Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Great crew! Also, one of the best landings I had in a while."
Cons: "Was alerted flight would be delayed early and I would miss my connection. Tried contacting agency multiple times with no result. Ended up paying for a flight I never used due to airline fault. Will never book through agency again"
Cons: "$55 for checked bags ($60 for carry on). That was more then my ticket. No WiFi on flight. When all is said and done, other airlines are cheaper and more comfortable"
Pros: "I don’t know if it was bc we checked in early, or the airline was trying to make up for the miserable experience on the first leg of our trip, or some higher benevolent power was smiling on us, but not only did our random seating assignment put me next to my family member, but we got sat in one of the four “nice” seats in the first two rows!! It’s the most leg room either of us have had on s plane since were children, and it was phenomenal! The crew was just as great as the first portion of our trip (Spirit Airline’s one consistent bright spot), and, although the seats were still quite poor quality, they were spacious."
Cons: "I could feel the knees of the person behind me through the back of my seat, and the take off and landing of one of the “youngest planes flying” (S.A’s words, not mine) was disturbingly loud and shaky."
Pros: "I made it in one piece"
Cons: "I was delayed and friends were not happy they had to wait to pick me up"
Pros: "Ordered a $5.99 seat selection option and got their biggest seat!! That was a nice surprise. Flight delayed for two hours due to icy weather. Attendants were calm and relayed updates regularly."
Pros: "The price"
Cons: "This is my second time from Boston to Baltimore, both times the flight being delayed for 3 hours. And the crew member at the counter rolled her eyes when I asked her some questions."
Pros: "One and only one of the agents at check in and boarding seemed to care at all about serving their customers---even on the phone.. With that exception, all others seemed to have received NO training in what is a service industry or what the bare minimum of professional behavior of their employment might look like. The airline flight attendant made SPIRITS training very clear when I asked for water to administer an Rx drug needed because a plane departure delay of 3 hours required my Rx while in flight: "That will be 3 dollars for water; everything is for sale on this plane.""
Cons: "I did not like that my wife and I did not really believe that the reviews could really be true. THE REVIEWS ARE TRUE. Your experience at SPIRIT will probably be as reported as our experience proved. TERRIBLE AND EVEN HUMILIATING AT TIMES. On a scale of zero to ten, SPIRIT deserves a zero."
Pros: "I liked how easy it was to book the flights and how I got to pick which ones worked best for me"
Pros: "I like how quickly we flew to Baltimore."
Cons: "I didn't like how the airlines changed the gates constantly. The boards did not mirror what the announcements were saying . So , it was quite confusing and frustrating. Also , as I was walking through the airport I just had a simple question about getting ticket . And because the person responded with I don't know anything go ask your airline . Lastly, I hated the fact that we boarded the plane at 10pm and did not take off until 10:45pm ."
Pros: "Fast, easy comfortable"
Cons: "Didn't get a assigned seat"
Pros: "I had a bad migraine on my first trip by myself and threw up in the lavatory multiple times. The crew could not have been more empathetic and supportive of helping me through his experience"
Cons: "Passengers were very rude to crew. Staff responded directly and professionally to keep a situation from growing"
Cons: "Our original boarding time was supposed to be 8:15pm, it was moved to 12:30am, so we didn't arrive in Baltimore until almost 3am. After you go through security, the area where Spirit's gates are located only have 1 place for food/drink so waiting 4 hours in that area was miserable. No real food or alcohol in that area. Spirit crew members could not tell us the reason why the flight kept getting pushed back."
Pros: "Flight attendants were very nice and accommodating"
Cons: "Everything was great"
Pros: "The plane seemed new. The seats were pretty comfortable for an airplane, although not enough legroom. The food cart by Cosi in the waiting area is pretty good for a food cart, except there are so many people the staff get overwhelmed."
Cons: "The Spirit waiting area at Boston Logan is terrible. It's way too small for the number of people boarding and deplaning. There is constant jostling (even while you're sitting down) as people try to get through the crowd. And there is only one food cart unless you go back through security. The food cart is by Cosi, so the food is reasonably good, but with this many people the lines for a coffee or lukewarm breakfast wrap are long. And you have to keep moving to let people pass by. Oh, and I had a 2.5 hour delay on last flight to BWI."
Cons: "I accidentally booked an 9pm flight when I meant to select 9am flight at 8am after missing my jetblue flight. I needed to get to Baltimore for work. I went through security and while I was about to board the plane they turned me away due to my ticket being incorrect. The woman checking the boarding passes rudely said "there's no room on this plane so we can't switch this ticket to 9am." I went to Spirit customer service minutes after I was turned away and they told me there was in fact room on that plane. So because of an honest mistake, they 1) wouldn't refund my ticket and 2) were rude and unhelpful and refused to let me on a plane that had plenty of space but they didn't want to inconvenience themselves for 5 minutes to change my boarding pass even after I had gone through security. I will never book Spirit again, even if I'm desperate."
Pros: "Crew was nice, joking, welcoming"
Cons: "Plane smelled of vomit, bathroom was not the cleanest"
Cons: "Delayed, on take off. Long time getting luggage after flight. Everything cost money even water."
Pros: "Pilot or flight attendant making the announcements was funny."
Cons: "Carrying on a backpack and being forced to pay for a seat cost more than the actual flight. This is blatant dishonesty. You are not a cheap airline. You hide costs that customers are then forced to pay once they buy a ticket. I pay less to check a 50 lb piece of luggage for an international trip than I paid to carry on small backpack for an hour and a half flight. And, customer services reps are rude no sense of trying to ease customer frustrations. An announcement was made that a flight was cancelled and everyone needed to go to some desk to rebook. No apology, no acknowledgement of the inconvenience. Horrible customer service and dishonesty. I've had problems in the past with flights being delayed because flight attendants didn't show. No thanks."
Cons: "Flight delayed multiple times without any explanation, website kept crashing so couldn't check in online so had to pay extra at the gate, computer system on flight crashed so pilot made everyone very nervous. Will never fly Spirit again"
Pros: "too fee oriented- ridiculous"
Pros: "spirit airlines is absolutely terrible"
Cons: "the seats were so uncomfortable, the flight attendants were rude, the gates in Logan Airport were overcrowded. Poor service all around. Never flying this airline again. NO ENTERTAINMENT AT ALL. the trays behind the seat are not even trays."
Pros: "You get what you pay for - not a lot."
Cons: "Delayed, as usual. The terminal is like a bus station - overcrowded, people sitting on floors, and loud - due to multiple flights being delayed. No viable food options."
Pros: "Love the prices and the cleanliness of the airplane. Every staff I have interacted with have been friendly, polite, and look as though they enjoy their job and coworkers. The Spirit terminal at the Baltimore airport is phenomenal. It is spacious, clean, bright and modern. I will definitely be flying Spirit again!"
Cons: "This is the second time that I have flown from Logan airport on Spirit. Both times I have been very disappointed and disgusted by the terminal. The terminal is crowded and unclean. There were crumbs, wrappers and bottles on the floor. The trash can near the gate was overflowing with boxes and napkins. I was in the terminal for over two hours and not once was the bathroom or terminal serviced by facilities or maintenance staff. The bathroom is dark and crowded as well. Because the stalls and space is so small it's hard to manage your bags while using the bathroom. I would highly encourage an extra shift for cleaning crew and perhaps a different layout for chairs to make it feel less crowded and to bring a modern feel and look to the terminal."
Cons: "The flight was delayed 3 hours because the crew 'timed out' the night before in Los Angeles. I missed 3 hours of work in Baltimore because of the delay:("
Pros: "Flight was on time, crew was professional, ticketing and boarding were orderly. Luggage handling was fine."
Cons: "Baggage fees are excessive, seats don't decline at all, seating is tight, waiting area at Boston Logan is overcrowded. Charging even for water, tea, or coffee is inhospitable."
Pros: "Missed the flight because of an unbelievably long line at the airport security. 40 other passengers missed the flight for the same reason. The airline did not have an adequate response to either delay the flight a few minutes or to place place passengers in other flights the same day and instead suggested everybody to come the next day for the same flight."
Pros: "Low fare"
Cons: "Cost for checked loggage AND carry-on! Seats did not recline! No entertainment at all. No complimentary ANYTHING!"
Cons: "$55 dollar fee for carry on! If I had known that I would have flown another airline!"
Pros: "Availability of flights"
Cons: "Baggage fees Long delay after I had arrived at airport for my departing flight (from BWI to BOS) Lack of free water? Seats Amount of emails received from spirit Challenge of checking in online"
Pros: "Quick and efficient boarding process"
Cons: "Small, uncomfortable seats. Ridiculous fees (20$ to choose seats and 55$ for a carry-on that is free on every other airline?) are the main reason I will never fly Spirit again"
Pros: "Nothing at all"
Cons: "I didn't know there was a deadline to check in 45 minutes before your flight and I didn't know we were to check in with self serve kiosks. I went to one and was thinking about getting a seat upgrade but decided against it and cancelled out of the menu. I went to retry checking in and I was literally two minutes late. And they didn't have any flights until the next day so I had to buy a ticket from a different airline for significantly more money. Oh and guess what, I didn't receive a refund. Here's the real terrible thing, I got to the airport to fly from Boston back to Baltimore and I bought a round trip ticket with spirit and made sure I came in two hours before the flight so I would avoid checking in late again. Well, it turns out since I missed my outbound flight they also cancelled my flight home so I had to buy another plane ticket from a different airline. Honestly I've used kayak plenty of times and as a college student who went to a school across the country I flew frequently and still do for work. This was my worst experience flying ever and a trip that should have cost $100 to fly out cost an additional $500. I honestly hope spirit airlines goes out of service, I'm not alone in this sentiment. If you look you'll find numerous online articles for many users citing how poor the service is, unexpected cancellation of tickets, byanztine and not well advertised rules and I didn't know it at the time but it is consistently ranked as the worst airline in the US and for good reason."
Pros: "That I didn't have to walk to my and destination"
Cons: "The seed store awful and up the website didn't work and I hate having to pay for baggage"
Pros: "I got seated in first class!"
Cons: "Coffee terrrible"
Cons: "Constantly late - last flight was delayed 2 hours and oversold. Spirit offered 2 free tickets to take another flight, not the next morning, but more than 24 hours later...and have the POSSIBILITY of a hotel- with an equal possibility of sleeping on the concrete floor at Logan. First rate. Same price as gas driving from Boston to Baltimore though. Can't complain about that. Just don't have any baggage or it doubles the cost."
Pros: "The flight was the cheapest option available and was cheaper than other airlines."
Cons: "While I had heard bad things about Spirit airlines, I had never flown with them before. I was unaware at the time of booking that Spirit charges exorbitant fees for even carry-on luggage. As a result, I chose to attempt to fit all of my clothes and necessary items in a "personal item" sized bag to avoid the additional $90 it would cost me to bring a large backpack or standard carry-on suitcase. Other fees are charged for seemingly standard items such as being able to select a seat location and receiving a drink during the flight. I could have flown with another airline for the same price if I included the carry-on fee, and in retrospect wish I had. The problems did not stop there, however. Both my departing flight and return flight were delayed over an hour in clear weather. The flight itself was also the worst I have experienced. The seats were incredibly uncomfortable and felt like metal folding chairs. They did not recline and there was very little leg room. The full cabin lights were on for most of my return flight, which had been delayed over two hours to 11:15 pm, making any rest impossible. I will never fly Spirit again and will try to spread the word so that nobody else has to endure a flight from this poorly-run, money-grubbing excuse for an airline. You have been warned!"
Cons: "$55 for a carry on?? You're killing me. Extremely close quarters seating. No food or water. No way is this a better deal than a jet blue once you add in all the crazy hidden costs."
Cons: "The customer service was non-existent, lack of comfort on the plane, delays and lack of knowledge by employees."
Cons: "We were delayed 5 hours on the flight back"
Pros: "Departed on time, arrived early, comfortable seat, friendly crew!"
Cons: "Tray tables are way too small! Cost to check a suitcase is way too expensive at $50!"
Pros: "The person who helped us with our refund was very helpful."
Cons: "We arrived to the airport to check our bags and were informed that our flight had been delayed an hour for maintenance. No huge issue with us we decided to eat breakfast and then hang out for a bit before the flight boarded. We arrived at the gate to find out the plane was delayed another 8 hours. I understand issues happen all the time that are out of our hands. The gentleman at the gate was extremely helpful and accommodating, but he still gave it a 50/50 shot of the plane being cancelled or not. We opted to receive a refund and drive to Baltimore. I completely understand that this was a safety issue with the plane. I'm not upset that the flight was delayed. But having to wait 9 hours for a plane that may or may not be able to make it or be cancelled was tough."
Cons: "The spirit staff failed to work with TSA to make sure there would be security check in prior to delaying the flight, so even though I arrived 90 minutes before departure (with about 20 others) I could not board and the Sprit staff was unwilling to help except to offer a refund which is the bare minimum and frankly insulting to their travelers time and money spent on Spirit staff failures."
Cons: "The flight was initially reported as bing 2 hours late, then every hour that passed by they would delay another hour. It was a sunday evening Flight and I had to be at work at 6am. The short 1 hour flight was supposed to leave at 9pm and didn't take off until 2am! No explanation was given on why the delay. Then when we were on the plane, we were towards the back and We couldn't even get any sleep because the stewardess was talking loudly and non-stop to her partner. (Flight to Boston was delayed 1 hour as well)."
Pros: "The temperature was decent, relatively clean seat area, no terrible smells."
Cons: "The 9 emails updates about the delays, fluctuating both ways so as to not allow the passengers to know when exactly to get to the airport."
Pros: "Worst flight experience I've ever had in my entire life. Delayed 7 hours, horrible customer service and then we almost crashed in the air. To the point where the pilot came on the loud speaker and said "woah there sorry folks I had to do some crazy S turns to get us low enough I forgot to lose enough alitutude at first."
Pros: "The price"
Cons: "Delayed 5 hours and rough flight. I felt like I was on a roller coaster."
Pros: "The crew"
Cons: "The Flight departs more than 3 hours late"
Pros: "I liked that this is a choice you can make for a cheap airline to get to a close destination."
Cons: "Everything is an extra charge including baggage that should be allowed and first come first serve for seating instead of paying 25 dollars or getting random seating. They were telling people that they were allowed only under the seat bag but no overhead (even though you were originally allowed to) and it was 100 dollars for the bag. The plane was delayed and no one knew why so they kept telling us that we were leaving later and later so I went to get dinner and all of a sudden we were boarding. They typed in our seat numbers and were delayed even more because there were people not from our flight on the plane and people were in the wrong seats. Everyone was angry and saying they will never take this airline again. I thought the whole process was ridiculous and definitely didn't impress."
