Overall the experience was fine. Air India domestically and to Nepal is so much better than its predecessor Indian Airlines was decades ago. It's night and day. The plane - an A320 - was fine. In-flight staff was professional and did a good job. Food was offered. Nothing much to complain about. Security is taken very seriously and that can be tiresome but the good part is they make a conscientious effort on behalf of your safety and you have to appreciate that.
Check-in in Kathmandu is always a mess, no matter the airline. The flight was delayed arriving in Kathmandu and so late leaving from there. Security is very tight in Kathmandu and that added to the delay - understandable but tedious. The food - I was surprised there was any on such a short flight - was a bit too spicy for a Western palate.
Flight on time and I got on plane. Also baggage checked and boarding passes issued for all 4 of my flights even though Jet Airways flight was booked seperately, but I have not picked up baggage inUSA yet.
Once inside the airplane, everything went fine. Seats were comfortable and food was good.
The flight was delayes for almost 2 hours. I should have departed at 09:50 and At 11:30 we just got on the plane. It waited for about 30 min in order to start the tale off. We had a taxi waiting for us at the airport and we ended having to pay more for the services for that huge delay.
I liked the food and the film, there was no much else to like.
After being snapped at by what can only be described as a stewardessPMSing when I asked very politely for a drink of water, my flight arrived late. I was told to contact a jet airways member of staff as my connecting flight was 30 minutes away and was boarding before I got off the flight. This was a waste of time, I waited in line for 10 minutes for a guy to tell me my gate number... which is on the ticket I showed him. Being someone who can read, I already knew my gate number. Now i had 20 minutes to run like an idiot all the way through new delhi airport with flip flops on, just making my connecting flight after my name was called through the tannoy system for a last call.
