We arrived at 3 in the morning which left me at 61 driving an hour home at a terrible time of night. I was afraid for my safety driving at that hour but they strung us along for so long there were no real opportunities to choose another option. Besides which my bag was stuck in the broken compartment and could not be retrieved. The flight, when it finally left was so cold that everyone was huddled down in their seats, the very senior lade next to me was pitiful. All in all a horrible experience."

I requested earplugs, and wore them under my 34 dB noise isolating earmuffs (which were made for use at a gun range). The screaming was still loud enough to give me the worst headache that I've had in 4 years. Once this baby stopped, the baby in the row behind me began to scream and the one across the isle from him/her joined in. I would happily rebook with JetBlue if there was an option to not be seated within 5 rows of a toddler."

When my connection arrived at 7pm I stood in line at the gate while the airline employee working completely ignored us for a solid 15 minutes waiting to get my boarding pass. the flight then said it was delayed with a departure time of 9:05 and we did not even start boarding until after 9pm."

"We flew First Class to LA from Denver on the Delta-branded contract airline - Sky West. On the way back, we flew First Class on a Delta Airlines owned jet, and the experience was so much better. The flights should have been comparable; but unfortunately cost-cutting by Sky West was evident."

On the flight to New York with Delta we had to check our carry ons at the gate because it wasn't enough room for bags in the airplane.so we asked when we checked our one suitcase if we can/should check our carry ons to avoid having to do it at the gate. The delta employee told me sure no problem. He checks in my one suitcase I purchased gives me the tracking paper and says ok have a good flight. I asked him so what is with our carry ons and he told us that that would cost 25$ and we can't check those in at the drop off?!?We ended up taking the carry ons with to the gate and then off course there wasn't enough room on the airplane that we had to check it in. And surprise it was free?? We had never issues with Lufthansa, icelandair etc. with checking our bags at drop off to not needing to carry it around and than still end up to check it at the airplane. Every airline has been more than happy that we volunteer to check our bags that they don't have the trouble at the gate."

Cons: "LAX security is awful. We never left the airport (arrived LAX from Sydney AU) yet were forced thru security again. Had to remove shoes, was scanned and "frisked" by TSA to get to Denver. To go to Australia, Denver TSA waived the removal of shoes, skipped the scan for the metal detector and no one touched me, ditto for LAX on the trip to Sydney. Where's the uniformity or standards for TSA?? Why did I have to be subjected to this garbage on the way home?? This is why I despise flying. It makes no sense to me. This ruined what was a great vacation."

Cons: "Boeing 767-400ER seats had no leg room for 6'+ traveller like me. The entertainment system was so old that there were no 115v outlets or USB ports. On a 7-hour flight, that is a significant problem for travellers today with multiple electronic devices. Finally, we were not told in advance that we had to go through security twice and through US Customs BEFORE leaving Dublin. So, the 6-hour layover at JFK was a complete waste of our time as we did not have to go through Customs there."

Cons: "After I spoke with another individual he understood what had happened with maintenance on the front end of MSP and that I would've made my FTL flight to SJO had the flight left at 6am like it should've not 3pm. He said nervously that he'd have to talk w/ the supervisor again, where she came back & tried to fight about weather issues from BOS to FTL..but she didn't take a second to understand that I was delayed from maintenance in MSP which didn't allow me to leave til 3pm vs 6 am. If i had made my MSP flight at 6am, I would've made my flight in BOS at 2:45 and therefore caught my FTL to SJO flight at 11pm. He then talked her through it once again, and she gave me a voucher very begrudgingly. Wrong person to have in this sort of position there. I didn't catch her name, but she was a very unprofessional supervisor working the late night shift at 11pm in FTL at spirit ticketing desk."

Isn't that covered when a ticket is purchased?? I purchased through Kayak and find out later that we can save money by doing everything ourselves online or at kiosk. Then watch all staff sit around and socialize while we over pay. Why have a staff at all? I had to pay to sit in exit seat then asked to assist in emergency. If occupying those seats... Why do we have to pay extra? I guess not what I had in mind. I will choose different airline next time. I paid more to fly my bags than it cost to fly myself. Don't understand!"

I took 7 o'clock AMTRAK to go Chicago and then took Blue line (45 minutes) to get to O'Hara airport. The girl at the counter did not explain why the airplane was cancelled. She offered a flight next day at the same time. My poster presentation was at 8:30AM next day. There was no alternative flight from Chicago to Boston. I just cannot believe this. I totally missed my conference presentation. BAD!"
Pros: "The plane seemed new. The seats were pretty comfortable for an airplane, although not enough legroom. The food cart by Cosi in the waiting area is pretty good for a food cart, except there are so many people the staff get overwhelmed."
Cons: "The Spirit waiting area at Boston Logan is terrible. It's way too small for the number of people boarding and deplaning. There is constant jostling (even while you're sitting down) as people try to get through the crowd. And there is only one food cart unless you go back through security. The food cart is by Cosi, so the food is reasonably good, but with this many people the lines for a coffee or lukewarm breakfast wrap are long. And you have to keep moving to let people pass by. Oh, and I had a 2.5 hour delay on last flight to BWI."
Cons: "I accidentally booked an 9pm flight when I meant to select 9am flight at 8am after missing my jetblue flight. I needed to get to Baltimore for work. I went through security and while I was about to board the plane they turned me away due to my ticket being incorrect. The woman checking the boarding passes rudely said "there's no room on this plane so we can't switch this ticket to 9am." I went to Spirit customer service minutes after I was turned away and they told me there was in fact room on that plane. So because of an honest mistake, they 1) wouldn't refund my ticket and 2) were rude and unhelpful and refused to let me on a plane that had plenty of space but they didn't want to inconvenience themselves for 5 minutes to change my boarding pass even after I had gone through security. I will never book Spirit again, even if I'm desperate."

Cons: "Carrying on a backpack and being forced to pay for a seat cost more than the actual flight. This is blatant dishonesty. You are not a cheap airline. You hide costs that customers are then forced to pay once they buy a ticket. I pay less to check a 50 lb piece of luggage for an international trip than I paid to carry on small backpack for an hour and a half flight. And, customer services reps are rude no sense of trying to ease customer frustrations. An announcement was made that a flight was cancelled and everyone needed to go to some desk to rebook. No apology, no acknowledgement of the inconvenience. Horrible customer service and dishonesty. I've had problems in the past with flights being delayed because flight attendants didn't show. No thanks."

People had to walk up one at a time and ask to confirm what was happening and that we were all at the correct gate. Two hours after our flight was supposed to take off, there was finally an announcement letting us know that there was a delay and our gate would be changed so we needed to move out of the way so another flight could use the gate, but not to too far because they didn't know when or where our flight would be leaving from. It was chaotic and disorganized for no reason. I understand that delays happen but the lack of communication was unacceptable."
Cons: "I bought this ticket directly from spirit. They scheduled my connection such that it would have been impossible to make. Apparently this was an "unforeseeable circumstance", so I was offered no accommodations even though there were no alternate flights available until two days later. The agent I spoke with changed his story about what could be done every time we spoke, and when I requested a refund, he was unable to print a receipt or any kind of confirmation paperwork or email whatsoever to prove to me that my ticket had been refunded. He was also unable to tell me the amount of the refund. I simply had to take his word for it that Spirit would process my refund for an unknown amount within 5 business days. Needless to say, i have doubts. This was absolutely unacceptable. I was forced to pay for an alternate flight on a different airline, and pay for an airport hotel for the night. I am beyond furious with spirit airlines and I have received unimaginably terrible customer service."
Cons: "The price of the flight was relatively inexpensive, however, after paying for a second carry on, checked bag and overweight checked bag (40 lbs not 50 lbs), this flight was WAY more expensive than other carriers with the same luggage. The bag fees were never explained during the booking process. The flight was delayed almost 2 hours due to other Spirit delays to Ft. Lauderdale, thus, instead of paying hotels and rebooking Spirit customers, Spirit decided to wait until every passenger boarded -- not caring that customers were missing connections in Denver. The ticket agent in Ft. Lauderdale was a right miserable so and so. I'll never use Spirit again."
Cons: "I know Spirit offers low fares and in return you pay for everything else, seats, carry-on bags, boarding passes (if you don't print yourself), drinks, etc. In knowing this I did my due diligence before this flight to make sure I wasn't going to be charged for things like the size of my purse (I measured it), etc. Upon check in for this flight, I was informed that I owed $30 because my checked bag was 43 lbs and Spirit has a weight limit of 40 lbs. The other customers in line were just as shocked. To me, the standard is 50 lbs. With that being said, in my research on Spirits website this was not clear. I think this sort of fee should be much more prominent. I am a "prepar-er" if you will and for me to not know this charge was coming tells me Spirit most likely makes a lot of money off of passengers regularly having to pay this unexpected fee at check in. The ticketing agent told me it happens daily after I asked him. This feels a bit like a scam, in my opinion. Spirit will say "It's on our website" and I'm sure it is but again, I don't feel like this charge for a weight that's standard is 50 lbs is clearly called out to passengers. I'm fine with no frills, I'm not fine with unexpected charges that I feel are under the radar until the 11th hour when you have no choice but to pay or repack. Uncool, spirit."

Cons: "The check in process was horrific. Their website was not working so I was forced to spend more to print my boarding pass at the airport. I had no idea Spirit was going to be so uncomfortable. I really think a disclaimer in large print should be available prior to booking with them. Something like Attention: the flight you are about to book comes with very small, unpadded seats crammed closer together than most airplanes. You will be physically touching every person you sit next to. Even if you are a skinny person. The seats do not recline there is no Wi-Fi or on board entertainment. You will be nickel and dime to death so that in the end you won't actually be saving as much money as you tjought."
Pros: "On the opposite side of the helpful/friendly spectrum -there was one employee who heard my story and offered to let me use one of his free flights if I was charged for some reason. He waited while I went through the ticketing process again. That was VERY generous. I wish I had taken his name down."
Cons: "Did not receive a notification that my gate had changed to an entirely different terminal and I missed my flight. There was no way to even know/find where my new gate was located. They only had one Spirit employee at the gate that was on my ticket and she was busy checking the people in for another flight. Ladies at the correct gate were not friendly or helpful. Paid $200 to stay overnight in a hotel and I missed a day of work. The check-in/ticketing area for Spirit was a madhouse."
Pros: "There was not much to like. The crew members were nice and professional."
Cons: "Once you pay for your flight, there's many other fees that end up making spirit just as expensive as other, nicer airlines. There was a carry on fee, which is unheard of. There is also a fee for every single seat. When you get on the plane, the seats are so thin and very uncomfortable. There isn't a single TV and no wifi!! There's also no complimentary food or beverages, water was even $3. Overall, the experience just annoys almost every customer and makes them wish they had chosen another airline. I will NOT be flying with Spirit airlines again."
Pros: "The flight was fine, attendants were excellent. Very efficient boarding. I wasted much of the day before and day of the flight trying to print a boarding pass. Difficult to get to site and then they wouldn't accept my password and then didn't send the password I needed to change it. It was extremely frustrating. When I checked in at the kios I was warned that if my bag didn't fit in the bin I would be charged $100 at the gate. I was a1/2 inch too wide so I paid the $55 and found that people were boarding with big backpacks and not paying. My bag fit easily under the seat. Can this money be redeemed?"
Pros: "Uncomfortable seats, zero leg room, a website that has yet to function properly without me having to call customer service several times per flight. Not to mention the "Low fares" Spirit offers you don't actually account for the money you shovel out for EVERY SINGLE EXTRA you can think of. I ended up spending 65$ on my last flight just to bring a carry on and choose a seat. Tie that all together with an angry, impatient, and unprofessional staff, and you result in a customer who will never be flying spirit airlines again."

Cons: "The flight was overall and awful experience. After purchasing tickets we find out we have to also pay for seats and luggage. So we do so. We come to the day of our flight and board our plane only to find out they had given our seats away. Apparently because we didn't have a dog with us it was only fair to give our seats to the people who did and did not book seats let alone together ! Which is absolutely ridiculous my trip should not have to be incovienced because of other people not planning their trip correctly. Then we get the worst seats on the plane after having to stand in the way of everyone for 30 minute like second class citizens while they wait to see where they can squeeze us in. After sitting down we got incredibly rude service from the staff on the plane. One of the attendants made it a point to say your welcome in a manor of being rude because we would not hand trash to her in another passengers face we made her go behind us which was in the long run easier for her. We never got a thank you or a sorry for ruining our trip. I wouldn't recommend this flight to anyone. The airline is an absolute joke."
Cons: "I flew spirit to Detroit last week, and after getting delayed 18 hours I finally made it. Now, currently sitting at the airport, my spirit flight home to Denver has been canceled at least 10 minutes after we were suppose to have boarded. I have been at the airport for 5 hours and have been yelled at to stay back from the counter and not to ask questions or else we would just be delaying the process. After about 2.5 hours of waiting, we finally got a number to call to re-book, which still took over an hour. This has been THE WORST airline experience I have ever had. If I were representing this airline I would be ashamed of the horrible service it provides. I genuinely believe I deserve a full refund for my flight (even if it was re-booked)... not just given an apology voucher because I promise I will never fly spirit again."

Cons: "The spirit luggage check in delayed me (the 120 minutes early I was there) before the flight - standing in line - by the time I got to the ONE gate agent she said I was too late to catch the flight and admitted it wasn't my fault but I would have to pay an additional $170 to book the next flight which was the following morning. Down hill from there. It took me an hour waiting on hold to speak to someone on the phone. The representative & then her supervisor could care less, by that time the rebooking charge had gone up to $215. It cost me $300+ to last minute book a low price room for the night, taxi back and forth from the airport (I had already returned my rental car). That doesn't include the return flight I paid for on a different airline or the refund I should have recieved for the RT trip I already paid for. Shameful (non)service spirit!!!"
Cons: "I did a check in to my luggage it was just one an hour before boarding and i paid 50$ for my bag and they lost it and when i went to thier representative she told me she cant find and when i asked her when will they get back to me she was like as soon as they find it without any specification about the time or any thing and she gave me a permission for a voucher with 25$ to use it in my next trip with them!! Again!!! Really !! If i will travel with again!!! It is a horrible airline i will never travel with them again ever."

Cons: "While I had heard bad things about Spirit airlines, I had never flown with them before. I was unaware at the time of booking that Spirit charges exorbitant fees for even carry-on luggage. As a result, I chose to attempt to fit all of my clothes and necessary items in a "personal item" sized bag to avoid the additional $90 it would cost me to bring a large backpack or standard carry-on suitcase. Other fees are charged for seemingly standard items such as being able to select a seat location and receiving a drink during the flight. I could have flown with another airline for the same price if I included the carry-on fee, and in retrospect wish I had. The problems did not stop there, however. Both my departing flight and return flight were delayed over an hour in clear weather. The flight itself was also the worst I have experienced. The seats were incredibly uncomfortable and felt like metal folding chairs. They did not recline and there was very little leg room. The full cabin lights were on for most of my return flight, which had been delayed over two hours to 11:15 pm, making any rest impossible. I will never fly Spirit again and will try to spread the word so that nobody else has to endure a flight from this poorly-run, money-grubbing excuse for an airline. You have been warned!"
Cons: "The flight was cancelled due to the plane being stuck in another city due to weather. I've had this happen before with other airlines, and they were able to rebook me on another airline's flight, with no price difference. With Spirit, they only were able to refund my money or move me to another date, four days later, which would have caused me to miss the event I was supposed to attend over the weekend. I thought since I was flying solo, without my kids in tow, using a cut-rate airline would have worked out. I've had no problems with JetBlue or SW in the past. But I would stay away from using Spirit."

Cons: "Baggage restrictions and fees are absurd. Standard carry-ons are charged for (you can bring your one 'personal item' free of charge if it's small enough). A single checked bag is $51. Most carriers offer your first checked bag for free. Add $50 to your fare for a bag and see how competitive Spirit really is. No complimentary snacks or beverages---a soft drink is $3. Seats are very tight, unless you pay for an upgrade. Need to fly fast and don't need luggage, or expect basics like nuts and a cup of soda, then Spirit may be a cheaper carrier. Add the 'ala carte' items-like luggage-and the fare becomes average."

Cons: "They chose to cancel the return flight within 2 hours of the scheduled departure and were not at all helpful trying to get anyone out on any other airlines (because they're next available flight to that destination was 4 days out...) Not to mention on the initial flight to my destination, they had everyone board the plane 40 minutes early and then told everyone they had to all evacuate the plane and delayed the flight for 4 hours for NO reason!!!!! I would highly recommend avoiding flying spirit airlines at all cost, what I thought was a decent deal ended costing me an extra $400 for my last minute one-way trip and adding many many hours to my time traveling......"
Pros: "There wasn't much to like on this flight... it was pretty disappointing."
Cons: "All the hidden/ extra costs. It adds up to more than what any other airline would have costed and the service was worse. They lost my bag on the way there. They take FOREVER to get the bags to the baggage carousel (even when they make everyone pay extra to check a bag - but not as much to carry on a bag... you do the math). The flight was also delayed by 35 min. Once we got to our home airport, it took another 30+ minutes to even open the door so we could all get off the plane. It then took another 30 minutes once we all got down to the baggage carousel for the first bag to even come out of the baggage carousel."
Cons: "After being told we were circling our destination due to weather, we were deferred to another airport. This was fine until we were told we'd get sent out on the next plane... Which was also told to the other plane that got deferred (spirit) . Two planes all pushing to get on one. We were then forced to leave the gate with the promise of buses awaiting us. After 4 hours waiting for buses (midnight) I had to spend my own money to rent a car and drive 4.5 hours to my original destination. No offer to be put up in a hotel was offered, nor was an offer to catch another flight. Instead we were told to pay and extra $100 to be placed on standby for the following nights flight to our final destination."
Pros: "The person who helped us with our refund was very helpful."
Cons: "We arrived to the airport to check our bags and were informed that our flight had been delayed an hour for maintenance. No huge issue with us we decided to eat breakfast and then hang out for a bit before the flight boarded. We arrived at the gate to find out the plane was delayed another 8 hours. I understand issues happen all the time that are out of our hands. The gentleman at the gate was extremely helpful and accommodating, but he still gave it a 50/50 shot of the plane being cancelled or not. We opted to receive a refund and drive to Baltimore. I completely understand that this was a safety issue with the plane. I'm not upset that the flight was delayed. But having to wait 9 hours for a plane that may or may not be able to make it or be cancelled was tough."
Pros: "Flight from Boston to Cleveland was only delayed 10 min. Return flight was a different story."
Cons: "Return flight landed on time but taxied on the runway for 2 hours (longer than the total flight time). Was only offered 1 small glass of water filled 1/2 up & 1 small package of 2 cookies as a result of federal regulations. Flight attendants & pilot only updated passengers every 25 min, saying it would only be another 10 min longer. As the updates were no accurate and late, passengers including myself were extremely frustrated. Mentioned delay of finding a gate was due to "politics", which I've never heard before. Was extremely disappointed in the way Spirit handled the situation and would not recommend this airline to people as a result."
Pros: "Overall this was a bad experience. Spirit forces you to pay $55 for a carry-on bag. I suppose I should have known this already, and I'm sure it was in the fine print of my ticket. So partly my own fault. But when you add in all the fees Spirit nickel and dimes you for, you could have purchased a ticket with a better airline for same price. In addition, the boarding process was slow and the staff was unprofessional. The flight attendants were rude, the seats do not recline at all, and I could feel a hard metal piece inside my headrest. I asked for a pillow but the flight attendant said none were available. I will not be flying Spirit again unless there are absolutely no other options."

Cons: "What did to like? Pretty much everything. Starting with the fact they charge for a carry on. I paid $150 for round trip from Boston to Atlantic city. My carry on cost $42 each way!!! That means I paid $240 total for my flight. That wasn't comfortable, no food or drink offered, ride staff at check in desk, and very Uncomforrabel. I could flown jet blue for that with out any extra costs and a much better experience!!!! Never again will I fly spirit. I understand you get what you paid for. But it was so terrible it seemed that they know they suck but make jokes about it. Never again."
Cons: "The nickle-diming of the fares,the long winded check in process, the most uncomfortable seats that I have EVER had the displeasure of occupying, the absence of tray tables or seat pockets and the fact that you had to pay for any beverage or cheap snacks. Not to mention the 2-1/2 hour delay with no explanation. I will never fly them again and will make sure everyone that I know will hear of my experiance along with all of my social media. I could have flown Delta cheaper in the long run and in the future will book with more reliable,up-front airlines!!"

Cons: "We didn't care for buying tickets and then getting charges for everything including choosing a seat. The web site was horrible and not mobile friendly. Customer service over the phone read from a script and couldn't really take care of anything for you.Also, Spirit expects you to have access to a computer and printer on your vacation. It "saves you money" to do it online. Yes, most hotels have access to those...assuming you're staying in one. Why can't I just check in on my phone and handle everything else at the airport like I just did on Alaska for my return flight? Why do your flight attendants tell us twice to keep our seats upright when they don't even recline? And, they spent most of flight playing games on their phones/tablets. Cup o noodle!? Really!? Flight industry is tough, I know, and you guys are the bare minimum. Head in expecting a nightmare flight and its not so bad."

Cons: "*Promising to answer a question "within 48hrs" is NOT OK when it is about checking in. *We SHOULD NOT have to register in order to be able to check in. Why is more than conf # and name needed unless it is to be shared or sold? *The needed info is scattered in many places on the site eg bag size, weight, and prices. *I was charged the "at checkin" price when I used the add baggage link before starting to check in; b/c I was within 24hrs? Purposely didn't start to check in yet so I wouldn't get the higher price."
Pros: "I liked the price and the onboard staff was pleasant. The pilots were appropriately apologetic."
Cons: "Our flight was delayed. Then delayed again, then delayed again and eventually cancelled!! So we were re-booked on the evening flight. Twelve hours later! Then that flight was delayed. And delayed again. Finally we took off 2 and a half hours after our scheduled flight time after spending 15 hours at the airport! We lost an entire day of our mini-vacation! We found out our flight was cancelled do to mechanical failure of the plane. We ended up with the very same plane that night and it was not fixed! They still had a problem with their auxillliary power so they had one Hell of a time getting the engines started we sat and sat and waited on the tarmac for the engines to finally be started. When we first arrived, the ticket agents were nice but seemed easily confounded and seemed to need a manager to help them with every single customer. Unfortunately, there was only one to go around. The baggage assistance office person was standoffish and acted like giving one word answers was a big intrusion on her time, although we were the only customers there when we talked to her. Baggage was in front of and behind her office door. We had to go in through a side door she shared with American Airlines. It was as if she wanted to discourage people from talking to her. There is more, but you get the picture."
Cons: "Be careful flying with Spirit. Their policy is that you pay a very small base rate, with no frills whatsoever. The seats don't even recline at all. Baggage fees (even when paid online ahead of time) are very costly. You don't even get in-flight water for free. I can't tell you how many customers were upset any complaining about various aspects of the surprise costs associated with this airline; I'd imagine all over the country every day Spirit is causing frustration to hundreds or thousands of people. Would not recommend."
