Check-in was a disaster. When I booked the flight, I thought that it included a carry-on bag but they ended up having us pay to check-in our bags. Our outbound flight included the carry-on so I didn’t understand why our inbound flight did not.

He then purposely issued us tickets for three that were all spread away from each other when we were originally suppose to sit together. The flight was delayed for 4 and a half hours. Every 30 mins they would add another 30 mins to the delay. Made it nearly impossible to know when we were going to board. The flight attendant on the plane wouldn't allow me to get up to use the restroom until everyone was on board. I have bladder issues, so that was not ok. The flight attendants were rude as well. No one seemed to enjoy their job on that flight. The overall quality of the plane was pretty bad. They advertise having the newest planes, but that was by far the oldest and most run down plane that I've been on. No leg room at all, and the seats do not recline at all. Made it a very tight squeeze. Never flying with VIVA AEROBÚS ever again."

The flight was delayed for starters. But it’s such a short flight so everything was okay for the price. Seats don’t recline and no refreshments were offered but once again, the flight was quick and smooth.

Flight from Cartagena - Bogota - Lima. When I arrived at the airline counter in Cartagena to fly to Bogota the reps requested a PCR test result from me although for travel to Peru within 24 hours, only an antigen test is required, not a PCR test. I had a negative Covid antigen test result from the airport clinic just before checking in for the flight. Subesequent to that, I requested that that the airline at least honor the flight from Cartagena to Bogota thinking that when I arrived in Bogota, as it is a more international airport, I would be able to convince a manager there that the current travel regulations to Peru only require a Covid antigen test within 24 hours of travel to Peru. The airline reps and manager refused to even honor my flight ticket from Cartagena to Bogota athough no Covid test at all is required for travel within Colombia. The female attendants scoffed at me. Furthermore, the male staff person got incredibly aggressive with me in front of everyone in the airport to the point where I had to step back thinking he was going to get physical with me. In all of my travel to 54 countries and 51 years of travel, I have never been treated this poorly by an airline. I had to go to the counter of another airline where I was able to purchase another ticket to Bogota and was able to fly out that hour by paying for another ticket. Fortunately, my bank has granted me a chargeback although I was forced to pay more for a ticket purchased at the counter of another airline. I am SURPRISED this Viva Airlines is even in business!

I guess my comment is on the extras and as they charge for it, you know is a low cost service, but the extras or unknown could be charged at a much normal rate.

Cons: "The staff were pushy and rude to me when they told me at the gate, when I was about to board, that I could not have a backpack and small purse. This is not what I understood when booking and is not clearly explained at the time of purchase. One attendant at the gate in particular was forceful and rude when insisting that I pay over $66 in cash at a moment when going to the ATM would mean potentially missing boarding and not arriving back in time to the gate. This process, which I agreed to because two staff members gave me the impression that I could not travel on the flight unless I paid right there instantly in CASH (completely ridiculous), caused me anxiety and took a long time, too long given the urgency of boarding the flight. I had to wait for change for 5 minutes and as a result, I was the last one to board. It should be noted that this process of paying for a maleta in hand at the gate had been preceded by having to pay over $20 in cash to print a boarding pass, which required another ATM withdrawal and fee. This is a weak and predatory business model, which seeks to exploit people’s need to travel and their anxiety. This was carried out in a completely unprofessional and manipulative manner by the staff members. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and exploitative."

You have to print one from home or use an internet cafe at the airport that charges $6 to print a single sheet of paper. They jam your carry on bag into a small box. Boarding took longer than the flight! The seats are incredibly cramped yet they recline all the way back, so you're likely to have someone in your lap for the entire trip. Absolutely horrible. Nothing like other high quality discount airlines such as Air Asia which at least treat you like a human being."
