Cons: "I began asking for my wheelchair escort the minute I got off the plane. I was assured in Houston they would be there when I got to Detroit. They were not. The request was clearly spelled out on my boarding pass along with my personal oxygen equipment information. I kept asking different staff and they would call for me then say somebody would be there. I waited for an entire hour and only when I started to cry did somebody do something. It was terribly stressful."

Many people on my flight were worried about connections because Delta delayed our start by over 30 minutes to "change a switch," whatever that means. Then for passengers with short connection times, they should NEVER be seated in the rear of the plane when it takes 20-30 minutes for the rear-seated passengers. Not very consumer-oriented."

I checked back later and the app had me as number 7 on the standby list. I called Delta (wait time 3+ hours... my flight was in 3), and then the Delta app support where I was able to get through to someone. She told me that the ticket I purchased over a month in advance did not guarantee me a seat on the plane (???). She said that if I was bumped from the flight they would reschedule me for the next morning. She was pretty rude and made it seem like I had a 50/50 shot of getting on this plane. I rushed to the airport in hopes that I would be the first from Standby there, and the gate agent told me that I was fine and would board right after first class and be assigned a seat then. Great. Once I got my seat assignment, I board to find out there is someone else sitting in my seat...... They eventually called the desk and had her moved, but it was the weirdest boarding experience I've had.. and I've flown Spirit. These planes that Delta fly's are SO OLD. Both times I have flown Delta the "turbulence" has been so bad and cold air was blowing right on my the whole flight with no option to turn it off (it wasn't from one of the vents, but from the side). Someone close to me works for Delta and I know for a fact that some of their engines blow mid-flight.. and they tell the passengers that it's turbulence.. so that doesn't make me feel very safe. I won't fly Delta again if there is another comparable option."

All of this happened in white-out conditions, on the Sunday after Thanksgiving—the busiest travel day in history! They were AWESOME. So after everyone had boarded, at the minute we were supposed to take off, they beg for 2 volunteers to get off the flight to compensate for the weight of the excess fuel. Eventually 2 people b3came annoyed enough to get off and take a $200 voucher (probably for another delayed flight.) so we were late taking off for that. At our destination there were clear sunn6 skies. Extra fuel was needed for that. So I was stuck in a seat the size of a child’s car seat for an extra 40 minutes? And when we could finally get off, my legs had fallen asleep ffrom being too squeezed in for that relatively short flight. When will the airlines focus on the passengers’ safety & comfort and not on excessive profits?"

When we got to the Gate for this flight, complimentary checking of carry-on bags was allowed, and that helped speed the boarding process, not just for us, but for all the people on the flight."

I was told he was accommodated because he is priority. When asked how I become priority I was told "he spends more money and flies more often." To me that means as a customer I am not a priority to American Airlines."

Cons: "The flight was delayed, at not fault of the crew on board, however the flight attendants did very little to update the passengers on connecting flights and did not try to help in making the connecting flight aware that some passengers would be delayed. I missed my connection by MINUTES (I saw it still taxied at the gate) and they could not hold the plane for 5 passengers connecting. Awful service and procedures."

(a female alone) -finally after 45 minutes they received my reservation. -I didnt get to my room until 1am and had to get up at 5 to get the shuttle back to the airport -Frustrating and nerve racking experience"

"I didn’t eat any of the snacks nor drink any of the beverages available on the flight. I tend to fall asleep on the plane, which is what happened. It has been a while since I have flown United, I appreciated the spacious seating, comfortable seats and improved planes. Thanks for making the flight easy and enjoyable, it seems like the company has been working on making general improvements to their flights and it’s paying off."

They would have known about the delay for hours already by that point, so I could have rebooked on a different flight. After a considerable time, we were told all luggage was delivered to the baggage concourse."

Having my elderly mother having to rush from one gate to other with no assistance whatsoever. Barely making it to the gate on time and luggage getting lost. Still to this time which is around 24 hours later from the flight, there is no response about her bags. Insulin was on checked luggage. She experiencing serious knee pain due to the fast walk from gate to gate. Fast walk being mention since she is old and can't run. Besides that, flights were good."

She then assigned us seating in separate rows and handed us new boarding passes. No explanation. We looked at them and handed them right back and said no thank you, we had purchased tickets together. She said, "this flight has been oversold" and motioned for the next passenger to step up. This really upset my husband who told her, "Wait, we are not finished discussing this!" He went on to explain to her we purchased our tickets together with seat assignments - Together. She then said if we didn't reclaim them when checking in, 24 hours prior, the seats then became available again. What kind of logic is this?! Ugh! If I wanted to be treated like cattle I would have stuck with Southwest! We. It's back to Southwest for us. At least they are up front with their rules."

Cons: "Plane several hrs. late. Missed connecting flight to Sacramento. Flying to attend my Father's funeral. Ended up flying to SFO so I could be within reach of drive to Fresno. Now have had to pay for hotel near SFO because of late arrival. Also having to pay $200 extra for rental car because return flight departs from Sacramento and not able to return rental car from originating rental location."

Cons: "Flight was cancelled. Stayed on hold for over 2 hours to rebook."

Pros: "Almost nothing. First time flying Spirit airlines and will never do so again. Everything was an extra charge and there was no service or comfort at all."

Cons: "The women at the gate rambled on and on each time she spoke. Rather than sticking to the boarding zones and keeping at that it was a constant annoying reminder about having to pay more money. The flight attendant don’t do their job. They spend more time Selling the credit card program than anything else. I was asked to put up another passengers seat tray as this passenger was asleep. This is not my job. They all stood in the front gossiping about who knows what instead of staying on the ready for the passengers. They look down upon and speak down upon. As If the crew was doing us a favor when it because of us they even have a job. Worst airline experience ever. I will never fly this airline again. The gate agents a check in couldn’t even speak proper English."

Pros: "Price was good & competitive... personnel on board pretty accomodating to your needs. However, they should take more control to passengers activities... had woman in front of me cursung in conversation the whole flight which i didnt need to hear w/my 13yr old son, had people across aisle loudly listening to RAP music WHICH I DIDNT CARE TO HEAR... 2 rows down asking for drink refills the whole flight. I'm a paying customer expecting my flight to be comfortable... not expecting for my flight experience to be shared with others nusance."
Cons: "Spirit personnel on ground need customer service training !!! You feel like a burden to them for help not realizing you buying ticket is job security for them... They're not professional in attitude & this is the difference between Spirit & other airlines !!!! Soooo bottom line... you pay bottom deal prices and have to expect bottom deal experience. Is it worth the savings & extra charges for seat/bags... depends on the savings & your tolerance ... i guess"

Pros: "Crew was friendly. Flight was faster than anticipated"
Cons: "QRS code for boarding pass wouldn't load on mine or my boyfriend's phone (using Gmail and Outlook). Computers were down at the gate in Tampa so I had to wait in line for full-service for over 30 minutes, despite "checking in" online (no bags). Employees at ticketing gate wouldn't reassure myself and 14 other passengers that we would make our flights due to Airline error. Once on the plane, unable to even open my 15inch laptop all the way because the seats were so small and tray tables were impossible. Surrounded by children. Asked for headphones, none provided. When I removed my coat from the under seat compartment, it had a piece of twizzler and an orange stain on it."

Cons: "My flight was delayed twice to Boston and I had an appointment to keep. I called the Spirit customer service line repeatedly to ask about travel options and discuss my dilemma. Unfortunately, it seems that phone line is entirely automated. I could not find a human to answer my questions. I finally booked a flight with another airline that was set to arrive in Boston prior to my Spirit flight. I planned to take my return flight home to Chicago, but was informed through email that I had been removed from the flight. I was very upset to learn that my round trip was cancelled by Spirit since I did not take the departure leg of the trip due to all the delays and my time constraints. If I was able to speak to a customer service representative when I repeatedly called for answers, I may have learned of this policy. I was told I could repurchase my flight home for $150, which was too much for me to spend. I am very disappointed that Spirit's budget nature even extends to poor customer service and lack of real humans to provide information during stressful travel situations. Since Spirit has done nothing to make me want to use this airline again, I will be seeking other carriers for my future travel needs."

Cons: "We were delayed 1&1/2 hours because of weather. But when we finally landed at midnight instead of 10:30pm, we stopped on a far away section of the tarmac. Pilot told us we'd be just a few minutes and it was due to some traffic. We sat and sat and sat. We watched at least 5 other planes go past us to gates. We finally got to a gate around 1am. An hour and 10 minutes after we landed with no additional explanation about why we were delayed again after we landed. I got home at 2 am. Had to be at work by 8 am. I'm so sick of airlines that withhold information. Just tell the freakin truth. It's 3 days later now and I still haven't had time to unpack. Also, your luggage fees are OUTRAGEOUS."

Pros: "Flight was non stop"
Cons: "All the additional charges for carry on and paying for my selected seat. Will not fly this airline again. by the time I paid all the added $174 of cost it was the same price as any other airline. The epic logistic failure at Ft Lauderdale. I got to the airport 2 plus hours early and still barely made my flight in time. I wanted to get something to eat but I couldn't because I had to wait in two lines to get my boarding pass, because the Kiosk would not print my ticket. In addtion to Spirit overloading TSA in their terminal. My worst flying experience ever, and I fly a lot!"

Cons: "First, they let you check in online, but they do not offer mobile boarding passes, so you have to go to the counter regardless. Second, they only allow a personal item (instead of a personal item and carry on). The normal carry on bag costs extra. Third, the seats don't recline at all, which is uncomfortable for anyone over 6 feet. All water, snack, soda, etc cost money, but that's to be expected. Lastly, the organization and scheduling process at the gate was terrible. They seemed disorganized and haphazard, and cancelled the flight before ours, giving little reason or recourse to the travelers. Bottom line: we may have saved a little money on the front end, but it wasn't worth it with all the additional charges and friction at check-in."

Pros: "Literally nothing"
Cons: "Spirit emailed me 12 hours before my flight telling me the flight had been cancelled. No call, just an email - and it was sent after 8pm, so it was lucky that I was checking my email that night. I called and they said they wouldn't be able to get me on another flight out until a day and a half after my original flight, so I ended up just cancelling the flight entirely and buying one on another airline. It took me 2 phone calls (2.5 hours each) to get Spirit to issue a full refund. The worst part? The flight wasn't cancelled. I found out from someone that had been on an earlier Spirit flight that was also cancelled that I had been booted off the flight so that they could rebook people from their flight. I looked on Spirit's site and sure enough the flight had reappeared and was accepting reservations. Absolutely unacceptable to lie to your customers and just boot them off of flights where they had paid for checked bags and seats in favor of other customers."

Pros: "I LOVED the flight attendants. They were cracking jokes all night and made the flight very enjoyable. I had already met one of the flight attendants on a previous flight months ago. My night instantly got better when I saw him on the plane knowing that he'd make it an interesting flight. He should be rewarded for his cheerfulness and the way he treats the passengers! It impressed me how his sense of humor didn't dry out even though it was so late at night. I didn't get his name but he was the only tall, latino flight attendant that night! I'm sure you guys can narrow it down!"

Pros: "It got me to my destination is the only positive thing I can think of to write."
Cons: "I disliked that if I didn't prebook my suitcases online ahead of time I'm charged a larger fee at the desk even when I'm a club member with the airline. Then I was told to pay my overage weight fee online and that isn't an option on the website. So when the person at the desk went to charge me she said it was $50 when if I'd have just paid for 2 suitcases online it would have been $10 cheaper. I also think it's crazy to charge customers for a cup of water on the flight especially one that's 3.5hours long. I get the airline is cheap and offers cheap flights but to nickel and dime customers for even water is crazy. The seats were also very very close tofether so that your knees are almost crammed into the person's seat in front of you. My husband use to be in the airborne unit in the military and said those flights with all his gear and no frils was more comfortable than this flight. I highly doubt we'll ever use spirit airlines again unless it's the only option or if it's under 1.5hrs to fly to my destination. I'm not sure I could endure must longer of a flight on their planes."

Pros: "That we left on time for once and only had 1 gate change this time instead of the average 2/3. Bonus...I was actually notified prior to arriving at the airport...that was a first! Things are looking up....or are they"
Cons: "Seats that don't move...even a tiny bit. Even water has a price tag. Boarding passes that you can't save to your phone and must be printed. (When traveling we don't always have that access) I know...print it at the airport. I would have but the kiosk wouldn't accept my credit card for the seat change so off to stand in line anyway. New bare bone seats just add to the discomfort of the tight spaces. The elastic straps don't hold anything and the tray tables are ridiculous....not to mention loud ever time someone doesn't realize you have to hold on to it as you close it or it sounds like a rifle shot"

Pros: "I enjoyed nothing"
Cons: "After being told there was a mechanical issue with the plane (already nerve-wracking) we waited an hour to receive any additional updates. The flight crew then told us that the flight was "99% canceled." After that, everyone in the area got up to wait in line, but instead of helping people rebook their flights immediately, the flight crew just disappeared and never came back. I ended up re-booking with a different airline and had to call customer service in order to have my money refunded for that flight. I did receive two travel vouchers, but I'd rather just have the $100 because I'll never book with Spirit Airlines again. Not to mention the literal 280 emails I received the exact same email update over and over and over again telling me that my flight was delayed until the next day. That's right, they never canceled (as they should have) and just delayed it further and further. If I had just waited around for updates from the delay, I would have had to spend the night in the airport and miss work the next day (which I already had to do because I had to rebook with another airline). Thank GOD I didn't have any checked luggage or I really would have been screwed."

Pros: "Nothing"
Cons: "Spirit airlines is the worst airlines by showing cheap ticket prices, but then charges you for getting a seat and carry-on bags. Their customer service is just as bad. Had a medical emergency and a family member had to be taken to the emergency room on the departure day and although the ticket was unrefundable they gave me a stinken $60 credit that has to be booked in the next month. Unlike the other airlines I was flying back on that gave me a FULL credit of the unrefundable ticket price to be used within the next year! Kudos to American Airlines!!"

Cons: "Both flights were delayed . I did though receive prior e mail communication about the Tampa flight being delayed. Once in Chicago, no gate listed on my ticket, all personal kept directing us to a gate that a flight to Boston( which was delayed also ) was boarding at the same time my flight to MSP was.suppose to board. absolutely no communication whatsoever about where my flight was or was being boarded or that is was delayed, until 5 min before boarding time . This experience was very irritating and upsetting.. pissed me off and will keep me from using Spirit Ailrlines again!"

Pros: "Our pilot and our flight crew"
Cons: "Stuck on runway at OHare for 1 hr 20 min after landing because they had no gate crew, then 15 minutes at the gate waiting for someone to open the door, then 1 hr standing around a continuously running and empty carousel. No representative at carousel, sitting in a nearby office and provided no tangible update or assistance. Never got out of her chair. Another staff member came later and also sat at the desk, did not help, another passenger asked him for a supervisor and he told her to shut up. Seriously??? I can only say that our crew in flight and our pilot were great, our pilot in particular was mortified by the situation, apologized repeatedly and suggested we all file complaints on spirit.com. My friend flying the same night to Dallas on Spirit had her luggage lost. Fly this airline at your own risk--you have been warned."

Pros: "Nothing."
Cons: "first time on spirit. I had no idea that I had to pay for carry on, and pay to get a seat assignment prior to boarding. I opted for general boarding, after paying $55.00 for a small carry on. with the added fees, their ticket price is not that much cheaper than a regular airline. I sat in the very last row. The seats were completely different in the last four rows than the rest of the plane. They were smaller, thinly padded, and the tray table was a metal plate that flipped down. I felt like I was on a folding chair. there was barely any leg room. i was twisted up like a pretzel. Although the flight left and landed on time, it was extremely uncomfortable. Next time I will think twice before booking on Spirit."

Pros: "The attendants were nice. The pilot was kinda funny."
Cons: "I didn't do my research.... A carry on cost $55 at time of checkin. Most seats do not recline. Beverages/snacks...even the basics cost. No onboard internet. I'm sure these are all things I could have found out with a little digging but I was buying a ticket in a hurry at the last minute. Not blaming anyone but myself but Spirit is not the airline for me. I got the feeling they promote themselves as a budget airliner but when you add of the costs of a carry on a account for the missing comforts I felt like there wasn't much savings in terms of experience. This is not for airline snobs...which I guess I am."

Cons: "Our flight was delayed just as others were delayed also because of weather. However since Spirit does not have as many docking options or priority at Ohare our flight was delayed for landing and de-boarding after we arrived at Ohare. It added an additional hour to our trip. So I guess if time is critical to your travel then you would want to travel on an airline that will make more of an effort to be on time. On our trip to our destination our flight was delayed but the pilot told us he made up the time by flying at a faster speed and taking a more direct route. We arrived earlier by 5 min. than our original schedule arrival time. We were very impressed."

Pros: "Crew was friendly and professional. Seats were comfortable. No issues with flight itself."
Cons: "We paid for the TSA check boarding and were rejected from this line on the way back to Chicago. Had to go back and wait 1 1/2 hours to go through TSA because: Spirit offered TSA check for and additional fee, but didn't print it out on our return boarding passes. Web site is so much like a comic book, its very difficult to find what you need. I couldn't print out return boarding pass move than 24 hours in advance and didn't have time to look it over before finding out we were taken for 66.00 for the TSA check pass. Very disappointed with this airline organization."

Pros: "One of the kiosk to check in was not working then we ended up finding another to use which caused us by 3 minutes to be late to check our bags. The rep then told us we couldn't check our bags would have to miss our flight and rebook and sent us to a long line instead of trying to help us because we were only late due to your machine being down. The only flight we could get was late in the evening causing us to have to get a rental car again that we just returned. Will never use this airline again."

Pros: "Had great weather for both roundtrip Chicago-Tampa flights and they were both smooth and I felt safe. The staff at the gate and on the flight were very pleasant (and happy). I also like that the seats were leather-like and not cloth which I think is easier to keep clean."
Cons: "The reason I will avoid Spirit Airlines 'like the plague' from this day forth is due strictly to their ridiculously high costs for my initial flight (booked over a month in advance) and for their unclear and expensive "checked/carry-on items" policy. Felt "nickel and dimed to death". I live part time in Europe and fly the budget "no frills' airlines often and Spirit is way out of the reasonble range. Example: a roundtrip Milan-London ticket on RyanAir for the 2017 Easter weekend purchased today would be less than $100 while a Spirit Chicago-Tampa purchased today would be $250 (and online baggage purchases on RyanAir are at least 50%-75% lower.) I read the Spirit baggage policy well and crammed everything into a small carry-on that and was told at the airport that "because it had wheels", I would be forced to pay the higher “at the counter carry on" fees. I was pissed. I could have paid less to check a larger suitcase with wheels in advance had I known. Really, I was pissed off and still am. I promptly found a computer and paid online for my bag for the return flight, vowing to avoid Spirit Airlines as best I could from that day forth. My Milan-Chicago Lufthansa roundtrip flight (purchased on the same day as my Spirit flight) cost less and I had a purse, a carry-on and a large checked bag and had two meals and wine and coctails and watched movies FOR FREE. Come on Spirit. Don't be so greedy."

Pros: "Departed on time & arrived early!"
Cons: "Having booked wheelchair service for my flight but I was unable to use it as the lines for baggage check-in & security were extremely long. I would have missed my flight waiting for the wheelchair service. There seemed to be no special line for wheelchair check-in at Ft Lauderdale airport due to the overcrowding. I was never even asked if I needed assistance until deboarded the plane in Chicago. It is a shame that Spirit does not take handy-capped passengers needs seriously at all locations. They did have decent wheelchair service in Chicago. If you do need wheelchair service on Spirit Airlines you will need to arrive 3+ hours prior to your flight when busy to be sure you don't miss your flight! Also, beware of their outrageous luggage charges even for carry-on luggage!"

Pros: "Not very much, the crew was pleasant and that was the only decent thing about the flight."
Cons: "There was no option to get a mobile boarding pass and I was not near a printer and wanted to do it before arriving at the airport. Only being able to check one bag is the silliest and most inconvenient rule since I was gone for 10 days and needed to bags for all my things. The charge for an extra bag was practically what it cost to buy a plane ticket. The seats on the plane were the most uncomfortable plane seats I've ever been on especially for a 4 hour flight. Finally, there was no in flight entertainment for a 4 hour flight offered. There wasn't even an option for in-flight wifi for purchase. It was the worst flight I have ever had. It's 2017 and Spirit's lack of amenities that every other airline offers is a sorry excuse for providing slightly cheaper airfare than most airlines. I never desire to fly with Spirit again."

Pros: "Spirit Airlines gouged us on our baggage in multiple ways. The worst was forcing us to pay $100 (yes, $100) to check my 5 year old son's TINY little "carryon suitcase" at the gate in Los Angeles because it rose 1/2 inch above the top of their "personal item" measuring bin. I complained, loudly, and they acted like they were doing me a favor by lowering the "fee" (blackmail / protection racket extortion - after telling us in Chicago that the little bag was OK) to $65 With this fee our total costs for our luggage on one roundtrip flight, for a family of four, including an 8 and a 5 year old, was OVER $300! And we packed reasonably, only checking three bags each way, plus the forced checking of the fourth bag on the way back."
Cons: "Insult to injury is their luggage tags, which all showcase the slogan "Save Major Moolah". I will NEVER fly Spirit again, and I will be lodging a formal complaint."

Pros: "Spirit is the worst airline I have come across in my life. They cancelled our connecting flight and refused to refund the entire fare, as well as apologizing to us that there were no more flights available and there was no other flight they could put us on. This airline is actually no cheaper than any others when you add the enormous amount of hidden fees and charges, and you'd better like low quality in everything you do if you fly spirit. Thank god American Airlines had a flight at the same time and we were able to make it home in time for work the following morning, but to say that spirit is a garbage airline is a colossal insult to the hardworking men and women in the waste management industry. Cons: "This was my worst experience ever with an airline! I have flown with them previously so I know about the bag fees, etc., but I did not realize thus was a self-service airline! There is is no customer service. My flight was to depart at 6am and we boarded the plane , but were informed that there was no pilot/copilot so we all had to de-board and wait for one. First they said 9:00, then 10 and then 10:45. I asked about my connecting flight and was told to go and book another flight which meant go back to the ticketing counter outside security! The agents at the gate claimed they did not have that capability. I proceeded to walk, but I called spirit airlines instead and was did not have to book another flight because the flight would be refueling and continuing to New Orleans so I would be on the same plane, but the gate agents did not know this. . We finally boarded 6 hours later to depart at 12pm. When I arrived in Chicago, not only did I have a message indicating I needed to pick up my bag in Baltimore, but also there was not flight continuing to New Orleans! So no bag and no flight! I had to argue with the ticket agent in order to get a hotel for the night book me on the same flight the next day. No apologies or explanation was provided. They actually tried to blame my phone connection for the miscommunication with airline about the connecting flight! They would not refund any amount for my bag or flight since they were able to book me 24 hours later! That is no excuse for the poor service they provided! Never again will I use this airline!"

Pros: "One customer service woman at the airport."
Cons: "Literally everything else. I could not have had a worse experience. Spirit's online system changed unexplainedly changed our address without our knowledge, therefore preventing me from checking my fiance in online. I spent too much time attempting to talk to them about it over the phone, and ended up being late to leave for the airport. On the drive there, I was able to get ahold of a customer service representative on the phone who purchased my fiance's luggage, seat, and checked her in over the phone. We arrived 43 minutes before the flight, and were turned away while attempting to check in her bag, being told that she was not checked in for the flight, and it was now past the mandatory 45 minutes before flight time and would not allow her aboard. I spent the next 2 hours arguing with customer service, where they accused me of lying and said that they don't even offer to check in people over the phone. I could go on, but it was absolutely awful, and we weren't able to be placed on a flight until the next morning."

Pros: "spirit airlines had the cheapest airfare at the time that we booked our trip. the kiosk check-in was smooth."
Cons: "we got hungry because of a flight delay so had to purchase in-flight food. the food is overpriced and frankly very disappointing. We splurged for 2 drinks and a snack box that claimed to have a cheese spread - in fact it was more like a dip (liquidy). the crackers almonds were good but the other items were just junk. we have ordered similar boxes on other airlines and got much better bang for our buck. I also think that a complementary beverage service would be nice. We all know that corn syrup is extremely cheap so I don't buy into their ad campaign about how not giving free soda service results in lower fares."

Pros: "Crew seemed nice although I didn't talk with them much. Boarding went well but the boarding process is hard to mess up."
Cons: "I didn't know that Spirit charges for carry-on baggage. Most airlines offer a personal item and a carry-on for free so I thought spirit did the same. Had I know that they didn't I wouldn't have flown spirit. Imagine my surprise as I am in the airport checking in for my flight at the kiosk and then I see a $55 carry on fee or I would have to pay $100 for it at the gate. I called the customer service to see if they could give me a refund for that fee but no dice. I had to get going and fly out. Spirit was the cheapest flight option for me but after I paid my carry-on bag fee it was the most expensive."

Cons: "Both my round trip flight from Boston to Chicago were canceled due to weather. I wasn't given any warning. The most I got was an email that said "your flight may have been canceled" after the time of when the flight was supposed to leave. I waited in lines for hours to get refunds. I didn't have time to wait a second hour and ended up buying a new flight with American. There were not enough employees to deal with the line of people waiting. We had to wait for two different groups of people flying to other cities to process their baggage. I left the line after an hour or else I would have missed my flight. They gave me a number to call in order to get a refund and this call has taken me about an hour and a lot of explaining, even though a refund was promised. It's too much to deal with. I won't fly with spirit again."

Pros: "Boarding was alright, pretty quick and that's about it."
Cons: "Well let's start at the check in, so I got to an airport about 40 minutes before my boarding(usually what I do when I fly with Southwest), went on to check in my bag, once I got there the receptionist was extremely rude, as well as uneducated on the layout of the gates, as soon as my bag got checked in she threw it off the scale and told me to move on as soon as I asked her why she is being so aggressive with my baggage. Then when I was boarding there were no smiles by the crew, the seats were extremely uncomfortable, and I was waiting for a water for about 15 minutes asked a crew member again and she responded with "You are not the only passenger here, I will bring you your water once I'm done with other passengers" and for the 15 minutes I did not see her help a single customer. I am so disappointed in this flight that I am not flying with them back, instead I spent just a bit more and will fly out of Chicago with a different airline. Avoid spirit airlines at all costs!"

Pros: "My flights to and from Chicago were mostly fine. We left and arrived on time, the crew was courteous. Totally met expectations for a budget flight."
Cons: "I lost my ID on this flight, and Spirit took zero action to help. I called, emailed, tweeted, submitted a form through the website. Nobody answered, for days. I finally went to the check in desk to speak to someone in person, and they checked to see if anything had been found. They said it hadn't, and there was no followup, at all. Nobody even took down my contact information in case it was found. Obviously it isn't Spirit's fault that I lost my ID. However, how they respond or fail to respond to their customers is totally within their control."

Pros: "Flight attendants were very pleasant and helpful !"
Cons: "That i have to print my BOARDING PASS The kiosks were inoperable and shut off and did not allow me to print my boarding pass for my 11:30pm flight. Nobody was there at the Spirit airline desk. I had to yell and wreak havoc to get a spirit airline personnel to print my boarding pass for me. This is highly inconvenient. Often times when you are traveling for work you don't have the time to go to a printer and print your boarding pass!! There are no personnel present to guide passengers or notify them about a gate change. No sign near the listed gate number. There are only two people and its insanely chaotic! Passengers have to just talk to each other and figure it out."

Pros: "Rey, our light attendant."
Cons: "When my husband and I checked out bag, we were told Gate D2. After walking the way to Gate D2, I learned through a casual conversation with a flight attendant that D2 was going to Florida, not Chicago. The screen at D2 was blank, so we had no idea. Turns out, we were supposed to be at Gate E34, so we raced back downstairs, caught the train to E, and ran all the way down another long hallway to Gate E34. I happen to have two heart stents and need a knee replacement, so I was in bad shape when I FINALLY made it to the CORRECT gate. I had to take a nitro pill once I sat down. It took a long time for my heart rate to return to normal. It is only by the caring efforts of Rey, our flight attendant, that my husband convinced me to stay with Spirit Airlines for our return flight."

Pros: "I'm sorry I can't think of something memorable to say I liked. The plane was somewhat newer and the stripped down seats weren't completely uncomfortable like we expected. This flight crew performing the pre-flight weren't annoyingly sassy and jaded as the ones on 1st leg of the trip."
Cons: "Out going flight we were charged $55 for 1st carry on bag besides personal carry-on. The return flight it was announced that that item had no additional fee. Who do I contact for refund? Extra fee ate any savings and we already packed light like hobos. Tray table was too small to support my reading material (5" by 12"). Just prior to landing there was some motor/hydraulic device that made a very loud annoying noise like a kazoo drowning out sound of fussy babies/children. The sound lasted about 15-20min; even 10min after landing. As an industrial mechanic, I know what those sounds can mean and it gave me the impression the plane wasn't in good mechanical shape. We didn't know that the low cost meant that all comfort and amenities would be cut too. Our experience will be a large factor in choosing airline for future travel."

Cons: "The flight attendant, Melissa, was rude, intrusive, and personally crossed the line. First, she rudely interrupted a personal conversation about the poor service upon boarding the flight and my concern that I had medicine still in the bag they had just snatched away from me and shoved into the overhead bin. As we spoke she Injected herself into our private conversation, asking in a condescending tone "excuse me, what was that?" with the ploy that she "thought" we were speaking to her although my partner and I were speaking in a quiet whisper very close to each other and she was two seats behind us. Then upon ordering a glass of wine from a male attendant and waiting patiently for it to come, Melissa approached me and expressed "concern" about what medicine I was taking and if I should be drinking. When I assured her that I had been prescribed this medicine for many years, was familiar with all of its side effects, that it was ok to have a drink while taking it, and was capable of making my own decisions, she stated that she was "worried" it may make me drowsy and that she would not serve me if that was the case. After this exchange I felt offended and violated. The medication I am on is of no ones business but my own and the doctor who prescribes it to me. I was a polite and rule following passenger who was singled out because I expressed my unhappiness privately to my partner. I will never fly Spirit Airlines again because of this incident and was very upset by her judgement and personal intrusion into my private conversations and medical concerns."

Pros: "The flight and crew were great!! Loved the safety presentation!!"
Cons: "We arrived at the gate about 10 minutes after the scheduled boarding time. There were no passengers in the waiting area. When I asked the Boarding Attendant if this was the correct flight she was VERY nasty to us and stated that the boarding was getting ready to close. (however the flight wasn't due to leave for another 30 minutes). She scanned our boarding passes with an attitude and we proceeded down the walkway where there was a line to board. Obviously we weren't THAT late. Unfortunately I didn't get her name."

Cons: "The crew members were rude and I felt inconvenienced by any request (only made one--for a beverage). I witnessed extreme rudeness of the crew members to other customers as well. The seats don't recline and are quite thin and hard. Without doubt, this was the most uncomfortable flight I've ever been on (as was the other flight on this trip on a spirit plane). I will not be flying spirit ever again. I paid for my checked bag 24 hrs in advance and still paid $42 dollars. I luckily had a printer where I was staying and could print my boarding pass to avoid being charged for that. All that being said, even with my planning and following "spirit 101" guidelines on their website, I ended up paying the same I would have had I flown another (more comfortable, less inconvenient) airline with better customer service."

Cons: "Spirit airlines claims it has the lowest fares. I had to pay more for this flight than my Delta flight. I was not impressed with the fact that you have to pay for your seats ($10) if you want to know where you're seated when you check in. That doesn't even make sense. Then you have to pay even for water! For goodness sake on a two hour flight that was already delayed by an hour they had nothing complimentary to give us. I was freezing the entire time back to Chicago. In fact I was very uncomfortable because I don't think that the seats even went back. I felt like I was hustled by Spirit airlines and will choose not to take them ever again."

Pros: "You can tell the planes have been updated and they were comfortable."
Cons: "All of the joking done by the stewards on the overhead microphone. Too many jokes and their content, it wasn't funny at that point it was unprofessional. Super disappointed about having my luggage left at my city of origin and the earliest I was offered to get it returned was in 24 hours! So I'm in a new city with no clothes at all and the rest of my continents that were in my suitcase. Arranging to have the suitcase dropped off is not enough to counter the worry and financial inconvenience that comes with not having your stuff. I am thoroughly disappointed and will never fly with spirit again"

Cons: "The flight to Chicago was fine, but getting home was another story. After delaying the flight about 1.5 hours the flight was cancelled. No real reason was given and no other airlines were canceling flights. When I called to get on the next flight, they said the earliest they could get me home to Boston was in 2 days. Everyone was frantically trying to rebook and the other airlines were selling out. Long story short, I ended up paying $270 for a flight to Providence via Charlotte on American Airline. My husband then drove the hour to Providence to pick me up. All in all....I am all set with Spirit Airlines."

Pros: "Crew was kind"
Cons: "the bag fees, seat choices, and additional amenities add up. What started as a 286$ flight, turned into almost 400. The ride was very uncomfortable as my fellow passengers had no regards to other people on the plane. The planes are not nice, which is unfortunate for long flights. We were re-routed due to low gas, but the information on getting us back on the plane was minimal and inefficient. The crew really needs to work on communication. What was supposed to be a 4 hour journey, turned into a 9 hour journey. Just not an ideal situation. Won't be flying Spirit again."

Cons: "This was one of the worst travel experiences in my life. After arriving to LGA, I found out that my flight was outright cancelled because the pilot no showed for his shift, and therefore all flights with that plane/crew were cancelled outright. While Spirit did offer to buy me a ticket on another airline, I had to wait on hold for over an hour for my call to be answered by the customer service team. The customer service member who finally answered my call was very polite, but told me that the next available flight to ORD was in two days. When I explained that this was not going to work for me, she then said that the next available flight was at 4pm and connected through DC (1. it was 8am at the time, and 2. I had originally purchased a direct flight). Since I needed to get home to Chicago that same day, I accepted this flight on American, even though I knew I would have 7+ hours to kill in the gate at LGA and there was a layover late in the day in DC (which means there was a chance I would be stuck in DC overnight if the evening flight didn't get out of DC). While waiting the 7 hours at LGA though, I learned that American Airlines has direct flights to Chicago every hour and that each one of those flights had plenty of available seats. Therefore I am extremely upset with Spirit for lying to me. Outright cancelling a flight is bad enough, but then to be untruthful when rebooking because of their company's mistake causing me to spend 13 hours traveling instead of the two initially intended, is completely unacceptable."

Pros: "Cheap base cost for ticket."
Cons: "Total cost ends up being >>>> Southwest after having a bag or two, whether it's checking in or carrying on. They charge for everything and everything is up charged so much - want a carry on? 55$. want to check it? 50$. realize that you want to carry it on but forgot to pay because you did it online? 100$ It's kind of like the Oprah of airline hidden fees. Start off at $15-20 cheaper than everyone else. Then all of a sudden - you get a bag charge, you get a bag charge, YOU ALL GET A BAG CHARGEEEEE!!"

Pros: "Nothing"
Cons: "Spirit cancelled our flight. Spent 4+ hours on the phone attempting to reschedule. After requesting to speak to a manager I was told I would get a call back within 3 to 24 hours. When I spoke to a manager, I was told that Spirit only had a flight available 2 days later, that I had waited too long to reschedule my flight (I called spirit immediately and waited in hold for hours), and that spirit would do nothing to offset the cost of having to spend two extra days waiting for the flight they offered me 48 hours later than scheduled. We cancelled our flight and spent extra money booking last minute flights on another airline. Will never fly spirit again and will advise anyone that's asks to do the same."

Cons: "Very disappointing.. 1. Lot of hidden charges ($45 for carry on luggage per side) 2. Charges to select seats 3. No complimentary drinks. Even water was for $3 4. They do not accept mobile boarding passes. You need to get a print out of your boarding pass. I mean that is amazing. 5. The most disgusting moment was when i came to know that there was a chewing gum on my tshirt when i removed seat belt. I came to know that it was already there on seat belt. Not sure whose fault it is. Cleaning staff or traveler ? Overall very disappointed with spirit airlines... Will never ever use this airlines again."

Cons: "We arrived 55 minutes prior to our flight,which had been delayed. They told us there was no room on the flight, and that we should have been there 45 minutes prior to our SCHEDULED departure time, not the actual departure time with the delay. They offered us a flight the next morning, but then said that was booked as well. We asked how we were supposed to know about this scheduled departure rather than actual departure and they said they sent an e-mail. I never got it and I called customer service. They said they had not been able to e-mail me because kayak hadn't given them my e-mail address. THey also said that the desk attendants wrote that we arrived late, at 5:30, when actually we were there at 5:15. They refused to refund us our money because it's a non-refundable flight."
