I was fortunate to be able to move from my center seat to an aisle seat once the flight was in progress. As soon as I did, the air around me was cooler and made for more comfortable breathing. In the center seat, the air was still and close—very uncomfortable. Poor communication regarding passport control protocol at the departure gate: A temporary station was set up, labeled Passport Control, but no SWISS agent announced what was happening. I had just gone through a passport control line on a lower level so I didn't think I had to go through a similar process at the gate. Most people around me also didn't know whether they had to go through the process at the gate. Once agents had been questioned on the subject several times, they should have made a general announcement to inform everyone at the gate. They did not. The food on the plane was the usual poor quality fare for economy class—either highly processed or overcooked and much too salty. Ugh."

When we reached our gate, we then waited in a long line to have our passports and boarding passes checked again. There were several Swissair crew members, but only one person to check all of the paperwork for economy. Then another long line to show our boarding passes again, while the business class entrance remained unused. Swissair needs someone to manage this better."

Idea was she would place the dog on the table space next to her seat. It would be exactly the same for both seats. Do not know what they were thinking. There were other business class seats on the other side that had the table space ext to the window away from the aisle. That would make sense for the lady with dog. Business class was full and I was the last to get on, 45 minute connection in Zurich from terminal A to E, my seat was given. But as I objected, they moved the dog lady and gave me back my seat. But they never asked a person in the seat that would have made sense to give her to trade seats."

I have gold status on Star Alliance, which got me an upgrade from Bishkek to Istanbul, but didn't help on this flight."

New regulations will make me reconsider using Turkish airline for US bound flights, although it's a great company, unless they find a more comfortable and organized way to do the security check."

Cons: "According to the Turkish Airlines site they offer free accommodations to passengers who have over 10 hr layover in Istanbul if you are an economy passenger. I was under this impression that I would fall under this category because when I initially booked the ticket (JFK - IST - LIS and return LIS - IST - JFK) my layover back to JFK was 18 hours. Two weeks prior to leaving for my trip I received a notification saying that the layover will be extended to 34 hours. Seeing that my layover was extended, I thought that Turkish Airline would offer me accommodation for both nights. When I arrived to IST (10:30pm local time) I went to the Turkish Airline transfer desk in which they said they would not allow me to have the 2 nights accommodation. After about an hour and half of discussion they could only offer me one night accommodation and changed my flight to an earlier flight. The attendant who was serving me told me to wait by the kiosk until my name was called. At the 30 minute mark I tried to ask another kiosk attendant to see what the status was and he replied back in a very rude manner saying he has no idea what I'm referring to and that essentially was not his problem. After another hour and half of waiting and seeing other frustrated passengers going to the transfer desk and not being helped, I went on the queue to see what the status of my ticket was. They finally gave me my ticket and at this point it was close to 1am. Thankfully I did research before hand and under the assumption that I was going to spend a day in Istanbul, spent $20 and got a Turkish visa prior to my travel, which according the the turkish consulate website that you can no longer get a visa while in the airport. I finally reached the airport hotel at 2:30am but the airport shuttle was to arrive in 4 hours to shuttle all the passengers back. So not only did I deal with a rude staff, but I paid $20 to be in Turkey for about 4 hours in an airport hotel."

The crew was not as attentive and was not helpful in assisting the grandmother who was sitting next to me with her 2-year-old grandson who wanted to know if another seat was available. There was only once choice for the meals, which I found odd on a long international flight, but I did enjoy the meals. The plane was older than the one I took from New York and were less comfortable. I don't usually have a problem with legroom (I'm pretty average height at 5'5"), but the legroom on this flight was noticeably smaller."

Usually if someone gets skipped, they just go back and get a single cup, but this lady was determined not to. Never had this happen in 55 years of flying. Serious caffine deficiency."

On the way in they had vegetarian options but nothing but meat options on the way back. I totally forgot to ask for vegetarian meals when booking my flight, but luckily there were enough items to get me through the flights. A wonderful flight and crew.

Pros: "Nice aircraft and comfortable seating in economy with a good selection of music and movies on the seat back entertainment. Business class was mostly empty and looked very nice and roomy. They should upgrade their frequent flyers the way other airlines do to fill those empty seats and generate the good PR that results. The food was good in my opinion, and the Ethiopian coffee is great. Affordably priced tickets was the selling point for choosing them. They are a young airline and while they go through the motions of being a modern service-oriented airline, but alas for the most part they aren't there yet."
Cons: "We've flown a few Ethiopian Air flights now and while the flight attendants are nice, they aren't always on top of things and paying attention to the needs of the passengers. Not as helpful or attentive as we're used to. Boarding is chaotic and the overnight transfer at Addis Ababa is a total mess. If you get to leave through the airport in the early morning things are relatively painless, but what a nightmare of pushing and shoving chaos when it's busy. The hotels they put you up in are mediocre at best. Last week we enjoyed a long wait for the bus ride to the hotel, cold food when we arrived, and a nice hard bed to "sleep" in. We probably won't fly Ethiopian Air if we have to overnight in Addis Ababa again. I'm willing to pay up to fly another airline and skip the overnight as it's just not worth the hassle."
Pros: "The airline was quick to give vouchers for food and hotel when flight was delayed by 5 hours. They were also efficient in rebooking missed connecting flight."
Cons: "On top of a five hour delay that got me to my arrival point 14 hours behind schedule, my two checked bags were also lost and have not been found up to two days later. The food was like being on a Delta flight, and the entertainment screens in my entire row would not work, nor did many others."

Cons: "Hi, I have asked 3 members of the crew to get me a glass of water from the time I boarded the flight. It took 45 minutes for them to hand me a glass of water. I have to wait till they all got settled. Only when them to start the service they were able to give me some water. I was really thirsty otherwise, I wouldn't have to ask for three members. I think it's important that they respond more promptly and do a quick service considering the long flight we have."

Cons: "Just about everything. Not only were both flights delayed, one without notice, both the check-in and boarding processes were obscenely long with no obvious reason. On board, the staff was very pleasant but took almost 20 minutes to respond to a page and I only paged them one time. The screens for entertainment had a lot of trouble reading touch for both my seatmate and I and the selections were very limited. My seat did not recline which made for a very uncomfortable flight as I had hoped to be able to sleep. They lost one of my bags and somehow still have not found it more than 36 hours later."
Pros: "We were delayed boarding slightly, delayed sat on a steaming gate shuttle then sat on the tarmac for a couple of hours while storms passed. But the crew gave regular updates, provided food and water, allowed us to walk about. It was as plesent as such a situation could be."

Cons: "1. There is a security check just prior to boarding at the gate in Brussels that is not known about in advance. The process is not organized, nor did I (along with other passengers) understand why another checkpoint was being unexpectedly required.. 2. The food onboard (main meal - beef and snack - calzone) were not good; although they were served hot, they were bland and unappetizing. Contrary to popular belief, not all airplane food is "bad". 3. And finally, the restrooms were not kept clean during the flight - I had never seen that on any of the nternational airlines I've taken over several years."

The checking process was horrible (the airport is not properly designed, managed, poor information systems) I will gladly go through the mad house in Heathrow, or long walks at Schiphol, but not interested in Brussels."

One flight attendent got upset or acted a little nasty because I asked her for another custom border slip. She said was going to bring one but I guess she forgot and an atleast 30 minutes to an hour went by till I asked her again and she got nasty. The same lady along with the other flight attendants snatched trash out peoples hands like they were diseased...and they had gloves on. When it came to entertainment they didnt have much variety. Cons: "i went to the (galley?) at the back and politely requested a drink, a member of staff refused me because they were just about to begin serving drinks. that's stupid. i was sat right at the back of the plane and wouldn't get a drink for at least 20 minutes because service starts in the middle and works back. fortunately another member of staff (older, female) just reached over and handed me a drink, because she understood it was easier and quicker and more reasonable to do that than to be a dick about it."

Cons: "The flight left 50 minutes after it was scheduled to leave. We were sitting on the hot aircraft the entire time because the crew would not turn on the air. In addition, the host and his service was terrible. When I asked him for water, he told me that I could find it at the back of the flight and I should go get it myself. The other hostess on the other side was handing out waters to whoever needed it. When a passenger sitting next to me asked for a spoon to eat his meal, the host shrugged his shoulders and didn't come back with one. He was blatantly rude and ignored his passenger. We were also not given blankets on an 7-8 hour flight. It was only on request. People who had requested one were then asked to fold and return their blankets (they were not asked kindly) before landing. The selection of tv, music, and shows on board were terrible as well. Barely any selection. Needless to say, this was the worst service I have ever had on an airline."

I am short and has absolutely no room for myself or even my iPad and headphones. Horrible experience. Never flying with Brussels airlines on a transatlantic again!"
