The area is popular for skiing, and ski equipment hire is available at Volcano Eco Treehouse.
Pros: This place was amazing. It was unique, cultural, and just wonderful. Not only do you stay with the family, but they also act as guides and spend lots of time exploring the area with you and telling you about their culture and lifestyles. I really loved my experience here and I can't stop talking about it. This isn't a party place. The pace of life is slower here. I went to bed at practically 7pm every night! So don't come expecting to do tons of activities every day and party all night. It's more of a walk to one activity per day sort of place, but the distances are long and it makes each place you visit feel more special. Also note that to visit some things you will be required to do a lot of walking. That was something I loved about it...it felt like hiking all the time, but if you have mobility issues you may not be able to access some of the tourist things outside of the village. Of course you can get a driver but gas and taxis are expensive in Tanna. Lastly, because I personally messed this up a bit, but if you want to see the blue cave note that it is closer to the airport, so it may be better to try to do that BEFORE arriving at the treehouse, or sneak it in before you depart from Tanna. Otherwise you will have to pay for another full round trip taxi which is not cheap. If I remember correctly there's a tour that you take at 9am.
Cons: I don't like bugs but they weren't so bad and honestly that's normal when you're deep in the jungle! Also it got a bit chilly some nights when I was there (June) so don't forget something a bit warmer to wear to bed.
Pros: Kindness of John, his family and the community. They took care of us at all time. Experience in the middle of the beautiful, green land. Bath in the river is possible, it was amazing to go there with the children. thank you. Good meals.
Cons: Nice tree caban, maybe need some refresh so dusts don't fall from the roof
Pros: Great place to stay in Tanna! Lovely people! John and his family are amazing. They helped me a lot. The breakfast is so good! Lunch and dinner also very good. The tree house is cool!!! I am Brazilian and John was happy to have a Brazilian as a guest for the first time.
Pros: The tree house was a great experience. It’s close enough to walk to the volcano entrance, however with no road signs on the way, it’s important to have someone go with you. It was interesting hearing about cyclone Pat and this business is a way of helping support the village. The kumala pancakes were tasty!
Cons: An outdoor sitting area where we could read a book and look at the surroundings and relax would be great.
Pros: Family was extremely accommodating and the homemade local food was delicious and abundant. John was able to organise many trips for us so that we could experience the local culture and sights.
Pros: John’s family and the views to the volcano
Cons: You need a car for pretty much everything (and to pay for it)
Pros: I could see the volcano from my treehouse, it’s incredible. The staffs are too nice, especially Lerina, we have become best friends with each other!
Cons: There are quite a lot insects, but that’s totally understandable for me. If you want to live in the deep jungle, you will have to deal with it.
Pros: Warmest, most helpful hosts imaginable. The tree house with the view of the volcano was magical. Wish we could have stayed forever!
When you stay at Rockwater Resort in Tanna Island, you'll be near the beach and 13 minutes by car from Lowanatom Church. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available 24 hours).
Pros: Gorgeous rooms. Great deep rock pool to swim in while waiting for the pool to be complete. Just as good. Relaxing. Out of the way. Awesome view. Silvana, one of the owners, was super helpful and tried to change our flighs for us. Absolutely delicious food.
Cons: Having to leave.
Pros: It's a wonderful place and the hosts are so kind and nice! Love to stay longer~~ Making our experience unforgettable!
Pros: Interesting design, very well trained staff, good snorkeling and owners full of info on activity options.
Cons: Rooms were a bit too dimly lit. However, The owner told us that he was trying to buy shades for table lights which would be next to the bed.
Pros: Everything Amazing owners
Pros: After a rough 15 min ride from the Tanna airport you arrive at this excellent location, magnificent ocean views and tranquility, garden and room setup with a special focus for details, excellent food and wine selection, friendly staff and the 2 owners John and Silvana, who give this location a very personal touch, unlike other big resorts. If I ever come back to Tanna I definitely would stay there again.
Pros: Staff, owners, location and facilities
Pros: Rockwater is a completely unique experience. It is the ONLY place to stay on Tanna! The room was amazing as were the staff. You must stay here!
Pros: Owners and staff went out if there way to please. Consistently excellent food choices and quality. Top resort on the island. Great house reef with large variety of fish and coral just offshore.
Cons: Everything was great.
Pros: The reef is phenomenal. Best we found in Vanuatu. The place , built into the coral cliffs is unique, and fun. Rooms are beautiful modern and interesting,
Cons: Can only get out onto the reef at high tide one 3 hour time frame per day. The road from the airport to the resort is dirt and in very bad shape. The tours are expensive but that is not unique to this hotel.
With a stay at Friendly Beach in Tanna Island, you'll be on the waterfront, just steps from Friendly Beach and a 4-minute drive from Sulphur Bay. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request).
Pros: The family that manages the place are the nicest people. The place is very basic but really charming. It’s your chance to truly meet the locals. The food was also great: local & organic. The location is great, close to the volcano and the villages, and right on the beach. No light pollution so the night sky is just breathtaking.
Cons: It’s quite basic, so don’t expect luxury. Electricity only runs in the evenings, but that’s part of the charm!
Pros: Unbelievable location and incredibly friendly, welcoming staff. The food was amazing, healthy and delicious. They employ the local villagers to serve and cook the meals which is great. Beautiful bungalow right on the beach and great to get away from it all - no internet or cell service. Perfect location for going to see the volcano. Very relaxing holiday.
Cons: Given there is no electricity at night and you need to sleep under mosquito nets, it was very hot for sleeping and we didn't sleep very well. There were a lot of ants in the bungalow, and while they don't bite, having hundreds of ants crawling on my mosquito net at night was a bit unsettling. Also no housekeeping service for the 2 nights we were there. Would have been nice to have the room made up.
Pros: Everything. Food, scenery, staff were all amazing and also liked the geckos
Cons: Nothing really. Worth the expense for a once in a lifetime experience
Pros: Staff very kindly and helpfull. Gogos local food.
Cons: À little expensive.
Pros: Let’s be frank you must love to be so close to the nature to love friendly beach. If you are looking for city confort that is the worst place to go. Now let’s go ahead. They come to pick you up at the airport and the road is more than one hour from west Tanna (airport) ti friendly beach (east). You will travel with a pick up partially on road and mostly in the jungle and confort is zero while the sight is amazing (villages, people smiling and always greet you). Once you in the resort finally you can access to the wonderful villa made by wood (pictures are well done), floor of the bathroom is by corals and the villa is super beautiful built by the village people (3 villages around) after the cyclon in 2015 (Evelyn can show you the pictures of the disaster happened in 2015). There is power through a generator only from 4 pm to 9 pm and couple of hours in the morning so be aware that you go back to the original cycle of life (sunrise /sunset) and this is wonderful. Food is not abundant and their breakfast/lunch and dinner are cooked by village people not trained but ... it is tasteful and super good! Raw material from their ground and farm and bread made everyday (you can see them cooking!). The beach is wonderful and there are kids and fishermen from the village. All of them are not coming to you and they are very careful to not disturb while if you go to interact with them they are happy and smiling and they try to comunicate and reply. We had 2 day tour organized by them and Evelyn: the Vulcan Mt Yasur (at today one of the best experience in my life with nature a must do it activity) and the port resulution and cannibal site tour. It is all very expensive (the tour and the hotel itself) but I don’t think they got much for them as the cost are for sure high (fuel, distance, etc). Then Evelyn, what to say. Whatever you might need ask to her, she will come, smiling and find solutions, options, help, explaination. Really what I consider caring the clients.
Cons: Leaving from the resort, we will miss this corner of paradise
Pros: Super friendly hosts and staff. very authentic, beautiful and natural environment.
Pros: The food was wholesome and delicious - fresh, local produce and a different dish for every meal. The staff were super friendly and we were made to feel right at home. The accommodation was comfortable whilst being in the traditional style. The volcano tour is a must - absolutely spectacular!

Pros: Food was great!
Pros: This place ie amazing! Highly recommend it if you are going to Tanna and want to experience a bit of luxury, I did the 3 hours couple massage and facial, it exceeded my expectations Would go back for sure
Cons: Everything was perfect!
Pros: Lovely staff & owners great access to all that Tanna has to offer -reefs and Mt Yasur. Beautiful little huts and common area. Highly reccomended staying here.
Cons: Hut needed a mosquito net.
Pros: 5 min from the airport and free pick up Nice view Spacious room Friendly and helpful staff at the front desk
Cons: There are only 2 hair dryers in the entire resort. I found it awake for a tropical resort like Whitegrass Terrible internet connection. You have to type in user ID and password every single time that you try to use WiFi Avoid the Combo tour! It is totally overpriced. The volcano tour was excellent though The staff that worked at the restaurant were unfriendly and impatient
Pros: Fabulous staff, as soon as you walk in it feels like a paradise. Easy enough to organise any tours. Plenty of sunbaking spots. Pool smaller, if you want to get some laps in but big enough to cool you down. Breakfast, lunch and dinner delicious. Fantastic views!
Located in Tanna Island, Yasur View Bungalows is on the riverwalk and within the vicinity of Mt. Yasur and Sulphur Bay. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a library. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Absolutely the best location to see Mt Yasur! The view from our balcony was amazing, we stared at the red glow of the volcano every night. We loved walking across the sand plains to John Froom village for a swim and hot springs and also enjoyed seeing big baynan tree. Mike, Lena and family are fantastic hosts and took care of us really well. We travelled with 7 and 10 year olds, who played with and got to know the kids of the family.
Pros: Mike the owner will make you feel very welcome, if you are after quiet and isolation this is the best spot with a great view of the volcano. The bungalow was strong and clean and you can hear the volcano rumble all the time
Pros: Location and experience of bungalow in "rough countryside"
Cons: The lighting/electricity supply was erratic. My room light never worked.
Pros: The garden surrounds were lovely. The view of the volcano especially at night was beautiful. Breakfast was good.
Cons: The bungalow had gaping holes which let in freezing cold air at night, rats and spiders.
Pros: If you are the outdoors traveling type need or require minimal facilities and minimal amenities then this is a great place. If you require any niceties then I don't recommend it. I personally enjoyed it for the simplicity and peaceful tranquility and the views.
Pros: Location great view of the volcano from the balcony. Isolated so feel you are in the jungle of Tanna
Cons: Reliance on mike for excursions if you don’t want to walk which can be costly
Pros: It was an unforgettable journey and the host and his family is nice and helpful. My daughter loves the kittens and the dog and had a great time there. We stayed in the treehouse which is very basic and the toilet is still under construction. Pretty windy at the night. But the view of Volcano is amazing and the stay over a treetop is unique.
Pros: Family owned and run- true village lifestyle very old culture and the location was mind blowing
Cons: The family are continually developing there establishments and this needs to be understood. Do not expect 1st world style
When you stay at Tanna Evergreen Resort & Tours in Tanna Island, you'll be on the beach and 10 minutes by car from Lowanatom Church. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available 24 hours).
Pros: Great location right on the reef, and not far from the airport. They offer free transfers to/from the airport as well. The cabin is what I expected, with a shared bathroom between 2 cabins.
Cons: They take school groups, which makes the place noisy, especially as the accommodation is close to the common areas. I had to ask the Christian school group to wrap it up at some stage. At breakfast they were up early again, and I was too late to get any of the buffet. Staff wasn't able to keep up with replenishing food.
Pros: Lovely outlook
Cons: Property in need of a spruce up - tired and family room very small. Expensive for what it offered.
Pros: Location was quiet and beautiful. Good range of day tours
Cons: Food was very expensive and not worth the money at all. Great pool but no sun loungers or place to relax. Terrible massage.
Pros: Great location of the property in relation to the airport! Only 5 minutes! Accomodation wasn’t flash but comfortable. Resort was beautiful with coral walls and amazing lighting at night. Easy access to the most amazing coral and amazing blue water just in front of resort. Well organised tours to volcano and blue cave which I highly recommend. Especially the Ultimate Volcano Tour! A highlight other the Volcano itself was the Cannibal Village! Very expansive menu.
Cons: With the expansive menu some things tended to not be available or had run out of. I realise with a small island and not always having access to a big supermarket things aren’t always available. My recommendation would be make the menu smaller with less options then just concentrate well on those options.
Pros: All the food was very good. The pool was delightful. The office staff very efficient. The tours well managed.
Cons: The beer wasn't cold enough. The Cappuccino very not hot enough. The bed was too narrow. The waitresses were slow. When they ran out of packaged butter for toast at breakfast, we were told there was no butter. I had to ask the waitress to get me some butter from the kitchen on a plate. I think the waitress should have offered that without me asking.
Cons: There is hot water in our room in the evening and no one can fix this issue.
Pros: Beautiful location. The reef is incredible Great tours, although a bit expensive for the value
Cons: Bathroom way too small in the garden bungalows. Service is not what you would expect (e.g. no cutlery at dinner, menus are out of date - 20 wines, but only few available, no pickup at airport while we had multiple mails to confirm this). You basically need to ask everything yourself
Situated in Ireupuow, Tanna Dream Bungalow has a restaurant, a bar and a garden. The accommodation features a shared kitchen, a tour desk and ticket service for guests. At the inn, the rooms include a patio with a lake view. Guests at Tanna Dream Bungalow will be able to enjoy activities in and around Ireupuow, like hiking.
Pros: The food was plenty and Nancy made a very delicious coconut jam! The location is just perfect! At night you could see the light of the volcano behind the trees! We enjoyed going with the family to church on Sunday, such an authentic experience! The location is just perfect, only a short walk to Black Sand Beach and the Hot Spring and a little bit further was a really nice village and Whites Beach. Great for snorkelling! :)
Cons: The shower could have had a bit more water pressure.
Pros: We had an amazing time at Tanna Dream bungalow. We traveled with our 2 kids, young adults 19 and 14 years old, and they loved it. Dream bungalow is very well placed not far from the Volcano, the Hot springs and close to White Beach in Port Resolution with amazing views on the valley, the mountains and lights from the Volcano at night! It will take you 2.5h drive from the airport to arrive there, Sam will pick you up at the airport and drive you on a bumpy road to the bungalows, driving through the ash plain ... Kids at the back of the pick up, the adventure can start ! Of course comfort is basic as you will only get water and electricity 2 hours a day, there is no shop in Port resolution but the bungalows, toilets, showers...are very clean. Nancy will cook diner and breakfast for all and you will enjoy spending some time with the family. They will show you where to go during the day, Sam drove us back to the amazing ash plain to take some photos and ...you will just relax ! Sam and Nancy are great hosts but remember to bring cash, there is no ATM on this side of the island ! Enjoy
