Japanese influence and hip interior make for a charming and characteristic ambiance at Japantown's Hotel Kabuki, a Joie de Vivre. The stylish boutique hotel underwent a $30 million renovation in 2018 and now attracts a mix of leisure and business travelers with its trendy spaces and loft-feel.

Away from the crowds in the heart of Japantown, Hotel Kabuki is right next to Japan Center, a shopping area with a variety of inexpensive restaurants, a Kinokuniya Bookstore, and shops with Japanese antiques, bonsai trees, and more. The popular Fillmore District is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The boutique hotel is positioned in a great location for accessing many of San Francisco’s major attractions such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Haight-Ashbury.

Accommodations are small but stylish and make efficient use of the space. Natural light pouring through floor-to-ceiling windows make the rooms appear larger and some feature private balconies for extended views. Rooms are well-equipped with all the modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi, 55-inch flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, electronic safes, and Bluetooth-enabled alarm clocks. Sleek, modern bathrooms have wet room-style rainfall showers and include hair dryers and bathrobes.

Hotel Kabuki, a Joie de Vivre offers an impressive set of amenities and features that are common for relaxation. The inviting lobby is design-savvy and features a bar with Japanese-inspired dishes and cocktails. Additionally, there is a Zen garden with koi pond and a fire pit, an impressive 24-hour fitness room, yoga studio offering free classes.

Situated conveniently beside the Japan Center, access to major attractions in San Francisco, and a pet-friendly policy makes this hip hotel an experience, not just a visit.

10.0 Wonderful
Pros:I liked that it was really close to everything, we walked everywhere and got to see everything we wanted so that was really convenient.
Cons:They had construction going on, yes they did stop at 5pm but it would have been since with out the noise.
7.7 Good
Pros:- Quiet location - Deep tub - Free wi-fi
8.0 Very good
Pros:The Japanese decor is calming. Nice neighborhood, walking distance to nice restaurants.
Cons:Room is oddly designed. TV not easily viewed from bed. And the bathroom is not typical -- I think it has a Japanese influence so perhaps it is a comforting design for those familiar with Japan, but for others it seems strange. A deep thin tub with shower, no shower curtain, then the sink in a middle area that has wall to wall carpeting, and then the toilet in another room that you have to step up and over to enter.
3.7 Poor
Pros:Beds are comfortable and is in a good location.
Cons:Under renovation, the AC wasn't working so we had to sleep with the door open, which is loud outside
8.5 Very good
Pros:We liked the friendly staff. Rooms were clean and comfortable. I would definitely come back and stay with my family .
10.0 Wonderful
Pros:- Very pleasant check-in experience - Attractive lobby - Attractive rooms - Nice area of town - Decent rates
Cons:- Exercise room is about what you'd expect from a hotel - Free WiFi is slow, urges you to "upgrade" for a fee
5.7 Fair
Pros:Atmosphere, Location. A/C is perfectly setup. Great Shower/Bathroom combo
Cons:Room next to the ice machine and elevators was rather loud. Pillows felt used and hard. Bed was not comfortable.
9.1 Wonderful
Pros:bar and restaurant were closed
Cons:rooms were nice
7.7 Good
Pros:The staff were the most friendly and helpful of most of the hotels I've expetienced. We stayed there due to a close relative being in Cal Pacific Medical Center unexpectedaly from out of the area. They were so accommodating and extended our stay when complications arised. The restaurant was great and we loved Bill the bartender. We never felt like we were not welcome. The shuttle to the hospital was invaluable and saved us money in extra parking fees. I would not hesitate to stay here again under similar circumstances. We also enjoyed the restaurants in Japan town. They were wonderful.
Cons:The only thing we didn't like was the road noise in the room. Our home is in an area that u Is extremely quiet so we are not used to city noises. Mew have traveled extensively and stayed in noisy cities where hotels are much quieter. I must say we are more sensitive to noise so take that into account. We would stay there again if we needed too.
7.0 Good
Pros:Location, & staff.
Cons:Carpet in my room smelled.
