The restaurant food was very poor. Bar food not much better.
Great value for money.
The beauty of the surrounding countryside and the magnificence of the hotel itself.
Elegant calm atmosphere; welcoming helpful staff. Really an oasis of tranquility.
The decoration of the rooms downstairs and the hall ways the room was very small end badly apointed
The overal immpression initially was good. The food was very acceptable although the evening meal menu was rather limited. The beds!! although the mattress in the first room I used looked fairly new it was poor quality with little comfort offered. After complaining in the morning nothing changed so coplained again was moved to another room which had a marginally better mattress.
Beautiful location and grounds. Stunning main building but not all the accomocation is available in the main building. The hotel is not really set up to cater for individuals visting. It is more of a conference centre. The evening meal was a buffet style with 3 choices and based on what the wedding party next door were having! The ambience of the restaurant was more canteen than restaurant. Having said this, if you asked staff for anything, they were happy to provide it.
Pleasant setting with an impressive approach The room was too condensed
Stunning building with wonderful grounds and great breakfast and updated room. Nothing
Location Very average breakfast and room for the price
It was a lovely hotel, situated in a beautiful location. It was comfortable, warm and welcoming. Room 4: I could not work out how some of the lights were supposed to work over the desk. We were staying only the one night, so it was of no great importance to us.
Very comfortable bed and spacious room. Great breakfast. Depressing inside. Bad feng shui.
Quiet and comfort
We particularly liked the jacuzzi bath and the room service was very quick and efficient.
The 4 poster room was lovely, this is the third time we have stayed here. The food is also good. Would definately recommend if you need to stay in Didcot for any reason.
Very nice country house style hotel - large rooms and good bathrooms. Nice location and attractive gardens. Excellent vfm No meals on Sunday nights mitigated by good pub serving food about 3-5 mins walk away.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was well prepared and good value. It was a pleasure to have your breakfast served to you and not to endure the normal 'help yourself'/ Our room was in the annex and the plumbing was extremely noisy - first thing in the morning was like being in the Tardis during take off. The lighting could have been better - a twin bedded room with just a main light and one light between the beds - no light on the desk/dressing table which was in a corner.
Large comfortable room Small bathroom
Breakfast was good Room smelled of smoke
I liked the helpful staff in the restaurant who worked extremely hard on the sturday evening of our stay. I stayed in room 121 which was awful and i have complained personally to Diane Cornish the sales manager and i have yet to have the courtesy of a reply to my comments.
Setting and location excellent. Public rooms nice Scandinavian type rooms (118) were very very small. Little wardrobe and storage space. Walls were paper thin. We could hear neighbours even when they were whispering and using bathroom! Flight path from nearby RAF base. No double galzing. It was clear the accommodation was geared to single people on conferences/workshops. Massive disappointmant!
Character hotel. Standard room very small, we stayed in the barn conversion annexe, room was very small with single glazed window which was very noisy. It felt as if we were staying in a beach hut. There was a noise in the pipes which kept us awake most of the night. Also we had to travel to a nearby pub as the restaurant(which is another pub a minute) away was full, priority to guests with bb and e meal.
We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The first room was extremely hot, we spoke to reception who offered us another room without hesitation. The restaurant is excellent both for breakfast & dinner. After eating there the first night we definitely wanted to on our second night but forgot to book. So after a day out and about came back to hear it was fully booked being Saturday. However the staff were brilliant and said they would manage to squeeze us in and we weren't disappointed, the steak was perfect along with everything else! Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds and setting. Will definitely go back.
The hotel grounds and local area The fact they have a two tier system where guests staying at the Old Swan get dining reservation preferences and their own roped off lounge area that the Minster guests cannot use
Lovely setting, staff very friendly. Lovely meal. There were no biscuits on the hospitality tray.
The reception and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and welcoming The setting is delightful and the food in the restaurant was very good. Our bath room was very cold - no apparent heating and interesting though the high ceilings are, there was a draught. This did not spoil our stay but if the weather had been colder it might have done.
lovely location, good restaurant
Location Staff and service
The lovely village location and splendid grounds, the roaring fires and tasteful country house feel. The restaurant was a little disorganised. Four people took our orders and served us and the co-ordination was lacking and the service was therefore slow. Why not allocate given tables to specific waiting staff?
Absolutely the best, most beautiful hotel we have stayed at in the UK. Wonderful restaurant and wonderful food as well as service. Keep up the good work. Highly recommend your hotel. No
Comfortable room with good facilities,a very good meal with very effici.ent and friendly service no lift
peace and quiet and the location Choice of dining menu and the cost.
you felt a relaxed atmosphere, no rushing around. it was great.
Friendly staff at meal time, plenty of car parking, ideally situated for A40 Swimming pool far too small
Reception staff were helpful and room and bed were spacious.
Good facilities, good food in restaurant, good room and friendly staff. Good location for shopping in Oxford and visiting the Cotswolds
facilities breakfast good evening meal portions small for the price
The size of the room was great. Food was value for money from the bar, the breakfast was good and extensive. Nothing major
The leisure facilities make a huge difference to my visits. The variability of the room prices from week to week.
Set in beautiful grounds. Hotel provided excellent facilities Bedroom was in seperate block and although comfortable needs to be redecorated.
The reception and bar were beautifully decorated. The room was clean and comfortable. Dining and leisure facilities were disappointing.
The location, it was easy to get the park and ride into Oxford but Abingdon and Didcott are all close by. Easy access to the A34. The gym is very small and doesn't have any weight lifting equipment which wasn't clear when booking. Most of the rooms are in a separate building to the main house and reminded me of council flats. Although we were "upgraded" to the main house when we complained, there was no internet access in our room and it wasn't as picturesque as I had imagined. The food was also very average. I was generally very underwelmed by the hotel.
It's a lovely historic building with beautiful grounds & there were lots of rabbits & squirrels. Excellent value for money. The breakfast was very good. The carpet on the landing in the bedroon annexe had seen better days.
Leisure facilities good The restaurant was one of the worst I have encountered. Starters and sweets were pre prepared; Main course poor. No excuse, only one other couple in the restaurant. Seemed to be concentrating on theme groups and wedding parties. Complaint form submitted on departure.
Good location, comfortable room. food so bad I thought I was at a beefeater! Real 1990's style pub fayre, yet the cheapest glass of wine was almost £7.Certainly didn't live up to the De Vere brand.
the rooms are always clean and warm the delay in checking in and checking out. the charge for the breakfast. the credit card fee (£2.50) is bordering on profiteering.
Coffee & tea making facilities in room Walk from lobby to bar
Response to repeated failures of room keys was oustanding - and the only reason I will consider coming again.
Fantastic breakfast and staff were very helpful and attentive.
The room, the quiet, the comfortable bed, the excellent breakfast (even though I only ate it once), the accommodating staff (thank you for my early morning latte on the patio). Turning off the patio lights around 11 p.m. (midnight?)..... I couldn't have my late night read outside.... a small thing, but important for me. It would have been good to have a facecloth included with the room's linens.
Service was both willing and charming (though no one offered to carry my case). Excellent breakfast. One could read by bedside lights - a rare pleasure! Decor a bit shabby and not particularly to my taste. Comfortable first-floor sitting-room had unused look.
Clean, pleasant staff, good central location on the high street. Room a bit tired looking. Cream for coffee in the room was out of date. Cold room- the heating had not been put on. Facing bins at back of building & a bit noisy when staff were. Putting the rubbish out.
The food - both breakfast and dinner was outstanding. The best meals we had in our tour of the Cotswolds.
Friendly staff & excellent service.Wonderful food. Real ale was a bonus.
Burford is a lovely town in the Cotswolds. Also the countryside surrounding it is wonderful, especially in Autumn.
Very friendly people, excellent breakfast, and it was easy to commute by train to oxford No complaints
Lovely location, fantastic room, the owner couldn't have been more welcoming, breakfast great! No bad points
Large bedroom. Very well furnished. spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfasts. Good en-suite. Shower over bath, plenty of hot water, but had to run cold tap for quite a while before water was cold. No Lounge. Access to shower in bath awkward for the not so young. a more generous supply of soap and shower gel would have been appreciated.
The room exceeded my expectations, hostess was friendly and helpful and service was first class. Very clean.
Great Place . Convenient .Great Hosts. Food Excellent N/A
A superb hotel with friendly owners in a great position for visiting Oxford. All round five star performance.
The bedroom and bathroom were both finished and appointed to a very high standard. The rural location is beautfull within easy walking distance of the River Thames. None
The rooms were of excellent quality - beautifully decorated, great furniture, extremely confortable bed and gallons of hot water. Salina, the host, was also very warm and hospitable and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. And the icing on the cake was waking up to a fantastic breakfast. Thanks for a short but wonderful stay. Nick & Agnes - London No bad points
Friendly greeting by owner with a very welcome cup of coffee, despite there being ample coffee/tea in the room, very spacious room spotlessly clean, very quiet qnd peaceful, (ideal after a hectic day) Excellent breakfast freshly cooked, When I was asked if I was enjoying my meal and did I want more, it was very genuine, unlike the command "enjoy" which unfortuanatly is the "buzz word" for the corparate establishments None whatsoever
welcomed with coffee by the owner, rooms well maintained and spacious. Breakfast very good and the owner met our request for an early breakfast.
Nice clean hotel and ideal central location in Witney. Breakfast service each morning was utterly hopeless.
Staff very friendly and helpful Rooms and facilities perhaps a bit tired...
food options, central location noisy room, needs triple glazing
We were attending a wedding at the Fleece and this was ideally located. We requested a quiet room due to previous reviews about noise from the front, we were put in the annex in a newly decorated room. No issues with parking. Overall this hotel was ok, nothing special. Although the room was newly decorated the bathroom wasn't, there were 2 bad mis-spellings on the towel instructions in the bathroom which summed up the hotel really, lack of attention to detail. Remote control didn't work, bad reception on the 5 channels, really early breakfast (8:30 finish is far too early if you're on holiday), adequate breakfast but a lack of choice.
I booked two rooms - 1 family room and 1 single room. The family room was spacious and comfortable. However, the single room was not very clean and there was evidence of damp - it was not satisfactory. There was also a lot of noise from the neighbouring bars on the Saturday night and whilst the Marlborough is not in a position to have any control of this it did mean that we got very little sleep until after 4am on the Sunday morning.
Comfortable bed and good food Limited car parking
tea coffee in rooms the 'hot' breakfast was served before we had finished the cereal. It could have been hotter
lamb shank evening meal poor. good cooked breakfast.
Excellent evening meal
Staff were helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast
I arrived late in the evening and the owner was on hand to let me in and get settled .Room/bathroom were clean and comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was the classic 'Full English Breakfast' -featuring Award winning sausages from the local butcher! No Dislikes - disappointed that i missed the 'Biztro restaurant'. Next time !
excellent location, accomodation, hospitality and food The breakfast was very good, but you had to make a choice by means of a menu. You could also limit the choice with a buffet, but the guest would now free to take what and how much he wants.
The dinner menu and the breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and bar area was traditional. The bed was a bit soft.
Food was excellent. Room was comfortable For a superior room, the bathroom needed updating and the room initially was cold
nothing particularly stands out - rooms were comfortable but not special, food was mostly good. Waiting staff were attentive owner / manager has a rather abrupt manner which can be off putting, Breakfast portions are small and do not justify the £9.95 price tag. Cheese board portions also small - I have seen bigger Dairy Lea triangles!
Good food, comfortable spacious room and ideally situated near to RAF Brize Norton.
Convenient and very quiet. there were no other facilities in the vicinity so you are a captive audience. As a consequence, the prices for drinks etc were very high.
Comfortable, good atmosphere, convenient for Oxford.
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff, excellent food.
very pleasent room, with lovely fresh cooked food in pub
Bed was uncomfrtable. Kettle did not work
The charm of the building, Beer Garden, Location, Breakfast options, Friendly staff. On the expensive side but accommodation in the area is.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Delicious food served in the atmospheric bar area at the front of the hotel.
Just the ticket! a very warm welcome, very accommodating, excellent food and in the most beautiful setting. We'll definitely be back. Thank you.
Tally, Scott & not forgetting Andy were really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very comfortable from the beginning to the end of our stay. The food was excellent and our room was very comfortable. Will definitely recommend to family & friends.
Location of the Bay Tree was excellent for visiting Burford. My husband and I dined in the restaurant and the food was very good. Choice of breakfast also very good. The receptionist, a young lady from Berlin, was helpful and very pleasant. Having worked in the hotel industry (a long time ago - Head Office Personnel for thf Hotels, hotels in Paris, Sardinia and also as pa to Executive Director of the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, Loondon)for many years, I noticed our room (Walnut) was in need of some cosmetic work I.E. chipped paint on the walls. I'm also not entirely convinced that the bottom sheet on the bed had been laundered properly (rather creased with marks on it) and there was also a stain on the top cover. Not noticed until we got into bed and I didn't think housekeeping would be on hand at that time of night. When you are paying £137 per night, I feel the standards should be higher. I also noticed a special offer on reception for midweek for a double room considerably cheaper and wonder why this was not available when I booked on-line?
Old English atmosphere, comfortly appointed, good food and very friendly members of staff who gave help when it was needed
Memories of the past, good service, friendly staff and excellent food
Personal and friendly with a warm and comfortable atmosphere without being coldly ostentatious
local to Burford
Quiet, clean, comfortable and excellent service which was unobtrusive but sensitive to needs.
The comfort, furnishings, decor, luxury, value for money, atmosphere. Nothing
The atmosphere, old building with nice details....living inside of History ! -
Staff very efficient and food excellant. Thought wine prices a bit steep and £3.75 for a bottle of water for my wife at dinner, not really justified. We could of course asked for a jug of tap water, which was what we expected.
