Also, with the rented tablet, I was unable to track where we were or follow our progress (as we can with the in-seat TV's). Lastly, on a long-flight, they should have been better stocked. During their second trip to offer food for purchase they were sold out of many items - very limited options at that point."

Well much to our surprise we get to the airport in Maui to leave and by sure luck because we had to get there early for our rentL car return , realized our flight was boarding in 30 minutes. It got bumped up by 4 hours with absolutely no notification. Also our nice long layover that we had purposely planned was now only 4 hours. So not only did we almost miss our first flight but we had to miss our friends party. We were never notified. I checked my spam mail, junk mail, and regular Mail. Alaska airlines did nothing for us as far as compensation for our aggravation. We usually love using kayak but if this is what will be happening from now on we will be taking our business elsewhere."

Seats were difficult to sleep in, head rest while adjustable is thin and gave no real head support, at the end of the flight my neck felt like it had whiplash. No food, on a 5+ hour flight, it was overnight, but the seat head rests made sleeping difficult."

"As with the outbound flight, this return flight was not full - maybe 40-50%. As they started boarding they announced they located a few people the help with 'load a balance' of the aircraft. What they had done was to compress all passengers in the middle of the plane leaving no space between anyone. It is difficult to understand why everyone is required to wear Masks, then relocated to remove all space between passengers, when there was ample room to allow everyone to be seated with space between."

"The terminal on my ticket was different than the gate number. We went through security and had to take a 15 min shuttle to a different terminal. Why not just go through security there? There were also no attendants at the gate to discuss seat assignments. My husband and I didn’t have seats together. Try on board crew was great, but the airport experience was lacking."

Apparently Delta had not told the Detroit-Boston flight to wait a few minutes for us. We did make the connection, but we arrived at the gate with no seat assignment (we had been bumped the day before from our original flight because of a mechanical problem) as the plane was loading. Had we missed the flight, we would have had to spend the night in Detroit and go to Boston the next day. Delta should have told the gate agent that we were coming."

Chaotic boarding is compounded by the back of the plane boarding last.... everywhere else in the world loads everyone together or does the back of the plane first and it's much quicker!"

Pros: "Even though we were in the very back row, we did not experience a foul smell from the restrooms. This was a very nice relief. It is bad enough that the seats don't recline and there is no window in the very back row but prior experience with the added nausea of foul restroom order has been a serious insult to injury. In this case there was really minimal odor. Also since we are traveling as a family we are very happy that we were seated together. We have experienced the past that sometimes our seats will be fragmented and that creates major challenges when you are traveling with young children. However on this particular flight the ride was rough during both takeoff and landing, a lot of side to side shimmy. Also the cabin pressure varied quite a bit during landing causing all the kids to complain about some discomfort in their ears."

Pros: "About 10-15 yrs ago I stopped transatlantic flights on Delta. It was a scruffy airline with uninterested cabin crew & not to talk of food etc. What a change! Neat clean A330, friendly crew & food + beverages to brag (you pay outrageous prices on 'leaner-meaner' airlines if at all available). Loved the whole experience. Flying is not only getting from A to B & Delta has realized it. Looking forward to my next Delta flight!"

Most of the announcements in flight were muffled and hard to hear. The safety speech was really quite terrible. I think someone was torturing her to do it. It was really quite painful to listen to....."

Unfortunately this was after landing from Milan at 1.30 with two small children so we had already had a very long day. Cons: "I am beyond stunned that our flight itinerary was changed from 3.30pm to 9.20pm with no notification. This is absolutely unreasonable and inexcusable made even worse that we had already had a very long journey from Milan to JFK with two small children. Evidently the issue was that we booked via a 3rd party off the kayak site and not directly with British airways. When American airways changed the flight from 3.30 to 3.25, the 3rd party company failed to file for our updated itinerary so British air/American air bumped us to the next flight at 9.20pm. We have long been loyal to kayak feeling it provides the best breadth of options and good pricing. Now we may use kayak to see all the options but I can’t booking directly with kayak anymore after this complete disaster. We ended up renting a car and driving from jfk to Boston, getting home 23 hours after our journey had started, stressed, beyond exhausted and now have to return the rental car. Thanks kayak."

Pros: "United airlines canceled a flight last minute that I needed in order to get to my best friends' wedding on time, I usually fly AA but the United flights were slightly cheaper at the time. The options United gave me would have had me missing the wedding, AA had more flights that allowed me to make it in time, considering it was booked 12 hours before take-off, it was decently reasonable and left on time and got in early (imagine that, United). Thank you American Airlines, again!"

Cons: "The entertainment system in my seat was broken. Was a bummer since we added a extra hour ground hold for weather."

Cons: "The connecting flight was with a partnership airline but I was not notified of this before I got on my flight. When I went to the information desk they had no idea where my flight was, or if it even existed. I had to wait for the Hainan Airlines booths to open for a different flight and then ask them. I waited over an hour in total and was then afraid I would miss my connecting flight."

Cons: "We were downgraded from Main Cabin Extra rows 7 and 8 to row 30. We were told that we will get refund automatically. However, we received nothing. Getting a refund back is now becomes a very complicated process with zero transparency. Main Cabin Extra is kind of a scam. We bought it specifically for an extra leg room. However, on the flight from PHX to BOS, all seats in the economy class have the same leg room. The agent explicitly told us that on this plane all seats are the same. So, they offer product they do not have and collect money. Sounds like a scam to me."

Cons: "Outbound flight was delayed by 2 hours because the flight crew that was supposed to fly our flight was delayed relying out of some other airport. Had to get a rental car and ended up reaching my friends place really late. And had an interview early next morning. Not ideal at all."

Cons: "While the brakes/ tires issue was not their fault, it's much more helpful to post a 2 hour delay (and surprise us with an earlier boarding) than checking with mechanics every 15 minutes with updates announced but no projected departure time!"

Cons: "We boarded the plane at 1:30 for a 2:00 flight, there was a filter out in one of the three bathrooms; the option to take a 45 min flight without use of the restrooms was there, we were told to use the restroom if we needed to before the flight so everyone did... then we continued to sit on the ground for two hours. After two hours we were allowed to get off the plane, 20 minutes later back onto the plane, backed away from the gate and then pulled into a different gate and were told to get back off the plane. At this point we were given no info or direction but to go talk to special services if we want to re-book a different flight (sold out until at the earliest 8:15pm). After about an hour they announce they are re-boarding the original plane, takes another 45 minutes to board the plane, then we are told two separate issues caused this lengthy delay one was a filter in the bathroom and the other was a thermostat... seems like very basic standard maintenance issues that could have been avoided with routine checks. We were offered zero compensation, the trip took over 6 hours in all to fly from Philadelphia PA to Boston MA; a trip I could have driven in less time. I continue to have issues with American Airlines and "mechanical" delays, the last flight i was on From Charlotte to Baltimore was delayed an hour due to a strap in the cargo area. I don't understand the logic behind the decisions made to hold the full plane over 5 hours instead of taking a 45 minute flight, but I will say the crew was very apologetic and handled the situation well."

Pros: "Very pleasant attentive crew and ground staff. An aborted takeoff on tarmac meant a return to the departure gate and the plane taken to maintenance. The ground staff were superb in dealing with a full plane load of passengers many of whom had onward connections. This meant we had to stay overnight and fly first thing the next morning. Full marks to United for dealing with a potentially dangerous situation and then assisting everyone back in the terminal."

Oh wait, but there's still Wi-Fi service, right? Sure, if you are willing to pay $17 just to download application!! United, I understand how you want to make little money out of a customer's pocket, but this is not how you should do it. You should at least allow internet connection before departure or let the customer aware they need to download application beforehand."

Cons: "Boarding took a long time in the plane. There was confusion as they had passengers going both ways in the aisle .. this forced several ppl to stand in the aisle a long time. One of the air hostess had a major attitude. For example one passenger who was stuck in the middle of other passengers asked her politely if she could help him put the carry on in an overhead bin near her .. and she responded "I cant help you, you need to put it up yourself sir". Not something one expects. She was also terse with passengers, ordering them in an annoyed tone."

Pros: "I didnt know I could only bring one item on board that had to be checked UNDERNEATH the seat in front of me. I didnt have the "right" ticket for over head storage. I had to buy a box for $15 to put my purse in and THEN pay $35 to check my PURSE in! I couldnt check in early. I had to go to the gate to get a seat assignment and then even though my assigned seat was in the 10th row, I then had to line up in groups like Southwest and I guess my punishment for sitting in economy was to wait to board last. I felt like third class boarder on the Titanic. United has become less than a Greyhound bus. They will NEVER be my first choice again! It was HORRIFIC I will go to ANY other airlines before them. P.S. the service at the Houston counter were rude and awful except for Ms. Edwards"

Cons: "It began going downhill at the United Lounge, where I put two chairs together to get a little sleep since my flight was scheduled to leave at 12:30am. I was summarily woken up and told that it wasn't appropriate to sleep in a lounge. I complained at the front-desk (politely) and was told ... "This is a lounge". Oh and yes, the Wifi wouldn't connect and the food was stale ... so I left, and found a very nice sofa in the concourse. On the flight, service was non-existent, whoever was in the galley was clattering things about, despite the fact that this is a short red-eye flight ... the coffee was awful. The steward forgot to give me my coat and I had to ask twice AFTER we landed and were leaving the plane to get it. By contrast, Lufthansa has daybeds and a special quiet area to snooze, and offer pillows and blankets. Clearly, the Germans are louche compared to Americans."

Cons: "I was not informed about the delay until after I checked my bag, otherwise I might have chosen another flight. I was informed that though I could possibly change flights, my bag might not. I have the UA app, and did not receive timely notification. Free WIFI would have been nice as a compensation. A 4 hour delay means I miss my bus and extends my travel time significantly, one more night away from home. You did offer $50 of mt next UA flight for the next year, but I don't fly that often. Considering the reason for the delay was they were waiting for a plane was frustrating."

Pros: "Very meticulous pilots, very friendly and accommodating cabin crew"
Cons: "When we made reservations in February we opted for economy plus seating 8C and 8D on an Airbus A320. In June we received notice of a schedule and equipment change to a Boeing 737-300. I was not told or given the option to change seat assignments, and we were assigned middle and window seats 28E and 28F, which were torture, so narrow and almost no legroom. Why weren't we automatically assigned economy plus seats? Adding insult to injury I had to apply for a refund for the seat upgrade, which again should have been automatic. Seeing as how the return flight was code-shared with AirCanada, United did not give us the option to upgrade seating, so I was forced to call United, waited almost 40 minutes so that they could give me the AirCanada booking reference number which then enabled me to upgrade seats via AirCanada's website. Lucky thing too because there weren't many economy plus seats left. I consider myself to be a savvy traveler, but there were too many unknowns and hoops to jump through in order to get proper seating. Plus the extra fees for premier access and baggage are exorbitant. Finally, I bought an egg white flatbread snack which was awful. I don't see how United gets away with this treatment, it certainly doesn't make for an enjoyable experience when vacationing. In fact we are seriously considering not taking any more vacations requiring flying. We're happy that airlines are profitable, but not at the expense of comfort or navigating options that require very sophisticated knowledge."

Cons: "The customer service was mediocre. The selection of complementary beverage was minimal compared to other airlines. The staff are disgruntled and sometimes rude. There was always some sort of mechanical problems with the plane going to Puerto Plata and coming back. On the way to DR we had to divert to Miami because of problems with Navigation. They made us wait seven hours and gave us a voucher for food at the last minute. People had already bought food. I would not recommend United to none of my associates."

A little customer service could have went a long way to make the situation better. I am overall not pleased with the customer service I received and was disappointed with the delay. I don't think I will ever fly united again due to the customer service."

(I am 70 and 4 hours is too long to sit) I usually get an isle seat but ALWAYS have to give up my bag at the gate - my bag which you tell me I can bring ON the plane with me. I do not like having to waste time claiming my bag that you told me I could have with me on the plane. I can pay $25 for that privilege!! The flight attendants always seem like they have their defenses up. One even held up the people trying to board so she could serve a drink to someone in first class. REALLY?? They couldn't wait till the plane was loaded?? I gave this flight a 'good' rating because it was mostly as good as it is going to get with economy passengers needs stripped to the bare minimum."

Trash on the floor toilet was dirty and it smelt bad. It was comparable to a train I took crossing Siberia in the 90,s. My flight to LA was delayed by 51/2 hours. I was given a voucher but after this experience not sure I will ever use it"

Upsetting that we missed our connection due to United's poor planning, they didn't hold our connecting flight for us but we had to wait all night for other flights."

Every other trip was delayed. This time 4 hours on my return flight to Boston due to a plane switch, boarding of a new plane to discover a mechanical issue, deboarding, waiting for a new plane, then boarding and sitting on the ground for another 40 min before we were able to take off. I was delayed 1.5 hours on the way to Chicago due to another plane swap (no joke). Still doesn't top but my worst 5 hour delay in Chicago on the way back to Boston because the captain didn't show up. United is atrocious and is my last choice or any airline. Only fly when I'm absolutely forced to now due to no other reasonable choices. They are below delta, JetBlue, American, southwest, and embarrassingly, spirit as well. Terrible."

Shouldn't basic functions be checked before a plane is boarded? What was supposed to be a 1030 red eye, turned out to be a 1 AM bloodshot eye."

Pros: "Captain had apologized many times about the delay. I appreciated that. . Crew attitude towards customers were way better than my first leg.( Beijing to Chicago). I wonder why. Boarding took long time. Many people had no overhead bin for their carry on. I don't have one so I Just watched them. They serviced water and a tiny snack. One man asked if they have something to eat. He was given a bigger bag of snack, free, usually he had to pay. I guess its due to the delay. Waited a little longer for luggages. But I was happy I arrived Boston safe before midnight."

Finally we were called for boarding, and then 10 minutes after that, the first passenger actually got on. After a second boarding we made it out to the runway... where we sat for another 40 minutes. Keep in mind, this particular plane has no seat outlets nor in seat entertainment systems, so most people had either dead or dying phones at this point, rendering the "complimentary in flight entertainment" available through the United app useless. Once we were finally in air, we weren't comped drinks or Internet or any other amenity offered by United. I've been stuck in situations like this on other airlines, but they worked to provide the barest glimmer of hospitality. Fly the friendly skies?
