Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "entertainment, seat space (main cabin extra)"
Cons: "meal service more suitable for daily flight (breakfast first and lunch last)"
Pros: "One of the crew members was rude on several occasions - the rest of the crew was fantastic."
Pros: "They got me home eventually"
Cons: "Timeliness was awful. Late crew delayed the flight 50 min. Then ripped cargo net resulted in cargo shift."
Pros: "The crew was friendly and helpful"
Cons: "Just about everything but the crew"
Pros: "punctual and crew was very nice"
Cons: "old aircraft so each seat didn't have individual screens for entertainment"
Cons: "Commuter jet boarding at DCA is going to stink until the new terminal is completed. Just is."
Pros: "crew was nice"
Cons: "very very old plane"
Pros: "Passengers’ standards are so low, so when a flight leaves on time and arrives on schedule or early, we think we are blessed. That’s what happened in this flight."
Cons: "On time departure and early arrival."
Cons: "No entertainment in the seatback or power for charging personal devices"
Cons: "baggage damaged and lost"
Pros: "Crew worked hard."
Cons: "premium service was good including extra seat space"
Pros: "Relatively comfortable plane, great movies (I watched four!), good timing between meals/snacks."
Cons: "These planes are always SO cramped. We paid to be in the section with 9 seats across instead of 10 which was worth it but wish that they would just give everyone slightly more space - seems humane for such long flights! The group boarding on these huge planes always seems chaotic. Also it seems like it would honestly make more sense to start at the back and move forward. Would have less waiting for people in front of you to get settled. Wish the last snack had a piece of fruit or something with a bit more healthy aspect."
Pros: "This plane is much better than the American Airlines plane I usually get stuck with on my 8 hour direct flight from JFK to MXP. Please stop using the Boeing 767 jets and only use the Boeing 777 for flights across the Atlantic. I would like to fly American more frequently but not if I think I'm going to get stuck with the planes from the 1980s where there's no personal TV, no place to plug in my phone or electronics to charge unless you carry around a car charger, which I definitely don't, and there's no WiFi on those planes either."
Cons: "Boeing 767 Jets! The food is blah - Delta and Emirates is better. The entertainment needs a bit of an update. Or maybe I just fly too often..."
Cons: "Old airplane between MIA and SJU"
Pros: "I had to buy new clothes after lost bag and since bag had been lost twice during my trip, I was reluctant to check the bag. It was of size to cram into my carry on so I did that, but American staff demonstrated concern, had a sense of humor and helped me get a comfortable seat to sort of take some of the sting away. All that was great of them I was aware of being in an upgraded seat. No complaints, but it stung a little because I was deeply aware of the reinforcement of class. The small, extra comforts were wonderful and I wish everyone had them while risking their lives together over the ocean - especially the extra room At times, on the way over I felt a claustrophobic panic. But to stay positive, they were kiind, sympathetic, funny, sweet. I appreciate them."
Pros: "Trip overall was great until getting baggage at baggage claim."
Cons: "We waited 1 hr or more for our baggage to arrive at baggage claim and no one from AA told us anything until about 50 minutes into our wait that there was a weather delay so baggage crew couldn't work in the conditions. When we landed, the weather was fine so no one knew! Many people missed connections or had to run through the airport by time they got their bags. Better communication would have been easy to do to keep us informed."
Cons: "Check in was a disaster with the computer system down. The gentleman that helped us was lovely but system issues kept us at check in a very long time and unfortunately that together with the crazy insanely long distance to our gate- then only to take a bus- we did not have time to pick up any food or make any stops which we counted on and had arrived 2.5 hours ahead of time to check in to allow for."
Pros: "Entertainment System loaded with movies Optional WIFI at cost Aisle seat Air quality / temp control was comfortable Passport control through JFK was straight forward and short for USA citizens"
Cons: "Food: Better to just serve a fresh panini than to go through hassle of heated mystery meal... Seat Assignment: I went to Malpensa airport the night before to assign seat, but there was no American Airlines gate agent nor partner airline that could help me...Even though this was AA199 purchased through British Airways. The B.A. check in said that they couldn't help"
Pros: "Considering BA cancelled our flight to Milan because our Delta flight to JFK was late....we had to buy 2 more round trip tickets. No one from Kayak or BA helped us.. we were out anithet $1100. ..worst experience ever will never use Kayak again. The right thing to do is for Kayak to refund our original.tickets....since we had no control over our delayed flight but I am sure that will not happen."
Cons: "See above ....."
Pros: "Movie choices"
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "Entertainment sucks, food, better eat a 7 eleven, confort very very baf"
Cons: "One of the oldest aircrafts - unbelievable they would use this from Milan to JFK! There were NO TV screens on the seats and whats worse is there was nowhere to plug in headphones to watch the one tiny TV screen for all. When we were landing the lights in our cabin - the crew was mediocre - the food was indelible - I advent flown American for over a decade internationally and there is a good reason why i will never again!!"
Pros: "I liked the food and the fact that we had booked good seats in Economy so we were comfortable."
Cons: "We weren't able to choose the movies etc. We were forced to watch what the airline picked on a big screen. Old plane."
Pros: "Quietness of the flight and easy boarding entertainment was good"
Cons: "Food a bit heavy and large and crew only ok"
Cons: "i had a really horrible experience with a flight attendent but the 2 in my cabin were great. Earphones didnt work and couldnt see screen"
Pros: "The fact I was able to go home."
Cons: "The plane is old and there was combustion smoke smell in the cabin. The seats were also old and looked like repairs were made in some instead of replacing them. There were no TV’s in front of my seat reather the ones projecting on the corridors. Food was full of poor GMO ingredients with palm oil and high fructose corn syrup..... a disgrace coming from Italy."
Pros: "Very nice and genuinely friendly flight attendants and ground personnel. Flight arrived early, perfect landing and take off."
Cons: "Kayak/webjet sent me the wrong check in code for the wrong airline operating my flight. I inserted it on the online form multiple times until I was blocked from doing so, and there was no link to communicate online in real time with anyone who could solve the problem. This was extremely stressful and unnecessary, as well as time consuming. It was not how I wanted to spend my final night in Italy. Furthermore, I had to wake up at 4 am to get a very early bus to the airport in order to check in early enough in person. NOT cool. The food was mediocre. The entertainment options were about the worst I've ever seen. My seat hardly went back at all."
Pros: "Old plane. No entertaining in seats for a 10 hour flight. Awful."
Pros: "the flight attendant passing out newspapers calling them "fake news" was hilarious."
Cons: "when people lean back in their seats, i'm pretty much hit in the face because of the lack of space. so i also had to lean back in my seat to just get some face space. won't use AA again for long flights."
Cons: "Old airplane, bad food"
Cons: "Good flight!"
Pros: "CRJ 900s have more leg room than expected"
Cons: "I received an electronic boarding pass but still was required to go thru a security check to get a paper boarding pass, and then had to go stand in the original line again. Aircraft was dated. Audio for th in flight was bad. Poor experience overall."
Cons: "No personal tv's on an international flight, that is absurd Smallest seats I've sat in in years"
Pros: "Flight attendants"
Cons: "Cramped beyond belief. Can’t roll carry on bags through aisles. Seems they’re more narrow. Boarding seems something beyond common sense. On domestic flights I only fly Southwest unless a must do trip and they don’t fly there. Our trip over to Milan on British Airways was wonderful. Sorry the last leg was American Airlines.)"
Pros: "The crew was extremely personable, friendly, courteous and helpful. They must have come down the aisles about 20 times during the trip."
Cons: "The food was not great and the movie selection was pretty bad."
Pros: "The cabin was beautiful, the crew was SO friendly and very helpful in every way. The best Flight Attendants!!!! This was the best flight I've had in 30 yrs. I can't say enough great things about this leg of our trip. Food was good for airline food.....I just spent 9 days in Italy eating the best, so hard to compare with! I'm a retired Flight Attendant."
Cons: "Mechanical issues, late late late, bad communication, no apologies or compensation for huge waste of time."
Pros: "The crew was very nice"
Cons: "How late the flight took off How tight the seats were Entertainment if you want to call it that was barely visible from our seats"
Pros: "Crew was nice"
Cons: "No individual entertainment units. Forced to watch airline selected movies. No free cocktails. I booked BA for numerous reasons and should have been switche'd."
Pros: "This plane seemed newer than the outbound one with better electronic controls Except for the baggage check in process, security etc. moved quickly and smoothly."
Cons: "Very long wait at the Check in Counter. I'm an AA member, (>20 yrs) but NOT eligible for Priority Check- in ? The Italian counter people sometimes took >10 min. to check in individual families. I saw two agents at one check in where the two seemed to just be chatting?! We were in that line over 45 minutes! Our own check in only took 15 seconds! Gates VERY far from the Check In counter."
Cons: "Completely ignored for beverage service"
Cons: "Poor communication Delays -3 hrs"
Cons: "We bought 3 seats on Business class. My seat did not have the TV working. After flying for 2 hours the flight attendant gave me a portable TV, after asking multiple times. The food was totally horrible. The catering company that American Airlines uses needs to be replaced immediately. Flying TAP, Emirates, Latam, British Airlines , their catering company is very good. Flight attendants were sarcastic and rude. The service was equivalent if you fly coach class."
Pros: "The British Airways flight to Europe had on-demand movies, with a screen on the back of the seat in front of you. The American Airlines return flight only had a cabin screen, where everyone watched the same movie. I will say, however, that the two movies I watched were excellent, so the outcome was fine (but given the option, I'd take the BA option of on-demand viewing!)."
Cons: "The seats on the AA weren't quite as comfortable as the BA flight (seats sat pretty straight upright, and not too plush... but all in all, not terribly uncomfortable)."
Pros: "The crew was so friendly and helpful and especially kind to my five year old son."
Cons: "The plane was quite old and so the entertainment options were poor for such a long flight."
Pros: "Nothing, got food poisoning from the sub standard meal that apparently wasn't no fit for human consumption."
Cons: "Terrible good, overly surly service and broken luggage that made it across the Atlantic but couldn't make it from JFK to SFO without being thrown in assuming a 12 plus times. Worst trip I have flown in my lifetime."
