuits in the bedroom. Beds were narrow and the bedroom and bathroom were small. The walls were not soundproofed so that it was possible to hear everything that was going on in the next room. The location of the hotel was also noisy, which made sleeping difficult. The restaurant experience did not compensate for the poor room.
Reception did not answer the phone in the evening due to staff shortage. The general mananager was needing to double-up as a barman.
Very good breakfast. Even including Black pudding! Plus even though check in was supposed to be 3pm, was able to check in at 12:45pm - good job as the wedding I was going to was at 2pm!
Everything was the way it's described. Ideal for my stay Maybe a mini fridge to keep cool drinks/Air conditioning
staff very friendly bar was very exspensive and no atmosphere at all and the 'superior' room did nothing to warrant its name
Food available late - well I was late and therefore it was limited but to 11pm and then a few things after - sandwiches mainly. As the Anvil Concert Hall, where I was going is next to the shopping arcade I feel they think you have food but not so because the concerts do not begin until 745 and this was ended at 1030pm. By the time I reached the hotel some miles out, it was after 11pm. I was lucky in that I got a double room on booking because I was a late booker, also this was at a much lower rate that normal. Some of the things on the room service menu could have been offered all the time, I think this as what was available was. as far as cooking, heating, etc. just as simple to prepare. From the map it appears closed to town than it is. Had I stayed normally, the price would have been rather high, considering I did not need to use any of their spa, swimming pool facilities and the fact that, as I came by train and not car, it became more costly due to taxi fares (dearer here than London!). Not the hotel's fault but roadwork meant that it was an even longer journey round and about.
The room itself. The people are service / customer oriented and have excellent responses to customer queries.
The room The food - The dinner buffet looked like it had been there for hours and the meat of the day - lamb roast looked evn worse. I eat from the menu but not 100%
Room, staff and services
'Quiet and friendly' really meant what it said. We were there for a difficult hospital appointment, and nothing in our stay made the occasion more difficult. We felt cared for. We only had one pillow each, though extras were delivered speedily when requested.
Good hotel staff and service
The room itself was good and spacious, the bed was large and comfortable, and the location of the hotel was only 2 minutes from the relatives we came to visit. Minor points: Room was for two people but hospitality tray items were barely sufficient for one. We both like a bedtime chocolate - one sachet isn't good enough. I know one can ask for more but one shouldn't have to! Also toilet roll holder should be easily reachable from toilet and not where it will get dripped on from handbasin.
Convienient The room was dated and smelt musty. The lady receptionist when we left (checked out) was very rude, continued on the phone to room service although we were stood there for 5 minutes, didn't even acknowledge us!
The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable. The hotel was quiet even though we were on the first floor i expected some noise. It was nice and relaxing. The Receptionist needs to be re trained. The girl we had i could almost understand her english, therefore delaying my checking in process. I found her to be quite ignorant and she rarely answered the phone when ringing from my room. The price of drinks and food in the hotel is very expensive.
It is conveniently situated in walking distance from the town and near the business park There was an appreciable gap between the door to the room and the floor. This meant that noise from the corridor was disturbing
very comfortable room at a very reasonable price. Fast checkout very convenient. our room was upstairs, there was no lift so we had to carry our luggage up 2 flights of stairs
Everything about the hotel was good. The only thing I would say is that the heating seems to be turned up quite high! Nothing.
Excellent staff, fast check-in. Mistakes during check-out.
no fridge/minibar in room and bed was uncomfortable and cot was unclean
A spacious room; good beds; nice bathroom We could have done with a fridge in the room. Breakfast was not included in the room rate and was very expensive to pay for in addition - more than £10 for continental.
location, fitness center is ok old rooms, need refurbishing, balance quality versus price was not ok, to expensive for what you get
Very quiet - peaceful bar a few noisy guests at a party. Nothing - all was OK
A very nice hotel set in very well kept grounds. Friendly staff, extremely comfortable bed, clean room and a great experience all round.
Friendly staff , location The rooms in the courtyard suffered from very poor sound insulation ,I spent the night listening to next door's TV and then the other next door's snoring occupant. If the only rooms available were these ,I would stay somewhere else.Breakfast needs to start earlier at 6:30 as the location is remote.
Great Location - great rooms and fantastic Service
Staff were very pleasant, the building itself stunning. Room service very reasonable. Free wifi and room very clean and comfortable, actually great nights sleep. No
Superb setting. Beautiful grounds & a very interesting History. N/A
beautiful hotel, very clean food excellent grounds really good, good value bed matress abit soft
A wonderful historic atmosphere The tv was too small
Loved every second we were there None
Beautiful Grounds. Good food. Nice atmosphere None
Rooms were quiet, no interuptions from other guests
it was morden and affordable breakfast had no napkins and was not offered tea or coffee had to ask for it
Beautiful grounds and surroundings, excellent breakfast and coffee the coffee provided in the rooms ! we had to go out for one elsewhere! No facilities for meal or a bar drink.
Peace and quiet. Particularly noisy early am
Location handy for my needs. Very quiet - I was in the outlying Grange building. Couldn't get the internet working even with staff help. And from the Grange it's a long way in the rain to the main building where the food is!
Good location and value More fitness facilities, a gym would have been nice
The main hotel looked fabulous however we stayed in the lodge which wasn't particularly great. The room was basic which was fine however not particularly clean which was quite disappointing
The location and the hotel gardens
The late room check out on weekend was great. We had breakfast at 11:00am and finally left the hotel around 3pm. The room service meal we had on Friday evening was dreadful. It took 45 minutes to get the food and when we got it, it was cold and my sandwich was soggy. It had obviously been left standing around for ages. The food was also wet from where the drinks had been spilt when being carried to our room.
The attitude of the staff
Staff responses to problems.
convenient to all amenities in the town, reception staff friendly we stayed for 3 nights and the room was only cleaned once
Staff very friendly. very convenient for shops and theatre The breakfast. not enough food coming out only appeared in dribs & drabs so had to keep getting up. The scrambled egg was not only cold it tasted like powdered egg.
bedding old fashioned
All the staff we met, on reception, bar/restaurant and cleaning staff were all friendly and polite. Also, we came for the weekend to do all our Christmas shopping, so the location, right opposite the Festival Centre, was excellent for our purposes. If there was any criticism it would only be that the bathroom was a bit dated and the grout and fittings etc looked a bit shabby and old. It was very clean though.
Convenience to Basingstoke town centre
Nothing good to say about this Hotel it was not a memorable experience. I am going to write a letter of complaint. Hotel staff rude, and not welcoming apart from hotel manager. B/f service was poor and tables dirty. Room had no coffee or tea making facilites forcing you to order a drink from the bar. Room was shabby, ie bedroom curtains and shower curtains were falling down. Shower head was full of limescale and had not been maintained for sometime. Bed spreads and blankets were stained.......yuk!. Hair dryer broken. Meals available were poor and standard of food was poor for a resturant of three stars. Room service availability was poor ie phone was not answered. The Hotel was of a shabby standard all round and was extremely difficult to find in terms of Car Parking. Difficult to get answer from Hotel for directions as postcode on Website wrong.
The location was excellent as was the breakfast. Reception staff and bar staff very friendly Having upgraded the room, I was dissapointed that it was a lower standard than I would have expected, fairly basic, nothing special.
The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for me as I was visiting a sick friend in Basingstoke and they 'lifted my spirits' the atmosphere in general was good. The hotel was exceptionally handy to the railway station and the bus station and of course the shopping centre. The double glazed window was not sealed and the noise from people outside was a bit irritating, my room was over the front entrance. Traffic noise was also noticeable. The room was therefore a bit on the chilly side due to the window not closing properly and the heating did not appear to work. In general the hotel would need to be re-decorated, a lick of paint, just to take that 'worn' look off it. Though the rooms I must say were spotless.
Staff were friendly but lacked expertise and experience, okay for 1 or 2 night stop over but not really family friendly, not a lot to do at the hotel, had too get out and about to find fun and adventure for the children. We stayed a week and spent most of our time away from the hotel, probably wouldn't stay there again.
convenient location for our needs. very enjoyable breakfast.lovely setting.Shame we could not stay longer none
There was a desert spoon holding the shower head together in room 10
Friendly staff good food Very public areas
Nice quiet room, all the normal facilities. Good breakfast Cleaners were quite noisy in the morning, and knocked on door to see if they could clean the room instead of waiting until we had checked out.
staff very helpful when deficiencies pointed out. Cold shower due to limited capacity of boiler during upgrade,
It had a pleasant outlook onto a lawn area. It was easily accessible on the ground floor yet sufficiently secluded to be reasonably quiet. On arrival the room was oppressively hot and it proved difficult to moderate this except by the expedient of turning the radiator off altogether. There was a persistent ticking sound, possibly associated with the heating system, that was disturbing. Provision of net curtains for daytime privacy would have been appreciated.
The service and food in the restaurant were both excellent. The vegetarian options for the cooked breakfast were very poor (basically the full English but without the sausage, bacon etc.)
it was pretty good value for money if you need to be in the Fleet area
I have criticised the Lysmoyne previously. On this occasion they were excellent in the way they looked after my mother during this stay, No
Pool area Extortionate drinks prices.!
Comfortable bed. Very helpful and friendly staff
We were there for my daughters wedding which went off without a hitch thanks to the organisation of the hotel staff. The rooms, breakfast, leisure facilities added to make it a great time.
the breakfasts, the pool facilities although jazussi out of action when we were there
we had a very comfortable overnight stay at the hotel with an excellent breakfast, served by very efficient and polite staff. The arrival at reception was of the same quality. We will use the hotel again when visiting family who live in Chineham.
The quality of the room The reception. One the two occasions l visited (one on arrival), only one person was on the desk and on the phone for a good 5-10 minutes whislst l was waiting to be seen to. What if there was to be more than just l waiting?
Consistent service, comfortable rooms and good variety of food None
Pool, gym & tennis courts Restaurant was closed without prior warning. No refrigerator in room Bed sheets were rough enough to cause skin reddening. Small beds
Use of the leisure club is a real bonus No - its a good, comfortable business hotel
On the maps.google.com is reported wrong position of the hotel. On hotel web page is it ok, of course.
The hotel was in need of some TLC - looked a bit negelected
We were staying there for a wedding, for which the hotel was the perfect venue. Enjoyed everything.
The setting is fantastic and just a stones throw from Basingstoke My room overlooked the beer garden
convenience, quiet location
Excellent hotel with interesting history and comfortable facilities. The table d'hote evening meal was particularly good (especially as part of a dinner, bed & breakfast package). Understandably, a high priority was given to the wedding party which took most of the facilities and resources. The drink prices, including the wine list, were rather expensive - comparable to top London hotels.
Nice room, helpful staff, and a very pleasant environment. Drinks were very expensive, as was the room itself - detracting somewhat fromt he place as a wedding venue. Staff at breakfast seemed to not be on the ball - toast arrived as bread which had not been anywhere near a toaster, which struck me as a very bizarre mistake to make.
Lovely hotel, have great view, rooms are clean and comfortable, foods are great. You feel like you are at old times in this hotel. I wish I could only stay more.
Lovely Hotel, great room, nice robes, really smart grounds, great service from desk and restaurant. Cannot fault it. Recommend highly
the relaxing atmosphere. Even though there was a wedding on it did not disturb us at all. It would have been nicer to have had more time to enjoy all that was available.
The cleanliness and all the facilities in the room. also the lovely grounds. The staff at breakfast seemed un- organised.
The room was very good. clean and tidy and the touching finishes were very good. I would stay again We booked online and paid by credit card in my name, my husband booked in and the staff had no knowledge of our online payment so they took my husbands credit card details as well. We will need to wait for credit card statements to check which account has been charged.
Nice hotel, efficient service, comfortable room
The food was appalling. The produce was obviously bought on price and not quality. The quality of preparation and cooking was well below an acceptable level and the presentation, especially the breakfast buffet (fried eggs hardened from being left under hot lights, scrambled eggs that had a crust on them. a defective toasting machine and very poor quality coffee)
Convenience for where I was going. To get a taxi from the hotel was a joke. I ordered a taxi on Saturday night and I ended up waiting so long I walked to where I had to go. On Sunday morning, on my departure, the taxi was 40 minutes late. Not good enough!!!
Pleasant surroundings in a city setting, efficient staff, good seating area for a drink and a talk and the restaurant was pleasant with reasonable food. Last orders 9.30pm which is good for late arrivals. bed was very comfortable. Felt the prices were expensive. For the 2 of us our one night and a meal and drink came to over £300.
checking in nice and easy a bit pricey for a one night stay...
Staff very helpfull, in fact probably the best I have known. Room stale smell, door not closing & fan in bathroom not working. No heating, breakfast nearly cold.
room was nice. building was ugly and did not give a good 1st impression
Good staff, comfortable room.
