Loved the location! Loved the excellent free coffe! Loved how kind, attentive and helpful all the staff were! Loved the free water !! Loved the elegance of the room!
The bed had a down comforter which got a but hot. By the bed there was a piece of furniture that my friend bumped his head on when he was in bed, room 205. There were not enough towels I the room so I kept having to call for more towels. I think I left a bathrobe in the room and I keep calling about it. So far it has not been located.
Stay away from low floors of street side noisy throughout night blinds did not close and lights stayed on. Disaster
Location is excellent. Coffee Lounge is a nice touch as well as free coffee in the morning. Rooms are quite small, and temperature control is not adequate... either too cool or too hot. Also 2 small elevators are not sufficient for the traffic. As this is a landmark hotel, elevator capacity cannot be corrected.
The Algonquin has a great location on 44th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. It is a few minutes walk from Times Square but in a quiet street. The lobby and lounge is very attractvie with wood panelled walls. We had a deluxe room on the 10th floor with a gigantic king sized bed, although the room itself wasnt particularly big. The gym was very well equipped and air comditioned. The hotel has character from the wallpaper showing cartoons from the New York Times to the in-house cat.
The business centre only consists of one PC and printer which is chargeable by the minute/page. Having said that, it was never in use when I needed it and I was able to print my boarding card for an onward flight easily. The rooms are not particularly large.
The vibe is just right: every single person--desk, bell person, housekeeper--was extremely polite and considerate without being obsequious. The intellectual history of the hotel obviously is still regarded as important. Room (deluxe queen) was elegantly set up and very clean. Room size was comfortable, by New York standards (meaning most are very small).
The room itself, although quite small, was clean. The bed was extremely comfortable.
A particular woman at the front desk wasn't very plesant or professional upon our arrival when it was determined that they lost our reservation. Nor was she helpful and respectful when we tried to resolve a billing error made by them. Unfortunately, one week later, I am still trying to get my money back from this hotel.
Efficient accurate checkout. Nice atmosphere. Comfortable bed.
Malfunctioning key system. Nonfunctioning controls for temperature of room.
Comfortable- Excellent customer service- all staff is very customer-focused and the accommodations are very comfortable. The only issue was with the key cards for room entry- did not work for the bell hop that escorted me up initially and were rekeyed, the did not work for me when I returned from dinner later that evening. The front desk explained that there have been some problems with the new system.
Very atmospheric. Lots of history. Cozy nice wine bar
Location was perfect for our needs; the hotel's history is fascinating.
The construction taking place behind the hotel involved nonstop noise--- like jackhammering but worse because of the huge excavating equipment--- from 7 A.M. to 6 P.M. during the work week. We were told we were "upgraded" to a queen room upon arrival and then informed about the construction. Thank goodness I had brought earplugs! While I realize the Algonquin has no control over nearby construction, I do think they should inform guests earlier or reduce the rate for guests staying on the backside of the hotel. The noise was deafening---even the porter warned us when he took our bags to the room, saying the noise was really bad. I loved the hotel except for this terrible noise.
Excellent location, close to Times Square but quiet, twin bed room size ok for New York, very friendly staff, newly renovated bathroom, beautifully styled and very lively lobby frequented by natives
Friendly staff, comfortable bed, good food, very pleasant atmosphere of lounge/dining area
Room opened straight on to the corridor (no entrance hall with bathroom/wardrobes as in many hotel rooms)
It is a hotel where guests are treated like royalty. Staff very courteous and friendly, rooms immaculate and very comfortable, hotel very accomodating. Lobby is wonderful, cozy with armchairs and drink and food service...great hotel.
I've stayed at the Algonquin many times, and have never found anything unlikeable about it. Now that all the rooms have been rennovated it's even better.
