They were very accommodating and let us change rooms to get away from the wedding noise. Lots of weddings - and accompanying loud music!
Beautiful location and friendly staff. Only one small lift. Expect to wait.
leisure facilities were put in a famoly room with small double bed, decor needs some updating
We have been going to this hotel for over 25yrs & just love it it is so central for everything, touring shopping golf & walking so close to the historic town of Stirling. New decor slightly on the dark side in dining room.
The hotel was in a really good location, with superb grounds to enjoy. The leisure club was excellent and the staff were very helpful.
pleasant surroundings, helpful staff no
Excellent situation , with magnificent view.
Friendly relaxing atmosphere
A beautiful place and surroundings.Would definetly recommend to other friends and family to stay here. Only concern was, that the air con was not working correctly
used the full use of the hotel ,the swimming pool etc was first class no
The situation of the hotel. The helpfulness of the staff The food was not particularly impressive.
Staff professional/friendly and location setting is great.
All staff very friendly, hotel very clean, rooms cleaned every day to high standard, good choice at breakfast Only fault was that the double beds were very small so did not have very much room to move ,so did not sleep very well
was at a wedding ideal the hairdryer in room did not work I didn't have one with me
Peaceful surroundings. Very friendly & helpful staff even though two of my 3three days the hotel was busy with functions I got a good meal in the bar area and quick service. Compared to the rates I usually have to pay in Stirling this was value for money. It may not be in the centre of town but its very easy to get in by public transport if you want a night out and a taxi is not going to break the bank!! Why do hotels have to use "fussy" taps for bath/shower? S.M.C. are no exception and the one in room 214 took all of my strength (I am 6' and 15st) to alter the heat setting. Not great for a family!!
Pleasant atmosphere; comfortable room; friendly helpful staff. No tea or coffee facilities in the room. Room (and bed) clearly intended for a single occupant (only one bed light).
Very helpful friendly staff. The breakfast menu was excellent. I thought there was going to be a problem when we arrived - 6 rooms had been reserved instead of 3. I appreciate that there was a wedding reception but the bar service at 11pm was slow.
Friendly, helpful staff. Brilliant location with stunning views of countryside and Wallace Monument. First Class!
Clearly very handy if attending a conference at the Management Centre, but actually this would still be a great place to stay even if just visiting Stirling or the area for leisure. Food and service all brilliant. a clear commitment to green issues – more than lip service. Not really any bad points. The hot water for a bath in the evening was not quite as warm as I would have liked, though the shower in the morning was a very decent temperature. It could b that I needed to run the hot tap for longer, but that would have run counter to the environmentally friendly ethos of the place.
On the University of Stirling campus, so ideal for meetings with University management and faculty
The hotel is good for people using the management centre or the university, it is not a leisure hotel. the rooms are basic but fine. Some areas such as the bathroom would benefit from refurbishment / upgrading. Customer service could be improved.
Very often a long wait to be served at the bar as it was one of the waiters who kept coming through from the restaurant to serve drinks.
The food was good in the bar. The lobby is a little shabby as are some of the corridors but for the money I paid this is not unreasonable
Peaceful room, Friendly staff, Excellent breakfast.
everything was just fine.
Preis in Ordnung No Internet access in the room, no smoking rooms.
Comfortable and relaxed. Parking was a bit tough.
The Golden Lion is perfectly located 5 minutes from the train, and at the heart of Stirling. There was dozens of pubs, restaurants and shops to keep you entertained, the room and bathrooms were clean, and the staff were lovely and had no problems holding my bag until check-in time. I was even able to squeak into a top-floor room with an amazing view over Stirling and of the surrounding hill-side - spectacular! While the exterior and main floor are exquisite and inviting, the hotel rooms left a lot to be desired. The beds were comfortable enough, the bathroom was functional, however it is out-dated and has an off-colour that doesn't come out from years of use. Luckily it was big and spacious - a great break to stretch your legs after a busy day.
Location, price. Car park needs better signing, and information on how to get the barrier moved.
Location Trying to find the way up a one way street
Receptionist extremely helpful Very small room, was under the impression that there would be a bath. Evening meal very disappointing; ordered roast which was supposed to come with roast potatoes and was only told there were none left after it had arrived. Gravy very lumpy and meat very chewy. Only one large towel in room.
location room was small. generally looked a bit tired
The longe bar and playing chess but not the very expensive drinks and it cried out for a log/ burnes fire as not overly warm Not impressed at all. room was cold due to single glazing even with the heating on. the resturant menu is very limited in choice, we saw a some guests eating out, as we did. there was no hotel info in the room?? Breakfast was a little disorganised and felt rushed. we arrived around 8.30 and it is served until 10am. the waitress removed my partners plate before I had finished then hovered as I was on my last mouthful and removed the plate as I was still eating, very poor indeed.
Nice big room Choice at breakfast was poor compared to similarly priced hotels I have stayed at eg no potato scones, hash browns, no apparent veggie option
Was working so only used the bed and then only for 4 hours No
Freindly staff - nice atmosphere Room could have been a little larger - also unable to open window wide enough to get fresh air.
The location and friendly staff. The rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
swimming pool was clean with helfully staff the breakfast. mine breakfast was cold on all three days and the servise was slow you lucky to get your drink after you finish you breakfast with cold toast also it not cooked to order like it says on the breakfast menu.
The comfort of the hotel, its faclities and the staff made this a most enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, my wife was unable to have a spa treatment due to the majority of staff being away on training
Lovely breakfast and bed was very comfortable. Generally very dated, and a bit tired. Only paid £79 so not too expensive wouldn't pay more.
the location is great and the hotel is interesting because it is an old school.
Tired room needed decorating
the location was great for the park and ride in to stirling. the eating inn next door was excellent too.
Nice hotel could have been better Room smelling of smoke complained and nothing was done about it
Desk staff were helpful in finding a restaurant. The breakfast offered a variety of options. I wish there had been a separate sheet on the bed instead of just a duvet. I understand that this is typical of most UK and European hotels.
Lock on room did not work, staff acted quickly to solve problem Lock did not work, however we were moved to another room
convenience Walls between rooms were paper thin
Staff were brilliant, I had to stay extra night due to snow, staff had road closures all printed off for guests. Room clean, I put comfort down to good as I found the bed a bit hard but this may suit other people. breakfast included, great. as above, bed a little hard.
Staff were welcoming. Process for booking in and out was quick. Everything asked for was provided. On entering the room it was slightly cold. However after an hour it did warm up.
Excellent staff. I'd like the choice to have a cooked breakfast.
on the whole, a well run and clean hotel, staff pleasant and location of hotel excellent if you plan to visit surrounding areas.
We found the staff very pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast arrangements were roomy and the food was good.
Everything was first class - the come and go easy policy is so homely. The staff have time for you, and want to give you of the best in a totally unobtrusive way. The silence is palpable, and for anyone wanting to relax, it is simply perfect. The facilities are so good, they cannot be described - only experienced; if you want peace and quiet, along with good food. Nothing, except that the tap dripped!
Very relaxing No bar
quality of food; peaceful; excellent room; beautiful grounds
excellent service and helpful staff
The service was first class nothing was a bother to the staf I would liked to have been able to visit a bar for drinks where I could purchase draught beer
location , fantastic building
The food was good in quantity and quality. The reception was non-existent, even after using the designated bell and the designated emergency phone no. The reason for this was that the responsible member of staff was at a meeting. Unacceptable. The immediate surroundings of the hotel wewre well maintained - the grass ahd been cut. Outwith that the grounds were poorly maintained. The scrap metal was something outwith the realms of sculpture. The decor was past its sell by date and the hotel needed some investment. Small niggly things, like a leaking noisy tap, were unacceptable.
This is an excellent example of a country hotel. It is set in a large estate, so guests can enjoy a long entrance drive to the building! The interior and furnishings reflect a lost era, one we can only experience here and similar establishments. Our room was reasonably sized although lacking the massive bath experienced in an earlier visit. The hotel has a 5 course dinner available. The food is excellent. However, the price at £50 per head is steep. When coffee is an extra at £4, it appears that the proprietors are being greedy. As there is nowhere else nearby, especially considering that long entrance drive, what can you expect from a monopoly?
I liked the setting and peaceful atmosphere of the hotel. I did not like the room we were allocated, advertised as graciously comfortable. It was more suitable as a single room. Also had a few 'do's and don'ts which were a bit unacceptable.
good location and grounds no one at reception and failed to respond to room service.Apparently issues with the phones
The food was very well presented and very tasty There was no mirror in the bedroom area and not quite enough light at the bathroom mirror
The venison was out of this world - fantastic! The staff were also fun and friendly - had a super time in the bar! No hair dryers was unusual, however, must be common here as there isn't one at the Holiday Inn either!
Very attractive place to stay. Clean and comfortable.
Right from the hard working lovely staff to the shower, the whole castle was lovely. The room was in keeping with the surroundings and was very please to see a clean bathroom. The evening meal was well worth the money and would certainly go back again. The floor board were a bit squeaky but that cant be helped so was aware when walking over the floor.
The location at the foot of the Ochil hills was superb and handy for Stirling city centre. They need to pipe music into the bar area to break the silence.
Room was nice and clean. Location was terrible. Through traffic and lots of large truck deliveries, as well as other noise kept us awake and woke us up early. There was no remote for the room television and front desk could not locate us one and could not show us how to operate.
Elegantly restored house on quiet green, but just a very short walk from castle and cafes. Room was lovely, and our hostess was very gracious. A number of choices for breakfast. After being in tourist-central for a few days, it was relaxing to stay in a quiet residential area of historic homes.
A beautiful Victorian house, superbly decorated and presented, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The en-suite facilities were excellent and the public rooms (lounge and breakfast room) would be hard to better, even at a considerably higher price. Wonderful hospitality too, always attentive but never obtrusive, and the cooked breakfasts were a highlight of every morning. A perfect, welcoming base for exploring this lovely area, and one we simply cannot fault.
Nice modern Hotel in great location No hot water in the afternoon
my daughter in law had to halve her breakfast with her husband who had arrived at the last minute and the limited time for breakfast , all guests were at a wedding and could have done with a little bit more leeway , out for 10 is a disgrace ,
Friendly staff There had been a flood and the original en suite room booked was not available. We were give a double room with a separate private bathroom down the corridor, which was fine but I would have preferred the en suite.
The host was very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were clean and well furnished. Breakfast was excellent. If staying in the Callander area I would definitely recommend this hotel The room was quite small, little room to even put large suitcase on the floor
Nice and clean hotel with very pleasant staff The lighting in the room was not very bright
The friendly welcome, helpful staff and the lovely decor in the rooms and in the lounge / breakfast area. The breakfast was lovely too. The only issue I have is that there was a handheld shower in the bathroon which wasn't very convenient.
NIce friendly reception, very helpful with regards to where to eat out. excellent breakfast and fast and efficient service. Well done.
This is a family run hotel and the welcome we received was second to none. The hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The host was very forthcoming with information regarding places to eat and where to go in the area. Within walking distance to all amenities Would stay again if in the area. Private parking. I have no negative comments.
The hospitality of the staff was fantastic and the accomodation was perfect and comfortable. No separate shower for the ensuite room we had.
Beautiful hotel, clean rooms and good service. Lovely breakfast!
Hospitality and fantastic food Nothing.....Excellent stay
the room layout was good and the evening meal was nice didnt like the shower been low and no shower curtain, very basic breakfast, not informed what was on the breakfast before only got choice of what type of egg
We only stayed for one night but both myself & my wife loved this hotel because it appeared to have everything. Location, Comfort, Costs, Great Food & Drinks, Very Friendly Staff, and the general homeliness that the hotel generated which is something that one can't buy, it's either there or it isn't and this hotel had it all. Dislikes:- None whatsoever apart from having to leave and not booking for longer.
the room was cosy and nicely decorated. The food was excellent and the atmosphere in the bar made it a great place to sit and relax.
The location is lovely, the room was beautifully decorated and had access to a private area of decking where you could sit looking across countryside to Loch Lomond Finding complementary earplugs alongside the bed wasn't exactly conducive to a relaxed night.. apparently the rooms in the cottage we stayed in are known to be poorly insulated for sound. It would obviously be better if this were improved, rather than putting the onus upon the guests.
Food was excellent, staff very friendly.. The sound proofing in the rooms could be improved.
friendly atmosphere and good staff
Everything, but the food is the main joy. Excellent whatever you have from their varied menu,
the very efficient and friendly staff. the high quality of the rooms and the personal attention given to us.
The size of the room was decent and the bathroom very clean and a good size also. The bed was not very comfy.
The staff, food, comfort, position - in the city but on the edge of countryside It was a bit too hot, traffic noise (i'm a light sleeper!)
The room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. The food in the resturant was excellent. N/A
We had a lovely break and would definately come back No complaints at all
Good, no-nonsense food; special offers on Mon-Weds regarding pricing of wine, comfortable room. Good location for walk into Stirling to see castle etc. City-centre location means ambient noise from road and early-morning bin lorry activity
comfortable and welcoming, very enjoyable
Delightful hotel, central to town centre with attractive weekend rates.
Friendly efficient staff, relaxed atmosphere, cleanliness, wonderful food N/A
The cleanliness, the proximity to the city center and the railway station, the good breakfast.
The rooms were excellent - large, clean and comfortable. The staff were superb - very accomodating and helpful. We will definitely be visiting Stirling again and will stay at The Terraces Hotel.
myself and my daughter had a very pleasant stay lovely breakfast helpful staff pleasant room would definately stay again
staff very friendly at all times. Food good. Great central location yet quiet
Friendly staff The most important thing and the reason I stay in a Hotel is for a comfortable bed. Th bed in room 3 was the most uncomfotable bed I have slept in. Also I would like my own key when out late
the location to the town centre the road leading upto the hotel, was strange to locate due to the road lay out.
We both enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. We had a great 5 day break
From the minute we arrived the staff made us feel welcome, the customer service was outstanding
I don't like typical breakfast (beans, eggs etc...) no choices in morning menu
All the staff were quite efficient and friendly. The room had everything I needed. Very nice breakfast and everything was when and where I needed it. Great location, too, and a charming house to stay in.
Having no phone signal made it nice and peaceful. The food and dinning room staff were excellent. We were under the impression that there was free wifi. But on arrival found that there is not and we would have to pay a fee to bt online. But this would not stop us returning as we now know.
Great location, quality accommodation Corridors need decorating(minor issue)
The shower and the phone didn't work. We asked for help with the shower 3 times and nothing changed and we were not even offered a nominal sum off for hassle factor. The check in was appalling. We were sent to the wrong bar for our 'bar' meal and after ordering a bottle of wine and beer had to be moved to another building entirely.
The friendliness of the staff and their helpful attitude The hotel is looking a bit "tired" and could do with a makeover in places. Our room for instance was not what we would consider and "executive room". It sets itself out as a 4* luxury hotel but on first glance in some areas this is not what you see. This is in some ways related to the age of the building.
The Health and Fitness facilities and the location
The staff were friendly and extremely helpful The lack of mobile signal meant that one of our party had to use the hotel phone to contact her father who wasn hospital. The charges for using theis phone I felt were excessive, considering you had no choice due to lack of mobile signal.
The views were beautiful!! Food in both restaurants was lovely and the spa was so relaxing!! Spa treatments were a bit expensive.
Breakfast in bed at an extra cost of only £3. Newspapers delivered to your room in the morning. Nice staff. Lovely setting. The leisure facilities were very basic, as was the bistro.....cold and uninviting. Had to have dinner in our room with a limited choice of room service menu as we could not get a table in the restaurant for dinner. Book your table early!
Situation on Loch. The bedroom was nicely furnished if a little dated. Outlook over car park
The room was fantastic, good size and clean. Staff were very polite and friendly, were more than accomodating with the trecherous weather over that weekend. The only adverse comment would be the check in time. I believe 15.00 is too late a check in. I only stayed for the night and feel that by the time we checked in it did not allow much time before the weather faded to explore the glorious surroundings.
Lovely spacious room. Excellent breakfast served in very pleasant surroundings Lovely big bedroom with an unacceptable small double bed!
The comfortable room and the friendlyness of the owners
Pleasant bed- room and view Also a quiet area Arrived early 1.30 p.m.--note on door to say we could not be allowed in till 3 p.m.
Breakfast- good choices. I prefer to have smaller tables - eight to a table is a bit like a refectory! Bed mattresses need changing. They sag.
Excellent accomodation throughout, proprietors Ashley and Rae could not have been more friendly or efficient. Breakfast was again excellent. Clenliness of guest house was excellnt well worthy of 4 star allocation. None
Room was spacious, water hot and staff vey friendly and helpful.
Room was of a nice size, sky tv was good. Breakfast was varied and staff were nice. No bar
