Nothing. Absolutely nothing, it was completely horrible!!!

Everything was delayed by at least 1 hour. The flight delay was announced at 11pm the day of, but the passengers weren’t situated in a hotel until 3am. And the flight didn’t arrive until 11pm the next day!! A 15hr delay! And because I had a connecting flight, the delay made me have to spend ANOTHER extra night in the airport, AND never compensated me for the connecting flight ticket which I had to purchase another one of.

The booking itinerary did not specify that there would be a layover in Jinan. Even though there was, it would have made more sense to allow the continuing passengers to stay on the plane rather than forcing everyone to go through customs at this point.

This ridiculous airline and it's rude, obnoxious staff in Chengdu made a mockery of my friend and I (two 21 year old American girls traveling alone). We had booked round trip tickets back in October 2017 that included a 1 hour layover in Chengdu first, then a 7 hour layover in Shanghai on our way to Bangkok for a trip in Thailand. That was fine with us. Then all of a sudden it changed to a 6 hour layover in Chengdu then an 18 HOUR layover in Shanghai. We decided to deal with it and get a hotel room in Shanghai, no big deal. After a great trip in Thailand and leaving fine from Bangkok to our first layover in Chengdu, that is where the nightmare started. First off, going through Chengdu customs, I don't know if it is because Americans do not travel through there a lot, but the officers pulled us aside and were passing around our American passports around their staff, taking pictures of them with Iphones before handing us "in-transit" paperwork to fill out. As weird as that was, no one really seemed to speak english and we just wanted to get away from them and get through. When we went to the check in counter, they handed me a boarding pass for our flight at 1:50 that afternoon, but then proceeded to tell my friend that she wasn't on a flight until the next morning at 7 am out of Chengdu and our original connecting flight out of Shanghai at 11:50 the next morning was now at 8 pm for her. What could have been simply fixed like it WAS after calling priceline and our travel agent, the staff at the ticket counter and a representative over the phone made our lives living hell. They barely spoke english and the ones that did were very rude to us, saying that they couldn't help us and put us on the phone with China Eastern. FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF we were on the phone with a representative who was talking us in circles, telling us that there were no available seats on the 1:50 and that he could get her on the next 3:45 out of Chengdu, then put us on hold to come back and say he couldn't only change 1 domestic flight in China, but would have to cancel her flight to NY. When offering to pay to just DO IT and get out of china, he said that if he were to cancel it and take our credit card info, it "may or may not go through" and if it didn't she would be stuck with no flights. When asked how that made any sense, he proceeds to say" Because miss, our system sucks," and other rude things like "Why can't you just keep your flight and meet your friend in NY." then him along with a rude ticket counter guy say that he could help us if we took 5,000 yuan out of the bank and paid them cash. TRYING TO SCAM US. After all this drama a simple call to priceline was able to fix the problem no payment involved, and there WERE available seats on all the flights and a domestic flight could be changed. LYING, SCAMMING, RUDE, individuals. Definitely worth a little more money to take any other airline BUT THIS ONE.

The flight boarded on time, and arrived only approx. 30 minutes late for a 15 hour flight. The staff were friendly and seemed well-meaning.

It seemed that the staff for the NY-Chengdu did not include anyone who spoke English beyond a few memorized phrases. Another passenger and I were standing in the back and speaking, and the crew asked her to tell me that we weren't allowed to stand there and had to return to our seats. Their lack of English would be a problem if there were an emergency of any sort. The flight attendant tried to wake me several times to give me my vegetarian meal. When I was finally awake enough to eat he said the food was no longer good, I should wait until the next meal time. Entertainment options for the NY-Chengdu flight were limited - current or recent English options were few. Foreign language (mostly Chinese) options had subtitles, but few looked like there would be an interesting and fun storyline. The entertainment system was broken for the Chengdu-Beijing flight.

I had about 30 minutes to change planes in Beijing cause of the flight delay (still had to switch terminals, check in and go through the border). I was met by an airline representative near the plane with a special bus and accompanied through all the bureaucracy very quickly. Excellent airline staff.

Only two check-in counters were available. The waiting time for check in was, therefore, quite long, and the time was very tight until the boarding. The seat allocation was horrible, and I was surrounded by nasty neighbors, who were chatting throughout the 10+hour flight, even after my verbal warning, not to mention the way children were taken care of. I am not blaming children making noise. I am blaming the lack of control over the parents who bring noisy toys for children and play videos loud enough to disturb the neighbor's sleep throughout the flight.

The flight was 40 mins late and because of that, I missed my connection from Hong Kong to San Francisco. Your company then offered me and my friend a hotel stay and transportation to and from the hotel., which was good. I appreciated your company taking care of us. However, it is really bothersome to miss an international connection to go home after a long trip.

My flight was delayed by 2 hours so I missed my connecting flight in Singapore. There was a huge queue of people who missed their connecting flight cos of an accident in the runway. The airline did nothing to prepare for this situation. It took hours to get another flight organised, communication was non existent and refreshments took ages to come. Airline didn't help with finding a hotel for stranded passengers.

The airplane was over booked, there was not enough food for everyone, the food was stale and expired, the bathrooms exuded a stench to which you had to endure throughout the entore flight, there was not enough crew so requesting things took very long and we had turbulence for 90% of the flight, on a flight that was 11 hours long.

Only two check-in counters were available. The waiting time for check in was, therefore, quite long, and the time was very tight until the boarding. The seat allocation was horrible, and I was surrounded by nasty neighbors, who were chatting throughout the 10+hour flight, even after my verbal warning, not to mention the way children were taken care of. I am not blaming children making noise. I am blaming the lack of control over the parents who bring noisy toys for children and play videos loud enough to disturb the neighbor's sleep throughout the flight.

The UA rep gave poor directions for transferring in Seoul; we ended up nearly missing the flight (and other UA passengers did miss it despite VN holding the plane for 40-plus minutes). The crew was helpful and friendly, defusing a truly stressful situation.

the movie selection

the seats are so closely packed any inclination inconveniences the person seated behind. in all respects save for the name and price this replicated a cheap budget airline. i expected more from SA. the flight crew was brusque and made it appear that they were grudgingly doing one s personal favor rather than their job

The flight boarded on time, and arrived only approx. 30 minutes late for a 15 hour flight. The staff were friendly and seemed well-meaning.

It seemed that the staff for the NY-Chengdu did not include anyone who spoke English beyond a few memorized phrases. Another passenger and I were standing in the back and speaking, and the crew asked her to tell me that we weren't allowed to stand there and had to return to our seats. Their lack of English would be a problem if there were an emergency of any sort. The flight attendant tried to wake me several times to give me my vegetarian meal. When I was finally awake enough to eat he said the food was no longer good, I should wait until the next meal time. Entertainment options for the NY-Chengdu flight were limited - current or recent English options were few. Foreign language (mostly Chinese) options had subtitles, but few looked like there would be an interesting and fun storyline. The entertainment system was broken for the Chengdu-Beijing flight.

Everything was clean and well appointed. The air attendants were helpful and friendly. The seat was fine and they provide a nice little back pillow & blanket in economy. The food was tasty and simple which is good for long flights. Not overly salted. I found it to be a satisfying experience in economy.

The flight was smooth, once we began. There were few bumps.

I did NOT like having to wait almost two hours to board, and the constant "We expect to have our computer system up in 'a few minutes' " was really annoying.

We stopped in NAO (Nanchong) for about an hour and it was quite a sketch experience.

Flight attendants very attentive, courteous and professional. Even while children were sleeping during meal distribution. We were offered sandwiches for them to eat later. Phone can now be used in airplane mode. USB charger via screen.

Monitors sometimes turn on. Harder to give rest to eyes when lights turn on all monitors.

The staff are very efficient and professional. The food was much better than I expected. We were given pillows and blankets . Bathrooms were clean .

The only issue with CEA was checking in and boarding. It was brutal coming out of Bangkok. I’m not sure if this is the fault of CEA or Bangkok Airport.

The crew was nice

Nothing worked on the flight and the food was poor. When we arrived in a massive rain storm we had to disembark the plane with stairs so we all got wet.
