Very nice hotel in the centre for everything.
Bed far too small for a couple.
Location is great
Windows don’t open very much. During a heat wave, no AC is an inconvenience, table fan is the only assist.
Comfortable and friendly, location couldn't be better.
The breakfast was excellent, a wide variety of choices and all the staff from the owner, his wife down to the employees were very friendly and helpful.
The whole area of the walled city looks old but in fact was rebuilt after the 2nd world war when St. Malo was extensively damaged. So the design of this building as an hotel could have been more reflective of modern tastes. The decor is quirky which results in the overall lighting being not really adequate. The bathroom was rather dark and basic and we had problems with the hand basin which wouldn’t hold water sufficiently long enough for my partner to shave. Although he tried the owner was unable to rectify the problem while we were there. The bath was not quite full size but the shower screen was which resulted in a smaller space available to get into the over bath shower. This meant you having to stand on the sloping back end of the bath which was slippery and therefore dangerous. Neither of us are abnormally large but I slipped and fell being the second to shower and bruised my right upper leg. A grab rail would seem to be an absolute necessity as a minimum. We also found the corridors dark although the automatic lighting functioned well and the lift really was too small for a hotel with five floors. The ventilation in the bedroom was inadequate to meet the very high temperatures that were experienced during our stay. The owner had helpfully put in an electric fan but the windows were not able to be opened very much due to safety concerns I imagine. As it is a know fact that heat rises which with high temperatures is not the fault of the owner, there is an urgent need for air conditioning if future temperatures are going to climb due to climate change.
We stayed in a family suite with our 2 year old, which meant we had 2 rooms which both connected to our own corridor. This was perfect, she loved her room and the cot that they put up for us and meant we could stay up in our room once she went to bed, like having our own little apartment. We also had a bath in one of the rooms and a shower in the other. The owners were so lovely and nothing was too much trouble.
