Everything about the inside of the hotel
fixed up nice
The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. They have a 24hr resturaunt, and it is fixed up real well inside.
It is old and the rooms are small, plus old elevators.
Good location for price
This hotel was located in Gaslamp District, which made it easy to walk around and explore the area. I parked at the lot next door, $30 for overnight parking which was a lot better than the $35 valet at the hotel. Overall, the staff was friendly and welcoming. The elevator is a bit tricky if you have luggage or bags to hold.
Valet parking for the hotel costs $35 a night but you have no idea if they park it in a safe location. Most of the guests that were there complained of the valet taking too long to bring up their car, about 30-45 minutes if they’re busy or if the valet guy is on break.
Ghetto and a tired hotel
It was clean room.
1 elevator was so broke. The other ran so slow continuous guest avoided using it period. I had to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get to my room multiple times daily. The shower didn’t drain well which causes simple showers to become standing water problem. The room was exceptionally small, I had one window which I tried to open the blinds to let more light in and the windows haven’t been cleaned in what seemed weeks or months. So I then avoided outside light and focused my attention to the tv and wall unit AC unit. TV needed to be serviced so it would work while I was out of the room. AC worked fine. All in all for the money it was a place to lay my head barley. I would have gladly paid an extra 25 dollars a night for a hotel barley a block away. Disappointed.
Location and staff are amazing.
The buidling is too old. The elevator is musuem worthy. While riding the elevator, i feel like i am breathing the air and dust from the last 100 years. I have had severe allergies while at the hotel, if you are allergies prone please watch out.
The hotel is downtown which means access to great restaurants and bars, all within walking distance. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There’s a rooftop with a decent view.
The bathroom is way small and cramped, didn’t feel very clean, and the sink mirror was to the side of the sink, not in front of the sink. The sink was very tiny with no counter top space. Shower was very small.
Great OLD hotel
Value for the area. Your are in the middle of everything. And just in case you stay out to late next door is a 24 hour restaurant with great food at reasonable prices.
Rooms are small and you have to get over the fact that the the place is not dirty it just very old. Elevator is the original...very very slow
Good location for a visit that includes lots of food and drinks. The hotel was built in like, 1912 and has a lot of features from that time so it's sort of neat. Bed was really comfortable. There is a roof deck that you can use with great views of the city.
The hotel is showing its age in many places- one of the two elevators was not working, lots of wood trim needs to be replaced, general age-related issues. The staff that was working at night all seemed like they might be high (for real- not like they were just spacey, like I honestly think they were high).
in town for a conference
Charming and old. If you don't like old, you won't like it. I liked that Brian's restaurant is right next door and 24 hours. Staff at both the hotel and Brian's were super nice and attentive.
Staff is great. Location is pretty good. Otherwise, this hotel is a terrible deal for the price. I could have stayed at a better hotel for only $25 more, and the forced valet parking here costs just as much. Bathroom, and the shower in particular, is tiny. Don't get me wrong: it's a perfectly serviceable hotel. It's the kind of place I'd happily go to save money...except that it costs nearly as much as it's much higher quality neighbours. You can get a larger room with more amenities, or a rustic bnb if you're looking for old school charm, for almost the same price, and the few extra dollars would be worth it.
Good location , too small rooms
The location is perfect, it's in the heart of San Diego downtown.
The room size is pretty small, you don't even have much place left outside of the bed. Even bathroom isn't that comfortable.
Small cozy havana style room
Beds where great, small room but comfortable with all amenities, location is perfect to go out and party or a simple out in the town. Bike rental across the street perfect.
It was perfect for the price....
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The airport shuttle service is convenient. The hotel is located close to shopping and restaurants and is a good value for the location.
The hotel is in an older building and there are quirks that come with that. I didn't mind, but some people may not enjoy, for example, the charming but older elevators (slow, hard to negotiate with luggage, etc.)
Hotel staff was available and helpful. Room was clean but tight for space. Adequate for one person but cramped for two.
Hotel is a mile away from convention center and not on a convenient public transpsort ion case of rain. The elevator doors are a bit of a hazzard.
location was great. staff were courteous.very good experience.
The roof top terrace, Although the room had 2 beds the space around the beds was very small, although it would have given more privacy if required. The on site resteraunt served a wonderful breakfast
The space of the room being divided into 2 distinct ares as I booked a room with 2 beds to give more space not for the use of 2 beds
The price and location, the hotel is nice but the room a litle small. inside room, so there were no noise, that is a good thing
the staff was nice but could be better, the TV an the AC are old
The old style with modern amenities. Oldy worldly style. Graet roof terrace
Shape of room was odd. Windows faced walls but if youre travelling for fun and sightseeing this doesnt have an impact.
We liked the location of the hotel in the center of the Gaslamp District
The noise from the surrounding airconditioners was insufferable. The hotel staff gave us another room facing the street in the middle of the first night. That room was o.k. then.
convient to ballpark. good location and interesting neighboorhood.
I thought the ambiance was lovely. It felt just like what I imagine 1930's San Diego was like. I was really so pleased to stay.
No. It was charming.
Excellent location if you´re looking for place close to bars, pubs... Excellent staff. Nice wiev at nite from the top roof
The location on weekends does not allow you to sleep, too noisy.
