Many passengers on the flight including us had international connections through Tokyo, with only an hour between flights. It was clear we were all going to miss this connection, but in a frantic and haphazard way, the JAL crew's only solution at the gate was just to get us all on the next flight out to Tokyo (I believe via China Air) no matter what our individual final destinations were. They said "from Narita, they will handle all your connections to your final destination." This was a bizarre solution. Why not reroute us individually on other partner airlines, through other countries/cities, from this international airport in Taipei, like airlines usually do? (Also, all of this disorganized communication by the JAL crew at the gate was never translated into English, I just happen to speak a little mandarin and was able to understand what they were directing us to do). My wife was the one who searched for an alternative route on her phone (through HK instead of Tokyo) via their partner airline Cathay pacific and showed it to the JAL rep at the transfer counter, and through a series of radio and phone calls, only then did they say "there might be seats left", but they couldn't book the seats for us there. In order to make the flight, we had to sprint ourselves to a completely different terminal and concourse to another transfer counter to finally book our seats on this Cathay flight. Needless to say, our luggage did not get pulled from JAL in time to make it on the Cathay flights, so we are waiting 2-3 days for them to hopefully be found and sent to us. Overall, I was completely disappointed by the JAL staff, who didn't take responsibility or ownership of the situation, and who's solution to just fly everyone out to Tokyo, no matter our final destination, and to leave us to figure out our connections there was extremely short-sighted and irresponsible, and was a total disservice to their customers. I expect much more from this airline. On another note, we flew JAL from Boston to Tokyo, and Tokyo to Taipei: the food was terrible and food options were really subpar for an international flight, I would've expected much better from JAL and the dreamliner flight."

Since I'm lactose intolerant and unable to read Hangul, it's difficult for me to pick food I can eat without problems."

KAL was also very helpful with my change of schedule; I was returning to the US for medical needs including unexpected surgery recommended by my Asian physician, on a schedule to meet needs of my US physician, KAL is definitely a first class outfit, and has proved it with every flight I've taken."

Cons: "The only problem is if you need to go in the first flight at 6am to Hong-Kong.... they will only open the check in at 4:30 and usually you find a big waiting line. You won’t have time to do anything stead check in, go directly to inspection, after to migration to finally go straight ahead to the gate to hopefully have time to enter in the flight... to tide"
Pros: "Seats had good headrests with adjustable "wings" to cradle head while sleeping. USB plug below entertainment screen."
Cons: "A good half the plane was first class and business class. (This was a 15 hour Hong King to Boston flight.) They handed out a fancy menu with 4 entrees but by the time they got to economy only pasta was left. We did at least get a small bottle of water; on our outgoing flight they doled it out in meager glasses. When boarding in Hong Kong we had to go through an additional security check between the gate and the plane (that was a first...) and had our water bottles confiscated. So we were reliant on what they would give us on the plane. Seats were tight, unlike some airlines that give you a little extra room. Wouldn't fly again unless their price was a real bargain."
Pros: "Cathay was able to get my luggage off the plane that I missed. They also got me out of Hong Kong later that night with a quick stop at LAX before heading home to Boston. They really went the extra mile for this weary traveler."

Cons: "I wished the attendants offer more water without asking during the long flight. I had to ask several times."

Cons: "One of the flight attendants who was assigned to my section, her name was Rain, was incredibly rude. Every time I asked her for a glass of water, she would sigh heavily and tell me to wait. Eventually, she stopped serving me all together and I needed to leave my seat and ask other crew members to serve my food. She was completely unprofessional and she made it clear she didn't like me, despite the fact that I was always going out of my way to be courteous. At one point, she walked down the aisle and stepped directly onto my foot, which was NOT in the aisle but under the seat in front of me. She didn't even acknowledge that she had stepped on my foot and kept walking. For a 14-hour flight, I was really bothered by her lack of professionalism. I will have to think twice before I book Cathay Pacific again."

Cons: "Our flight was cancelled and we were automatically placed on another EARLIER flight and we weren't notified. I found out the morning of our original flight, as our new flight was about to board. I still haven't figured out who was responsible for this snafu - the airline or Webjet.com. Webjet customer service was horrible and offensive when I tried to explain to them what happened; they said it was my responsibility to check the time. I would disagree - the customer is ultimately supposed to get an email notifying them of the flight change, giving them options. Based on that phone call with Webjet, I will NEVER do business with them again. As for the flight cancellation issue - if Kayak could help me get to the bottom of this, that would be appreciated."

Cons: "They took my drink I just bought before boarding the plane. The landing from the pilot wasn't great... by far the worst landing from all of my travels. The food for Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo Meal (VLML) - (A Vegetarian Meal that may also contain eggs and dairy products) was gross and the guy flight attendant wouldn't give me ice cream because I had a special meal. All I wanted for food was no meat; I didn't expect it would have no ice cream and no real food. I should've, could've taken one of the options on the food list and push away the meat myself."

Strange security protocols, going through security transfer between arrivals and departures in Hong Kong, then an additional security bag inspection in the boarding way just prior to getting on the plane."

I am all in favor of giving business and first preference in getting off the plane, but this was just too much, waiting for the slowest person in business to get off before a single person could leave the coach cabin."

Cons: "Nothing much ! Restriction of cabin baggage to 7 kilograms for passengers on very long routes ( Kolkata ,HongKong to Boston and San Juan in my case) and being asked to weigh all cabin baggages and check in a cabin baggage of 9 Kilos."

I had to buy a box for $15 to put my purse in and THEN pay $35 to check my PURSE in! I couldnt check in early. I had to go to the gate to get a seat assignment and then even though my assigned seat was in the 10th row, I then had to line up in groups like Southwest and I guess my punishment for sitting in economy was to wait to board last. I felt like third class boarder on the Titanic. United has become less than a Greyhound bus. They will NEVER be my first choice again! It was HORRIFIC I will go to ANY other airlines before them. P.S. the service at the Houston counter were rude and awful except for Ms. Edwards"

Cons: "I'm disappointed in their in-flight entertainment system. Download the app and check out all of the amazing options they have, then try to use it & good luck. It took me 5 hours to watch 20 min of the movie I chose. It just kept cutting out, then would say entertainment service isn't offered, etc. Why are airlines going away from personal TVs & instead having you bring your own device which may or may not work with the service up there? There was also NO room. I'm not a big person, but I didn't even have space to put my bad under the seat in front of me & sit comfortably. I flew back on JetBlue with the same amount of stuff and had ample room. It was interesting to see the difference."

Cons: "4 delays in 1 day on 2 flights. 2 gate changes with no relay of info and to top it all off my wife and i were reassigned to separate seats at the last minute by the airline and very rudely told to deal with it and to calm down when I simply asked why. We were appalled and embarrassed in front of many others in the gate boarding area. The gate agent in Houston has no place in customer service and was on some kind of a power trip. This surprised me with recent events. We are done with United now for many reasons"

Pros: "United is definitely improving. The service was attentive and friendly. When I asked for PJ's, the flight attendant made a good effort to retrieve them for me. I slept through the entire flight, very rare unless the conditions were optimal for sleep."
Cons: "While this flight was fine, my flight to Taipei was riddled with poor service. A bad and forgetful flight attendant can make all the difference. As United adjusts their service to the new Polaris configuration on newer planes, conditions will hopefully improve."
Cons: "Flight was cancelled and had to fend for ourselves to get to boston. Ended up getting to boston at 12:30 am when I was supposed to get there at 1 pm. Will try and get a voucher for this awful trip."
Pros: "The seats were uncomfortable. The staff was cold. The food was horrible, I wasn't even able to eat some of it. The chicken was full of bones and grissle. The rest just tasted bad. Most of their planes did not have screens in the back of the seats. Instead they wanted you to watch on your personal device via their app which worked sub par. The baggage on the return flight was delayed and I almost missed my next flight even though I had a 2 hour 40 min layover. Thankfully that flight was delayed 1 hour and a half. Next time I will stick with airlines I know better. Delta, Emirates, and Qatar all offer superior service and upscale aircraft. The 2k spent was not worth what I received."
Pros: "Germán, one of the stewards on our flight, helped a fellow passenger who fell ill mid flight. He remained calm throughout, knew exactly how to assess and handle the situation, even helping the spouse who was emotional given her husband's condition. He tended to the family the entire flight. He went above and beyond and I hope he is recognized for his outstanding and exemplary efforts ."

Cons: "Flight was completely full so I was stuck in a middle seat. The seat felt small and cramped, so was unable to sleep at all on the overnight flight. There was no in-seat entertainment (although I could have watched stuff on my phone, if I had previously installed the united app, and had sufficient battery)."

Cons: "Plane late departing because of late arrival of aircraft. Literally no gate update announcements with explanations until within 15 minutes of boarding. Consequence: no food, and no explanation from cabin crew about menu change. Food choices then were unappealing. Movie selections were mediocre."
Cons: "There was a delay after boarding / door closing. We just sat at the gate without explanation so we arrived late in Boston. I assume we were held for some reason by the tower but an update from the pilot would have been nice."

Cons: "The controls for my TV didn't work and when I asked for it to be fixed, the attendant told me in a frustrated way that she guessed she could move me seats but then just walked away. For a 5.5 hour flight this was pretty irritating because I didn't have access to any entertainment but also I couldn't even turn the super bright TV off."
