Customer service via phone is completely useless (after a 30 minute wait time). They put me in a hotel and told me to get my bag in the morning when getting on my next flight to GUA. Got there @ 1000 and the avianca baggage office AND the ticketing counter aren’t staffed until 1130 am!!!!! Had to leave the country having no idea where my bag was, now stuck in GUA without it. I’m beyond exhausted and will NEVER AGAIN do business with avianca under ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Terrible doesn’t begin to describe it."

Pros: "We booked a flight in December to meet my daughter and son in law in Cancun on Avianca. We have not traveled very much internationally and wanted to schedule our flights to arrive close to the time my daughter and son-in-law were arriving from Colorado to Cancun on their flight. We had booked this flight especially because of the closeness of the two arrival times. When we got to the airport to check in for flight we were told that the flight was overbooked and that we were being put on a Aeromexico flight that had to go through Mexico City with an arrival time in Cancun that was 4 to 5 Later than originally planned. My daughter and son-in-law were just about to board their flight in Denver to Cancun and had to scramble to arrange transportation to be able to meet us at the airport so that they didn’t have to wait for five hours in Cancun for us. We were only compensated with $14 that expired the same day to use in the airport for a wat later than originally planned. Several passengers were told their connecting flight would definitely be held for them. A few of us asked for a guarantee because we would rather pay to rebook another flight than get stuck, and the gate attendents at JFK said it was certain we would make our flights. Once we got to El Salvador we were told they never intended to hold our flights. Avianca agents there told the handful of us going to Cancun we we're rebooked on Copa Airline and would have to go to Panama first, then Cancun, and arrive around 10 pm instead of 11 am. Other passengers were stuck in El Salvador for even longer. For our trouble, they only offered a $70 voucher for Avianca which is essentially useless to most of us since it has extensive restrictions. On top of this, the plane seating was small and the food was terrible. When we got switched to Copa there was at least slightly more leg room and better food. Do not fly Avianca!!"

ALSO, once I got my new passport (17 hours later) I was told that I had to pay $170 penalty for moving my departure day and $680 because I had to adjust to the new ticket price. At that point I decide to buy a new ticket with a different airline. AVIANCA SUCKS!!! They are NOT very accommodating at all. Will not recommend this agency and I WILL NEVER ever again will use their service."

On the return to El Salvador, ticket agents made me purchase a one-way return to the United States, claiming that I would not be allowed to enter El Salvador otherwise since I do not have residency there. Despite repeatedly explaining to them that I had done this multiple time before on other airlines, and that immigration in El Salvador does NOT ask for proof of return, they would not let me board unless I purchased a return ticket to the United States. As expected, I was NOT asked for ANY proof of return when entering El Salvador. The Avianca staff was uninformed, wrong, and rude. They showed no interest in listening to us or helping us solve this problem. I will now have to call and cancel this ticket, and fight to get the $25 ticketing fee refunded. Do not expect great service from Avianca."
Everything went very well. The crew and flight attendants were awesome. A 1hour and 20 minute flight. Enjoyed it, one step closer to home! 😃

Then they stated they would send my confirmation via email 24-48 hours. 3 days later and the confirmation still never came. SO I had to call again and wait another half hour. No point in booking through a 3rd party for that type of hassle."

It took FOREVER to get to a person to fix this over the phone. This is the day and age everyone wants to send you through every possible automated prompt before getting a real person. The flight itself was fine, getting to be able to get on it was a giant pain."

Cons: "We had all sorts of issues with this trip. I booked flights months in advance because I liked the flight times and the fact they offered a direct flight. I was then contacted by the airline to say that they had to change the flight times, which unfortunately no longer worked for our trip as we were leaving on a cruise… Both the departing and returning flights were affected. This caused us to have to stay an extra night in Orlando as the flight was too early for us to be able to depart our cruise ship and get to the airport. They did offer us $50 vouchers per passenger for the inconvenience but that did not nearly cover the cost of the hotel or transportation that was needed. Boarding for our departing flight seemed fine. We arrived at the airport an hour and a half before our flight with no issues. However when we arrived in Orlando the airline had lost all five of our suitcases containing everything we needed for our week long cruise that was departing the next day. The airline could not tell us what happened to the bags or where they were, or when they would arrive. We were forced to spend our extra day in Orlando shopping and replacing clothing items and swimsuits for the cruise. It was a huge pain and inconvenience and put a huge damper on our trip. They did offer a reimbursement amount per passenger per day that we were without luggage but I have a little confidence that I will ever see this money. The lady in the baggage office was as helpful as could be but it was clear that this happens far too often. I also did not like how you are nickel and dimed for everything on this airline… You have to purchase seats to ensure your family will get to sit together, pay a higher amount for checked baggage than other airlines, pay for carry-on bags ( in retrospect I should have done this since they lost our checked bags) and you have to pay for any drinks (including soda or juice) and snacks while in flight. This was our first time flying frontier airlines and the whole experience was a major turn off."

Pros: "When I told people I was taking Frontier, they scoffed, rolled their eyes, and joked that I'd have to pay to use the bathroom. Well, it wasn't THAT bad. In fact, I got an assigned seat (in contrast to Southwest). Plane was fairly new, and the seat wasn't too small (then again, not super big). One flight attendant tried to make the atmosphere festive since we were going to Vegas and some people got absolutely shit-faced on the flight. I thought this was kind of cool, but I'm sure some people were annoyed since the drunks got VERY loud. For the price, I would definitely go to Vegas from Indy on Frontier again."

OK, I can see charging for a Coke, but water? I thought there was a law saying airlines HAD to provide water on request for health reasons. Flight was not even on the screen at the airport, and once a monitor showed the flight it didn't indicate it was late. Pay for choosing a seat, bucket seats that don't recline, pay for you to have a bag, pay for water... feels like gimmicks to charge more because they offer such low fares. Also, Frontier is notorious for delays which can interfere with plans and was experienced on outgoing flight."

I usually would not mind that there was NO service, not even water, but, again, this flight was so close to another that it was impossible not to compare. I will not be flying with Frontier again."

Cons: "I have never flown Frontier before, and I never will again. First off, I always travel light and never check bags. This usually means I can check in via the kiosk right away with flights, but this was NOT the case with Frontier. For some unknown reason, I had to check in with the desk agent. There was a line. A LONG line. Not only that, but there actually weren't any desk agents, as they don't show up until 2 hours prior to the flight. It took over an hour to accomplish a task which usually takes less than a minute, and due to the long line I barely made it to my flight, despite showing up at the airport 2 and half hours early. Flight #1 - Like I said, I have never flown Frontier. I didn't know it was possible to make an airplane so uncomfortable. I understand it is a budget airline, but there are ZERO comforts. The seats are grey plastic, completely rigid and with no tilt. They are crammed together so close that finding any sort of sleeping position is nearly impossible. The fact that you have to pay an extra $30 for ONE carry on and then pay for ANY sort of drink/snack equates to actually paying about the same for a flight with another airline. Want to check an item? You're actually paying MORE than you wold with another airline. Flight #2 - Took off over an hour and half LATE because the system was down. The gate agents literally read off EVERY NAME one by one, over 200 people, to check them in and get them on the plane. They also filled the plane from back to front, which is proven to be the SLOWEST way to board passengers on a plane. Flight #3 - This was an early flight. 6am. I woke up with an email alert from Frontier saying that the flight was delayed until 7:30. Understandably, I was upset. This would cause me to miss my connecting flight. Luckily, I decided to go the airport anyway instead of getting another hour of sleep. Good thing too, because the flight was in fact NOT delayed. If I had heeded the alert email, I would have missed my flight for being late. Flight #4 - This flight, on the other hand, WAS delayed. 2 hours. The gate was changed 3 times and another aircraft had to be found due to malfunctions with the first. Honestly, I don't understand how Frontier is still in business. Worst travel experience of my life. I will never fly Frontier again and I have already started telling all of my friends not to use their services. -Adam"

I have never taken the time to give an airline a bad review, but if I can save another person the hassle and inconvenience we experienced it is worth it."
Cons: "Every time we fly with Frontier we are always delayed for hours. My husband did not even want to fly with Frontier but i told him this time may be different but I was wrong. Flight was suppose to leave at 9pm we didnt leave until close to 12am. Also, I am pregnant so I was so looking forward to arriving on time and getting food and into bed. (restaurants close at 8 at the Indianapolis airport) Very disappointing will be the last time we fly Frontier."

Cons: "Coming from MCO to Indianapolis, I was given the wrong boarding pass and almost missed the plane. I had to be escorted by a nice man who kindly called the flight attendant to hold the plane in order to make sure I was on it. Amongst thus chaos, I was able to bring my carry on free of charge. This was the same bag of which I was bringing back with me. I went to Indianapolis for a funeral. So, we didn't have a so called vacation. Thus, I did not partake in any shopping. Needless to say, I didn't have any new items to carry on. The bagage was the same size and weight as my flight there. WheN I went to get a boarding pass I was mislead. There were Frontier attendants yelling as passengers about the size of their bagage and the price of it. So, I took my boarding pass to the gate. When I went to board, the lady who yelled at another passenger told me my bag would cost $60 to bring on the plane. I told her I carried it on for free on my trip there. She said if I didn't pay the $60, I couldn't get on the plane. So, I went online and told her I that it said I could pay much less online and I asked her if I could go that route instead, considering the situation. She wasn't by any means trying to work with me. I asked to speak with a manager and was never able to. So I asked for a customer service number. Before boarding the plane, I was able to get ahold of a frontier representative that said I could pay much less over the phone with them. So, while on the phone I mentioned this to the lady checking me in at the gate. She was not pleased by this. So she told me that if I don't pay the $60 I couldn't board the plane. Well, the plane was about to leave, so I went ahead and paid the fee. While a boarding the plane, someone was already in my seat. Since the last hour of my day was so chaotic, I told the flight attendant I could sit in the row ahead which was completely empty to avoid any more conflict. She refused and had the lady more over a seat. Once I sat and the plane was ready to go, the lady next to me told me about how rude the flight attendant was to another passenger who asked if she could move seats due to having to sit next to someone who made it uncomfortable due to weight distribution. So I became clear to me that I wasn't carrying my previous frustrating into analyzing this current situation. Proceeding for take off, the seat belt light turned off. In the need for something to take my mind off things, I looked over at the empty row of seats in front of me and proceeded to sit in one next to the window. I was enjoying to view and moments later, the same flight attendant says to me, these seats aren't for passengers. I look over and see a young man sitting at the window seat down that same row and mention to her that there seems to be an occupied seat in the same row. She gives me a digruntled look and proceeds to tell me I'm not authorized to sit there. So I go back to my seat. this was enough for me. I was yelled at once trying to get her info."

Cons: "Frontier added cost for EVERYTHING. Pay to choose seat, pay for carry-on, poor information concerning what constitutes a carry-on, pay for a drink of bag of nuts. I'm surprised they didn't charge me extra to use the reading light."

Pros: "I was very impressed by the fact that military get 100 lbs of free check baggage. I was moving a considerable amount of gear and this save me from a ton of fees."
Cons: "Comfort is what you sacrifice flying economy with frontier. By no means was the flight terrible, but the seats do not recline and the tray tables looked small and cheap. Additionally this is no in flight entertainment of any kind to include wifi."

The arm rests are like daggers, almost no space in the seat pocket, and the tray "table?" You're kidding us with this, right? I will not purchase a ticket for a flight on Frontier that is longer than 3 hours. There is no way my body could take that. Hate the "a-la-carte" business. Give us a complimentary beverage - at least. Come on! I can see making us pay for overhead baggage - you'll squeeze every last penny out of that one, but making people pay to choose a regular seat? I think that's excessive greed."

Cons: "March trip to Orlando should consider types of travelers - families with small kids. Flight delayed over 2 hours, baggage pickup took an hour. Kids over tired. Argument between grandmother with small kids on couple without kids occurred while waiting to deplane. Seems like flight priority should be altered. Had to wait on flight from Denver? I am sure that flight did not have nearly as many small children on that flight. Early flight to Orlando would make more sense to me. Why an hour for baggage? Due to delay, several of us lost our rental car reservations in Orlando."

Locals=in the dark. $15 food credit each is a good start. $100 each emailed so quickly is impressive but it's a credit to a bare bones airline that charges you for a water after their 6 hrs issue. Could have made snacks and non alc drinks free. NO NO NO. We had to pay another $11 for water, apple juice, food and GL of wine. SERIOUSLY. WANT TO MAKE IT RIGHT??? Missed several opportunities for "Little things that count". Give all $300 to one of us for a free ticket-we won't be flying with our grandson again. I will give you a chance to fix that. Not a threat a promise."

Consequently I'm trying to sleep in a chair in the terminal of MCO because Frontier wouldn't step up to the plate and help with a hotel, let alone pay the $250 it's going to cost me to re-ticket my trip. I can't afford that. God only knows when or if I'll ever reach Brazil. So much for my Dream Vacation. Never, ever do I plan on flying them again."

Never again it was insulting all the money I spent to be treated with zero compassion or respect. Other passengers were trying to get in hold of employees to file numerous complaints. No one was at either customer service desks in the terminal. Just horrible."

Cons: "The equipment (aircraft) and company policies are geared for profit and definitely not customer service. I was acceptably comfortable only because I paid an extra premium for my seat. The base priced seats are so close together that even at my short 5'5" it is impossible to move while sitting. This is unhealthy for any flight but especially so for a long flight."

So even though I bought the ticket last week and showed up over an hour early when I got on the flight there were no seats, the seat they said they gave to me 19A was filled with another passenger with a ticket saying 19A so they also did not know what they were doing. The crew told me to sit anywhere, but three of us ended up having to get off the plane. I ended up being stuck in Los Angeles and missing a million $ meeting. No appology, no credit for future flights was made or even attempted by the crew. I'm considering a lawsuit to be honest unless some very quick and good service is provided. The crew was rude and stressed and all about leaving on time. HORRIBLE."

When we arrived the lines were out of the door and we had to stand outside with no shade in 90 degree heat for half an hour until the line finally led us inside. We flew with Spirit two years ago to Mexico and experienced exactly the same issues. We thought this might have been a one off and so gave them another try this year. Never again. There are never enough agents at the desk and $50.00 per bag is ridiculous. For three of us, $300.00, OUTRAGOUS! I looked for lines at other airline desks and there were none. Don't be pulled in by the prospect of a cheaper flight. By the time you have taken into consideration all the extra charges for luggage, checking in online and selecting your seats, one of the most expensive carriers in the airline business. Seats don't recline and no padding!"

Cons: "The flight from St. Thomas to Ft. Lauderdale was delayed by 4 hours. The St. Thomas desk crew tried their best, but clearly had no training in this sort of thing - they were in complete disarray. Because our connecting flights would be missed, they promised us food and hotel vouchers for Ft. Lauderdale - then these never materialized. Then they promised we could pick them up right when we got off the plane in Ft. Lauderdale. When we arrived, staff just shrugged and told us to go to the ticket counter and see what we could get. There we were told to wait in a line that took over an hour to get through; we rebelled and insisted on getting the vouchers immediately. It still took half an hour, we finally got them at midnight. The folks who waited in line never did get hotel vouchers - the airline had 'run out of them' - meaning they had run out of vouchers at the preferential rate they'd negotiated, and were unwilling to pay extra for these beleagured passengers. So those passengers stayed in the airport all night, furious over empty promises and terrible customer service."
