Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews

Cons: "The food was not great. No USB chargers. Other passengers were noisy."
Pros: "Great price and reasonable to good service for a family on a budget, this worked well."
Cons: "Both flights had delays based on weather, and it seemed the communication around it could have been better."
Pros: "crew and general experience was great"
Cons: "baggage mishandling"
Pros: "The crew was great."
Cons: "The seats could gave been more comfortable."
Pros: "The service"
Cons: "Flight was canceled but there wasn’t any notice prior we arrived at the airport. And there wasn’t any employees from air China to inform us at the airport. Unprofessional!"
Pros: "Good connection time. Not too long, not too short. Just fine."
Pros: "Air China does have excellent economy class prices on trans-Pacific flights. The planes themselves are not bad, and the flight attendants have been good. Overall it could be worse."
Cons: "Both their website and their check-in staff (at Beijing airport especially) can be terrible and frustrating. it is even difficult to manage flights that you book directly on their own website. The check-in staff are grumpy at best. Catering is as bad as it gets. The airline food is a throwback to the 1970s. Drink selection is poor--no fizzy water/soda water/seltzer. Only regular water, coke and sprite, and no spirits at all. Very bad wine and beer with only one choice for each: Great Wall wine, which is sweet and gross, and warm slimy swill beer. The airline could do better by upgrading the website system and having better staff training for customer service."
Pros: "Was fine for a short flight. "Western breakfast" was decent - 2 little pancakes, some scrambled eggs, and a (chicken?) sausage. Staff were kind enough to let us move to the front of the plane and get off first as we had only an hour to get to our connecting flight in Beijing."
Pros: "The premium economy was a bit better, but still on a service level was very poor hospitality."
Cons: "The online service was not user friendly and slow. Our upgrade was said at departure it would be for the full flight and was Not. The staff would not speak English and refused to serve any drinks or snacks as I thought it would be normal. Our luggage was lost and did not arrive at our final destination til 2 days later. On the flight home we were told to wait till our transfer to upgrade and that was denied and said we needed to do it prior. I am beyond disappointed and will never fly with Air China again and the only recourse that was given was from the nice people in Japan that explained this happens all the time and provided a voucher for less than 100 US dollars. I will advise anyone in the future not to fly this airline and I would like this to be investigated."
Pros: "Staff was pretty nice. Meals were decent for airline food. Movies and tv show selections were good. During our very short layover in Beijing (1 hour) they helped us find our next flight with ease. Gave wine with dinner and beer the entire time. Even when I slept through meals they tried to find something for me to eat."
Cons: "Meal options could be better."
Pros: "Boarding was efficient and quick. New large plane with adequate IFE; I was prepared with pre-downloaded netflix on my ipad just in case. Two meals were served in addition to beverages and free beer/ wine. Our flight from SFO-to Beijing was great and on par with any other airline on a long haul flight. Our shorter Beijing to Osaka flight was on an older plane that did not have IFE, that is where I am glad I had downloaded some videos and movies to watch. This flight was also delayed for 1 hour on the tarmac due to flight control scheduling. No major complaints about the flight or plane. Transit hotels were provided on both legs of the flight in Beijing. They are a coin toss in terms of quality. The first hotel was garbage, dirty and smelled beyond bad of rot and ciggarette smoke combined with Beijing polluted air, breathing was difficult. Upon our return trip to SFO, we had a much better hotel. Cleaner, bigger, and it felt safer."
Cons: "There were a lot of in-flight announcements that were redundant: Ex:Duty free shopping alerts multiple times in a short span of time by different FA. The FA were not very concerned with passengers standing and walking around during taxi on the tarmac..I was stunned not only at the passengers carelessness disregard for safety or rules to remain seated. It just felt like the bar for passenger safety was a left to each passenger to decide."
Pros: "Good entertainment system on plane"
Cons: "Lost my bags in transfer. Told me it was due to short transfer time, but I was in transfer over 4 hours. Others taking same route got bags. Despite the fact that there must be at least 5 flights a day between Beijing and Shanghai, they told me it would take about 48 hours to get my bag. By this point I will be gone from Shanghai....baggage service thought it was funny and told me not to transfer in Beijing next time."
Pros: "Crews were polite and helpful"
Cons: "Food was edible but horrible! It makes me doubt this country’s 5000-year history of cuisines."
Cons: "very irresponsible! & no English"
Cons: "Luggage did not get on the same plane as me from Beijin to Seoul so I was without my luggage for a day. Received no apology from the airline."
Cons: "Had an issue with our tickets tried calling kayak and no answer Air China was unable to resolve the issue either. Won’t be using either one again."
Pros: "Comfy seats, good service, enough leg room."
Cons: "Some delays, no outlets, limited wifi."
Pros: "Nice clean plane"
Cons: "Very bad food boiled vegetable and meat with no taste at all. Most entertainment movies, music and video in Chinese language."
Pros: "it was a very comfortable flight and the crew was friendly and helpful. We were traveling with two small children, so saying it was a comfortable flight is very high praise."
Cons: "It was VERY annoying that we had to keep all cell phones turned off the entire flight. We preloaded games for my 5 year old son on an old iPhone 4 that is not connected to the internet or any cell service or bluetooth or anything and he was not allowed to use it the entire flight. Very frustrating for him and us. I wish this information was clearly provided on the Air China website when we booked the tickets so we could have planned accordingly."
Cons: "I will never fly Air China again in my life. Absolute worst customer service. They lost my bags for 5 days and didn't do anything to try and make amends for it. The staff is extremely rude. No one speaks English except for "hello" and "goodbye". The meals are dog food. The seats are absolutely claustrophobic. Worst decision to try and save money by going through Air China. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND GO WITH SOMEONE ELSE. All four flights with them were consistently terrible. Stay away. It's not worth it....."
Cons: "Even at check in in LAX, the staff didn’t speak English. They also didn’t code my ticket correctly so there was no wheelchair assistance (disabled) at transfer or destination. They could not accommodate food allergies- when I called the customer hotline they told me to pack my own food for a 19hr flight i.e. I had nothing to eat the entire journey !"
Pros: "The IFE felt more tailored to the destination. Good selection of American titles and music. The flight was not very full and the staff was much more pleasant. The food was fine. Nothing special but it kept me happy."
Cons: "No complaints."
Pros: "safe flight, nice attendants"
Cons: "would like more room and better movies and better food for such a long flight"
Cons: "Food, cleanliness of airplane"
Pros: "Everything was mediocre, at best. I've had flights with Cathay and Asiana, and the flight was much more comfortable there."
Cons: "I think the plane arrived on time. However, we were allowed to disembark from the plane at the BOARDING TIME of our connecting flight! We ended up missing our connecting flight since the TSA had a long line, and even with the security letting us pass through, we did not make it to our gate. A group of people from the same flight with me had to wait 9 hours for the next flight to Los Angeles from Beijing. The WiFi at the airport was horrible. Can't even load simple Facebook messenger. We could not update our loved ones waiting for us at LAX."
Pros: "Flying on Air China typically works for my travels to Los Angeles. I think they are a great choice given the cost and services : )"
Cons: "The departure out of Beijing was delayed some 1.5 hours because of one person who apparently left his passport near the gate prior to boarding. It was a full flight. I was just stunned that they would inconvenience hundreds of people whose schedules, including mine, were affected by their decision. May be it was a policy issue. But the crew didn't explain it very well, seemed more sympathetic towards the individual. While that was a kind solution to that one individuals but I wondered about the judgement of the crew. It was very frustrating for the rest of the people waiting onboard. Also this was the first time booking through justfly.com because it seemed the cheapest but the hidden (additional) cost was in the seat selection stage afterwards. Kinda misleading."
Cons: "My bag was lost and was not returned to me until 48 hours later."
Cons: "The air China flight attendants are some of the rudest people I have encountered. They were extremely unhelpful and one went so far as to sigh and roll her eyes at me. Our flight was also delayed for four hours with no explanation, while we all sat on the plane waiting. Finally they made us all get off of the plane issued us new tickets and then we got back on. The whole process was rediculous. The seat space was smaller than usual and the plane was very dirty. It was also the worst airplane food I have ever tasted. I would definitely recommend not flying air China. K"
Cons: "they cancelled my flight connecting in beijing to shanghai. no reason this just happens all the time in china. they lost my luggage for hours. they didn't have another flight until the next day. and i was traveling alone meeting my husband in shanghai. so i was just stuck in beijing. they were incredibly unhelpful and unconcerned that i was alone with no luggage, without a phone that worked since i was getting a chinese sim from card from my husband in shanghai, no hotel, transportation etc."
Pros: "Service from staff was still excellent"
Cons: "Didn't like the narrow seats."
Pros: "The flight was crazy cheap. The boarding was fast a simple enough, and the food was pretty good for airplane food. Overall I would probably pay this price to fly this airline again, but if I had to pay even 30 or 40 dollars more I would not."
Cons: "The Crew was crazy bad. They had plenty good enough English they just didn't give a rip if we needed something. My son spilled his yogurt on his lap so I asked for paper to get it cleaned up. The lady just huffed and walked away, I thought to get napkins, but nope, she never came back. This was one of several things that were just lazy or rude on the flight. Also, While I get that this is Air China, so most of the entertainment would be Chinese, the last time I flew Korean Air, and China Southern on international flights they had a pretty good international entertainment selection. Not so on Air China! there were about 4 English choices, and nothing else. Again, I would fly this again at this price (600 for round trip from CGO to DEN) but for even 30-40 dollars more, I would find something else."
Cons: "Every single flight was delayed. 15 hour trip turned into a 40 hour one. Notice of flight rescheduling was given on the day of the flight. They did not give us a hotel room during a 12 hour wait caused by a misconnect due to their delays"
Pros: "Overall airline experience was nice. Good food, comfortable seating."
Cons: "At the airport, clerks insisted we check our baggage, and upon collection in Bangkok, there was a note inside informing me that customs had removed 3 valuable batteries from my bag."
Pros: "The crew were really nice and pleasant Leg space was a little tight The non-veg food was a little non-tasty"
Cons: "For Mumbai to Beijing the announcements should be in English First, then in Mandarin later - As 80 % of the passengers were Non-Chinese For Beijing to Vancouver the announcements should be in Mandarin First, then in English later - As 80 % of the passengers were Chinese The Air -china crew English need to be improved"
Pros: "Good movies, quick boarding."
Cons: "Was a bit bummed they did a water/beverages security check at the gate before boarding the plane. Full, unopened water bottles purchased feet from the gate were not allowed to be brought on board. With it being a 12 hour flight, I would prefer to have a water bottle ready whenever I need a drink instead of relying on the flight attendants to bring water by the tiny cup full. Seemed inconvenient without any purpose stated. Also in one section of the plane it smelled strongly of an uncleaned bathroom."
Pros: "Cheap, everything worked out."
Cons: "Please see above statement!"
Pros: "This time Air China were pretty on time for both all the trips I took, in contrast to its constant delay in the past."
Cons: "The food was ok. The crew were friendly and helpful."
Cons: "Flat tyre in ny. When trying to make connection a skinny kid said i had to run 6 football fields to make the jet in time. So i did. Upon arriving the shuttke was about to leave for the plane. I pleaded to the woman to stop the shuttle and she motioned obe minute so she could continue a convesatiin with a friend as she was noit available for contact. Took me 2 days to reach ny destination. Got food poisoning on the flight.on the way back. I shoukd start a law suit at the very least. t"
Pros: "Quick boarding, good service from flight crew"
Cons: "Limited entertainment offerings, quality of food can be improved."
Cons: "Flight delayed for 2 hrs , saw the pilot coming after 2 hrs , why were the customers not informed"
Pros: "Nothing special, flight 30 mins late. Best food on the three flights so far. I guess was ANA code share and food made in Tokyo, so was pretty good."
Cons: "No entertainment at all."
Cons: "2 hour delay on ground. Flight crew could hardly speak English and no explanation for delay. If this was my first ever delay with CA I wouldn't be so annoyed. Seems to be common problem in China. They just can't ever seem to get flights off in time and the public now just seems to accept this as normal. Bussed out to plane. Who does this anymore in Hong Kong? I guess CA is a very low cost budget deal. My chicken and noodles seemed to have lost its chicken somewhere along the way. Red wine ran out as the flight attendant poured out the last glass of what appeared to be the one and only bottle on board, to my neighbor. As it was midnight, with the delays, I tried to have a nap, With no curved/winged headrest or lumber support, it was so uncomfortable, I gave up. I really struggle to think of anything I liked about this flight and airline."
Pros: "Service from flight attendants"
