A total scam - they charge enormous fees for insurance. I brought a copy of my credit card contract and they refused to let me get its coverage. It cost more for the insurance than the actual rental. Avoid these guys and go with someone who is legitimate and honest. I will never rent from them again. Ever!

We prepaid for a vehicle, pickup after 12pm- there was no way to change the pickup time when making reservations. Our flight didn't arrive until 5pm but given that we had prepaid for our desired vehicle, it seemed logical they would have one there for us. During my flight I get a notice that they canceled car reservation since had not picked up yet, even though it was prepaid! Upon landing, the main phone number would not provide me a phone number for the specific pickup location, said that they would not refund my money, and that i needed to go to the location to see in any car was available for me, at additional costs to me. So we had to leave the airport, unsure if we had a rental car, get to the car agency, and they only have SUVs available for TWICE the price of the car we had reserved! So we are stranded if we dont agree to the additional price. Very much a "Bait and Switch". Remember, we had PAID UP FRONT, there was no risk of them loosing rental money by holding our reserved car for us.

Stay away from HERTZ in Tulum. They had my reservation. They asked if I wanted their insurance, I declined and said my credit card would cover. They said that they didn't have that agreement with credit card card companies and told me I'd need a $2,000 deposit. So I had to take a taxi for $120.

It tool over 2 hours to pick up the car after the check in . We had a baby with us so after long travel this is unacceptable. The reason we were given for the wait so that they need to clean the car after they were dropped off. The car we received was not cleaned. Other customers experienced even longer wait times…

Check in process took forever. Car wasn’t ready had to wait for almost an hour outside at the pickup spot. Car was dirty on arrival. Also at the drop off it took awhile and then not enough room in the shuttle so had to wait again for next shuttle to come. Overall it was ok

Waited 45 minutes in line to sign paperwork for the rental inside the terminal. Was told no cars available for 30-45 minutes. Waited 2.5 more hours outside before leaving without a vehicle. Worst "rental" experience ever

The insurance part of the process wasn't clear and I needed to do more detailed research ton understand the mexican accident coverage. Once at the counter I was offered a 60$ a day insurance coverage, I needed to be very informed in order to get the cheaper option, which was still expensive, 40$ a day for insurance. The drop off was a bit complicated as no company representative was present on the drop off lot, which was situated on a different, more secluded part of the airport. We drove to the arrival lot and an employee was able to assist us.

There is no Dollar agency in Tulum. It is Hertz. Took us one hour visiting car rental agencies to find out Dollar is part of Hertz. When we got there our reservation was not in their system. Told us to call Kayak. We had to call a Hertz high level manager to help us and after 3 hours got a noisy, dirty mini van in another agency. Lucky for us we knew someone at Hertz. Terrible service from Kayak and Dollar

The worst experience ever this place is a scam they wanted me to put a $17,000 hold on my card which basically covers the entire cheap car they were renting me since I did not take their expensive insurance and wanted to use my credit card provided insurance. Luckily I used Mexcar which was wayyyyyy cheaper and they only put like a $500 hold which was immediately taken off my account once vehicle was returned. Stay away from this place at all costs!!

Car was not ready, had to wait till it was cleaned. Car wash quality was horrible. Car itself was beaten up from all sizes, it was hard to follow all cracks and scratches. Have no complains for staff in the airport tho. Was very helpful and understanding.

The Tulum airport is new and pretty but the rental car situation/ area is very poorly managed and planned. Rental process took over 90 mins and return process took over an hour. Very disappointing and frustrating!

People who were renting us a car did not speak English at all, were difficult to work with, very slow, did not allow us to switch, coverage to the one we wanted. Very disorganized, took us a while to get a car and to return it. The process is very combers one and not designed for customer comfort.
