Supplier choice pickup truck

The windshield wiper fluid had not been topped off. The resulting loss of the ability to clean the windshield of muddy spray due to recent rains created a safety issue when turning onto a street that had us looking into a setting sun. Filling the reservoir with 1.5L of water was insufficient to prime the pump. Another 1.5L of water was necessary to get the system working again. Quite inconvenient. Otherwise, our experience within the Budget staffs’ control was commendable.

Drop off a little inconvenient because of early flight and budget not open but they do offer a pre drop off inspection the evening before. Next morning drop keys in drop box.

Pros:

Staff was helpful when the car we rented broke down.

Cons:

The 1st vehicle was in poor condition, not very well maintained and had mechanical issues. The windshield wipers did not work correctly and made visibility difficult in the rain during rainy season. 1st vehicle broke down and was unable to start for half an hour. They did work to swap out that vehicle. The second one was marginally better however similar make and model and outside of the vehicle was a mess dents dings and scratches galore. They warned me that I needed to buy the insurance however the vehicle could not have been worth more than the cost for the insurance. Additionally the insurance offered does not cover you if you violate any traffic laws, meaning if the accident was your fault. So if someone runs into you their insurance should stand to cover you, if you run into someone you are uninsured. Some offering you got there. I declined the insurance as was forced to sign that I understood I would have the pay. The scare tactic is a bit over the top. My CC has a policy attached so I was not concerned. Only trucks they had were diesel, however the gas station (only one in main city) did not have diesel the entire week we were there. So they gouged us in the end for the gas fill up. Overall there are better vehicles available and I would pay a little more for a better experience next time.

Office staff could be more welcoming but overall we had a good experience. Car was clean and in good condition unlike some from other rental companies on the island. It was nice that they provided a scuba tank holder for us at no charge.

Good vehicles, available directly from the airport. It takes a long time at check-in, plan 15-20 minutes per person renting a car so it could be an hour or 2 to get through the line. They are very particular about sand, driving locations and potential risks so read the wavers. I ended up with a great vehicle for what I needed (upgraded at the counter) and it did well my entire trip.

As we came to the rental desk and wanted the detailed price info, we were not treated very polite, it seemed that they wanted to rent the car very quickly. The lady at the desk was quite impatient and said the car was fine. we first didn't want to sign the confirmation that all is ok and wanted to check the car first. As we saw the car there were a lot of scratches and other stuff that were not ok. We asked the lady to come outside and note down everything. Only then we signed the contract. Be careful and check the car before. The streets in Bonaire are not good.
