I sat in seat 1A both ways and as the first person to get on and off the flight found the process well laid out, easy, clean and smooth. I also got to witness the boarding process from inside while seated. Very professional and courteous all the way. The first class cabin was sparsely filled with ample space between us and based on how many people I saw getting on, I think the rear cabin must've been sparsely filled as well. More on the comfort aspect in the "what would have been bettter section" ... in short, the seats are the weakest link in the chain."
Cons: "My only gripe is about the seats fitted in first class for this Alaska Air leg (JFKSFO). Like most, my travel frequency has dropped so much that I can finally afford to pay full fare first for the few times I do need to travel. I expect that this will more likely be the norm than not and hope/expect that more among us who can afford to pay extra for the additional comfort, do so. The airline industry will need to keep that segment to get ahead of this seismic shift in travel patterns that 2020 has brought upon all of us. I was hoping to just sleep through it. I normally sleep well/easily on flights (at times, "too well"!) but could not do so on this leg. The seats in first class are just not meant for sleeping and are thus limited in their positioning ... brief napping is the best you can do - carry your entertainment/work or plan on meditating while fully awake. The base is for all intent and purposes, immovable (maybe a couple of inches back and forth at best). There is no concept of a foot rest in the design. The back locks into one of two positions - a vertical one for take-off/landing and a second one tilted about 15 degrees or so. That makes it impossible to stretch the body out while fully supported - so hard to go into relaxed/deep sleep for those who wish to do so. The front passenger seat of a common car offers more for a five hour road trip - something to ponder on, eh? Upgrade the seats ...the extra investment will pay for itself quickly in this age of reduced travel as you'll attract more of those who are lucky to be able to pay a little more to fly in comfort for the few times that they need to. Additionally, sleeping passengers are often the easiest/cheapest to service!"
Pros: "The crew was good. The problem was our Qantas flight from Auckland New Zealand, to Sydney, Australia, to San Francisco, to Seattle didn't sync with Alaska Air. We arrived in San Francisco after a very long flight. We had gotten our boarding passes in Auckland. When we went to board in SF, there was a glitch and they wouldn't let us board. It took a long time to get that fixed. We missed our flight (with our luggage on it), and had to wait several more hours. Plus Alaska Air had cancelled a flight mid morning and the trickle down result was many people were stuck and waiting on flights. Then we had to wait for a crew to come, then they found something wrong with the plane so had to get in a new plane. It was a long and hard day for everyone."

You’d think it would be the other way around on a red eye. Even after that they keep blabbering at the top of their voices! Surprised how inconsiderate they were. And yet, despite their gift of gab, they couldn’t make coherent announcements over the speaker. Food has two stars only because there was nothing to rate."

Cons: "I did not like that the airline allowed more than 1-2 people to accompany 1 small child when pre-boarding. I happened to be able to go in with the general boarding but was one of those who was first in line within this group. My seat which was 5C already had no overheard room!!! It appears that 1 child was accompanied by 4 adults when they pre-boarded and in addition to their carry-ons, they put their foldable stroller, backpacks and totes in the overhead bin!! The airline announced a request for people to leave the overhead bin spaces for bigger carryons but does not enforce it. Flight attendants should not feel uncomfortable actually asking to whom the backpack or tote belong to and tell passengers to put those under their seats. Somehow, passengers need to be educated on proper etiquette. Also, pre-boarding should only allow 1-2 people to accompany a child or an elderly person. Pre-boarding should not be taken advantage of by all adults traveling with those needing it."
Cons: "I don't normally leave reviews, but words really can't describe the nightmarishness of what should have been a quick four hour flight from San Francisco to Washington. Seats for my wife and I were not where I had reserved. Plane had one working lavatory for a cabin of 150 economy passengers. This resulted in a line that stretched the entirety of the single aisle of the plane for the majority of the flight. The second toilet simply had a piece of paper with sharpie that read "DO NOT USE!!" There were two attendants, one of whom wore a t-shirt and was mostly indistinguishable from the passengers. Didn't get so much as a cup of water until over two hours into the four hour flight. No snack, but that's the least of my complaints really. The attendants spent most of the flight in the back of the plane discussing their new vacation lottery and where they were going to go out drinking when we landed–I know because the rear of the plane was where I ended up, forced to smell the single working toilet, in a seat that didn't recline."

But then, she mentioned that the flight was delayed and there was no way that I can made my connection from LA to Indianaplis. So I was given a boarding pass with my suitcase ($25 paid) only to LA. The front desk asked me to try other ways when I arrived LA to see what can be done. When I entered into the gate, your CS changed my flight to UA after I have presented my case. However, I had to pull the suitcase out from Alaska, paid another $25 to United and started the trip all over again. All the while, your crews expected me (an alien from Asia) that I should have known every thing get it through, or to claim my suitcase charges. I am really disappointed for the lack of understanding. To you, it may be something happened so common everyday. To me, I was totally lost to handle this."

After sitting in the gate area just a few minutes, the women at my flight desk announced a delayed flight(flight would depart at 10 instead of 855) The asked that passengers come retrieve their meal vouchers. She checked my boarding pass and I went and ordered myself dinner and returned to sit down close to 9pm. I waited for the screen to change for the new flight information but it never did. The terminal was busy with music and basketball finals.lost of mumbling announcemrnt so I kept checking my flight screen and it still had the original flight. I sat waiting. All of a suddent the tv changes and it’s a different destination??? I got up and asked why my flight wasn’t posted and she told me ‘sweetheart your flight left 20minutes ago.’ I was shocked. How could this happen? She informed me i’d missed my flight that was never delayed. I was so tired and worried and she kept calling me sweetheart. Telling me there were mo more flights but that she’d put me on a 6am the next morning. With my disability I was so worried I pushed and pushed and spoke to both counter airling people. Finally, I got mad and she put me on united. I am so upset about the whole ordeal. That was a surreal awful experience that had me crying on the way home."

She called and arranged for a shuttle to pick me up in San Francisco and bring me to San Jose at no cost, and provided me with a flex ticket so that if I missed the next flight I could be on the subsequent one. (I did in fact make it -- just barely -- onto the 11:15 flight out of San Jose, so when all was said and done I landed in Portland about three hours later than originally planned. As it was a very short trip, I'm quite glad that I only lost the time that I did.) Thank you, Diane (Diana?), for all your help."
Cons: "I had originally been scheduled for an 8:45 am flight out of San Francisco. As I was leaving for the airport at 6:30 I received a text saying that my flight had been delayed until 10:08. I ended up arriving at the airport around 9:00 and making it over to the service desk around 9:20, at which point I was told by one of the attendants that the flight had left at 9:18 and I should have been at the airport two hours early. There was no acknowledgment by this particular attendant that I had been given wrong information by the airline that had resulted in my missing the flight."

Cons: "I arrived to my gate about a half hour before boarding was set to start. An employee greeting me recommended I use the restroom because the gate was down an elevator and in a portion of the airport that did not have accessible restrooms or food options. She cautioned against returning late later than ten minutes before boarding. I returned about ten minutes before the scheduled boarding, only to be told there would be a delay, which wouldn't be an issue except that it took over an hour and sounded like a standard, foreseeable safety process due to the plane being out of the country prior to our flight. Then we were shuttled to the plane on a frigid bus, which at one point stopped so suddenly several passengers and baggages were sent to the floor. And then, after finally taking off, the in flight wifi did not work. After landing in Portland, there was a 45 minute delay because "a vehicle is parked in our gate." Ultimately, we flew safe and sound, but the discomfort caused by the cold bus transports, poor bus driving, foreseeable delays, and a parked vehicle was really unacceptable. After this experience, it will be hard to choose Alaska Airlines in the future."

Cons: "I got on the second leg of a flight from Seattle to Palm Springs at San Francisco. First, the flight arrived an hour late. Passengers from Seattle said that the loading crew somehow dented the wall to the luggage area (?) and they had to inspect it before flying. When it finally got to SFO, we boarded the plane at first, and then had to deplane back into the airport because they had (over?)filled the wrong fuel tank. So they had to empty that tank and fill another I guess? Don't know if the tank they filled was on the other side of the dented luggage area. The announcements from the desk were puzzling, and tended to be every 10 minutes telling us to wait 10 minutes instead of giving a good estimate so we didn't need to stand at the gate the whole time. After about 50 more minutes we boarded again and the plane took off OK. But there needs to be serious improvement in communication between the crew on the ground (gas & luggage etc) and the pilot and the desk crew, and between all of them and their paying customers."

Pros: "Service was excellent as always. I was cold and reluctant to say anything. Seemed like lots were asking for hot drinks and bundled up so the stewardess asked the pilot to crank up the heat. (No one had requested this!) At that moment I realized, many of us are afraid due to recent things on the news. I am a frequent and long-term traveller so if I felt it, you can be sure others do too. It is an industry problem, not your fault, but Alaska has to address it. Even if people don't know that they are angry or afraid, they are going to be reactive--aggressive or passive and/or resistant.... I would encourage you to bring the issue to the surface and remind your travellers on every flight that they can expect excellent service, pleasant responsiveness. Say something or do something that gets at the idea that the Alaska staff is protective of each passenger. One idea would be to have the stewardess remind people of the call light and encourage passengers to use it if they have any questions or concerns, or come see them in the back when it is safe to leave the seat."

Cons: "They weight the value of 1st leg much higher than the return AND they want to charge you $125 change fee. My grandma passed away and I needed to reschedule my itinerary. Alaska stuck to their policies (you know, those pages of microscopic text that is written by lawyers for sole reason of screwing the customer.) I just felt really abused; told them to keep the useless "credit". I booked with Delta. At what point does a company forget who they are supposed to be serving? Perhaps the people that are actually giving you money and keeping you in business?"

That showed sensitivity on their part that was refreshing. I know it is the holidays so its busy, and unexpected situations do arise during these times especially, so at least the credit provided some positive relief to the disappointment."
Cons: "I understand that maintaince is a necessary and usual part of flying planes every day, that said, I had booked the earlier flight for the purpose and intention of getting into Boston earlier to spend more time with my family but arriving 5 hours later than expected was disappointing. This was also the second time that I had an underwhelming experience overall flying Jetblue so that added to the disappointment."

Cons: "Flight was delayed over 5 hrs. Not the airline's fault but waited in the help line for over an hr before the agent told me there was no earlier flight I could be placed on - she was incorrect. Pointed out that there was another flight that had also been delayed and therefore hadn't left yet - she agreed, put me on standby. At the gate, the boarding crew did not know what they were doing. The plane was 20% empty but crew made situation very hectic by giving standby passengers seats, taking them away, and then realizing there was actually enough room on the plane. Crew was friendly but incompetent in terms of problem solving."

And the gate people allowed them to do so I had to be the one to say excuse me we were here 1st. Far and away the worst aspect of this flight, though, was the ticket counter personnel, timing, process-boundness. A. the counter did not open until 0930 for an 1130 flight....you require me to be present 2 hours prior to takeoff, yet your people are not available to service B. the woman at the counter forced me to check luggage that I have carried onboard aircraft all over the world with no flack from anybody, my protestations notwithstanding C. she then explained that our checked luggage could and would not be checked through to our final destination and when I protested that I had had no such issues coming east and could not understand why we were having this conversation, she referred me to "policy." Malarkey. Want to hear something funny? The bags ended up being checked all the way, making my departure from the secure area to claim my bags at JFK pointless, and necessitating my submitting to security lines and scrutiny once again. As I said to my wife at the time of this debacle, if Aer Lingus is the only airline flying US-UK and a rowboat is my only alternative, please pass me the oars."

Old plane. Zero leg room. Dour staff. Turn lighting on repeatedly on redeye - spend half the time making useless announcements. Impossible to sleep even if you were in 1st class.

I had to cancel my trip because of COVID delta. My brother who I visiting got scared and didn’t want me to visit. I paid for insurance that you provided through your site. Allianz hidden in terms that canceling because of COVID fear isn’t covered. I was never offered insurance through delta on your site witch I would have bought. Delta isn’t even giving me a credit for a flight and keep my money. What a scam and I’m very disappointed in the services I received.

Boarding was on time (if not a little early). The flight was unfortunately not properly catered for snack boxes in main cabin. This is likely a one off instance, but it’s a long flight for no food options other than pretzels and Biscoffs. Service was attentive and friendly. This particular flight offered Delta’s DeltaOne lay flat first class seats. Would highly recommend. Flight left on time and arrived early!

It would have been nice to be served some water

The terminal on my ticket was different than the gate number. We went through security and had to take a 15 min shuttle to a different terminal. Why not just go through security there? There were also no attendants at the gate to discuss seat assignments. My husband and I didn’t have seats together. Try on board crew was great, but the airport experience was lacking.

There was a long delay on the tarmac, during which we had to pull back to the gate or to a maintenance area before we finally took off. When we arrived in Vegas there was no gate for us to pull into, which led to another long delay of an already long and delayed flight."

Thus I I lost all the extra space and actually would of preferred a regular economy seat. that would’ve been more preferential then paying $60 and getting less space than I would’ve had it in a regular economy. We were at the airport at 4:30am because the flight was scheduled to depart at 6:05am we were lucky to be able to rebook for a flight SDQ-ATL DL576 for the same day hoping to make the connection ATL-IND. Unfotunately that flight was rerouted to Charlotte due to bad weather conditions with a delay of 3 hrs before it landed in ATL thus missing our connection to INDI and had to sleep in ATL and leave the next day to IND thus missing a meeting commitment that we had in IND. We should and expect to be compensated by Delta for this."

I fly weekly for work on another major airline, and only took this one in a crunch. But I am quite certain this was my last Delta flight and I’ll be advising others similarly. The service and entertainment aren’t sufficient to mask an awful seat configuration."
Pros: "Even though we were in the very back row, we did not experience a foul smell from the restrooms. This was a very nice relief. It is bad enough that the seats don't recline and there is no window in the very back row but prior experience with the added nausea of foul restroom order has been a serious insult to injury. In this case there was really minimal odor. Also since we are traveling as a family we are very happy that we were seated together. We have experienced the past that sometimes our seats will be fragmented and that creates major challenges when you are traveling with young children. However on this particular flight the ride was rough during both takeoff and landing, a lot of side to side shimmy. Also the cabin pressure varied quite a bit during landing causing all the kids to complain about some discomfort in their ears."

Well about 5 people on a small flight had to see them. My bag was stuck in JFK. I was told id have to come back to the airport tomorrow. At this point id been traveling for close to 24 hours. Im not a happy camper. I usually fly JetBlue and this has never happened with them. Delta acted like its a normal thing with them. I paid 25 dollars to check each bag. How can both my bags not reach their final destination together and how come this seems like a normal procedure for Delta. I paid you for a service and now I have to drive back to the airport or wait for you at home to deliver my bags whenever Delta feels like it. I probably won't fly Delta again unless I absolutely have to."

Upon arrival we could barely walk and looked like two old women limping down the jetway. No idea how a tall or larger person could have even sat down."

We were given blankets and pillows. The best thing was the ground staff getting rude after all passengers complaining. They were basically saying we should get stuffed since we were booked for a flight next day same day. This is shameful! Needless to say that I will not fly this airline again!"

Then, in the morning when it was rescheduled to it was again delayed because they first couldn't find a captain and then couldn't find a fort mate. We finally took off and arrived in Cleveland only to wait another 30 minutes for a gate and a ground crew that they couldn't find. I will never fly delta again."

We had to ask for a wet tissue and clean it up. That was of no use too as it wouldn't scrub off. My wife was feeling under the weather and so we asked for a blanket. The blanket was hardly a blanket and more like a towel. We then luckily could switch seats as there were 2 vacant. But, the air conditioner was leaking water in the seat to our left. The crew was callous and just stuck the passenger with some napkins saying it does that. I don't fly Delta a lot and my experience in this trip isn't inspiring much confidence."

And the WiFi movie scheme is way more painful than it needs to be, requiring you "check out" movies using your web browser, then switch to a separate app to actually watch the movies. Clearly the product of a company mindset whose ONLY concern is "can we check some box", with absolutely no interest in "how can we delight our customers?""
Cons: "So we get the same entertainment system all these flights use: some ghastly totally non-optimized Linux setup that was rebooted three times during the flight, took 20 minutes for each reboot, and never worked correctly after any of the reboots. (The only movie my system would ever play was the very first one, and none of the on-screen controls worked. The seat next door could choose multiple movies, but each movie froze after 40 minutes). The amazing thing is: why don't they just install a damn iPad mini or Android equivalent in the back of each seat? Would be lighter than what they have today and would work FAR better. You'd need some co-ordinating/provisioning software to provide for OTA announcements and movie updates, but basically it's not that hard... At the very least, hire a Linux-head to optimize your startup scripts! It's just sad to see this 20 minute startup process (all dumped on the screen) with its constant repetition of time-wasting startup steps that just generate errors on this plane's particular hardware setup..."

Red eye from LAX. The most uncomfortable First Class seats I have ever experienced. No blankets or pillows. One bag of chip-like objects and two beverages for the entire flight. It felt very stingy.

This flight was intense. It was overcrowded, people weren’t following Covid guidelines. And in general, was a mess due to young kids causing a lot of noise and disturbance. I ended up with a headache the entire flight because of it.

It left on time and arrived a few minutes early. The whole process of checking in, seating (got my upgrade thankfully!), and the meals (superb multi-grain healthy salad) were great. It arrived on time (actually a few minutes early). American continue to keep up its promise of customer service. I love being part of the American traveller family.

Pros: "Despite getting no updates, our flight itinerary was changed from a 3.30pm flight to a 9.20pm flight. Unfortunately this was after landing from Milan at 1.30 with two small children so we had already had a very long day. We absolutely never would have booked this flight itinerary had we known of the change."

This is absolutely unreasonable and inexcusable made even worse that we had already had a very long journey from Milan to JFK with two small children. Evidently the issue was that we booked via a 3rd party off the kayak site and not directly with British airways. When American airways changed the flight from 3.30 to 3.25, the 3rd party company failed to file for our updated itinerary so British air/American air bumped us to the next flight at 9.20pm. We have long been loyal to kayak feeling it provides the best breadth of options and good pricing. Now we may use kayak to see all the options but I can’t booking directly with kayak anymore after this complete disaster. We ended up renting a car and driving from jfk to Boston, getting home 23 hours after our journey had started, stressed, beyond exhausted and now have to return the rental car. Thanks kayak."

We arrived in Boston at 12:02 am, 11 1/2 hours after our arrival at JFK from Rome. This was not a very friendly welcome home. The overhead compartments were too small for larger carryon luggage, and no one on the crew alerted passengers to this. Thus, many passengers had to go against the traffic of those still boarding to find space for luggage. My seat was at the back of the plane so I had to spend close to 15 extra minutes walking back to the front against boarding passengers to find a place to put my luggage. A simple warning from the crew when I boarded would have prevented mine and many others unnecessary trouble simply boarding. During a very turbulent flight, the captain nor the crew made any announcements about turbulence, our safety, or our progress. Also during the flight, one of the flight attendants got into an awkward verbal spat with one of the passengers. Completely unprofessional and bothersome. Additionally, I had fallen asleep when dinner was being first served, but woke up before it was finished. A flight attendant approached me and asked if I’d like a dinner to which I replied “Yes”. The flight attendant never returned with a dinner for me, thus I did not eat the dinner, which I had paid for. Lastly, and perhaps most disturbing, was what transpired when a passenger had a medical emergency. With no warning, all of the airplane lights turned on and a loud “CODE RED” was announced over the sound system. Imagine being a sleeping passenger like myself, during a very turbulent flight, to be suddenly awoken to bright lights and a CODE RED shouted loudly over the PA. I’m not overexaggerating when I say that I was preparing for the worst. A truly terrifying moment that I am certain was shared with many others on board. To make matters even worse, as a flight attendant rushed to find a first aid kit (which she had trouble finding) she opened up the compartment over my partners seat and dropped a passengers ipad on her head. The flight attendant did return to apologize, but it was little consolation compared to the stress and panic the crew created. I have flown many times, and this was easily the worst flight of my life. American Airlines should be ashamed of the conditions they put their passengers in and they have lost two customers for good."

Going forward, I will not be purchasing travel insurance in the future. It may sound irrational but if you think about it, travel insurance is the tax on gullible people. You hear travel insurance and one assumes that if you spend the extra money on the insurance and something comes up, you can at least get much of your money back. Don't count on it! It's a 1/1000 chance they will do the right thing so the odds are not in people's favor. However, on the flight from PHX to BOS, all seats in the economy class have the same leg room. The agent explicitly told us that on this plane all seats are the same. When we found the right gate, I told the attendant that they should have left a notice on the digital board at the previous gate. He became very effeminate and gave me a piece of his mind, since he had "personally" made the announcement. It didn't matter to him that we weren't there to hear it. That was our problem. The flight was delayed even longer after we boarded because of a fuel gauge issue, and when a few passengers moved about to use the restroom or get belongings out of their luggage, the female attendant on board scolded everyone like school children. I was summarily woken up and told that it wasn't appropriate to sleep in a lounge. I complained at the front-desk (politely) and was told ... "This is a lounge". Oh and yes, the Wifi wouldn't connect and the food was stale ... so I left, and found a very nice sofa in the concourse. On the flight, service was non-existent, whoever was in the galley was clattering things about, despite the fact that this is a short red-eye flight ... the coffee was awful. The steward forgot to give me my coat and I had to ask twice AFTER we landed and were leaving the plane to get it. By contrast, Lufthansa has daybeds and a special quiet area to snooze, and offer pillows and blankets. Clearly, the Germans are louche compared to Americans."

When asked what was going on she responded "excuse me, I'll get to you when I get to you and thanks for your 'non attitude'" to the woman who asked her if she had any plans to greet us or even ackwnowledge us. Then the flight attendants became flustered as they realized they separated a 5 year old child and his father and sat the child in the emergency seat. When several of us attempted to help they were rude so when I put my headphones in to pass the time and didn't hear the woman ask if I was willing to sit in the emergency isle she snidely said "there's always one millenial not paying attention." Ummm.... I had my eyes closed and was listening to my music since they clearly wanted us to mind our own business and NOT try to help the father (meanwhile all of us strangers were trying to figure out how to rearrange in order to help). The only reason entertainment gets a 2 is bc I had good conversation with the passenger next to me, not because of anything United did. Really unbelievable that they continue to operate this way and treat PAYING customers like this. It's sad actually."

A 4 hour delay means I miss my bus and extends my travel time significantly, one more night away from home. You did offer $50 of mt next UA flight for the next year, but I don't fly that often. Considering the reason for the delay was they were waiting for a plane was frustrating."

Cons: "When we made reservations in February we opted for economy plus seating 8C and 8D on an Airbus A320. In June we received notice of a schedule and equipment change to a Boeing 737-300. I was not told or given the option to change seat assignments, and we were assigned middle and window seats 28E and 28F, which were torture, so narrow and almost no legroom. Why weren't we automatically assigned economy plus seats? Adding insult to injury I had to apply for a refund for the seat upgrade, which again should have been automatic. Seeing as how the return flight was code-shared with AirCanada, United did not give us the option to upgrade seating, so I was forced to call United, waited almost 40 minutes so that they could give me the AirCanada booking reference number which then enabled me to upgrade seats via AirCanada's website. Lucky thing too because there weren't many economy plus seats left. I consider myself to be a savvy traveler, but there were too many unknowns and hoops to jump through in order to get proper seating. Plus the extra fees for premier access and baggage are exorbitant. Finally, I bought an egg white flatbread snack which was awful. I don't see how United gets away with this treatment, it certainly doesn't make for an enjoyable experience when vacationing. In fact we are seriously considering not taking any more vacations requiring flying. We're happy that airlines are profitable, but not at the expense of comfort or navigating options that require very sophisticated knowledge."

They made us wait seven hours and gave us a voucher for food at the last minute. People had already bought food. I would not recommend United to none of my associates."
