Cons: "There was a storm at our destination, Panama City and we were unable to land on time ultimately missing our connecting flight. The crew gave us little to no communication about the situation and when asked they said our connecting flights would wait for us. When we finally did land there was not a gate available. We had to wait for a bus to pick us up and drive to a gate, this took at least 30 minutes. When we finally got to the gate of our connecting flight, we were only 15-20 minutes late. Our flight had already left and the staff directed us to the information desk for assistance. They sent us in the wrong direction. When we got to the correct desk we waited for an hour and a half to be seen, there were at least 30 people behind us. They offered us a flight that wouldn’t arrive to our final destination, San Francisco, for two days. We opted to have them fly us to Miami and then had to purchase our own flight from Miami to San Francisco. When we boarded our flight to Miami later that night we had to wait for over an hour for other passengers and bags that were delayed. Our bags are missing and we had to wait in an another hour long line to submit a claim. Overall it’s been a complete nightmare."

Got to counter 43 minutes before departure time (no security line, could have made it to gate 40 minutes before boarding time). Spirit Airlines staff refused to allow 13 passengers to board the flight, as we all stood there shocked. They said their systems do not allow them to print boarding passes within 45 mins of the flight. They probably had over-booked the flight. Everyone was entirely out the money, had to book new flights. Cost me and my wife $1,000."

Pros: "Here's the thing... With Spirit you know what you're getting. It has the least leg-room of any airline in North America and virtually no services. If you're bringing a bag of any kind you may be better off traveling with a competing airline. There won't be complimentary snacks or beverages and there won't be in flight entertainment. Make sure you bring your own, and be sure you know how long you can be comfortable on a flight that feels more like a long distance bus than an airline. That said, if you can get away with what you can carry in a small backpack and you aren't bothered by the possibility of cancellations or delays then nothing beats the price of a Spirit flight. The flight attendants and other staff are consistently friendly and helpful, and improvements have been made in their on-time record. Spirit is low cost, low frills. You get what you pay for, and if all you're paying for is transportation this is a good option."

The plane was still boarding, I was standing in front of my seat, not in the aisle, so passengers could continue to pass by. Very rude."

Customer service was rude and it took five hours standing in line to talk to someone at the airport. I ended up having to fly to a different city and drive to an a half hours in the other direction to get my car that was at the airport I flew out of originally. Never Fly Spirit Airlines no matter how cheap the flight is. You'll end up paying a lot more in the long run when they cancel your flight. This airline will be out of business in less than a year. I guarantee it!"

I was told that I needed to check in my bag because it had wheels and I was told that I had to pay a penalty because I didn't check my bag before security. $65!!! On my return flight, Spirit called and told me my flight was cancelled and offered me $40 for my troubles or I could pay for 2 more nights at my hotel and get their next available. I was outraged at their lack of service!! If I could find an earlier flight would they honor my ticket?They said they would charge me $100 penalty to change flights!!! I had to DRIVE HOME, 12 hours. When I called TSA in Kansas City I was told the same. So when I arrived at the airport they were announcing thaty flight was boarding, I went to baggage counter and was told I had to take my case on the plane, TSA security told me to take it to baggage counter. I told TSA I'd already been there, the 2 of them start arguing back and forth about my bag, if they would have taken my bag when I 1st went to turn it in, it would have been on the plane with me. However because they'd called final boarding, all my stuff got left in Kansas City. I've already called the airline to see if my bag made it to Vegas or not but haven't found out yet. As they have nt called me back. Oh the man in front of me was on my same flight & how nag made it on the plane. Extremely annoying for this to happen when it could've ALL been avoided as there was no one else behind me."

I immediately cancelled the trip with them and the rep on the phone had the audacity to ask if I wanted to join their $9 fair club. To make matters worse I spent 4 hours getting my luggage back so my mother could have her medicine for the evening. Around midnight the airline sent me a $50 email voucher for each of us to rebook another flight with them. What a joke..."
